My family has been back to P. Terry's many times over the past months -- too often than is good for us, if truth be told. Their food has consistently been great. The burgers are always nicely seasoned and stuffed with fresh vegetables. Sometimes the meat patties are a tad overcooked, other times perfectly juicy. Of course, we prefer them juicy... much tastier! The fries are always hot and salted just so. And I'm excited to see that they are considering changing their bun! I happened to have a hamburger on the day they were trying out a slightly heftier bun. What a difference. My burger looked and felt bigger. It certainly tasted a whole lot better The bun held its own despite the meat patty's lovely juices oozing all over it (yes, I know it's fatty grease, it's yummy though and that makes me happy). P. I have been a P Terry junkie from day one and am a fan for life! There is no other place in ATown where you can get such delicious food fast (depending on the day of week and time) and on the cheap! The #2 Special Sauce only w/Diet Dr P easy ice for $5.74? Yes, and please sir, may I have another? I will even teeter on the verge of upsetting the masses by declaring "I prefer PTerrys to In N Out" (and I once received a free tshirt from calling the In N Out hotline so many times to locate the nearest one when traveling out West!). However, I have to dock a star...why PTerry's, WHY are you always out of cookies?!? It is an soft oatmeal tease of chocolate-y nomness every time I go in and my PTerry-stickered Saran-wrapped heart breaks a little more with each "sorry we're out for today". It's a travesty that P. Terry's isn't rated higher across the board on Yelp. Sure, it's fast food, but fast food that contends with much pricier options in terms of taste and quality of ingredients. This location in particular has always had a great combination of food quality and fantastic service. You'll hear a lot of talk on this page about thin patties - while they aren't enormous, they're no smaller than any other fast food joint. If you're feeling hungry (as I usually am at P. Terry's), get the double. It's cheap enough. The fries are certainly controversial. They're very thinly sliced and incorporate bits of potato skin. Here's the secret - the fries are best eaten fresh as they're served. Taken to-go, the oil tends to set in, making the fries a little limp. It's for this reason that you'll hear about such a range of experiences with the fries. I like to keep my sodium intake as low as possible, so I've taken to asking for my fries without salt at P. Terry's. I don't know if it's because they make a fresh batch for me, but I've found this request increases the consistency of the fries. In terms of value and quality for the money, P. Terry's simply can't be beat. It's also a local chain that supports the Austin community well - employees are paid higher-than-average wages for the industry, and P. Terry's is well known for donating all of their profits several days a year to charity. Don't settle for In-N-Out - choose P. Terry's. read more

After some back and forth correspondence with the owner, I found out that their supplier had switched potatoes on them, which accounted for the difference in quality. He also said they made some changes to the meat so that now, they put salt and pepper on it when they cook it. The fries were much better for sure. They aren't the most incredible fries in the world, but they are good. I'm happy they are made fresh from potatoes, instead of in a scary factory treated with who-knows-what-where (see Burger King's fries). The cheeseburger was a lot better than before, maybe b/c this time I put on ketchup and mustard, not just eating it with the special sauce it comes in. Of course if the special sauce were good enough on its own, I wouldn't need ketchup and mustard, right? Their veggie burger is very tasty!!! The chicken burger is also very good. Still, the food is a really damn good deal, especially if you are choosing between a shitty chain or a local business. I can walk away from eating this meal and not feel scared of the contents like I am at the chain burger places. However, I still think they need to do a better job with fixins. The onions are not onions sliced...they are chopped and not very flavorful at all. Blech. The lettuce is still cheap flavorless iceburg lettuce...wish they would switch to something else, like green leaf or romaine or anything. Iceburg lettuce just sucks big-time. They also should think about warming up their buns...cold buns make that first bite taste weaker than it should. Overall, I am definitely coming back here as a regular. Great burgers and prices that can complete with the golden arches. They give you a generous amount of fries, not 5 Guy generous, but still plenty. I recommend adding bacon, but that is general life advice, not just P Terry's. Also, spring for a shake on occasion, they are kinda magical. I am continually impressed by this burger spot. Their food is so good - fresh, delicious, and reasonably priced. I live in North Carolina, and we don't have any comparable burger joints in NC. Love my burgers simple and P.Terry's did me right. After eating