We visited the Clifton location on 03/01 at around 1:30 pm for my husband's birthday. We had a reservation at 2 pm for a party of 9 but we arrived early. Our table was literally 5 steps away from the bathrooms, people kept walking by coughing. One heavy set server kept sneezing and kept looking at us every time he walked by. Our server did not introduce himself and immediately asked what we wanted to drink right off the bat. We all felt that he didn't want to serve us. We didn't want to make a big deal and make a scene, plus it's also my husband's birthday. The server rarely checked on us and didn't bother to ask if we needed anything. The food tasted old like it's been sitting around and it was reheated. We felt discriminated against and it was just NOT a great experience. We arrived on Saturday night of Super Bowl weekend to a packed restaurant. Luckily, we had decided to use the "call ahead" seating option and were pleasantly surprised when we arrived and were told by Austin, the host who was handling the front of the house, that our wait would be less than 10 minutes. We were offered samples of the Blooming Onion by a server and made to feel very comfortable by Austin, who appeared to be handling the huge crowd very efficiently, as our table was ready in about five minutes. Even though the restaurant was packed, our waiter Trevor checked in with us almost immediately and took our drink and appetizer order. We ordered the macaroni and cheese bites and ahi tuna, which were both excellent, the tuna far exceeding our expectations. Our salads (definitely try the mustard vinaigrette dressing!) arrived right after we finished our appetizers, which were followed by our entrees, which were all delicious. Our 3 medium rare steaks were cooked exactly as we like them, warm / red center, seasoned and seared outside. Our waiter checked back several times and made sure we didn't run low on drinks and bread/butter (do treat yourself to the bread, it's definitely worth it!) and the manager even stopped by to check in with us. The food was excellent and the service far exceeded our expectations, especially for such a busy weekend night (Note: we had quite the opposite experience at another local restaurant the night before, with both food and service, so we were really pleased with our entire Outback experience) We'll definitely come back again to try some of the newer menu options! Dined in ordered food and desert to go. Got home had hair in my ice cream called back up to outback was told that I was only going to be refunded for my ice cream. Told the manager Wayne I didn't want the food because I didn't know if there was more hair. I was told I know that wasn't the case and to have a good night then I was hung up on. I went to restaurant and asked to speak to Wayne. Gave all the food back and told them I wanted all my money back. He took the bag walked to the back and then another man named peter or Pete who claims to be the owner came up to me and asked me how he could help I told him I wanted my money back he said he wasn't gonna give my money back and didn't know why I returned to the restaurant. I told him he will refund me because I gave all the food back. He told me he would refund me and to leave the restaurant I refused to leave until I got a receipt showing the refund.. About 10 mins later I was shown a receipt that said $0.00 and I asked where does it say it was refunded (because most of the time you have to sign a refund receipt) and I was asking if I could read. I then snatched the receipt out of his hand and proceeded to walk out of the door but stopped because I had my son with me and was told to get out. One thing I do consistently is to tell restaurants when I've had a great experience. Conversely, if I've had a crappy experience, I let them know that, too...in a constructive and non-"you're idiots" way. How else will they get any better (or be appreciated if everything went well) if no one ever critiques their food, good or bad? It's just frustrating when you know you take the time to do these types of things, and it probably will not, in the end, make one whit of difference. I got some sub-mediocre food at the Outback curbside takeaway tonight. Description follows: Pros: 1. When I called to order, they picked up the phone and took my order - full rack of ribs, baked potato with butter/sour cream/chives/cheddar cheese, chopped side salad - as soon as I hit "zero" during the "greeting." 2. The girl got my order down correctly the first time. YAY! Someone who spoke and understood English! YAY! 3. When I arrived at the advised time, the waitress came right out with a big smile and cheery personality, took my card, and brought my food back out immediately. Her tip went from 10% to 20% based on that one exchange alone. Cons: 1. As soon as I got home, I took the ribs out of the bag and my first thought was "Hm. That doesn't smell like much." This was not a good sign. 2. Then I looked at them, and it looked like they had been sitting under a heat lamp for a significant amount of time before I ever even picked them up. From the time I ordered it to the time I picked up the food was exactly 25 minutes. 3. The first, middle, last, and overarching taste to the ribs was SALT. Yes, I know. Ribs are most definitely not a low-salt food, but if that is THE main ingredient you can taste in every bite, someone doesn't know how to season ribs or make BBQ sauce. And the "flavor" of the sauce was very underwhelming. Wouldn't you have to go out of your way to make BBQ not taste like much...? And the ribs were dry, dry, DRY. They'd have to have been sitting for quite some time and/or be overcooked, seeing as how fatty babyback ribs naturally are, to have gotten that dried out. 4. The "butter", "chives" (which turned out to be green onions and not chives. I would have liked it if the person had told me they were out of chives and substituted the green onions), sour cream, and grated cheddar were all on the side. Of course, by the time I got home (3 mins up the street from the restaurant) the potato had already started to cool down (or, how long had it been sitting under the heatlamp already...?), so the butter nor cheese nor sour cream melted when I put them on the potato. 