Stopped by here for brunch in Labor Day and was told the wait would be about an hour for two. No problem, we just walked around a bit and got coffee nearby before heading back. We ended up being seated probably 40 mins after I put my name down since a number of people left. The format of the store is a bit different. Once it's your turn, you order and pay at the front before you are led to your table. We got 2 breakfast sandwiches, and once seated it probably took at least 20-30 minutes before the food was served. Thankfully we weren't too hungry, so this was fine. Just be mindful that if you are in a tight on time, the wait for a seat is only part of it. They do seem to be understaffed so this is understandable. The sandwiches were pretty good, and the hot sauce they gave us with it had a really nice kick. The egg and bacon were all cooked perfectly, with the egg having a perfectly soft and runny yolk. Their brunch options do seem to be a bit limited, so I'd definitely recommend checking the menu before going to make sure what they have is what you want. Initially, I was taken aback when I was told to order the food and pay for it including the mandatory 20% tip all before I even entered the restaurant. I'm not gonna lie, it left bad taste in my mouth. Then I was allowed to enter the restaurant and led to one of their tiny tables. The tiny tables were the first thing I noticed because it's impossible not to. They're super tiny! The second thing I noticed was their cozy interior - all wooden. I can't differenciate wood types, but I can say that whatever the wood was used looked great and felt super nice. It made the whole place feel light and relaxing. We ordered breakfast sandwich and iced Americano for Nikki; and summer toast with trout along with Meadow tea and honey for me, and a side of smashed potatoes to share. Our bill was $79. When the food arrived, servers really struggled finding place to put the plates down. It took all of us a good few minutes to basically put plates on top of each other in order to fit them on the table, there was no room for a water drop left to fall. When I said that tables are tiny, I certainly wasn't kidding. After all the commotion, we finally dug in. I have to say, I was upset about lots of things such as tables, forced 20% tip before the service was even provided, and the cost in general. But then I tried my summer toast with trout. And all of a sudden, all became irrelevant. It was so good! It was also very healthy! I felt like I was eating health on a plate, I felt soooo good. And it was delicious! In the last year I really changed my eating habits but to this very day I don't like when the food is "too healthy", it's often blend and lacks variety. This was not the case. I killed that toast with no mercy! That trout was a perfect compliment! I don't think I'd like the toast as much by itself without the trout, but together they were a match made in heaven. And I was happy to collect :D Tea was also delicious and flavorful. I was leaving the restaurant floating on a cloud. I was just present in the moment, completely immersed in my experience. I often eat on auto pilot, barely even noticing what I'm eating and what the food taste like. It was nice to break from that and be present and aware. Cute spot. Lovely atmosphere but food wasn't extraordinary. The only thing on the breakfast menu that sounded good was the breakfast sandwich. I added avocado to mine but found it too "mushy." I think it would be way better served on a crispy sourdough. We are in SF after all! The big bun with all the egg, cheese and avo was too mushy for Me, next time I'd add the bacon instead. Everything else on the menu was a little too "out there" for us to order, like soup or super healthy bowls on the breakfast menu. Well worth a trip out to the Sunset for brunch. The eggs-in-jail - amazing. Almost like a savory garlicky french toast. Bf got the tostada ranchero which he enjoyed until he tried mine and got eggs-in-jail envy. Had a spritz cocktail which was also delicious. Wait for 2 for Saturday brunch around 1:30pm was 25 minutes but there's a cute bookstore and a coffee shop nearby if you need to bide your time. There was a 20 minute wait on a Sunday at 10 which was fine. The vibe was very cute inside, giving nautical drift wood vibes. However the Dutch pancake was definitely underwhelming. It just tasted like a slightly airier pancake and had a pretty strong eggy taste which is not my preference. They also pre pour the syrup inside which is unique and maybe not everyone's preference if you want to control the amount of syrup used. The breakfast sandwich was very basic as it's just eggs and arugula but given how simple the ingredients were it made sense. The potato roll used for the sandwhich was very buttery and nicely toasted so that was nice. Overall the food is overrated in my opinion but it's a nice spot if you want to enjoy the vibe. Food overall is tasty-- still love their Dutch pancake now many years later from the first time I visited! The lower rating is more for some of the odd policies that make it feel less like a relaxing brunch and more like they are trying to get you out asap (to be fair, there was a line forming as we were eating). First, you have to order before you get a table (not sure if you're allowed to order anything once you have your table). Second, which I find much more egregious is paying for a "house coffee" which is almost as expensive as a cappuccino, and getting only one cup, with NO REFILLS (I asked and was