My sister and I were looking for a place to have a quick brunch before an appointment at Union Square. Thank goodness for this place!! Sadly, many spots have closed as a result of Covid, others open at Noon or don't have indoor seating (which sucks on a hot day.) I finally found a place that bothers to do latte art in the US! Ive tried a lot of matcha lattes in NY but a lot of them have the flavor of the milk covering the matcha itself, but the matcha latte here was with a balanced flavor. The salmon Benedict was also delicious, and the sourness of the salad dressing came very well with the smoked salmon surprisingly. The beet sauce was quite an innovation, and it not only looked colorful but tasted good. This place is cute with plenty of seating and a very cozy spot for the neighborhood. The salmon and scrambles or whatever they call it is absolutely to die for. What a cute and pleasant spot right outside of the busy union square area! The entrance of the place isn't too obvious so you have to look out for it, if you come on a nice day you can sit outside in the back and it's very quaint. Coffe shops with seating are always my favorite! Outdo is in a great location - right off of union square and manages to occupy dome large real estate! There is an indoor and open roof outdoor seating situation, which makes it easy for many to come in, sit, study and grab a bite! If you do sit here, you have to go through their app to order. The servers bring the food to you. (This isn't my personal favorite but I've been seeing this pop up more). You also pay right away- convenient if you are coming with a large group, Bc you can order individually and not worry about splitting. The menu is extensive with an assortment of baked goods, fun lattes, and breakfast! I think it's on the pricier side- with you paying about $6 for a cappuccino. Outro has a very nice covered back patio with overhead heaters, but the heater was not warm at all. Luckily, the cafe is tucked between tall buildings, so it wasn't as cold and windy. My favorite part about this place is their space. They have a nice outdoor area in the back and plenty of space to bring your laptop here and do some work. It's not that expensive and it's right near the strand, perfect to pick up a book and come here to sip on something and relax. The coffee has been good every time I've come, which is important! Adorable coffee shop with quite an expanded menu of food perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. There is also an outdoor patio at the back that allows for outdoor seating, so if you're there for more than just coffee be sure to try snag a table there! Their hearty waffles and Benedicts were delicious - the ricotta berry waffle was not overly sweet given the toppings it came with, and is perfect for sharing. We ordered the salmon eggs Benedict too, and it came beautifully plated with a beet sauce on top adding an extra pop of colour. Came across this restaurant on Yelp when I needed to find a brunch place before movie at the nearby Regal. It's only one block away from the theatre. Staff were friendly and had big smiles on their face. Guess they just liked working there. You will place an order at the counter and will get one of those pavers so they will buzz you when the food is ready. There are plenty of seatings in the front, middle and back of the restaurant. We opted for the outdoor seatings in the back since it's a nice day out. Morning Set: great presentation. The salad was refreshing, soup was tasty, scramble eggs was good and the beef sausage (thought they looked more like hot dogs) were good. Perfect portion for brunch. Two of the things that stand out to me about Outro are 1) the unique speciality drinks (like the Taro Outro) and 2) the relatively big seating space, great for getting work done or catching up with friends. I got the popular matcha rose latte, and I appreciated that it wasn't too sweet. I also was able to taste hints of the rose. However, my friend got the Taro Outro, and I liked that drink better. The taro foam is incredible and balances out the sharp taste of the cold brew. I also ordered the Greenwich Sandwich, which is pesto, avocado, and egg on brioche. Such a cute cafe located just south of Union Square - I went with two girlfriends for Sunday brunch and had such a lovely experience. You order at the register inside and they bring it out to your table. They have the CUTEST outdoor patio in the back of the cafe (socially distant table settings too). It is decorated with pretty lights & writing on the wall. It's a perfect brunch spot, or even a coffee date. Employees & patrons all wore masks (unless seated at their table). The food and drinks were also incredible and super affordable. I ordered the bacon avo egg toast and an iced lavender latte which came to about $20. The food & drink are also presented beautifully; definitely instagram worthy. I can't wait to come back and try more of the menu. We ordered in the front and got the lavender latte, blue lemonade, spicy chicken pasta, and bacon avocado toast. I think this is such a cute hidden gem for brunch/lunch (and probably even dinner--I just haven't been there in the evening). I love sitting in the lil courtyard in the back--it has plenty of seating and is so nice in that it's surrounded by tall buildings/muffles the sound from the street in front. *Warning* if you sit at the tables outside next to the tall plants (there's a metal cube fence thing that serves as the border between the tables and the plants), there are TONS of little green fuzzy caterpillars on the plants. A bit disconcerting when you're trying to eat but distracted by ten caterpillars on the plant next to you. You can of course sit at the tables on the other side of the courtyard and you'll be fine, or you can sit indoors. I've gotten their spaghetti (a little spicy) and bacon pesto pasta (super creamy). Both were good, and I'd definitely come back to try other dishes. read more