here, I don't feel disgusting or bloated like at Whataburger. The burgers are just the perfect size. The cheeseburger is great just the way they come (lettuce, tomato, secret sauce). The line usually isn't too long for either so that's a nice perk. It's a standard P. Terry's menu - I like getting my burgers wrapped in lettuce at times so if you're interested, that's an option. I find their milkshakes to be a tad too sweet for my taste. Fries are decent and have a different shape and form than other fast food places, but the taste isn't anything special. The produce on the burger didn't look as fresh as I thought it would and it detracted a little. The fries are excellent, strangely addictive. I think its one of the few places where the fries aren't overly salted either. The milkshakes here are incredible. Likely one of the best ones I've had in a very long time. Strongly suggest the strawberry one. Would I choose to come here over other fast food joints? Yes if I was in the neighborhood and not interested in dollar menu items elsewhere. A couple of friends and I came here Saturday noon when I came to Austin. Their parking lot is a mess because of its drive thru. Ordered food for 5 people, including a shake. It's cheap - $6 per person pretty much. Honestly, I thought it was like an In N Out restaurant but liked it better. I got the hamburger, fresh and tasty. The special sauce didn't make my buns soggy! :) I hate it when my burger gets soggy from too much sauce. Fries were fresh as well. An order of fries is good for two people. I think I came to P. Terry's with my expectations too high. I'd been disappointed by other burger places in Austin, but was assured by my friends that this place would be different. They were telling me this place was better than In-N-Out Burger. Okay, c'mon--you know you're building it up when you say something that bold. Well, it wasn't much different than the other places in Austin. The biggest difference (and the reason I gave it 4 instead of 3 stars) is that it was a lot cheaper (especially when compared against Elevation Burger). The burgers are OK. Not super flavorful. Their fries are also OK. They don't blow my mind, but I don't regret eating them. It's pretty cool that this place tries to be "healthier" or at least "less-fast-foodish". I've been here twice and had 2 vastly different experiences. The first time I came here everything came out perfectly. The cheeseburger was very good considering this is a chain restaurant. Even the fries were well seasoned and not soggy. Second time? Well, not anywhere close to what we experienced the first time. It's hard to rate a place that can be so inconsistent between visits. This place always seems to have a caravan of cars going through the drive-through so if you're in a hurry try somewhere else. I'm tired of all the hype about In-N-Out, so a group of us did a side by side comparison. For me: P-Terry wins. I've tried In-N-Out in Cali and Texas, but their burgers do not compare with P-Terrys. In-N-Out: Cheaper burgers, animal style burger's grilled onions give it a unique taste, milk shakes are like bricks (some argue its good) but I can't enjoy it while Im eating the burger, fries aren't bad (don't like animal style on these though) P-Terrys: Burger patties more flavorful seasoning, diced raw onions add the crisp, milk shakes are alright but at least they are smooth, fries are greasy but great, grab lettuce wrap instead of buns and you can taste the sauce better, free doggy treats? Just got back from a visit to Austin where Yelper Mark D. introduced me to P. Terry's veggie burger. I'm a meat eater; I also like a good veggie burger. Not a fan of mayo, I had them hold the "special sauce" which we found out is a blend of mustard, mayo and ketchup and just went with the mustard. It's been three days and I can't stop thinking about it! And, the fries... skin on: quite possibly the best fast food fries I've had! Now, I've never actually seen a P. Terry's. We had takeout generously delivered to the house by a friend, so I can't complain about seating, or cleanliness, or the staff... but I can tell you: if I lived in Austin I would eat P. Close enough to dismiss my aching voracity for a double-double animal style and fresh cut fries. Lets not get crazy. There can only be one In n Out. No more, no less. However, given that Austin is over-run with west coasters whining about this-and-that, at least one can have this in his or her arsenal when the bitching and moaning about Cali becomes unbearable. The staff at this location are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Thank you, thank you for making me the most popular girl at school this year.....my son's school, that is. Picking up lunch from this location and delivering it to 50+ kids twice a month has seen to it. They're usually on the playground when I get there with all my boxes of food and they're chanting and drooling as I waft by with their lunch. Parents email me, frantic they've missed the deadline for the big day. After all, kids have been known to cry if mom and dad send them with a sad sack lunch instead of those tasty burgers and fries the kid next to them is scarfing down.