told that is not possible) ... never been to a brunch place that had no coffee refills before. Expect to have door staff forget your place in line, not even call your party name, and proceed to let newer people in just because they heckle at them. Went for a beautiful day at Ocean Beach and stopped at Outlanders for brunch. There was quite a line and we appreciated being able to place our order at the door before we were seated. My friend and I decided to check out a neighborhood brunch spot and came to Outerlands. We got here at opening (9AM) on Friday, and were seated at a lovely spot next to the window. The interior is super cute with a rustic feel. We split the outerlands breakfast sandwich, which came with a sunny side up egg, sausage, patty, honey mustard, aioli, pickled onions, and sesame. It was overall pretty good..nothing spectacular but still yummy. We added some avocados which hit the spot. The one thing I didn't like about the sandwich was I thought the bread was a bit too hard. We also split the malted buttermilk waffle, which was topped with apples, walnuts, maple syrup, and brown sugar chantilly. Was again, good but nothing memorable. We got to-go on a sunny Monday afternoon as they were about to close. After ordering, we checked out the nearby shops as we waited for a text message letting us know that our open-faced Chicken Salad Sandwich and Danish Pancake were ready to be picked up. The Chicken Salad Sandwich is one of the more balanced sandwiches I've had: the richness of a cream/mayo-based chicken salad pairs and contrasts well with the pickled carrot shavings and the crispness of the fresh sliced apples. The extra greens and the fact that it really is an open-faced sandwich doesn't make it the neatest thing to eat -- maybe it's designed to be a conversation starter or something that would make your fellow brunch mates chuckle at you as should try to balance the leafy greens that's going down on some nicely toasted (and not to sour) sourdough. Only reason for a deduction is that it really is awkward to eat but very tasty, fresh, light and very filling at the same time. As for the Danish Pancake, we opted not to add the house ricotta cheese and can describe it as a savory-sweet type of entree. It's akin to a Yorkshire pudding with some sweetened warmed apple filling, candied walnuts and a dusting of powered sugar. I've always wanted to try Outerlands since I always hear about it so I wanted to see what the hype was about. Outerlands has a cute atmosphere and is perfect for an IG or snapchat post of your food. However, just because something looks good, doesn't mean it's good. I ordered smoked salmon crostini and when it comes out, I notice that it looks really good. Then... I take my first bite, and I notice the salmon had a taste but I couldn't tell what it was. The weird taste was faint and I was hungry so I finished my dish anyways. After 1 hour after eating, I felt hungry again. I feel like there's tastier brunch places with bigger portions for the same price. Their prices doesn't justify the quality and quantity. Disappointing. I've eaten at Outerlands multiple times before but tonight's meal was well under par. Though the server was helpful and attentive, the trout was dry and overcooked. The accompanying vegetables, turnip with its greens, were almost tasteless. The turnip itself was soggy, unidentifiable chunks of root. The greens had slightly more flavor. The salad's flavors - radish, pear - were neither sharp nor sweet and the dressing didn't add anything. Not worth the price. Have been wanting to try this place for awhile and wish I had read the recent reviews before making the drive over. Dutch pancake was terrible. As per the photo, the first Dutch pancake I was served was completely burnt and hard on the outside. I would've probably attempted to eat it but it was inedible when I tried to crack off a piece - it also strongly smelled burnt. It looked and smelled like my cooking when I forget about it in the oven. I am surprised I was served this item given its appearance and smell. I asked the server if the item was supposed to look like that and they said they could understand if I didn't want that texture and would bring a new one. The new one wasn't burnt but it also was not good. I like dry foods and well-done meats and baked goods (I am a end-crust, edge brownie, well-done burger type of person), but this was dry with no flavor and terrible. The texture was crunchy and cold. I didn't even eat half of it even though it was $20 including the additional charges. The Dutch pancake situation made a lot more sense when I went to the bathroom and saw all of the pre-made Dutch pancakes sitting out on a tray (see pictures attached). I thought Dutch pancakes were the type of item you needed to make to order due to the texture. It looks like they make them in advance and then reheat them which is why my first one had such a crispy/burnt overall texture and why the second one came so quickly and also did not taste good. If this is a pre-made and reheated item I feel like it shouldn't be included in the regular menu items and should be under "baked goods" - then my expectation would be that it was made in advance and subsequently I wouldn't order it. I asked a staff person if the Dutch pancakes were made in advance and they said "no, however they are made 4 at a time." There were more than 4 Dutch pancakes on that tray and it was 1:30pm and not busy, so the veracity of that statement does not seem to match what was observed. read more

