We had a party of five and we trickled in one at a time and our waiter Saleem was very patient with us and got our drinks as we requested. He also gave some good recommendations on specialty drinks. Ordered my meal to go online. Portobello steak medium rare, and a half order of ahi tuna. I got 2 sweet potatoes...don't know why I only ordered one. My side of broccoli was a bit too mushy so I trashed it; I really didn't want it but there's no option for "no second side". I got bread even though I clicked 'no'. My steak my cooked well...was expecting more mushrooms and a bit more size of a steak for $13. It was the appetizer that pissed me off. The slaw was inedible...it tasted wooden and stale. Visiting Outback was nothing short of depressing. After being greeted by a clean restaurant and upbeat waiter, we were served a meal that demonstrates the decline of the American food industry. The blooming onion, which was a family favorite for most of the country at some point, has become a golden oval made of salt and some onion thrown in there. All of the main courses came out with some defect (steal was rare when asked for medium rare, forgot to bring out the side soup etc.). It's also became apparent that outbacks main ingredient has become sugar, which is also depressing for the amount of people who still rave about the restaurant chain. It's also a pet peeve of mine when they bring boxes to your table for you to box your food yourself, which shows, for me, a lack of caring about the customer's experience. I leave Outback realizing the best part of the meal was either the bread, or the moments of scanning the menu thinking of all the possibilities. The service was great. We got there a few minutes before the opened so we wanted until about 5 after then walked to the door they hadn't unlocked the doors yet. The food was okay. On Mothers Day I couldn't go to the res so my son ordered delivery. I anticipated a long wait so we ordered at 4pm, delivery was scheduled for 5:52. No problem. Our dasher brought our order at 6:15. Again no problem. However after unpacking our meal...2 - 12 oz rib eyes, salads, baked potatoes, a blooming onion, fried mushrooms and creamed spinach. Well, it was all COLD. My steak was so thin I couldn't believe it. The creamed spinach wasn't creamy it was dry and brown. The mushrooms were soggy and greasy. When I went to put the blooming onion on a plat, not only was it soggy, it looked like it was fried twice because it was dark, dark brown, and the grease on the bottom of the containers was probably about 2 tablespoons. Im retired from the food industry and this was so unacceptable. I've worked I test kitchens and have cooked for 35 years. I will never go to Outback again. read more

Visited here 10/8/19 around 9pm. This was my first time eating at an Outback Steakhouse but I was with 4 other coworkers, so I thought if they liked Outback, I'd like it as well. Well, that wasn't the case for me. Actually 3 of the 5 meals were terrible. The appetizer we ordered was actually very tasty. It was some kinda fried shrimp and lobster bites, can't remember the exact name. I also ordered baked potato soup. It was decent but kinda salty. Rick ordered the grilled chicken on the Barbie with a baked potato. He enjoyed his meal. Luther ordered the steakhouse philly and fries. He really liked his meal as well. Myself and 2 others ordered the new bloomin fried chicken meal which comes with mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. The picture in the menu looked great and all 3 of us were sold. Well what they brought us was not like the picture. The chicken was so thick, overcooked, and DRY! The mashed potatoes were a big stiff lump of crap. I'll post pictures as well. I'll post the menu picture and then the actual pictures. It was such a long day of work for us that we didn't even feel like returning the food and waiting for more and since the job paid for the meal, we were just like 'blah' at that moment. You cannot have a picture that looks all nice with golden crispy chicken and creamy mashed potatoes but then bring out dark dry thick overcooked chicken and stiff potatoes. Just ridiculous. It took 15 minutes for our bottled beer to come from the bar, the server rarely came to check on our table which led to us having empty glasses of even Waterford the majority of the night. I had one glass of coke and when he asked if I wanted a refill I asked for water vice coke. He brought me another coke. I politely asked again when he came back and he said sure thing! He never came back with it, I took my friends water instead. I just dined at the Outback tonight and was horrified on how they were handling the COVID issue. Our waitress was hugging customers with no masks on and then coming over to serve us. There were people simply walking in with no masks what so ever and a woman and her daughter walked past our table several times without a mask and management nor our waiter said a word to her. Groups of staff members coming in from outside just to take their masks off and huddle by the computers. Also, 30% staff members had there masks below their nose. I was hoping to see a family member for Christmas and now will have to get a COVID year thanks to the staffs purely gross negligence. It's so upsetting to see how these folks are handling the Covid pandemic especially around the holidays. read more

