    Spicy ramen

Adding this place to my rotation, great sushi and ramen. Over the top sushi boats. Prices are great. Ambiance is instagram worthy. Very accommodating and kind staff.

Food was good, but service was lacking. Our appetizers and drinks came out right away, but our mains took a while. We were a party of two and my main arrived first, as tou can see from the photo, but it was another 5+ minutes for the other. We ordered a second round of drinks, a cocktail and sake, the cocktail arrived pretty quickly, but had to remind the server of the sake.

Decent sushi, really reasonable prices and good selection of rolls. It's really more of a 3.5 stars but 3 seems too low. The rock shrimp is chefs kiss delicious. Good service

I really crave a spicy warm bowl of ramen whenever the weather is cold. The spicy miso ramen was actually what I needed in this frigid NYC weather. It was rich and creamy, topped with chicken, pork belly, egg, fish cake and more. Overall, their menu offers a nice selection of ramen and sushi options. The entrance has a certain charm to it. The restaurant itself is set in a spacious basement with a relaxed and contemporary vibe. I would definitely come back.

We visited Otani for dinner on a Thursday and got seated right away with no reservation. The space was in a basement and had fun neon signage in the entryway, with a pleasant ambiance downstairs. For drinks, we both ordered hot green tea, which was so nice on a cold winter evening. My partner and I each got our own ramen as well as the Crazy New York Roll to share because we were starving. I chose the Chicken Ramen with udon noodles (loved having the different noodle options), and this was excellent. The chicken itself had great flavor and moisture, the broth was great, and the jammy eggs were perfectly cooked. I was also impressed with the Crazy New York Roll which had salmon, shrimp, and tamago inside, and a nice crunch on top. My partner said his Chili Tan - Tan Ramen was awesome too, if you're looking for something spicy. Service was quick and friendly - would return!

Nice little spot. Been in this area a bit and never realized it was there. May be challenging for people in wheelchairs because there's no elevators down and quite a few steps to handle. Sushi was fresh, and came out pretty quickly. Beef teriyaki was delicious as well although it didn't come out sizzling like the other table. Ramen on the other hand, took much longer. We were almost done with our entrees and ramen still wasn't ready. Didn't get a picture of it since it took so long to come out and my daughter was hangry. Otherwise, portions are decent size, service was ok.

Delicous sushi, and Ramen. Staff is very nice, music and environment very relaxing. I recommend for sure. They have lunch specials. To enter you need two ascend stairs (headsup ). No elevator.

One of the best meals I had during my stay in NY. I would eat those pork buns every night if allowed. It was an excellent place to take a loved one for a nice meal. The chili tan tan ramen did not disappoint.

    $6 - harumaki

My friend and I went to Otani around 5:30pm on a Monday. I was shocked that there was a decent amount of people in the restaurant when I checked in, so I would recommend making a reservation. They are located at a lower level, which is nice because it provides a bit of waiting room. The interior has a fancier ambiance, with a mix of tables and cozy booths. We started with an order of harumaki ($6). I liked that they cut this up in halves, so it was easier to split. It had a nice natural flavor, and the sauce definitely has a kick! I got a tonkotsu ramen ($18) and my friend got one signature roll and one regular roll, though I forgot which ones. It may have been the pink lady ($20) and yellowtail avocado ($9). It is rare for me to finish the entire bowl of ramen (broth specifically), but this bowl was delicious. It had a good ratio of broth to ingredients, and the noodles had a good texture. My only critique is that the chashu could be a tad more moist, but it still had nice flavor. My friend enjoyed her sushi, though I would still want to go back to Otani to try their sushi and update my review accordingly. Pricing is very good, especially for the area. Service was great! There were multiple check-backs and water refills. We did get rushed out at 6:50pm, and I had made a 5:30pm reservation, but they gave us a nice booth that would be suited for a party of 4, so I get it. Overall, I enjoyed my experience, and I will be back to try their other offerings!

A hidden spot in Fidi! Was looking for lunch options in the area and found Otani. It's a little hidden. Enter and see all these neon signs and head downstairs. At the basement level you'll find a nice Japanese restaurant offering sushi and ramen. They had just one vegetarian ramen. This made my decision easy as I had no other ramen option for me. I got the miso ramen. You may choose your spice level and type of noodle. I went for the egg free option and chose the thin noodles which are made of rice. The serving size is generous and I was so full when I finished! Plenty of seating for a small group, date night, or solo dining. Fast service too! Restrooms available. Didn't see an elevator option so keep in mind you'll need to walk up and down a set of stairs to access the restaurant.

Wife and I came here for ramen since the line was too long at the place we initially had in mind, and we were so thankful for that because we absolutely loved our meal at Otani! We ended up ordering two apps to share and each got our own ramen (which we ended up taking home half because the portions were so large!). We started with the karage and a spicy kani maki roll, which both were also large portions and not only good value, but tasted fresh and delicious too. My wife got the spicy pork tantan ramen with large ramen noodles and I got the spicy miso with udon (ikik) - both incredibly flavor and just enough kick to give a tingle. Plus was full of all ingredients (no skimping). The place was also packed on a Monday too, with plenty of tables and bar seats. It felt very relaxed too - and had all sorts of groups from corp crowd to tourists to locals. We will be back again!

