I'm a bit shocked at how great the reviews are. Apparently cedarburg doesn't mind pre-made, microwaved food. We ordered a Cuban and mac & cheese. The flavor of the Cuban was unimpressive, as was the size for $6. Putting horseradish on a Cuban is just wrong. The Mac and cheese sauce had a nice cheddar flavor. Too bad the noodles were heated in a microwave, had the cheese sauce poured on and then heated in the microwave again. Sadly, the hummus was my favorite thing! We also ordered a peanut butter trophy which we loved. Point being, stick to dessert only. read more

I know the pricing is fair, but if I had a scale it would literally show less than 1 oz of meat for their cuban. My boyfriend and I went here last night for dinner and you would have thought we went to two separate restaurants based on the meals we received. I ordered the Pecan Chop salad with chicken and it was stellar. Loaded with delicious ingredients and a great value for the money - I highly recommend it. My boyfriend, on the other hand, ordered the roast beef sandwich on gluten free bread. It was priced similarly to my salad, but looked like something you would get in a sad school hot lunch. A comically tiny sandwich, with only the thinnest layer of roast beef. I think he put it down in 6 bites. It was disappointing to see such a stark gap in value between the salad and the sandwich and, based on our experience, I recommend steering clear of anything on the sandwich menu. read more

The new (temporary) location is down the road about 1/2 mile from the walk up stand. This new location you can walk in and place your order. I have only had the huge butter burgers, cuban sandwich, and of course the frozen custard. The frozen custard is always amazing and the flavors rotate daily. Great custard! What I particularly like is that you can pick any 3 items to add to your chocolate or vanilla custard, so it's like being able to customize it. Tastes great too! I love Out & Out. It's my favorite spot in Cedarburg I think! It's inexpensive and so delicious. I am surprised it only has 4 stars! The custard smoothies are delicious (but quite sweet). Sundaes are also great. The mac and cheese is so good! I prefer to eat it plain much better than the doctored up ways that they offer it. I haven't found a sandwich that I didn't like, but my favorites are: Roast Beef, BMT (Basil, Mozzarella, & Tomato), and the Cuban. Lastly, they also have very good soup! I hate to do this, but it's gotten to that point. My wife has celiac disease--a strong autoimmune reaction to gluten that causes lasting long-term internal damage, but also dramatic and painful shorter-term effects like uncontrollable and instantaneous explosive diarrhea, brain fog, cramping, nausea, migraines, etc--than can last from hours to several weeks. She was diagnosed just earlier this year. She has been getting glutened at Out & Out every single time we go lately. Of the last, say, 10 times we've been there (we go there often, because the kids in particular love the mac & cheese), my wife has had severe reactions after eating there probably 7 of those times. Of the last 5 times, 4 of them. Of the last 4, all 4. Some of these times include sandwiches made with gluten-free bread, but most are salads and GF-mac & cheese. This last time is what has prompted this review. Second week of Sept 2018. Normally they put a little tag on the sandwiches to indicate they've prepared it with the gluten-free bread. There was no tag on the sandwich. My wife takes the sandwich, still in its wrapper, back up to the window to ask. She tells him she wanted to make sure the sandwich was prepared properly because of her gluten allergy, and that there's normally a tag on the wrapper. A man who was apparently a supervisor/manager basically blew her off, saying "it's fine" and nothing more. Didn't have any interest, apparently, in examining the sandwich to be sure. Didn't really care. Wife is out with a couple of her friends for lunch. Eats the sandwich. She travels into peoples' homes as part of her job. She still had multiple appointments that afternoon. Roughly half an hour after eating the sandwich, she started having familiar symptoms. However, the reaction this time is WAY stronger than usual. Stomach cramping, sweating, bloating, incredible nausea, and an urgent need to get to a toilet for diarrhea. With being unable to use the toilet in her patients' houses, per her company's policy, she is forced to alter the rest of her day, and ride it out as best she can. A few hours later, she's home bent over the toilet, still sweating, still cramping, still nauseous and dry-heaving. Her discomfort and extreme stomach pain continued on for HOURS into the next day... and general discomfort persisted for several days after. And the longer-term internal damage to her body, definitely done. If her typical reaction to a cross-contamination glutening is, let's say, an 8 out of 10, this was over 100. The only thing we can figure out, because the reaction was so strong (and the internal damage no doubt a non-trivial setback to her long-term health), is that the sandwich bread was not actually gluten-free as ordered. Not sure what else to say here, but I would like to think O&O would care about such things if they're going to offer the options. The indifference shown by staff was just inappropriate in the first place. It would be really great if someone in charge could actually educate staff on what gluten is and what does to people who aren't just avoiding it for lifestyle reasons, and implement procedures in the restaurant to ensure they're doing all they can. And again, we've been coming to O&O for many years--since it started in fact--and have always loved it. As I've mentioned, my wife has celiac disease, and our younger son was very recently diagnosed with it as well. O&O at this point is an eating destination we can no longer trust. This issue, for those affected by it, is literally life-threatening. Please, PLEASE, take GF options seriously or don't offer them at all. :( read more