Swung by Outland for breakfast before heading to Lands End. It's located in a mostly residential neighborhood and has a locals only vibe. Parking was easy on the street. It was busier than expected for a Sunday morning. They have a unique ordering system where you "counter order" outside on the street and then they show you to your table. We got the avocado toast and egg sandwich, as well as coffee and cappuccino. Water and drinks were out promptly and we enjoyed them in the driftwood / nauticalnthermed restaurant. It felt kind of like you were in the hull of a ship (in a good way). Food was out next and was absolutely delicious. Egg sandwich was one the the best I've had. This place has always been in my "to go" list because I heard about it and how there's always a line. I went there at lunch time on a weekday and the wait was 10 minutes. Unfortunately, we were seated at the shared table right by the door, so that each time the door opened, I got a gust of cold air. The menu is not extensive. I ordered the Grilled Cheese Sandwich and the Cubano Sandwich. Both sandwiches were made with thick cut rustic bread. Both sandwiches were grilled which made the bread was hard. I usually like it toasted but I think the type of bread resulted in a hard crust. The cheese combination was just ok, nothing to write home about. The Cubano was tastier with the ham. As much as the neighborhood loves this place, I would not return. I don't like eating at places with sticky wooden tables. read more

The restaurant serves ridiculously small size portions, at least, during dinners. I'have ordered Trout as a main course and tempura veggies as an appetizer. The "fish" dish had barely any fish, a few tiny pieces of parsnip and two leaves of bok choy. One star for the sauce, it was delicious. I left the restaurant hungry. And I know what small portions should look like - I worked in a French restaurant for a few years. Please put more food on a plate because your customers leaving your place starving. read more

Well, I wouldn't go so far as to describe the Outer Sunset as cool, but Outerlands definitely helps make this neighborhood a diamond in the rough. 45th and Judah is one of the few areas that will make your trek to the tail end of the Avenues worthwhile if you don't already live out there. Because there are few brunch alternatives nearby, expect this place to be perpetually packed. There will almost always be a wait, even on weekday mornings. Only come here if you can wake up early enough to beat the crowd because it isn't worth the wait otherwise. I find myself coming back here because I'm a sucker for the open-faced vegetable sandwiches. Prices are honestly a bit too high for the amount of food you get, but if your social media presence is important to you, any photos you'll take will look good on Instagram, so imagine that your bill includes a hidden Instagram tax. read more

I think Outerlands is known for their Boulé, the bread was soft in the middle and had a nice crunch layer for the crust. Cheese was a mixture of gruyere and something else, sprinkle of Maldon on top. The tomato soup was fine. Nothing spectacularly special or anything. The two came out to be $21, which is what really got me! Sandwich for $12, soup for $9?! 2. Special of the day - tostada with retried beans, avo, I want to say braised oxtail?, poached egg. This was probably my favorite! The portion was just small, bc it was one tostada chillin in a big take out box! 3. Breakkie sandwich: again, decent but nothing really special! I am glad I finally gave them a go. ARRIVE EARLY! My friends and I wanted to eat brunch here, so we came around 8:40 am and were third on the list. By the time 9 am rolled around, there were a lot more names on the list. While waiting, they have a menu posted outside, so I already knew what I wanted when we sat down. I decided on the dutch pancake. We all ordered different things so we could try each other's dishes. To my surprise, the pancake was tall. I didn't really know what a Dutch pancake was before I ordered it. I just assumed it was the regular flat type of pancakes. When I first cut into it, it was a little hard to cut, but that does not take away from the taste. It was so fluffy and delicious. The syrup was sweet and the apples were a little tangy sweet. Perfect combination. The portion is a little light, but that might just be my stomach. It can be a good sized breakfast. I would definitely come back to try some other items. It seems the menu changes, so I wouldn't rely on Yelp for menus. read more

When I arrived, despite plenty of seating they insisted we sit at the high bar. Then when they handed us the menu they told us that we would need to go back outside and order our food with the front desk. There were 4-5 front side staff. They have heated outdoor seating so you can bring along your four legged friend. Breakfast was pretty good. Several unique items that were tasty and filling. Eggs in jail were a must since that's one of the signature items. Dutch pancakes were different from other regular pancakes since they were crispy all around. Potatoes and sticky bun were pretty standard. Sunset menu is worth checking out for drink specials. read more