I LOVE this adorable cafe! It's got a ton of outdoor seating in their spacious backyard and it's so cute. Twinkly lights up above and colorful seating/tables. The food and drink is reasonably priced and very delicious! I had the mushroom ricotta toast and the lavender latte -- both amazing. Lavender latte was very subtle yet the lavender flavor definitely came through (it's not too sweet or syrupy, in fact I don't think they used any syrup or sweetener at all). My friend had the pancakes and she loved them. This was my first experience "dining out" during COVID and it was as if there was no pandemic! Super cute coffee shop/breakfast & lunch nook/study place/meet up place/work place (I really don't know how to define Outro) nestled away near Union Square. I see this being great for students that want fancy coffee drinks and aesthetically pleasing brunches. "Outro" literally means the conclusion of a music piece or program. They are also owned by the same people that do the fancy coffees, drinks, and treats at 'Sweet Moment' further downtown. Presentation on our coffees was an a plus. I had an iced red velvet coffee, which is something I've never seen or heard of before in my life. It came decorated with a beautiful flower (not edible) but the coffee was sweet and kind of nice. Maybe artificial but so is Starbucks and who the hell cares . . . this is the most beautiful coffee I've ever drank in my life. We also had some kind of strawberry and cream smoothie drink (not my cup of tea because it was just way too much milk). For our brunch we split the strawberries tiramisu waffles covered with mascarpone and whipped cream. The waffles (not something I normally go for with brunch) some of the best I've had in awhile. The waffles underneath all of the fruit and generous serving of mascarpone tasted really great in a way I can't quite define. But I was pretty full and kept eating them anyway. We also split the smoked salmon lox platter. Pretty good. The soup wasn't super warm but my friend was also on kill mode with the photos. The croissant was decent. I liked the mixture of cold beets with avocado and egg with the salmon. It all went together nicely. The croissant was great to dip in the soup. The space outside is really nice for the spring and summer and they have twinkle lights. Not exactly enough places to charge a cellphone or laptop. . . . so come fully juiced if you're doing work here. But a great spot I'm going to keep in mind for the future. They seem to have taken a lot of thought into also providing healthier food options with really fresh and natural ingredients. 3.5 stars To be honest, I thought I would be more impressed. I stopped by a little past 8AM (their opening time as listed on Yelp) and there was no one in sight...not even a single barista prepping to open the place. It wasn't until minutes after I had made a circle around the block and had come back did I notice the lights on in front. I was about to head into LPQ across the street, but decided to give Outro a shot. When I got inside, the barista and the cashier were still in the midst of opening up and settling the cash from the day before so I had to wait quite some time before they could take my order. I ordered the avocado salmon waffle and a flat white. The flat white was prepared quickly but 20 minutes after I had ordered I still had not seen the waffle I had ordered for dining in. Finally, I asked the cashier and found out they were having some difficulty heating the waffle iron. I told them I needed to head out and they were nice enough to package my waffle for me (still VERY nicely presented) to go. I appreciated that they also attempted to make up for the long wait with an oreo cheesecake cup with my to-go order. It was super delicious and I'd totally go back just for another one. Otherwise, verdict for the coffee: nothing special that I would haaaave to go back to this particular cafe for. As for the salmon avocado waffle, I was a huge fan. Not only was it beautiful and colorful, the smoked salmon and the avocado were obviously very fresh and the waffle was - of course - made to order. Everyone is about the avocado toast now-a-days, so I think the waffle was something unique and actually worked really well as a base. My only comment is that it tasted a little blander than I would have expected. I will definitely be visiting again and updating my review - hopefully to a 4 or 5 star! read more

Outro... where do I begin? They took 19 minutes to get me my latte then took 29 to get my friend hers when she ordered before me. Hope, the barista with the worst attitude I've ever seen, told her when she first inquired to wait the orders were coming out in order (even though mine came out first, when I ordered after her). After a few more minutes without receiving her drink she asked the same barista, Hope, for a refund. This was at 27 minutes no latte. Hope told her that she should be able to give her a refund and her latte- which seems fair, considering we came with an hour to spare and wanted a coffee date, right? Then my friends coffee is finally called out so she goes to get it from the counter to have the barista say "did you want your latte or a refund?" At that same moment our friend Hope - came up and demanded that she speak to her manager at the front of the store. The manager, Christina, then told her it wasn't a 30 minute wait (it was literally 