Not sure why this place has such high ratings. Service was awful. Sat waiting for our waiter who did not introduce himself, the menu. Brought us water and then left and returned in 20 minutes. Saw Ottava Via profiled on Core Detroit, so I gave it a try this weekend. As other reviews have mentioned, the remodeling of the interior makes for a very pleasant experience - they clearly put a lot of thought into the space and it shows. There was a Tigers game going on so parking was tight in the immediate vicinity (courtesy of Nemo's), but we found a spot in a couple of minutes. The server was very knowledgable and helped guide us through the different pizzas. I ended up with the Funghi- lots of mushrooms, crispy crust, and other good ingredients. It was delicious! The server also informed us that the menu would be expanding as of today (8/18). I will be excited to return and try more of their pizzas as well as the new pasta dishes. Not too busy on a Saturday night, but I don't think that will last! read more

Tried this during Restaurant week and really wanted to like it. The food was average - they used a lot of garlic. The beer is really cold which is a plus but we weren't especially impressed with the two pasta dishes we tried: Arranbiata and Carbonara. Was in the area for a trade show, stopped here based on Yelp reviews. It was a Tuesday evening the restaurant was busy but there were seating options. We ended up at a high top but there are also seating at the bar and regular tables plus I noticed rooms in the back for private parties and a patio out back. Started off with a couple of the beers that were on tap (Founders Rye and Dragonhead) along with a cheese and olive plates. The truffle honey was awesome. For entrees my colleague ordered a fungi pizza while I ordered the Red Snapper special. Everything was very flavorfull, the snapper was moist and not overcooked. I love fish and send fish back to the kitchen if it is overcooked. The only negative was when I got the check, I got bill shock. While most of the entrees are reasonably priced in the $12-$20 range, the snapper was $31. Slightly more that what I would have expected at this restaurant. Overall the my experience was positive and will be back in a couple of months when I am at my next convention. read more

Enjoyed a company outing last week here. The craft cocktails were amazing! Best Bruschetta I've eaten! The fungi thin crust pizza and goat cheese with roasted garlic were delicious! Nice outdoor eating area when weather permits along with a security guarded parking lot in back. Definitely on my list of places to visit again soon! read more

What a great experience. Every year my birthday always falls on the opening day of the North American international auto show and being a huge vehicle fan, I couldn't think of a better way of spending it, and I didn't want to go far for food after and this place was in close proximity , so my boyfriend and I gave it a try. With the location being in cork town and on a Saturday night of course there was absolutely nowhere to park , however that's not a big enough deal to turn me away. After finding a parking spot , we go inside and boy oh boy it was packed and the smell of amazing food hit us right in the face. The wait time for a table for two was 45 mins , which wasn't really bad for a crowed Saturday night . Once we were seated our waiter was right with us to take our orders. We ordered the Calamari which was outta this world , the goat cheese and roasted garlic board, a chopped salad , and the salsiccia pizza. Everything was so rich in flavor and amazing ,and with a good IPA the night was set. The only downfall and reasoning behind the 4 star rating was the fact that we ordered the salad for an appetizer and didn't receive it until after we had eaten our other selections and were pretty stuffed at that point , and when explaining that to our waiter he was a bit upset with us because of it. Top 3 restaurants in Detroit, all around. Meaning, ambiance, food, service, drinks. Food - Solid all around. Top hit is the Beet salad. Cannot go wrong with the pizzas. Service - good all around. Knowledgeable bartenders. Wait time can get a bit long, but that will happen at a busy restaurant. Ambiance is good, but place can be a bit crowded with a feeling of people on top of you if in wrong spot/table. Very good liquor selection and about 8 beers on tap (I believe). read more

Had Father's Day dinner here last night after the Tigers game, and can I say, the food is absolutely fantastic! Went with a party of 10, so it made it easy to try just about everything I wanted on the menu, and nothing disappointed. Service was outstanding and I just love the general feel of the room. Loved it! The first thing I noticed was the architecture. This is an old Dime Bank branch building and the exterior has preserved the historical touches. It still says Dime Bank engraved in the stone. Inside has also saved the high ceiling and traditional look you would expect from that era. It's a cool piece of Detroit history and it's fun just to sit there and look around. Based on the reviews, my wife and I started with the melted pecorino. Amazing! I could have ordered four more of those and called it a night. Then, we had Caesar salad and a funghi pizza. Both excellent. Next time we'd like to try some of the other dishes. The people at the table next to us had some great looking pasta dishes. We went on a Saturday night at about 6:30 with no reservations. The restaurant was nicely full, but we were able to be seated right away. By about 7:30, people were waiting at the door. We will definitely be back for more melted pecorino and try out the pasta. read more

The meal was good, but it took over an hour after placing our order for the 5 of us to get our food. The dishes also came out staggered so by the time I got my pizza every else's food was cold. The staff were very friendly and courteous, but incredibly slow. It was a busy night (which is usually an indication of a great place) but our meals were not wonderful enough to make the wait, and the high price tag, worth a second visit. read more

Good service but the food was just ok. I haven't had pizza in 6 months. I was in the downtown area and decided to treat myself. I did a quick search online and saw that this place was nearby and had good reviews. I ordered the Arancini and Salsiccia pizza...the Arancini was pretty tasty but to me the pizza wasn't very special. It reminded me of a pizza from the frozen section of the grocery store. I wish I'd gone for a more traditional comfort food type of pizza for my reintroduction. read more

I love this place for the simplicity & freshness of its dishes. Some of my favorites I recommend: calamari, chopped salad, bruschetta, & the pecorino pear & truffle honey appetizers. The funghi pizza, roasted chicken, short ribs, bolognese & truffle pasta are my top picks! (I do wish theyd heat the pasta bowls before service though) They are always consistent, both in their dishes & the staff. I have never experienced anything but friendly and helpful staff. Cute place..Unfortunately charm does not a restaurant make..We started with cocktails, mine tAsted like an Italian soda, not sure where the vodka was, if I'm paying $11 for vodka and soda please put some in it..our waitress was overly attentive , not in a good way we felt rushed. She asked us four times if we were ready to order within ten minutes of us being seated. One time even before our drinks got to the table. In all of those times she stared blankly at us never did she say " you've got to try this" or " this is really popular." Our sparse charcuterie board was slapped on the table with no mention of what kind of meats or cheeses we were consuming. We had sausage and peppers on our pizza and my slice did not even have one piece of sausage. The bolognese was dry and flavorless. We had to ask for new plates to share our entrees and were given more appetizer plates which did not even hold my slice of pizza, tacky. Amazing, delicious Italian food. My party got the antipasto platter, which tasted excellent, only downfall was the amount of cheese that was received in comparison to meat, the calamari was delicious and fresh. And the arancini were decent. For our entrees, we got the chef special veal chop, the carbonara pasta, the branzino fish, and the half roasted marinated chicken. Everything was spectacular, not 1 complaint on the food. Lastly, our server, Stephanie, was wonderful! She even surprised my boyfriend with a birthday dessert since we were there celebrating his birthday dinner. She brought to us their Nutella, mascarpone cheese, and raspberry grilled toast type dessert. We can't wait to dine there again. read more

Can't say enough great things about this place. My husband and I are visiting from California and my sister recommended this place. They have an amazing patio with Bocci Ball, incredible service and delicious food. I would recommend the pizzas and the salumi boards (duck prosciutto).
