Location is great. Food is good and reasonably priced. Wait service is okay, but spotty. But hosts and hostesses leave a lot to be desired. Unfriendly, they seem to go out of their way to find the worst place to seat you, even when there are a lot of open tables (when you arrive and when you leave). When you speak with them, they argue with you. You have to tell them to move you, or they won't. There didn't seem to be any management onsite the six times we've been there this summer. We also live nearby and would like to make it a regular destination, but the experience is making it worthwhile to drive somewhere else. read more

The results: Calimari appitizer: tough rubber bands Crabcake appitizer: Two perfectly round cakes that had been stamped from a mold. Not the hand made, fresh tasting cakes I've had in Rhode Island. The only good thing going for this place is the location and the service. The food was horrible, and was insulting for its lack of quality and freshness! The owner should seriously look into finding a new chef/cook, unless they are more interested in being cheap and cutting corners. Went there for lunch with my husband and son. For appetizers we ordered the calamari, which we could tell was frozen and then thrown quickly in a fryer. My husband ordered the bacon wrapped scallop, which came with a side salad. The salad came out first and it was rancid, most likely prepared at least two days prior and then left in the refrigerator. Next came his bacon wrapped scallop which looked like it came out of the freezer aisle of the supermarket. And was quickly microwaved and dabbed with some bottled BBQ sauce. My son had the fried shrimp platter, which we could tell was also frozen and then quickly fried. BTW the shrimp and calamari were undercooked and had no flavor. I ordered the lobster roll, which tasted old and dry. Which leads me to think that it was precooked and then warmed. The only thing that tasted decent were the fries, which anyone could make. As a fellow New Yorkers, we have a multitude of dining experience, ranging in price and location. And we have never had such poor quality in food. I went to a memorial luncheon in the upstairs event room at Outrigger's yesterday. The family chose the Hors D'oeuvres package with pasta add on. I was very impressed with the quality and selection. Tons of delicious seafood (clams casino, oysters rockefeller, shrimp cocktail, calamari, crab cakes, bacon wrapped scallops) and many, many non seafood selections as well. The food came out at the perfect temperature and well presented. The service was great. Another huge bonus is the view, especially from the upstairs event room. It was so calming and delightful to enjoy such a beautiful environment (both inside and out) while celebrating our dear friend. read more

My dad wanted to take us out for lunch here on a Sunday. It was cloudy, a bit chilly to sit outside. He loves the fried oysters and says they're the best around. The restaurant was quiet, we were only ones there bt 1:00-3:30pm. There is no "lunch menu". We ordered clams casino which were tasty but very small shrunken littlenecks. I think we got 6 in the order. Disappointed in the Bloody Mary. Idk tasted like i was slurping cocktail sauce. Ordered clam strips w french fries for $16. All other items that looked appetizing were in the upper $20 range and this was lunch. Didnt like my meal. Just tasted grease. No clam flavoring and fries were the kind kids get from kiddy menu. Gimme some handcut fries and some real clams not crispy flour-battered pieces. Needs some effort here. We walked outside and view is beautiful but that deck is very weathered. Went there with a group of 18 last weekend. Had a great time on the patio, good service, good (not great) food. My tuna, that I had requested "super rare, almost raw" was cooked through. My cousin had gritty clams. The main reason I'm writing this review, though, is the treatment we got at the end of our meal. While we were finishing our desserts, coffee, and drinks, someone came over and told us we had to leave. We had been there for 3 1/2 hrs and they needed the tables for other reservations. That's fine, I understand that, but the way it was handled was appalling. You don't kick out a group that just spent a thousand dollars in your restaurant. They could have given us advance notice that there was a time limit. They could have taken aside the person who organized the event and said we would need to relocate to the bar at a certain time. Nope. They came over an announced (while some of us still had drinks in front of us) that we had to leave. No option to go to the bar or anything. After dinner drinks that could have brought them quite a bit more business (not to mention any future business) went to another restaurant in town that was much more welcoming. read more

Came here Friday the 14th at around 8pm for dinner with a 4 top of friends. First bad tip off was being eaten to death by mosquitos, multiple cans of bug spray on the deck getting handed out to guests like party favors. The service was completely absent. After about 20 minutes our drink orders were taken (understandable for a Friday evening service). But after our first drink order, I had to go out of my way to flag down a server and order two beers as I knew I wouldn't be asked again about drinks. Even when those beers came to the table, our server did not ask ANY of the other people at my table if they needed anything. Was just in a rush to get away. And not even to other tables; every time I looked to the inside dining room, the FOH staff was congregating and judging outside tables by the looks of it. What happened to servers upselling for better numbers? Or even making sure their guests were happy? These ideals were completely out the window tonight. The food was good, I have no complaints about the actual product, nor did anyone at my table. Hats off to the chef for running a much better composed BOH than whoever was managing the floor. Albeit, the cleaning of tables surrounding us, the complete cancellation of music and the eerie/nonstop creaking of the door leading to the patio was the final nail in the coffin for me. The "please get the fuck out" vibe by 9:30pm on a Friday was palpable and heavily unappreciated, completely ruining our dessert and desire to ever return again. We were also given the wrong bill at one point from a server we hadn't even interacted with yet. FOH needs to tighten up in a bad way. Plenty of servers were on while I was there, no excuse except laziness and carelessness for the very guests that are paying their wages as a courtesy. read more

