Service was horrible. Food was good. I had to ask for service 15 minutes after sitting because they just kept passing us up. The waiter was about to order the drinks when the guy just walked away. Five minutes I asked another lady if someone was going to take our order. We explained that the guy just walked away when we were deciding on our drinks. Our food came then asked for forks for my kids. Ten minutes later my wife had to go to the front to ask for the forks again. No one asked to refill our drinks until once again we asked. Updating my review because they've really improved in terms of their customer service. The sushi is always delicious and I'm a sucker for the gyoza. They're really attentive and remember me which is a nice touch. They've also added more staff on busy nights and it seems pretty fluid between take out and dine in on busy nights. Ordered online through uber eats and the food that arrived looked and tasted disgusting and was not close to what was pictured. When I tried to call to have it fixed the woman who answered the phone tried to tell me that the picture was submitted by a customer (that's not how uber eats works) and the manager was useless as well and just said the picture is wrong. No apology no come in and we will fix it nothing. So I spent $17 on a roll that looks like vomit. The customer service alone is enough to never bring me back. read more

We love the bento boxes chicken teriyaki and one other fried item or salmon, etc. Just excellent! Chicken Katso , gyoza dumplings, salmon teriyaki with salad, soup and rice. A real great lunch! Beef was a little tough so stay away from that, everything else was great. read more

I really enjoyed my evening here. What first brought me in was the comfortable atmosphere. I made my own roll. Imitation crab, cream cheese, avocado, topped with spicy tuna. Yum ! It was delicious. Probably the worst service I have ever experienced at a Sushi place. First a server came up to us and this is what he asked "You guys wanna order or something". I mean yea we came there to eat sushi. We put in our order received our miso soups and waited, waited and waited. Meanwhile the three chefs kept looking at us and smiling. After about 35 minutes of waiting I asked if we were going to get any food. They came up with some story that oh the tickets were under something. So we did something we had never done before - WE WALKED OUT HUNGRY. The owner nor the chefs showed any type of remorse for us leaving. The bottom line is that the service was terrible and we will not be going back although we live in Bon Air and they are literally 2 min away from us. read more

Have been going there for years. food is fine. used to sit outside but they are now only open for take out. i am writing this review because of the rude and unaccommodating service i just received. i have ordered their bento box for years and always ask that they substitute one tempura vegetable for another. they always have accommodated. today on the phone the person taking the order said they could only change one item. i had asked for two onions in my tempura. she said that she could not because they never do. i told her i always get it this way. on the phone she said "i dont have time for this" do you want your order or not? i decided to go there anyway. when i got there "Candice" once again started arguing with me that they have never done my request. and then started questioning me as if i had never been there before. she was so rude and unwilling to do anything but drag the argument out. if Oyama considers that good customer service then i will never go there again. if management thinks this behavior is ok i suggest no one go there either. read more

So I have been here in past and it was fine. The food was ok and the service had been good. Of all days I decided to meet my friend and I'm waiting outside as I'm a few minutes early and the restaurant doesn't open until 11:30. I mention to the lady the pollution is super bad because of the fires in Sonoma and Napa might we be able come and just wait inside! All she could do was shrug her shoulders and tell me they open at 11:30. Would it have been so hard for her to have empathy and realize the smoke is terrible to breathe in, makes the eyes burn and gets into your chest. I can only assume that either she doesn't think or she just doesn't care as long as it isn't affects her. read more

I stopped in for lunch today based on pretty good Yelp reviews and because I was in the area. This is a plain looking restaurant in a plain looking strip mall. The sushi was quite good as was the miso soup and seaweed salad. I sat alone at the sushi bar after being waved there by the hostess. However, the service was not good. A short young lady server with glasses hopped up on the bar stool next to me and reached over the glass to get her customers order and accidentally elbowed me. Three times! She acted like I was in the way although I was sitting at the bar where I was told to sit. If all the orders come out over the glass then figure out your system and have them come out of ONE place and don't have customers sit there! She also brought another customer the wrong food and delivered my bill to a man sitting at the end of the bar so....maybe she just needs some training. Also, rap music with the F word isn't really the best choice for a family establishment. read more

I'm surprised this place has such great reviews! Honestly they are overpriced and the fish lacks any flavor. Drawing something on my plate doesn't make up for the lacking flavor profile. To call this a "Japanese" restaurant is a travesty. From the other reviews, I guess a lot of people are happy with their offerings but they are certainly not Japanese or even particularly good. I travel extensively in Japan which may put me at a disadvantage. I know what good Japanese cuisine should be and there are good Japanese restaurants in the county - Sushi Ran, Village Saki, Masa's among them. Here, the fish quality was mediocre, the preparations were crude - no finesse and on top of all that, the service was appalling. We have eaten here a number of times and have always thought the food was great. I usually order the Nabe Udon soup. It is very flavorful, stuffed with chicken, shrimp, vegetables & egg, and comes out very hot in a huge bowl. My wife orders the chicken teriyaki or tempura prawns with vegetables. Hooray, there's a new restaurant in the Bon Air shopping center (next to Peet's Coffee). The staff was excellent, very attentive and professional. The food was very good, fresh fish and very artfully presented. The display of sauces on the plate of the Four Seasons roll was gorgeous. The prices are decent, certainly reasonable for the quality. My only complaint is the sauces were a bit rich for my taste. The Ocean Roll was very good. They don't yet have their liquor license. read more

I have to agree with some others, the service was REALLY bad. Not really a Japanese feel in here. The staff was Chinese. The food took a long time and they weren't too busy. And after the food was served, they never checked back on us. We had to walk over to them to get the check. However, I can say the sushi was just ok, the tempura was ok, the tempura sauce was really weak, but the gyoza was delicious! It had a great smoky taste. Service was OK but rushed from one server and HORRIBLE from the other. Horrible server looked right at me when I walked in the door and went back to whatever she was dong. OK server took notice of me when another customer pointed me out. OK server seated me and took my order. She seemed rushed, despite that fact that the place had only 3 other tables. Horrible server delivered my edamame and when I said thank you she GRUNTED. Yes, she grunted! I thought maybe I mis-heard... so when she delivered my meal, I thanked her again, and again she GRUNTED. She made the experience unpleasant. She's rude, has no people skills and shouldn't be allowed to interact with the public. Had she not been so horrible I would have given a 4 star review and OK server would have gotten a full pass, since she wasnt' unpleasant, just seemed rushed. I went there last week with a friend. The food was okay. The sashimi tasted a little mushy- not sure if it was thawed out. The service was good but the waitress seems to be so pushy.
