I've been a few times to give this popular local place a try. I found the food to be good, but not worth the hype. I also felt it was very expensive for what it was. Manager rudely told me to never come back... All over $5.00!!! My daughter ordered a kids meals and I ordered a sandwich and we switched because I did not like my sandwich. Manager rudely told me because we switched meals I would have to pay $2.50 more for the meal plus $2.50 for the soda my daughter drank (included in kids meal)! I paid the $2.50 added price for the meal (sadly) but refused to pay for the soda. The service here was incredible! Myself and my mom we're in a hurry so after we sat we asked if we could get the food quickly and within 15 minutes tops our food was in front of us. First time here. No complimentary bread or anything offered when you arrive. Nice ambience clean dining area. Friendly wait staff. I'm not a meat eater so I stick with the salad, which was not good or at least mediocre at the best. Had the chicken avocado salad & Barely ate it. Their sweet potato fries are clearly the frozen fries (tasted like the Alexia brand I buy at home), definitely not home made. Nothing on dessert menu enticed me. I must say though, their she crab soup was amazing! Best thing on my experience there. Just moved to Wake Forest several months ago. My husband and I finally had a chance to have our first lunch date since moving here. We decided to check out a restaurant in town and we were very happy we chose to go to OTF. We were surprised at how busy it was during a weekday and how many options there were on the menu. Everything we ordered was great! The waitress was so nice and welcoming. She even gave us a dessert on the house. I like to try locally owned places when traveling and have eaten here twice when we were in the area for my sons' hockey games. The atmosphere is cozy and the menu large but everything we ordered was just ok. This time I had the BLT- huge portion, fresh L &T lots of bacon but nothing special. My son ordered chicken wings with red dragon sauce as it was rec'd by our waitress; wings were cooked nicely and crisp but sauce was too sweet for our taste. He also had the Heat it burger which was cooked well and huge. We had both regular fries and sweet potato fries and neither were great. Sweet potatoes we're little under cooked. I previously ordered the stir fry and was underwhelmed. I wasn't really looking at the prices so was surprised when our lunch bill for 2 people with just 1 ice tea came to over $50. As an aside, they serve Udi's gluten free bread. I give them props for having that option but I have had local GF bread at another deli that w oils have been a much better option. read more

Yum! We love Over the Falls...in my opinion one of Wake Forest's best restaurants. I usually order and split the baby portobello appetizer, a petite salad, and the spinach and artichoke flatbread. Oh gosh me and my daughters went here because of the rave reviews. It was desolate at 4 PM and it took several minutes for a hostess to come and seat us. The waitress was very nice but we ended up with no dressing on the salads and having to ask for several condiments. I ordered the roast beef sandwich which ended up seeming to me as a steak umm sandwich. I definitely could have made this myself at home for an eighth of the cost. One thing about North Carolina is that it takes 20-30 mins just to get anywhere. Good things about that is their rush hour is what we here in Southern California call a light traffic day. I have waited to post this as it is a community favorite & I was hoping my initial disappointments were flukes or maybe I didn't order the best option. After my first visit...I was disappointed in the philly I had ordered. The texture of the meat was off and everything was greasy. I make maybe 3-4 more visits over the next year and a half. Always leaving thinking, "that was really not worth it." (too greasy, bland, tough depending on what I ordered, especially for the price) Finally I was there last Friday & got their fish fry special. It was more greasy than it needed to be & the fish was mushy. So today I say...get a salad from here as one last ditch effort. I ordered a salad & a cup of soup. It was $16! But ok...let's just try it. It won't be too tough or greasy at least. When I dig into my salad, that cost me $16, it looked like this (see pic below). There were so many brown, soggy, bad pieces of lettuce I had to just toss it! I am saddened because I wanted to love this local spot but I am done. Great food. Great service. We had the crab dip and firecracker shrimp for an appetizer. The crab dip was just okay but was a generous portion. The shrimp was absolutely delicious, and I would order it again. I had the Tony burger, which consisted of a 1/2 pound burger, avocado, monterey Jack, bacon, and honey mustard. Bruchetta not so good. It was supposed to have fresh motzerella on it. It did not taste anything like that. It tasted like goat cheese. Not good. The Waiter asked how our meals were and I expressed my dislike and why. He responded with nothing. In other words, he was not interested in hearing anything negative about the food. I did not eat the appetizer and he did not offer a solution. Poor business decision. Husband ordered the fried chicken sandwich...Used to be a nice thick breast of chicken with a thin, crispy breading; now it is a flat, almost non-existent piece of pressed chicken in between a thick layer of breading.
