Even though I'm only giving it 3 stars, it's a nice restaurant and I'd definitely go back. The prices are expensive (everything in West Yellowstone, a tourist town, is expensive). The food is very consistent... but also pretty average for restaurant-quality food. However, it has that comforting feeling to it. Food-wise, anyone who has grown up or lived in the Midwest for some time will be reminded of their time there. The salad bar. Hot dinner plates. The sides. Sometimes it's just nice to get a dose of it again. So if that is what you want, then this is the place to go. The ribeye steak is maybe a little bit of a standout item (well executed, or at least it exceeded my expectations). The country fried steak is maybe a bit below average. Love this BBQ place feels very southern and tastes even better ! is a unicorn on the road for those who love smoked meat! All house made bbq sauces were amazing. Even the Carolina one was spot on! Got the brisket about made myself sick trying to eat it all it was soooooo delicious perfect amount of fat and crust !! Only complaint was no potato salad . This isn't a bad place, but it isn't a great place. Just a run of the mill American restaurant with a giant menu. The food was decent, service was ok, but for the price, not a great value. We enjoyed our meal in a corner booth, this allowed our family to entertain each other by bouncing the person that shares a cushion as we sat down. The open faced Turkey sandwich was tasty, but the gravy was just a bit strange. This restaurant is a solid 3+ star place. The ambience is classic Montana. The staff is outstanding. They were attentive and polite. The food came out very quickly. The food however is just average. I ordered a steak sandwich. The steak was good and very flavorful. But is was over cooked. I ordered it Medium Rare and it was served well done. My wife ordered a French Dip that was good, but not outstanding. We had the Wild Huckleberry Sundae for desert. It was fantastic! The over prices were a bit high for the quality of food but they were typical for the tourist town that West Yellowstone is. read more

We have walked past this place countless times as kids, and finally decided to stop in a few years ago as adults. We have made it a new family tradition to stop in on our annual girls trip. We absolutely love it. We haven't ever had any issues. The club sandwich, the French dip, chili outpost burger, and regular outpost burger have been repeats for us and always delicious. If you're close buy give them a try. Diana the GM is always so sweet and welcoming making sure we don't have any issues and would fix anything to help make sure we left here happy. read more

I would not not recommend this restaurant to my worst enemy. After a long day in the park, our family of 4 decided to stop in for a nice dinner. We were sat immediately, but it took wait staff about 15 minutes to come to our table to take our drink order (maybe 3 total tables had patrons at it). I can understand things get caught up in the day to day job so I can excuse this. But unfortunately the service was just a precursor. Our meals: One got a cheeseburger, one the beef stew with mashed potatoes on the side, one the daily special, and I got the spaghetti and meat sauce. The cheeseburger was supposed to have mustard and ketchup on it. It came plain. The beef stew was "okay at best" and the side of mashed potatoes came with beef gravy on top that was "nasty" enough to not finish the $4 side of mashed potatoes. The daily special overall was good, plenty of food and good taste to the breaded and fried steak. My spaghetti and meat sauce was almost inedible. It has to be the worst thing I have eaten at a restaurant. For $15+ for a plate of spaghetti, it should at least taste decent. I ate maybe 4 bites of it and then pushed it aside and didn't eat another bite. The only redeeming thing was the salad bar that came with the spaghetti. The only thing I actually finished and that's likely because I fixed it myself. I'd rather not eat at all than come back to this restaurant. Avoid at all costs !!!!! read more

I was trying to order to go food because I saw the "To Go Menu" from the front desk. The server looked at me and said we don't serve to go food then he invited the group behind me directly! The restaurant inside really had a rustic look with lots of pics and interesting wall hangings. The menu looked appetizing but somebody told me they sold huckleberry syrup and it was really good so that's what I did was buy a bottle of $10 huckleberry syrup. After s long day visiting Yellowstone it was dinner time. All the small diners in the part call it a day at 6pm. We headed to west Yellowstone and stumbled on this quaint unique dinner on the Main Street of west Yellowstone. The staff was friendly. Took care of all our need. All average. What wasn't "average" was the.... are you sitting down?!? $1.50 for Ranch! Want BBQ, Mayo, or another condiment...? $1.50. Highway robbery! All average, nothing special. Up front, they sell Montana made huckleberry jam, honey, syrups and more, which I picked one up for my honey who loves huckleberry jam. We were pleasantly surprised to find this restaurant allowed dine-in, but I was a bit disappointed that they were seating customers right next to one another in spite of social distancing recommendations. The menu offers comfort food: chicken fried steak, liver and onions, ribeye, chicken parm, etc. Seems like full menu was available. Our server looked like he was still in high school... and not exactly in love with his job. Our first impression was that we were passed over for a table even though we were first in line to be seated. Thankfully the other party noticed and was so kind as to insist we were seated before them. Upon being seated, we were provided a carafe of ice water and 3 empty glasses along with menus. Our young server came over and despondently asked if we were ready to order. We said we needed a few minutes and requested some sodas. My daughter noted that kids meals do not include refills (not a problem for us but I think it's good to know). I ordered the chicken fried steak which says it comes with either roasted baby reds or mashed potatoes - I ordered it with mashed. My husband got the liver and onions with french fries, and my daughter (she's 7) got the spaghetti plate. Tables were seated on either side of us, both arriving after us. One of the tables ordered after us and got their food before us. No follow ups from the server about our food taking longer - I think we waited about 30 minutes for our food. Portions were huge, ample, and the food looked great. Typical comfort food well done. My dish had a lot of gravy and the steak was large. The veg was a steamed carrot that didn't look particularly appetizing, but my husband ate his. His liver and onions looked good with a huge pile of french fries. My daughter's spaghetti looked good with a piece of garlic Texas toast on the side. Everyone enjoyed their dish. Mine and my husband's were supposed to come with a dinner roll but didn't. When my husband asked our server if our dishes were supposed to come with a roll, he said "they can..." and he returned with 2 rolls on a plate. Overall, it was "as expected" and the food was good, it was a good value and the service time was not abnormally long. I'm not sure the young boy who waited on us was really ready for customer interaction, but hopefully he will get better over time. While in West we was looking for dinner one Friday night in July and stumbled upon this place. It has a very homey feel with all their western old times decor it's very inviting. The place was fairly busy so we thought hopefully we would get seated pretty quickly which we was very friendly staff. Our server filled our water bottle twice before we even ordered. And you know me I like my water and theirs is excellent. The lil woman had the Chicken Pam she said it was good but not as good as our daughter Lindsay's but that's a tall order because she is an excellent cook. I had the chicken fried beef steak w/ mashed taters. Honestly some of the best I've ever had. Their gravy was too die for. Also their salad bar was very fresh and had a great selection. Should have read the reviews before ordering. Pretty bad food. The turkey on bread with gravy was OK, however the instant mashed potatoes had too much liquid added and were runny (they were saved slightly by the congealed gravy. Plus they had to be sent back to be reheated because they were barely warm. Same scenario applies to the roast beef and potatoes my husband had, except his potatoes were actually cold. We departed Yellowstone National Park just after sunset and arrived in West Yellowstone hungry for dinner... but it took a few minutes to check in. Several restaurants had just closed. The Yelp-inapired BBQ joint we went to was pretty much sold out so we ended up here...without checking Yelp. Oops. Everything about this place is meh. The food lacks seasoning, flavor and flair. The fries weren't salted and were cooked in old grease. The bison was barely seasoned and the pasta had a half-cup of water on the plate. Chicken parm was bland. The salad bar was uninspired piles of blah. The best thing about the service is they leave a pitcher of water at the table, but do so without saying a word. They didn't even ask how our food was - likely because they know the answer. With the volume of international tourists at Yellowstone...this place does a disservice to American restaurants. They got 1 star instead of two because the prices, while on par for this "resort" town, are way too high for glorified hospital cafeteria food. read more

