Went on Wednesday evening a week ago (5/03/17). The place came up short on the national Wonderful Wednesday deal--no craft beer (just soft drink), and the sirloin was $2 more. Placated by waiter suggesting the $14.49 deal--soup, salad, sirloin, and dessert. Cream of onion soup was NOT served hot, and was too stringy. Everything else was ok. I've worked at The Ranch at Rock Creek, which is a Forbes Five Star venue, and people like him are very sought after. So on the road trip my friends and I took last year one of our goals was to go every chain restaurant in America. Not every location, just one of each. We saw the Outback near our motel and of course we needed to go. I had never been to one before and all I knew about was the onion blossom. We got to the restaurant and it was about half full. My friend who is actually from Australia got a kick from the decor. She thought it was funny. We quickly sat and cracked the menus. My friend noticed that they refer to shrimp as shrimp instead of prawns. It was clear authenticity was not a primary concern. We decided on our food and ordered. I don't even remember what I got, nor do I remember what my Scottish friend ordered, but my Australian friend ordered a steak. It wasn't expensive, but it wasn't cheap either - $20 +/- $1. It took a while for our food to arrive which was fine as we knew stake takes a little longer. Obviously, my food was unremarkable but unremarkable food does not a one star review make. A BAKED steak does. OK, it was "broiled" but who has EVER heard of a broiled steak that had the consistency of a chew toy? I don't eat steak, but I my friend picked it up and flapped it around. It was rubbery. My friend sent it back just to have it returned unchanged. She was so angry, as was I. The apathetic service was evident. All we wanted was a fun meal at a campy restaurant, what we got was fodder for complaints for the next week. Thus ended our plan to go to every chain restaurant we could find. The food (meaning Steak and Seafood) is pretty darn good for being in Montana. The steaks you kinda expect, but the seafood has a long way to travel. We also love their salads especially the Cobb Salad or the Blue Cheese Wedge. Soups are okay but the baked potatoes are really top notch. You know what is best though? The manager always comes around and asks you how the meal was. That impresses us because they are usually in the kitchen yelling at the help. We will come often. Well.. was easy to get to. I ordered 30 plus (honestly) minutes ahead. Order was immediately brought out but.. mushrooms were rubber. This restaurant can be very hit or miss. The food is always great. Nothing amazing being that this is a chain restaurant, but decent. I've had appetizers, steaks, chicken, and pork and its always been good. The price is average and correllates respectively to amount of food, or at least close to it. The hit or miss part I'm referring to would be the service. I've had servers forget about my party and/or rush us out the door. Lately, I've had the complete opposite. I have eaten at the Missoula outback several times. Never disappointed. Last night was completely different. Salad looked recycled, had salt and pepper on it. I have never had a side salad come with salt and pepper before. Did not touch it after that. Steak with lobster mac and cheese. Steak was burnt, mac was hot and cold in spots. My sons steak was burnt, he loved his mac and cheese. Server was awesome, manager came over gave me a 20 gift card and a free blooming onion card. I was sick all night. I dont know if I will be back. The food and service was normal. I was seated in the bar area and I asked to watch the local MSU game. I understand it is homecoming for our local team but I wanted to see how the other team is doing in my state. I was told they don't get that channel. Then I thought this is somewhat a sports bar, why would they not get this channel. I get home and see the game is on a local channel I could get with bunny ears on my T.V. I hate being lied to. I would rather be told the truth. Long story short if they lied about that, what else would they lie about? BTW I have generally spent about $1700 dollars a year at this establishment. read more

I haven't left a negative review before, but our experience tonight was extraordinarily bad. We were in town for a wedding the day before and were having dinner before leaving town the next day. My wife ordered the steak salad, and mid-way through said she bit into something bitter and spit out a half chewed black and orange beetle. I put it on my plate and our waiter called over the manager. He apologized and said that this has never happened before and said that it would be taken care of. In his haste to take away the half chewed beetle, he also cleared my steak that I had only eaten half of. We paid for the steak, but received some free dessert coupons; sadly we won't be going back to use them. read more

This location is under new management and recently renovated. Outback Steakhouse is opening for lunch seven days a week beginning December 1st. We're on vacation from CA. Decided on one of usual spots (we have Outback's Dine Rewards) - they're in the process of remodeling outside so wasn't sure they were open, but they are, and we're glad we stopped! Problem is they spoiled us for our CA Outback. My steak & lobster were perfect as well as my husband's porterhouse. We have been to this Outback twice now and the first time the food was great and service was amazing. The second time the service was still amazing, but the meat was very....chewy. We might have got bad cuts this time around, but my potato seemed to have been a leftover from the previous night. There was a significant amount of the potato that wasn't edible. If it wasn't for the great service and that I love their seasoning I probably wouldn't come back. The cooks are really screwing the servers when they send out subpar food. read more