The worst service we ever had! We asked to sit by the bar; boy was that a mistake! The bartender was our server & didnt seem to be new at the job. Our salad came out before our appetizer, soon to be followed by our meal. We went at 1 o'clock, thinking we wouldn't be there long. Our table wasn't pre-bussed, we weren't asked if we wanted drink refills, and waited 20 minutes for our check to be picked up! She even went by the table behind us 3 times after dropping our check! In general, I dislike Outback Steakhouses. I've always wondered how they manage to rate so high on the Zagat "Best Steak" list since the locations I've visited have often displayed a startling inability to cook a steak properly, or in the case of Sierra Vista, Arizona's version, the inability to even serve the steak I ordered. This restaurant, however, is an exception, and for that I give them four stars. Not only do they know the difference between a sirloin and a prime-rib, but they know how to properly season and cook them. This shouldn't be such a rare feat (get it?) but the sad truth is that most places only know how to do rare, medium, and well-done. Furthermore, the side dishes are all as fresh and tasty as the entrees. I've honestly never had better food from an Outback Steakhouse. I'm not sure if all Outback's have been updated as this one has, but I also want to point out that the design of the interior of the restaurant has been refreshed to a much less-kitschy, much more modern and almost sophisticated look. This particular establishment is one of the few chain restaurants that can actually go toe-to-toe with the locally owned smaller restaurants against which it competes. There's not much else that stands out in this town, but this place sure does. Bravo, Colonial Heights Outback Steakhouse, bravo. read more

Awful service. I sat at bar and watched the bartender talk to other patrons and do bar chores for a good 5 minutes, i would've left but there isn't much else around here. Finaly ordered a drink and dinner. Second bartender put in the order. Salad comes out...iceberg...grape tomatoes, croutons and one small piece of red onion. Bread & butter comes out and bread knife was greasy, like slathered in butter. Steak comes out rare, ordered MR, fries are soggy. I send back for new fries. While food is on way back to kitchen 2nd bartender asks if i wanted another drink, I declined. She then tells me she'll get me my check...I explain food was sent back...back comes steak and hot fries. Steak is a bit overpowering with black pepper. So as much as I like Outback, it has been a while since I've been to one. This location will be my first and last to go to. Upon arrival I'm seated fairly quickly as I was dining by myself. And as I normally do, I time to see how long it takes for a server to welcome and greet me. It took exactly 11 minutes 49 seconds to come to my table. The worst part is the server was waiting on customers next to me and gave me eye contact but never greeted me. At the almost 12 minutes I was approached by the server who's opening statement begins with "You know what you want to drink" no hello no apology, like I was supposed to wait that long. That alone was the straw that broke the camels back. Poor customer service will always be the source of no tip from me, a complaint to management and non future visits to that establishment. read more

Wow! I didn't think Outback in Colonial Heights would have been so jam-packed with people at 6:00pm on a Friday night. After making our way to the front desk, we put in a request for a table for 2 and the hostess handed us a buzzer device. We were lucky enough to snag two seats at the packed bar after hovering around for only a couple minutes. So it starts...the beginning of a memorable night. Within the time it took us to drink a couple beers, the buzzer went off and we were politely greeted and seated. Our server was friendly and was able to answer our questions about new, featured menu items. She refreshed our drinks and took our order. I've been to this location at least 5 or 6 times in the recent past, so I was expecting thick, juicy steaks served up fresh and fast. Fast is no joke. As slammed as they were, the bloomin' onion came out in a flash, quickly followed by salads. I was worried that we wouldn't be finished with the first courses before the steaks arrived. The moment we finished up the salads, as if on cue, here comes our server with our entrees. The steaks and my lobster tail were delivered as ordered. Overall, a great casual dining experience that's predictably and consistently satisfying. The experience was on track to make a five-star rating except for a kitchen mistake of putting slivered almonds in a dessert that we specifically asked (3 times) if it was tree-nut free. Two bites in, my friend's mouth starts to tingle and get bumpy. Needless to say, he proceeds to spit out his food in front of me, followed by a rinse and spit. Not pretty to look at...not pretty at all. We flagged down another server who quickly brought more ice water and a manager. After a couple minutes of freaking out and wondering if a trip to the car for the epi-pen would be necessary, things in my friends mouth/throat area calmed down. Kinda embarrassing, but I must say, the managers and servers handled the situation well. The true measure of good customer service is how trained and empowered the staff and management are to address problems when they come up. Kudos! Here's some ordering tips: 1. If you don't like salads drenched in dressing, be sure to order it on the side. They're a little heavy-handed on the dressing here. 2. If ordering lobster tail, choose it steamed. The grilled lobster can come out a bit dry and chewy while the steamed is usually tender and moist. 3. Don't bother taking home any left over bloomin' onion.
