This place is disgusting. I ordered the lunch special sirloin steak medium rare, and it was too spicy and peppery for me. The server offered to get me a new steak, but I declined as 30 minutes had already passed since I ordered. My mouth is still burning as I write this review. The server said the sirloin contains seventeen different spices, but all I tasted was one. It was too peppery. My husband didn't want it, so I'm throwing it away. I splurged on a very nice piece of beef without a starter, enjoyed two drinks from the bar for under $38 after tax/before tip. The leftovers will easily provide a second meal, not a snack by any means. Started with the rum punch and their complimentary wheat loaf and butter. Ordered 12oz (that's the middle size) prime rib, medium rare, with mash and asparagus. After the plate arrived, I asked for a small (they offer 2 sizes in wine) merlot. The beef center was slightly cooler than I expected (not a deal breaker, I can happily do rare) but after a dunk in the hot jus it was exactly what I'd been craving. The texture and flavor was better than the beef options I tried here the last few times, and the price difference was equal to an average starter I didn't order and certainly didn't need with a serving this generous. The house salad is okay but I prefer more spinach/greens to iceberg and find their vegetables reliable and more pleasing. This for the San Marcos location. Went here for lunch, my wife got the Victoria filet, it was flat piece of dried up meat. Does not resemble the steak advertised on their drink coaster or menu. It looked like a small pork chop. I got the ribeye and was the worst tasting steak I've ever had, ate two bites and couldn't do more. The baked potatoes were tiny and the ranch dressing on the salad was like paste. Never again. The waiter was good though. Thankfully we had gift cards and didn't have to pay for it. We used to love Outback. We visited this one in San Marcos a few weeks ago. I ordered my usual Prime Rib - medium rare. My husband ordered the filet. I've noticed that last few times we've visited, the steaks have progressively gotten tougher and tougher. This last time was terrible. A filet is supposed to be a tender cut of meat. My husband couldn't eat it. It was so tough that the knife wouldn't cut through. He had also ordered a sweet potato for his side. It was very small. Not even "average" size. As far as my prime rib, I could only eat about a third of it. The rest was terrible. The thing is, their prices have gone up, which I get. Everything in this economy is higher priced. But you'd think the quality would be as good as ever. We feel like we're paying the same price as going to Long Horn Steak House, and the steaks are still really good there. I just wish Long Horn had a prime rib, but they don't. read more

My family of 6 has been going to Outback for years for our celebrations. Birthdays, graduations etc. Sadly, this is one of the few locations still in business, but it has degraded a lot over the last 2 years. First, it smells like dirty bar mats when you walk in. (Think dirty old shoe). We actually had to be moved away from the bar visit before last because it smelled so awful. I also wanted to use an offer they emailed me that said "ending soon". When I tried to redeem it, I was told "it expired yesterday". . On our last visit, we were celebrating my daughter's bday with family and friends. The waitress was nice and competent. I watched in horror as the hostess put clean silverware sets (rolled in napkins) on booth seats as she wiped down the tables (ONTO THE FLOOR). The booth seats are not sanitary. But wiping the tables off onto the floor probably explains the smell. Our seat and floor were SOAKED with something that had previously spilled (before we arrived) so we has to wipe down the seat where my son was. When we went to get napkins off the table behind us, we could see the spill extended under that table as well. His shoes were old so the huge puddle on the floor wasn't as big an issue. When our food arrived, it was cold. Not just "not hot", but actually cold. Do they not have heat lamps? I didn't want to make a big deal, but cold lobster is just meh. Apparently, everyone's food was cold, which I discovered after we left. If I'm spending $300 on a dinner out, I at least want my food to be warm. I think we will be taking our money and celebrations elsewhere from now on. Too many consecutive disappointments. They get 3 stars instead of 2 because I'm sentimental. So, I'm going to be honest it has been like 10 years since I've walked into an outback, mainly due to money issues. I asked in and we were sat by the best host ever named Colby. He was very sweet, prompt, and paid attention. We then were greeted by an awesome server named Kelly. Now we had the blooming onion of course and that rocked. Hubby had the chicken tenders, fries, and mac and cheese. White I had the 6oz center cut sirloin with mashed patotos and mac and cheese. Now he loves his food as did I. I just say that I love my steak medium well which is hard to cook, but I cut through that center and it was perfectly cooked and had the best taste. My family of 4 went to this restaurant to eat an early dinner. The hostess wanted to seat us at high top bar table. We didn't want to sit at the bar with two little kids and asked to be seated elsewhere. She told us there were no other tables available. I looked around the restaurant at only 4 other seated tables and questioned that conclusion. We were finally seated after she had a 5 minute discussion with the manager. Towards the end of our meal, I called the manager over to discuss the issue with him. He didn't quite get it. He saw no real issue in our treatment other than a "training error". This is a very busy restaurant located in a prime area, just inside the outlet mall where we all codm in to spend some quality time doing a bit of retail therapy . We came to have some down under fun and drinks. They as always have the characteristic restaurant space and a large restaurant and bar area with tv's broadcasting sports for the fans. They have some good prices on drinks and some nice menu options for their signature drinks. Still a little weak for a drink but none the less very nice drinks in compressing with the other chain restaurants out there. They have mil discounts and that is always pretty nice. We had a Malibu based drink and I would definetly recommend. Sorry I don't remember the name at this time. We jumped in the opportunity to get that lobster and we went ahead and did that. 2 lobster tails obviously rather small tails and some sides. We got the Mac and cheese of course and for the second side we had the house salad to feel like the figure isn't going to be damaged by the pasta hehehe The food was pretty good. Met a client for lunch. I was worried about getting a seat so I called ahead and had my table waiting. Asked for a larger table when I got there and they made sure we were seated promptly.