    Tuna sushi combi

I found Otani Ramen & Sushi online after seeing its great reviews, and it absolutely lived up to the hype! From the outside, it's easy to miss -- a small entrance that you could walk right past -- but once you open the door, you're greeted with cool, vintage neon signs that lead you down a staircase into a trendy, cozy space. It's got a fun vibe that would be perfect for a girls' night or a date. The service was excellent -- I was seated right away, and there were multiple servers checking in throughout my meal, so I always felt taken care of. I'm a big tuna lover, and their tuna combination plate was one of the best I've ever had. Usually, restaurants only offer "chef's choice," but this combo included tuna sashimi, tuna nigiri, and a tuna avocado maki roll. The fish was incredibly fresh -- deep red, thick cuts of tuna (not that pale pink you sometimes see), and the sashimi was served on ice to keep it perfectly cold. The rolls were stuffed so full of tuna they were practically overflowing -- generous portions and amazing quality for the price. The whole combo was only $36! I also added a couple pieces of salmon nigiri, which were fresh and beautifully presented. Everything came out plated on a small wooden bridge with flowers -- such a pretty touch. Between the presentation, freshness, and flavor, I was seriously impressed. Great quality, great prices, great service, great vibe. I'll 100% be back the next time I'm in NY!

We walked into a comfortable modern space with a casual energy that worked well for both a quick ramen meal and a longer dinner with friends. The interior had a warm, inviting feel with a layout that accommodated both small groups and solo diners, and the open kitchen added a layer of engagement to the experience. The ramen is the main highlight, especially the rich and flavorful broths. We ordered a few options and found the EAK ramen standing out with its deep, savory broth and satisfying texture, the noodles having a good chew that held up well against the richness of the soup. The Zebra and chicken-based ramen offered different flavor profiles, each arriving with well-prepared toppings and balanced seasoning. The small plates were also worth exploring, with items like takoyaki and chicken karaage adding more variety to the meal, each dish arriving hot and well assembled. The menu had a lot of choices beyond ramen, which made it a good option for groups with different preferences. Service was quick and the restaurant had a relaxed atmosphere that made it easy to settle in. It could get busy during peak times, but the overall dining experience moved along smoothly. The staff moved through the room with efficiency, and the pacing of the meal kept the experience comfortable without feeling rushed. Overall, E.A.K. Ramen is a solid ramen spot in Hell's Kitchen with flavorful broths, a diverse menu, and a comfortable setting. While some dishes may vary depending on what you order, the strong ramen selection and variety of Japanese dishes make it a place worth checking out.

Cozy no-frills ramen bar near the theater district. I enjoyed a delicious, balanced bowl of Paitan…read moreramen ($19). No complaints, except that I guess I prefer Tonkostu (pork bone) over Paitan (chicken bone). I appreciated sitting at the bar to watch the lone ramen monger stir around the next batches of broth, hand-torching some chashu; boiling, whip-drying, and gently nestling my noodles, then manually laying out the toppings. We walked into a compact dining room with a handful of tables and counter seating facing the open kitchen, giving the space a relaxed and intimate atmosphere. The room had a warm, focused energy with the sounds of the kitchen and the hum of conversation filling the space, and the seating arrangement kept the attention on the food being prepared in front of us. The ramen is the reason to come here. We ordered a few bowls and found the signature chicken paitan broth rich, creamy, and full of flavor without feeling overly heavy. The noodles had a nice texture that held up well in the broth, and the toppings were thoughtfully prepared, with the chashu tender and the seasoned egg adding a creamy richness to the bowl. The spicy versions added an extra layer of heat without overpowering the chicken broth, and the deluxe bowls offered generous portions with additional toppings that made the meal feel more substantial. The chicken curry ramen was another standout, combining the comforting broth with a mild, savory curry flavor that added a different dimension to the bowl. The side dishes complemented the meal well, with options like bao buns, takoyaki, and onigiri adding variety, though some appetizers were on the smaller side and the ramen itself was filling enough to be the main focus. Service was generally quick, and even during busy periods the food came out at a good pace. The team moved through the room with efficiency, and the pacing of the meal kept the experience smooth without feeling rushed. The biggest thing to plan around is the limited seating. The restaurant fills up quickly, especially during lunch and dinner hours, so there may be a short wait for a table. The compact dining room could also feel crowded during peak times, but that was part of the restaurant's charm. Overall, TORIBRO Ramen is a great spot for anyone looking for a comforting bowl of chicken-based ramen in New York City. The flavorful broth, well-prepared noodles, and cozy atmosphere make it an easy place to revisit, especially on a cold day or whenever we are craving a satisfying bowl of ramen.