The one star is for the wait staff, which was very attentive, and for the view. AC is kept extremely low....SIT OUTSIDE! I have been about 4-5 times. Food has always been mediocre at best. But last evening, the soft shell crabs were oversized, heavily battered, greasy and tough. The coleslaw was served in a medicine cup size container and French Fries were soft and soggy. Very bad experience! I had called in advance and requested a table on the perimeter of the deck overlooking the water. The hostess said come between 1 and 1:30. We arrived at 1:15 and I told her I was the person who called with the seating request. She said just wait a few minutes and again I told her we would be happy to wait in the lounge until a table opened. She proceeded to sit us at a table in the middle of the deck. We waited for 15 minutes for the waitress to even acknowledge us, we told her the request we made and she could care less also. 2-3 of the desirable tables opened up during the next few minutes. After 25 minutes the waitress brought us our drinks and asked what we would like. I told her we would have liked to sit where we requested and just bring the check. The employees need help, obviously they could care less about the customers. We ended up going to Joey C's Boathouse and had an outstanding experience. Joey C's is 5 minutes away and you are guaranteed a good time with good food and service! read more

If I could put zero stars I would. I really hate writing anything bad about a place, but in this case I'll make an exception. Ok, I have one good thing to say...the location is lovely with the deck overlooking the river. That's about the only good thing I can say. Some friends and I came here to listen to our friend who was the entertainment for the evening. I had made a reservation and we were seated right by the mic. Everything was fine - some friends joined us, others left. We all had food and drinks. And then we were suddenly told that there was a two hour limit on all tables and we had to move. First of all, I've never heard of such a thing. Secondly, we still had food and drinks on our table and some of us were about to order more food. Not ONCE when I made my reservation nor when we were seated or served, was I ever informed that there was a time limit. We were also told that our reservation was only for four people and we now had 6 which was apparently breaking some rule or something. What restaurant complains about MORE business? We all thought it was ridiculous to move not only given our active dining status but because we were specifically there to see our friend perform. Two servers and then another gentleman spoke with us in all. The third man claimed to be expressing the manager's request that we move. The manager himself never came to talk to us. We stood our ground and they eventually gave in. After this incident, the service was abysmal. They basically just tossed our food on the table and any requests were met with grunts. In addiction to all of that, the food is overpriced for what it is. I had a salad which was just simple field greens and nothing special for $8. Not one member of our party will ever be back here and you can believe we're telling our friends about this experience. Restaurant managers should understand that it's not all about the food - it's about how you treat your customers. Whether you treat people good or bad, there is a ripple effect. read more

We went here during the summer and sat out on the patio. I do not recommend wasting your time here, unless you are planning on having a drink on their patio overlooking the water. The view is amazing, but that is all this place has to offer. I don't often write bad reviews, but this place was so terrible I feel I have to warn others. The service was awful. We had to flag down someone for water several times, before we actually got any, and it was a REALLY hot day. The young man who finally gave us water wasn't even busy, he just stood on the porch with water in hand in between cigarette breaks. Even our waitress complained about his lack of help (although I don't know why she couldn't get us water). We waited 45 minutes for food, that ended up being cold, and rubbery, AND she messed up both of our orders. Then it took forever for us to get the waitress to get the check, we asked her politely several times, and the first few times, she held a finger up to us. The last time she didn't even acknowledge our request, just complained about where the water guy was again. Several other tables around us were also complaining and looking very unhappy. We finally got the check and hightailed it out of there. As we were leaving we saw several employees gathered around the hostess station just chatting. Would have been nice if they had helped the single waitress on the patio that was clearly losing her mind. This place really needs better management. read more

