Came here as a group of four. We already had our dinner elsewhere so we ordered two pies and beers (one mashed potato w bacon and scallion pizza, one Butternut squash ricotta and cranberry). There were plenty of tables when we went there on Tuesday evening. Ambiance is casual. The pizzas came out, and they were very fresh out of the oven. Both were thin crust. Considering how much topping goes on the top, I don't think I would've wanted thick pan fried anyway (personal preference). The mashed potato was good and bacon was good; I wished there was more cheese to it. The butternut squash and cranberry was more like a dessert pizza. My husband deserved it as the "thanksgiving" style pizza. I definitely enjoyed the variations they made from the classic style we know. All the pizzas sounded unique, and I'll definitely revisit in my next Maine trip! read more

Mashed Potato, Bacon, Scallion with a smattering of cheese on the best crust ever. Get two pieces, go sit down next door. Order a glass of wine or a beer. Enjoy. So good. Soooo good. They now even offer delivery! I can't wax poetic enough. If you are in Portland go. Don't listen to the haters that they stole the name from batali or whatever. Just go. Eat bacon and mashed potatoes on pizza and be amazed. So offing good. My god. You have no idea. Wishes it was not 3am so I could go get a slice read more

Otto's hits the spot when you are looking for a different kind of pizza. I love trying out new flavor combinations and Otto's have never steered me wrong. I'm also a big fan of pizzas that don't have red sauce on them, which they offer a bunch of. The only reason I don't give them a 5 is because they are a bit pricey. It's a must try! read more

Alllllright! If you like chewing you have come to the right place! You can chew on this delicious thin crust pizza to your heart's content! It's the Perfect, easy, breezy, beautiful Cover Girl pizza spot in the middle of town. It has personality but isn't obnoxious. The menu is complex but can hold its own. It doesn't need you to need it (unlike myself). Start with a salad! They are great! Otto offered both whole pies and slices, so commitment phobs (not me), can sample a little bit of this and a little bit of that. But seriously, what's a girl Gotta do to get married already??!!?!! read more

I am a pizza lover. It's one of those guilty pleasure foods I can't seem to give up. On top of that I love all kinds of pizza and I try to make a point of trying new pizza spots all the time. With that being said, OTTO is my favorite. They've just been there for me over the last few months. From late night lineups after the bar to help soak up some beer to Bluegrass Night, to the occasional comedy show and their Happy Hour! Have you not heard about their happy hour? You sit at the bar, buy a beer and they give you a free slice of pizza! That's right, A FREE SLICE OF PIZZA! Genius! If you're into Maine mashed potatoes and don't keep kosher then definitely try the mashed, bacon and scallion. I'm also a huge fan of their cranberry / ricotta, the pulled pork / mango and pretty much everything is great. They also have a gluten free option that I've yet to try but some of my GF buddies have agreed, it's very good. If you're buying by the slice they have a frequent buyers club which will earn you an occasional free slice. If you're into delivery, I recommend downloading their iPhone app. Works well and if you create an account then with every order you'll be getting points which translate into coupons! The app also allows you to re-order if you're a creature of habit. If you love pizza, give them a try. Might not be your favorite but that's subjective anyways. I was in Maine for the weekend and was craving a delicious slice of plain pizza so I searched and found Otto. The pizza was good BUT it was way too thin, almost as if I was eating a cracker!! I love thick doughy pizza (maybe that's just me). Also the sauce was plopped on three portions of the pizza but not spread out. Overall, still a good slice of pizza but surprised a lot of people say it's the best pizza in Portland. read more

Visiting Portland for a few days and wanted some pizza to bring back to the hotel for my family. I ordered a Cheese pizza which was above average, the kids weren't too sure about the globs of sauce on top of the cheese but they ate it good. The wife and I had a tray of the Bacon Pineapple & Hot Honey which was great just kinda wish there was alittle more hot honey on it. Overall I would order from here again and recommend it read more

Their pizza-making fundamentals are not in question. So let's not kid ourselves by going here and ordering a pepperoni pizza. No, the reason to go to Otto's is to try whatever crazy idea they had to put on a pizza that day. You come here for the sweet potato pizza. The spinach tortellini pizza. Their topping menu rotates likes James Bond's license plates, so you'll never know what you might find on any given trip. But they've done this so much that they're really, really good at predicting what's going to work well on pizza. The restaurant's space is awkward, but that's just how things go in the Old Port. And for an odd shout-out, their lemonade is unusually good. read more