Not such a great experience. The dinner started out with ordering lemonade which had a horrible aftertaste. Next we ordered the Bloomin Onion very very greasy. Both the husband and I ordered two different salads lettuce was old kind of gassy tasting and very dry. I ordered coconut shrimp they were overcooked and the the Coconut was borderline burnt. Is it just me or did this place get expensive for a chain restaurant. $14 for a bacon cheeseburger that was under cooked and kids meals are $8. My wife and I took our 8yr old daughter for her birthday. The salmon my wife and daughter were sharing was raw in the middle. Yes raw, I have worked in many kitchens. there resolution was to go heat it till it was cooked through(in a microwave in my opinion), it was terrible. Then they charged us full price. After complaining online we received a blooming onion and a free dessert and a 20$ gift card(not even the price of that dish $21.99). I don't know who is running things over at the Outback(actually I do I met him when we had the raw fish, this was actually handled by the G.M.), but if you want someone who knows business, restaurants, and people; get a hold of me. I wish I would've gotten the food the way I ordered. I wasn't too impressed with outback or the service, first I was sat and literally had to wait 7 min before the waitress came to ask for drinks then I ordered med-rare steak which was too well-done. I also ordered the calamari and that was also overcooked and too rubbery, I should've ordered a blooming onion instead. I usually like going to outback steakhouses but the one in Missoula had me wishing I went somewhere else to get a steak the way I like. read more

I love Outback it is one of my favorite places to eat. Tonight I decided to do curbside pickup and it took them forever! I waited almost 20 minutes past the time they told me it would be done! I was pleasantly surprised with my visit here. My server, Eden, was pretty awesome! Very personable and helpful without being pushy. I came in late so I felt like I should rush but he settled me down and let me relax. The bone in rib eye I got was wood fired and it tasted fantastic! It was a very good piece of meat. I didn't add anything to it. The selection of beer was satisfactory. I always like to try local brews since I travel so frequently. I have enjoyed this Outback location for about 6 years now. It's been the perfect restaurant for all kinds of functions from a quick 1 hour lunch during the work week to a larger family gathering. Did I just say it's a great place to go for a quick lunch ? Shhh ! Don't tell anyone, because I am still convinced most people in Missoula don't know that Outback is open for lunch. For those of us in the know, it's one of the best kept secrets in town and the lunch rush you see at most restaurants is simply not here, thankfully for us ! We are always greeted by a smiling faced host or hostess and lead to our table with daily suggestions and specials. Everything on the menu is good, well almost everything. Personal preference steers me away from that Bloomin' Onion, but I know it's a personal favorite for many. During my most recent visit last week for lunch, I had the Aussie Chicken Tacos. Available in a 2 or 3 taco iterations. Nicely grilled and seasoned and cut chicken strips with cabbage slaw, pico de gallo and a small cup of "to die for" herb and garlic aioli served in a scrumptious tender shell accompanied by a nice helping of seasoned fries. (Other choices were available for the side such as mashed potatoes, broccoli and mixed seasonal veggies). The tacos are available in steak and fish (cod) versions as well and these may just be in my sights for my next visit. My lunchmate had the Philly steak sandwich on a sub type roll. Nice strips of steak, green pepper and onions and provolone cheese in a warm and tender yet crisp sub sandwich bread wrapped in paper and cut in half. Upon arrival, we were a bit underwhelmed at its size, expecting something larger but soon we realized it was more than enough to satisfy her growling tummy. Every bite of this sandwich was flavorful and in the end, filling ! Seasoned fries and a cup of ranch dipping sauce filled out the rest of the plate for her too. Our server apologized for the meals taking a few minutes extra because she requested new fries be made for us as the other ones were "over done" by her estimation. We were happy to wait for the fresher fries ! It was another positive experience with warm subdued lighting, comfortable tables and chairs and Australian photos, signs and memorabilia covering every wall. Outback remains in the handful of goto places here in Missoula Montana where you don't have to worry about what's good. Why you ask ? Well, its because everything is good ! There are lots of good things to say about Outback Steakhouse. I enjoyed the rack of lamb and the ahi tuna that I ordered was amazingly good. The speed and quality of service was good. My dining companions also enjoyed their steak and lobsters as well.While on the pricey side the quality does match the price given. However, the decor is rather bland and besides a few generic Australian decorations and words on the menu, it wasn't really an authentic Australian experiance.