29 minutes from the ticket time- when she placed the order- until they presented the coffee up front.) that she could have the refund or the now 3 minute old latte... like in what world would you charge me for a latte I waited 29 minutes for then In addition you've been holding behind the counter for an additional 3 minutes- of course I don't want that cold latte?? Any ways the two of us work in restaurants and hospitality. The hostility of the manager and the barista (let me say their names again) Hope and Christina was the worst I've ever seen. I'm unsure if they're miserable at their jobs and projecting or if they truly were so inhospitable that they couldn't accommodate one latte since you inconvenienced us and wasted our valuable time. Anyways I hope they find peace and another job because hospitality shouldn't be on their resume. Oh did I mention there are HELLA fruit flies? Save your money and spend it elsewhere. read more

Sadly not what I was hoping for. The place is definitely cute, but that's about all that there is. I came here with my call team for brunch after work on a Monday morning. One person in the group was already bummed that we weren't going to Cookshop (his favorite brunch place), but Outro is closer to the hospital (sort of, closer than Cookshop at least), and then close to the Q for me to get home fast. But I still managed to convince the group to come here - at the least for the Instagram. We walk in around 8:15am. The shop was empty, but hey, they just opened at 8am so whatever. There was one barista/whatever her role is in the store. The store itself is huge, the furniture and decorations were cute, there was a backyard with tables which would make a nice place to go to for coffee when the weather is nice. We sat inside. So first, we order at the counter - this seems to be a serve yourself brunch, which is completely fine with me. No problem there. The thing I didn't like was that the barista was not very friendly - she sort of told us what to do, take a seat, order at the register, sign in on Yelp ("no you aren't signing in correctly, etc"). No smile. We all order. The wait wasn't too long for the food. Two people ordered the breakfast waffle with eggs and the other two ordered some sweet waffle. They said they liked the food, but wasn't mind blown by it. I ordered the strawberry waffle with marscapone and ice cream. I was excited for it based on the reviews and how pretty it was. But it was only pretty. The waffle itself was nicely made - fresh, soft, not too sweet but not too bland. Unfortunately the ice cream on top of the waffle was too sweet, and tasted like cheap ice cream from a box. The marscapone was barely there, couldn't taste it at all. The whole dish is topped with this strawberry jam, which was also way too sweet and tasted like it came from a jar. I felt like I got diabetes eating this thing. I also ordered a matcha coffee, which was tasty at first - the matcha cream on top was very tasty, not too sweet, full of matcha taste, and topped with a pretty flower on top. Too bad after I mixed the cream with the coffee, the whole coffee taste was gone, and all I was left with was a drink that tasted like matcha mixed with water. At the end of our meal, we had to bring our dishes back to the counter. I think the barista seemed overwhelmed. I was disappointed with this place. I visited Outro with absolutely no expectations. Photos of brunch from this spot have been flooding my social media feeds, and I imagined Outro to be just that: perfect for virtual likes but not so great for the tastebuds. I tried the Salmon Benedict (which is only available on the weekends) which came with a cup of soup and a small salad. To my pleasant surprise, the food looked amazing AND tasted good. My friends also enjoyed their waffles as well. Seating is limited and service is slow. With all the social media hype, the place gets crowded and it can take a while to find a table. Coffee shop with an unassuming exterior on Broadway just south of Union Sq. You'd never know that it had a fairly extensive seating area (for a cafe in this location, especially), nor that it had a big backyard patio for when the weather is nice. Some of the drinks here are very unique, such as the taro cream latte or the matcha rose latte with amazing latte art. They're a bit on the pricey side, and the food (which is also very overpriced) that I've tried so far has been just OK, not particularly delicious or memorable. Still, I understand the prices they charge for a great place to work solo or with friends - you'll see many people doing work on their laptops or chatting with others. Whenever I'm in the area and want to study for a while, I think of outro. (But it's always crowded in the cafe, since everyone is thinking the same way! This place seems like a tourist trap. Really overpriced and underwhelming for the cost. Avoid unless you are desperate for a cafe. We got the French Toast and Salmon Avo Waffle. Both were decent but for the price and quantity it left us both still hungry. Not worth a $50+ breakfast. I've had far better French toast for a fraction of the price. Caramel macchiato is poorly done, I couldn't bring myself to finish it. The coffee itself was quite weak too, could barely taste it (they over sweetened the drink). Golden Latte was well made but this is a cafe and should be known for good coffee. The one positive thing about this place is the abundance of seating. It's quite large in the back so I suppose if you have a big group, etc it might be worth coming here. I don't think I'll come back here again and I leave this as a honest review and heads-up if folks want to know what to expect. read more