5. The whipped "butter" didn't seem to be very buttery-tasting, so I just had a taste off the tip of my knife to see what it was. Ultimately, I could not tell if it was butter or margarine. Huh...? 6. The chopped salad was ok, but I really hate it when people put big globs of blue cheese in a chopped salad instead of breaking it up in smaller pieces. Please. I love blue cheese, but I don't want a tablespoon in every forkful of salad. I called and talked to the manager about the problem. As soon as I said the ribs were not great, before I even had a chance to say why, she asked me if they were dry. Hm... She also sounded very rushed and seemed to be in somewhat of a hurry to end the call. I've had several jobs dealing with customer service issues over my lifetime, and rushing a disgruntled customer, particularly when they are not taking an inordinate amount of time trying to get an issue resolved, is not the way to go. She offered to credit back the cost of the ribs, or send me a gift certificate to try them again, so I said I'd like the certificate and to give them another chance. Needless to say, next time I'm not expecting much, and I am definitely not ordering the ribs. My biggest gripe of all is my eternally long-standing pet peeve. The vast majority of restaurants in Western Fairfax County are very, VERY, VERY MEDIOCRE at best. With as much as people eat out, you'd think someone would actually do something about that issue. My husband has the highest tolerance for crappy food of anyone I've ever met; he'll eat anything that's put in front of him - I have never in my life seen him leave a plate half-eaten before tonight. He got the Bloomin burger. He said the burger was so plain and raw it was tasteless, it had zero seasoning or sauce. On top of that, the bun was dry and stale. There were two slices of American cheese that were unmelted. The actual bloomin onions on the burger were cold and had obviously been sitting out for a while - the reason we know this is because we ordered the bloomin onion petals as our appetizers and they were the exact same except the ones on his burger had been sitting out for an hour and the appetizer was so fresh it literally burnt our fingers! The food is what you can expect from any Outback; not bad, not great, slightly overpriced. The service here is really spotty. With one or two exceptions, the majority of bartenders and wait staff are inattentive to the point of frustration. Unless you are one of the locals on a first name basis (who appear to have no life outside this place) you'll need a flare gun to get someone to stop again after food arrives. We love the Outback Steakhouse in Clifton, VA. Just like the great ones we've been to in other places, this restaurant gets it right. The service is awesome, the place is spotlessly clean, and parking is plentiful. Most importantly, the steaks are amazing...cooked to perfection. We live within 2 miles of the Outback in Burke, VA and have been there at least four times and every time that place has been awful. My worst was a steak salad served with a long black hair on top. We never go to that one anymore. It's worth the drive to Clifton to get a world-class Outback experience! read more

Their service is phenomenal! Every time I try a new place I bring my stopwatch to see how long it takes for me to properly served. I waited 4:37 for a table with isn't bad since she told me it would take 10 minutes for a table to become available. After that I waited 2:06 for my server to get my drink order. After 6:28 my server returned with my drink (sprite no ice) and took my food order (steak-well done). Normally steaks take 25-30 minutes to cook and it took 26:17 for my steak to arrive which was pretty normal. After my steak arrived my server returned in 8:44 to see if I wanted anything else, I said no. 15 minutes pass by and I ask for the check. Overall my server was very kind and tentative. The $15 steak and lobster special brought me here. I'll admit my expectations were low because... well, how good can $15 steak and lobster be? I'm thrilled to report it was incredible! The steak was juicy and tender and perfectly prepared, as was the lobster. What pushed this review over the top were the mixed vegetable medley side of squash, carrots and broccoli. These weren't any normal vegetables; they must have laced them with something illegal because they were amazing! Nothing bad to say about this place. It's a good place to go when craving red meat. We went for dads birthday. Got the booming onion man I forgot how good it was. The bread came out warm and when I asked for the honey butter it came out quickly. I got the ribeye MR and man it was good. Cooked perfectly, spiced wonderfully. The veggies were delicious as were the sweet potatoes. Dad got prime rib rare. Fiance got prime rib blackened medium. They both thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Mom got baby back ribs and they were fall off the bone yummy. It's a great chain restaurant. The manager and wait staff were wonderful and very attentive. I went to this Outback for the first time about a month ago and it was by far the worst steak I've ever had at an Outback. I get the sirloin medium rare, and it was nearly impossible to cut or chew, I left feeling uncomfortable and unsatisfied. Service was slow, and after they took our card it was another 30-40 minutes before we got it back and could leave. Since they are one of my favorite chains I decided to go back on Valentine's Day to give it another chance. It was infinitely better, and even though it was crowded the service was good, we got our food even quicker when the restaurant was packed then we had the first time we went when there were very few other diners. I'm pretty confident the slow service and bad quality of meat from our first visit was a fluke. I'll return again to give it another chance! read more

Our waitress, Bonnie J, was not interested in serving us at all. She took our drink order and gave us bread...that was the best part of the experience. The person who I was with and I ordered an appetizer and ate bread while we decided what to eat. She then came back to take our order. After that...we waited and waited and the appetizer didn't come. My dates salad came and I thought it was weird the salad came and not the appetizer. About 15 minutes later, our dinner shows up (a waitress who isn't ours delivers it to our table for us). She asks us if we need anything else and we say we were supposed to have an appetizer. She then goes and tells our waitress who comes by and says "so, I forgot your appetizer." She pauses and we just look at her. She then proceeds to say that she can either bring us the appetizer while we're eating our dinner or prepare it to go and she can put it on the check. Or we can just take it off the check and not receive our appetizer. Seriously? How about you comp our appetizer for your poor, slow service? You never even replenished our bread and we had to ask for drink refills. What was a nice date to begin with was ruined by terrible service. I'm very unhappy with this visit. read more