We made a dinner reservation for outside however the weather was forecasting possible storms for that night. When we made the reservation we asked if it looked like it was going to rain or did rain could we move our reservation indoors. We were told yes however when we got there and requested to do that we were told no that the hostess could not control the weather so even though there were a lot of empty tables we were refused the option of changing. Of course it rained we got soaked and staff brought out paper towels to those of us who got wet, laughing. We were excited to come to Outriggers for the first time. And left very disappointed. The staff was terrible. Our waiter I hope was new. I hope that is the excuse. Strike 1. Every table was brought bread baskets while waiting for food. We had to ask for ours where we were given 4 rolls, for a party of 5 people. Strike 2. We had to flag him down to put our order in. We ordered apps first, which he brought out in hot plates handed them to us without the warning of them being hot. Strike 3. Two people asked to substitute items on their plate, when food was brought out the items were not substituted Strike 4. We had to flag him down to order our meals after the apps came out and another round of drinks Strike 5. He not ONCE came over to ask how things were or if we needed anything Strike 6. The food, with the exception of the mussels, was very bland and lacking flavor/seasoning. To top it off we were attacked by gnats the entire time. I would not go back to this restaurant. This place is a DISASTER and has been for sometime. Went there on a Sunday afternoon in April and requested a 4:30 pm seating for 4 people inside. When I arrived, we were quickly shuttled outside on a very cold and windy day because they were having an indoor bridal shower party. So I am sitting outside with no jacket on and three ladies who were freezing. It took the waiter 15 minutes to even ask us if we wanted a drink, and then another 40 minutes (I am not exaggerating) to get the first drinks to our table. Knowing how long the drinks took, I wanted to order the food right away but when the waiter dropped the drinks off he ran off and we were left stranded and cold due to the weather. As I looked around, for the nearly one hour I have been waiting to get a drink and just order food, I noticed that several tables that were still never cleaned up after people left, since we got there. I am sitting next to dirty tables and peoples left over food. Not an appetizing site. Finally we ordered; everyone order a meal and an appetizer and when it finally came, only three of them arrived, leaving my girlfriend without any food while we all had to eat ours before it got cold. When her onion soup finally arrived it we were done eating. (By the way, no napkins or utensils were on the table so we sat while our food got cold waiting for them to arrive). At this point the sun had totally moved out of site from our table and it got really cold. I then went inside and asked to be seated indoors as I originally asked for when I made the reservation. My request was granted and instead of the waiters carrying over our plates, drinks, etc. we all had to cart them inside. The food finally came, yes, it was good, not great, but good. The standard "side-vegetable" of sliced carrots and celery in butter they have been serving for a long time is getting really old and tiring. We ordered more drinks, but the bar tender was so slow that we ended up watching our waiter step behind the bar and make the drinks himself -which were not that good. During the summer time, the bugs coming off the Housatonic River marsh can get really bad. The bill with tip for four people was $230.00 -over priced for the quality of the food and certainly the horrible service. I don't blame the waiter -he was hustling to do his best, which was pretty bad; nonetheless, poor management is evident as this is the second time this sort of thing has happened at Outriggers. It's also not classy when several cooks are looking out the back door gawking at my 23 and 20 year old daughters as we walked back to the parking lot. Terrible disappointment. Seafood stuffing in haddock was so mushy it was practically water and was utterly flavor-less. Friend's pasta dish also had tremendous pool on bottom of bowl and was rather inedible. Lettuce in the salad had visible dirt on it, which I swiped off myself in front of the server to show them. It was very windy outside for my elderly parents so they told us we had to go up to the second floor. My elderly father struggled up the stairs. They then sat us at a table in the rear of the room. Made reservations for my wife and I for the deck on a great summer night for 7 pm. We were seated at 6:55. Waiter never came asked two staff to get us a waiter. One finally came and said they would fill the one assigned to us as he was too busy. Ordered drinks after 15 minutes. Waited another 15 minutes for a total of 30 minutes without drinks and walked out. We have been there in the past at least half a dozen times the food and service was good. I went here for breakfast once. One guy came out putting the silverware on the tables. I thought it was very odd being they advertise they serve breakfast in the newspaper. Outriggers actually ruined a birthday dinner for us. Perhaps this restaurant used to be acceptable. It certainly isn t any longer. We made reservations for Saturday the 4th two days prior. We were sat in a Catering room on the 2nd Floor, alone. Steamers were rancid, we had to send one order back. My dinner was wretched, all the while we are upstairs with a floor standing AC blowing on us and in a room, no music, listening to people running up and down stairs, alone. Tuna Steak was subpar, my softshell crab was common, the scrod was less than good. The lettuce was wilted. I asked for help from the Hostesses and was told that we are upstairs because it s first come first serve. However, people in after us were apparently seated outside. It was our first time eating there and last time. Unacceptable. However, we did have a great waitress, fast, polite and excellent at her job. read more

I really don't know why this doesn't have better reviews. I Went there tonight for dinner, to try for myself, after seeing all the negative reviews. Dress was nice but not too fancy. The food was great, I had steak and my girlfriend had the stuffed shrimp (which I don't normally try, but decided to and it was great). The view and ambience was awesome. The staff were all very friendly and gave our table good attention. Our waiter was especially friendly and better than I normally experience at other restaurants. The menu is much more balanced than most of the competitor spots, with sea and land food. The food is a little pricey but I would definitely return again. No real complaints here. read more