Wait.....this is Pizza?!!!! Mashed potato, bacon, and scallions???? It was absolutely freakin incredible!!!!! The atmosphere was relaxing, and the wait staff was engaging and attentive. This has to be one of the BEST pizza places that I have ever graced. I cannot wait to try more of their variations during a happy hour, a relaxing Sunday, or a Friday late night. There's generous seating at the bar and table sections. Great for a couples or family night out. I HIGHLY suggest that you check this place out. And I challenge those that don't like pizza to check it out. I'm sure this place would quickly turn you into a Pizza Connoisseur! Not sure how I lived before mashed potato pizza. Stopped in here for a quick dinner and tried a few different slices, all were super good and fresh.Otto is probably the best pizza in Portland area. Waitstaff could be a little more attentive, did not refill drinks or comeback to check on anything( also forgot about the bruschetta we ordered). read more

We had been to a few different locations in the Portland area and really enjoyed the pizza. We ordered 3 pizzas and cheese bread and the only thing that tasted fresh was the cheese bread, the pizzas were overcooked and tasted like they had been reheated and weren't freshly prepared. This place is such a cute little spot! It has this bar top that looks like it's been there forever and so does the walls. A lot of character! I thoroughly enjoyed our bartender. I can't remember his name for the life of me but he was polite and gave me and bf great recommendations from the menu. He also gave us a lot of great spots to try in the area! We had the everything bites which I wish had some cheese or something more hearty at the end of the bite. Good but I could have done without them. I love a good Caesar salad. And, Otto's did not disappoint. Wasn't too salty or drenched in dressing and I thoroughly enjoyed the croutons. Not sure if they were homemade but they tasted like it. Then we got the mashed potato bacon pizza. Oh. My. God. So dang good. You would think mashed potatoes and bacon would be super salty right? Wrong! They nailed the flavors and they each stand out on their own as well as together. Found my new late night craving place! read more

Did I just walk into a museum, what's with the old timey stove? Actually, what a great find walking around Portland late at night, well I think it was like 10pm, that's late for a restaurant in this area. On a quest to find something good, something inexpensive, something delicious to fill our stomachs with, my cousin and I discovered this small quirky pizza shop. When I saw the list of pizzas with bacon, scallions and mashed potatoes to spicy mango chicken, you just gotta go with it. About 20 minutes later, fresh pizza out, a quick walk back to the hotel to share our findings with the rest of the group and whoa totally blown away by the quality. Crispy, not burnt, thin crust, stringy mozzerella, sweet, savory, oniony, potatoey... Two pizzas gone in about the same time it was made. Good artisinal stuff. read more

I first visited OTTO in Brookline so I was pretty excited to try one if the original locations in Portland. There were two dining options at this Congress st location : sit and order or line up for a slice to go. The best part was you have the option to order slices yet have a nice seat to enjoy if you choose dinein. We ordered slices of the signature mashed potato, bacon and shallot pizza. They were huge, well heated and delish!! What a great combination. This is my new fav pizza combo. We also each ordered BLT salads which were great: fresh crisp lettuce , chopped tomato and bacon in a light dressing . It was pretty busy but ordering slices really cut our wait time. Hoping to visit again soon! read more

Thank the food gods for owners and employees who choose to be open on holidays. Labor day in portland and no chance for dinner before 9 pm. Nosh, reviewed elsewhere, which across the street and supposed to be open until 1 am is shuttered. Southern Italian red in tumblers and a peppy bar tendress set a good start. The nonexistent menu makes ordering for a noobie a bit difficult. Just look at the wall as they have immortalized a portion of thier menu in tile on the wall. I had a pie with herbed ricotta and oven roasted tomatoes. YUM! The guy next to me at the bar threatened to steal a piece I I didn't eat fast. Chewy, crispy crust. Well seasoned toppings. Most of the pie come without tomato sauce. Finally, you can pick up a slice and take it next door to the bar and grab a glass of wine to wash it down. This is the cheaper option as big slices are $3 each. read more