The new building just opened. Love it. Only bad thing is the traffic pattern. When it's crowded be prepared to be sitting down to eat with people's butts in your face who wait in line. Cedarburg really needs a place like this - an alternative to the fatty, nasty chains. But every time I come here I'm disappointed with the food. The BMT - basil, mozzarella, tomato - I want to be great but it's not. The bread is just average and they're stingy withy the cheese. And the Pecan Chop Salad is below average. It's not even a chop salad. The greens are really good and the balsamic dressing is good, but the rest is so average I lost interest after a few bites. The carrots were dry and looked like they came out of a bag. The pecans were hard to find and not sweet or salty. The tomatoes were just big pink chunks. I hate to plug California Pizza Kitchen but the have an excellent Asian Chopped Salad. Everything is chopped fine. The Out & Out salad isn't chopped at all. Nothing exciting or flavorful about it. I did like the slushy ice tea. That was a nice surprise. I really don't feel like going back. Too bad - love the concept. I just don't like the food. read more

I was the lucky recipient of a charity raffle prize. Out and Out donated an Office Party for 12 for a charity Oceans of Fun. The employees were so gracious from ordering, preparing and bringing out my order (curbside for COVID). Our food was wonderful. We had a wrap it up platter and a pecan chopped salad. Everything was so fresh and delicious. There was a great selection of wraps. Something for everyone. They also included chips, big homemade cookies and all the supplies we needed to serve and eat. My guests loved it all. In the future, I will order my party food from Out and Out. It was a great value, stress free and allowed us more time to get ready for our party and visit with our guests. We went there this evening with some mild expectations. It was OK. Not bad, but not really wonderful. My first observation came when shortly after we arrived, a customer returned a dish to the kitchen and asked for them to cook it a bit more, that it was 'a bit underdone' followed by the telltale sound of keys being pressed on the keyboard of a microwave, followed by the sound of an Amanna Pro Microwave turntable in action. I looked over beyond the counter and saw a beautiful Blodgett 8 burner stove and convection oven, pristine and not in use. In there place, two microwave ovens and a paninni. I ordered the tuna wrap which was nice, no complaints but nothing fantastic. My wife had the buffalo chicken sandwich and she described it as OK, but really, deli shaved chicken. I wish that they would make their food fresh. They have all this wonderful kitchen equipment that is just sitting there. I enjoyed the vibe of the decor. Lots of reclaimed wood such as bleacher seats used as wall paneling and thick barewood tables. Will I return? Hmm. I was not dazzled. read more

Do not let the word "custard" scare you off, health nuts. There is a lot of freshness and Paleo-friendly menu items here. I was pleasantly surprised when I was able to order a Greek salad with greens that included sprouts. Yeah! The salad was a nice portion size, offered wonderful flavor, and allowed me a guilt-free lunch from a custard stand. That included my side of carrots and hummus. Seriously, Out & Out? I love you. By the time I'm done eating the salad and side, I forget all about the custard. Kind of. I find myself glancing back at the malts, but remind myself that there is another time for that. I am not going to waste my calories on that when Out & Out has so many diet-friendly options without sacrificing taste. This is a new midday fave! read more

The Out & Out is adorable. The custard is fine, not the greatest, but the mac and cheese is one of the best things I've ever ingested. I am sure it's just a powdered cheese mixed with curly noodles, but that cheese sauce is one of the most perfect flavors I've experienced. When we travel we always try and use Yelp as a guide to finding different places to eat. We are used to tons of fresh food and so after the second day of fried food that seems popular around Milwaukee we were looking for something a little lighter. This place is a refreshing change.
