While the food at Oyama is alright, the service is unacceptable. Weekend nights see high order volumes in the restaurant and through take-out orders, and management can't seem to find the balance --eventually shortchanging each. Their responses to complaints are contra to the basic hospitality expected. read more

We really wanted to like this place. But, we were served fish that was gray. Sushi Ko is 100 times better for a well priced meal with good service and good fish. The service was very attentive at Oyama but the experience irreparably damaged by the following experience: We were just about finished with our meal, and the waitress served us a large sushi roll we did not order. She said "a table ordered this roll (the table right next to us) but they didn't want it because we put hot sauce on it by accident. It is on the house". How inappropriate and disgusting. Who does this? We told her thank you, but we did not want the roll. We will not be back. read more

I was looking forward to eating here since it is conveniently located and new in town. It was awful. The pieces of sashimi are huge bricks - not delicate, mouth watering morsels as they should be. The Shiro Maguro was inedible. One piece was fishy, one piece's texture was clearly thawed (yeah, I know - most sushi is previously frozen but it sure as hell shouldn't feel like it) and the last piece I sent back. At least they took my order off the bill. The tempura was decent, the miso fine, but even the piece of broccoli in the tempura was too big to eat in one bite. Plastic menu, rude waitstaff (they turned the lights off when my mother and I were lingering over our sake after paying the check and apparently they were closed at 2:30 for their own staff lunch) and crap food. My mother's beef teriyaki was "tough," as she said. We won't be back and I'll be sure to let all of my Marin folks know to avoid this place. I don't see it lasting long - there are better places around here. read more

I've eaten here several times because it is one of the few options in Bon Air. I placed a pickup order and was EXTREMELY disappointed. I ordered ramen and was told they have no spoons to go. I don't understand how they sell soup but don't have spoons. The checkout was very inefficient - I was ignored for 15 minutes before I was finally checked out. When I got to my desk - my soup was lukewarm. There was also nothing in the ramen other than noodles - not the traditional bamboo shoots, mushrooms, corn, nori - nothing. I've eaten ramen in store and it comes with the same things. If I'm charged full price (not cheap) - I expect my soup to be warm, have a spoon, and include all the things it traditionally includes in store. Absolutely ridiculous. We came here all hopeful. No one is Japanese in this place, not the cooks or the servers. That is fine, I mean, Chinese people (the cooks and the servers) can make great sushi. We ordered Japanese green tea and a Sapporo beer. After waiting for what seemed like hours we got our drinks. That was the WORST green tea I ever had. First of all, it was not Japanese green tea. It was very bitter, tasted funny. Anyway, we ordered sushi and oyakodon. There were several udon soups and one was all Chinese meat and Chinese broth. I thought we were in a Japanese restaurant... The udon we ordered arrived about 20 minutes after the sushi was served. The miso soup, which is supposed to be served first, arrived a lot later as well, when the sushi was all gone. So, the udon was a big bowl of disgusting-tasting broth, with what looked like a fried egg floating, some disgusting-tasting noodles, some chicken with lots of fat attached. Basically, unedible. The sushi was OK. A disgusting meal and we will NOT be back, EVER! read more

I went last week for the first time with high hopes. I ordered hamachi sushi and maguro sushi. The pieces were huge and because sushi is meant to be eaten in one bite, it was awkward trying to eat. I might have overlooked that but the hamachi was well past its prime and the maguro was tasteless. I am giving 2 stars because my friend's tempura was good and my daughter said her eel roll was good. read more

I'm writing this review after finishing my 3rd visit where the service was abysmal, and being the eternal optimist that I am, decided to give them a few more chances rationalizing the experience as an outlier. I can now confidently conclude it was NOT an outlier, and that the service is bad enough to ruin the meal. I sat at the sushi bar and watched for 30+ minutes as take-out orders were prioritized over customers without a glass of water offered or some show of good faith. Stopped by on our way to the Point Bonita Lighthouse, and it was the perfect place for lunch! Their fish tastes so fresh, and we left with our hunger satisfied! We ordered the Poki Roll, Sake Roll, Jalapeño Jumper Roll, and a Cherry Blossom Roll. This place was really great, and the prices seemed reasonable for the quality of sushi we received. Recommend this place if you're in the Marin area. read more

First, I called 3 days prior to let them know it was my husbands birthday and we would like to reserve a table for 6. Immediately I was told that we needed to be on time because they would only hold our reservation for ten minutes. Okay. Weird but whatever. I told all of our guests to make sure to be on time. When we arrived the place had a few diners but was by all means not busy. I told them we had a reservation and they acted as if it didn't matter and I needn't have called There was no table set up for 6 I really could have walked in and said "6 of us" and gotten a table. Ok fine. We sat ordered sake and got 3 cups and 3 waters. 2 still hadn't arrived. I said we needed 6 cups and 6 waters. They were so confused. Eventually we got our beverages. We ordered fried calamari. It was the worst I've ever had! Ok this is sushi I said. Everything else we ordered was amazing and so delicious! Who knew who our server was though. When it came time for dessert I asked for green tea ice cream with a candle. Which I had asked for when I made the reservation Ok. Done. It arrived with a candle, we sang, and sat for about 5 minutes, enough for it to melt significantly, with no spoons or anything else to eat it with, not even chopsticks. I had to get up and ask for spoons and they looked at me like I was crazy! Finally got spoons. At the end I asked to talk to a manager and was told no manager on duty. Ok. I politely said I was disappointed with the service and she said oh, sorry we have new people. Great food, delicious rolls, bad service. Don't go on a special occasion. Only on a whim. I recommend the food-delicious! Service-meh or worse. Then while we were counting our cash to pay the bill the woman I talked to stood hovering over me for the entire time we were figuring out the bill. Again weird. Love the food not the service. probably one of the worst customer service experiences that I've had in a long time.I was first in line to order some sushi to go, no one acknowledged me standing there for quite some time.When they finally asked me if I had an item to pick up, I said No but I would like to order, he completely disregarded what I said and asked the next person in line if they had an order to pick up, the next waiter came over and proceeded to ask another person if he had an order to pick up.So I left without ordering, this is the third time I have had very poor service, you ask why I keep going back?Well the sushi is good but at this point I will find another restaurant to go to, Sorry Oyama I really tried to give you a chance but poor service is something I don't reward with my patronage nor a recommendation read more