I am honestly excited about the opening of Otto on Congress Street. I think it's cute and different than anything around, and so a welcome addition. But considering they will be open until 2a on the weekends, I am PSYCHED. I really hate having to order Papa John's, but they're all that's open late-night, once you consider that I'm sure as hell never going to Bill's. Enticed by the proprietor bringing a whole pie in to my work for my coworkers and myself to try, I had two slices for lunch today, and they were quite exceptional. The crust is thin and flavorful and exactly the right crispness (for me). One slice was sausage and bacon, the other carmelized onions, tomatoes, and chicken. Both were superb, spiced heavily but not too much, salty and olive oil-y and just overall a really superb slice. Watching one of the cooks show the owner how he was spicing a certain pie, and listening to them share ideas, was really heartening; I think their care and passion will really attract attention in this town quite quickly. While $3.00 is definitely getting up there for a slice, the quality and the convenience make that pretty negligible. I can definitely see myself ordering a pie soon--they start at $12.99 for a large and they'll deliver in the arts district! read more

I'm shocked. And I'm an NYC/NJ pizza snob. This pizza was good, really good. After a few glasses of wine, we thought pizza would be the best thing... plus this place is open super late! Want pizza at 11pm? No problem. The slices are massive as the pies are cut into 6 slices and not the standard 8. We got a margherita, a plain, and the cauliflower/mushrooms. All the pizza was great, but the plain was incredible. Their sauce is super super tasty and it has the perfect amount of cheese. The pie is crispy and there's a decent crust. The pizza does have these strange little hard crumbles on the bottom,, but I actually really liked them. Slices were $3.50. Even with hours left in Portland, we'll be back to Ottos!!! read more

Booked a reservation for my wife and I to celebrate our anniversary of when we started dating and they did include a card thanking us for choosing to celebrate it with them. Was a nice little touch. Inside has a rustic feeling vibe and the low ceilings does make it quite loud. Our server eventually greeted us and took our drink orders. I had a spicy tequila cocktail called Kissies and Poppies while my wife had a gin based cocktail called Secret Garden. Both were decent but nothing special enough to rush back for. Appetizer wise the only one on their menu during our visit was freshly sliced prosciutto which was tasty but did not stand out anymore than your typical grocery store prosciutto. For the main event and the purpose of checking them out my wife got the Shrimp Linguine in Butter and Garlic. I gave their Grilled Lobster Linguine in Butter and Garlic a try. Both dishes had great flavor and they did not skimp on garlic! Lobster does come in shell and our server did warn us. Despite the good taste the slow service really left a sour taste in our mouths. Our reservation was for 9:30 PM (showed up a bit early) and didn't receive food til almost 10:30 or after and we ordered relatively quick. Our server did come over once during our wait saying it would be soon. Though once we got our food the server didn't check on us again til we finished. Maybe it was due to being part of the last meals being served. Not a great excuse but who knows, extremely lackluster service for a higher end spot that should make you feel welcome! We did skip out on dessert to avoid more waiting. Im glad so many people enjoy this spot, but if my wife and I are feeling a nicer dinner we will go elsewhere!

I found their combo with two kids burgers so satisfying for the desire of a time when that company we don't visit anymore had reasonable prices. I was happy to pay Butcher's prices because it was so much better than even the memories of those other burgers were. But the real reason I HAD to write this glowing review is that we also got the onion rings. These onion rings are the best damn onion rings I've ever had. I got full on the burgers and fries and first helping of rings. Then a few hours later I polished off the rest of the rings. This place is a jewel you should not miss, especially if you need a break from seafood.

It was so good that I kept putting it on everything. I honestly wish they bottled and sold it because I would have bought several bottles to take home to Arizona and give as gifts to my coworkers. The clams were disappointing, a bit on the rubbery and soggy side, sitting under the haddock getting steamed in the process. The breading had disappeared. The tiny shrimp added nothing to the dish. The cole slaw that came with both plates was weak, with little if any dressing and overly shredded veggies. All in all it was just okay, but admittedly a disappointment. I should have went with the lobster roll.

The manager I spoke with was so rude, I downloaded yelp to warn others. It's a real shame. Hopefully the owner sees this and makes some changes to the team before they loose more customers.

The dining room manager came rushing over to our table and abruptly said, "I hate to ask you to leave, but we need the table."!! We got up to leave and I looked at the clock - 7:10. Yes, there probably was another reservation,but we had not been told that in advance. And wasn't there a nicer way of saying that? Or suggesting we could go to the bar? I was insulted by being asked to leave. But I did; however, I will never return. For the price you pay to dine there, you should leave with a positive feeling, not feeling you were dismissed.