If I could give ZERO stars I would. After spending all day in Yellowstone, my family and I (total of 4 adults and a child) decided to give this place a try after every other restaurant had a long wait. We walked in and the "host" was leaned against the counter facing away from the door, this should have been a sign. We get seated and finally the waitress shows up and takes our drink order, but doesn't even introduce herself. Ok fine, no big deal. She brings our drinks and then starts taking our orders. My mother in law and I both ordered the Turkey dinner, which comes with choice of potatoes, roasted carrots, dinner roll and one trip to the salad bar. My husband ordered the Hot Beef Plate, which is roast beef, plus hot rolls, my father in law ordered fish and chips and niece ordered the kid's chicken tenders. Our food is brought out and immediately does not look appetizing and to top it off, my husband is brought out the wrong thing. Again, no big deal, we assume it tastes better than it looks. My husband tells the waitress his order is wrong and not even two minutes later, his roast beef is brought out. Just by looking at it and smelling it, we could tell it was not good, it looked like it was microwaved beef and the "hot" rolls were cold and hard and it in fact tasted TERRIBLE. He tells the waitress and she looks displeased at the fact, but offers to bring him something else. When he said it ruined his appetite and would rather not get anything else, she agrees to remove it from our bill. I finally taste my meal and it tastes bland, carrots are mushy, the turkey tastes dry and it's topped with some gelatinous "gravy", and my roll is missing. My mother in law agrees the meal is dreadful and we both left our plates untouched except for the few bites we tasted. The waitress brings our tickets, notices our untouched plates, says nothing and takes off. When she comes back I tell her my food was not good and explain what is wrong, but that I'd be happy to pay for my trip to the salad bar. She seemed visibly bothered at the fact I brought it up, but replies she'll get the manager. After some time she comes back, no manager in sight, and just sets the ticket on the table with a portion of my plate discounted. My father in law mentions that my mother in law's plate was also untouched for the same reason, before he has any chance to say anything else, the waitress rolls her eyes, raises her voice and says she already had voided my husband's meal and adjusted my meal and that she was not going to comp the entire ticket. Mind you we had said nothing about 2 out of the 5 meals and offered to pay for what we had eaten. At this point we just ask for the manager. She storms off and we can hear her loudly telling the manager we want all the meals comped. She comes back, slams the ticket in front of my father in law and states "this is the FINAL ticket" and storms off. We just all looked at each other baffled at the fact the manager never once came up to our table after the multiple mishaps and at the waitress' appalling behavior. We have never been treated and spoken to the way she did. Especially when we were respectful each time. Bland and dry food coupled with atrocious customer service. We will NEVER eat at this location and will NEVER recommend it to any family or friends that visit. read more

Went here for breakfast. Very small and simple menu. Food was average, I'd say a little worse than black bear diner. The waitress was nice and food didn't take that long to get. (Probably because besides us there were only two other tables at 10am.) It is yes on the more expensive side for a breakfast but thats not unexpected in a tourist town. We walked in at 9:30 pm and they happily sat us. Wait staff was very friendly. Hubs and son had bison burgers. Said they were delicious. I had the roast beef plate. I wasn't expecting it to be very good but I was wrong! There was tons of tender roast beef piled onto a piece of white bread and mashed potatoes on the side all covered in rich brown gravy. I highly recommend it. We are and were out by ten. Highly recommend if you are in west Yellowstone. read more

After being stuck in traffic for two hours (courtesy of a stubborn bison!), our family, was hungry, tired, and ready to get out of the car!
