This is a good option for a meal in the sunset area if you are looking for something more commercial. It was bustling on a game night, mostly in the bar area, but we didn't have any issues getting a large table for a party of two. We ordered two rice bowls and a two taco platter - way too much food in hindsight, but we enjoyed having all of the options. I found my Japanese wasabi bowl with salmon (grilled, btw) and 1/2 brown rice 1/2 greens to be very filling and I liked all of the toppings it included. The ingredients were fresh and they don't skimp on anything! The name is a bit of a misnomer though, as there was no wasabi that I could taste or see in my bowl. My mom's WestCoast grilled salmon bowl looked equally delicious but with an assortment of other toppings. The tacos were quite hefty in serving size as well. The two tacos could have been a meal on their own, but were served with a side of fries (or salad) and a small bowl of black beans. The Traditional Baja taco and the Grilled Steak taco were both excellent choices, depending on your palate and dietary preferences! read more

This was my 2nd trip to the newly renovated Pacific Catch on 9th Ave and something I've never done before - leaving a 2nd review for the same place. The 1st time I went for lunch, this time I stopped by for dinner. There were several things I wanted to order so I had the Mixed Grill for One. It was a ton of food! It comes with sea bass, salmon, and a couple of shrimp. They offer a choice of 4 different sauces and I chose the miso-glaze. It was FANTASTIC. With this combo you also choose from about 6 sides, I had the house salad (also in a miso dressing) and the fried rice. It was a ton of food and I couldn't quite finish the plate. I asked my server Robert to tell the chef it was delicious but I just couldn't eat it all. Like the server the 1st time I went here, Robert was the perfect combo of attentive but not intrusive. They must teach that approach to their staff because it's consistent. If there was a rating option for service, this would be a -1 *. 3* is for the food. With the remodel, natch, prices have risen quite a bit. $32 for Salmon! But my friend really enjoyed his meal, actually all of us did. But every time I go here for a meal, the service is non existent. I find myself giving myself better service, by having to constantly seek out my server, for service that should be a no brainer. Much easier to eat if one has silverware. This was no different this past Sat. 11/12/2022, when 3 of us dined for lunch at 12:30 PM. We were all looking forward to this lunch after a long stroll through the Botanical Gardens. We all got a bad vibe right from the get go. One of our guests uses an electric wheelchair. So they seat us in the middle of the dining room, right in the line of traffic coming from the kitchen. Well, they showed us to our table and didn't remove any chair so our friend could roll up to the table. Geez, common sense test #1, all other tests they failed. I shall not go forth with this review, as it's not favorable, other than the food. I will say the fried Calamari was FANTASTIC. Don't bother with the "Crab Mashed Potatoes", there was no crab in site and it was $3 more if chosen as one of your sides. read more

I've had some great meals at this restaurant over the years, but my experience last week was disappointing. My Agave Margarita was incredibly sweet. I expect a Margarita to be crisp and refreshing; this was a heavily-sugared "ladies' drink." My friend's Miso Yellowtail was fine, but my coconut shrimp (on the Fish & Chips menu) was pretty awful. The breading was flavorless, over-cooked, and way too thick. I actually removed it and just ate the shrimp. But then what's the point of having a coconut breading? There was no coconut flavor whatsoever, actually no flavor of any kind, unless you like deep-fried cardbord. I love the decor and the location, but I'm not sure I'll ever go back. The service was very good, and the food came out at a timely manner. I had their wagyu beef burger and it is top tier, guys. When I walked in, it smelled like a fish poultry store, but it wasn't a bad stench or anything. The interior designs are very modern and nice, so the atmosphere was relaxing. The pricing is quite high, but the food is very yummy and tasty. I also got the coconut shrimp, and it was alright (it was $14 for 7 pieces); it was literally just fried coconut shreds encasing a shrimp. This is a very unique restaurant and smells like fish. Unfortunately, they do not take reservations but they have two sides that you can dine at. What use to be the parking lot is now the tiki dine area or you can dine at the actual pacific catch area. So you will have to go to the front desk area right when you walk thru the door, and let them know how many people in you party and they will take you number down and text you when the seat is ready. It was hard to decide what to get. I was originally deciding between the poke bowl or the pick your dish section. You basically choose between three types of fish, then choose a sauce and veggie, and the another veggie. I had previously looked on yelp to see the moved posted and appetizing dishes. And I noticed a lot of postings of the Brussels sprouts and the cauliflower. I ended up choosing the Thai sauce cauliflower and the Brussels sprouts. And both were amazing. I loved the Thai sauce with Brussels sprouts. The cauliflower was bit on the firm side. Like then I bit on the steam of the cauliflower it still felt a bit firm. But overall the staff were nice and the food was delicious. read more

Tried this spot for the first time on a Friday during COVID and was able to get seated within five minutes! I really appreciated how our server explained that the restaurant prides itself on being sustainably sourced and that they are extremely flexible and open to substitutions if needed. For my drink, I ordered an island mule, which was sour and super refreshing. Shared an order of the spicy tuna roll as a starter and loved how the tiny jalapeños on top were actually spicy. For my main, I got the massive Korean BBQ bowl, which could comfortably be split into two large portions. The entire dish was super tasty and flavorful; the brussel sprouts were well done and the steak was tender. The service is SO BAD I want to give it a zero, but that's not possible, so I give it a one star. It was today, Saturday January 8th, 2022, my boyfriend and I were excited to come to eat here because we had a great experience at the Pacific Catch at Marina SF. Because Marina District is quite far from our house compared to the Sunset District, we decided to give this location's Pacific Catch a try. We walk into the restaurant around 11:40am. The restaurant opened at 11am. So I didn't expect a lot of people when we got there. And I was right. There were only two tables that were taken during the time we got there. A group of 6 at the table close to the door. And another table that was hidden in the corner behind the hostess booth (in an area that cannot be seen from the entryway of the restaurant). So us being so excited to eat there we already knew EXACTLY what we wanted to order and were craving it for like a week now. BUT SADLY, WE WERE NOT SEATED. The hostess walked away from his booth area to go do something, which wasn't a problem because we expected him to come back, and we were in no rush so we patiently waited next to the booth. The hostess came back a few minutes later, and quickly left afterwards to do something else. The waitress was serving drinks to the customers that were sitting at the table that was in the corner. After she served the drinks, she looked at us. I said Hi, thinking that she would say "oh hey, how many people is in your party?" Or "hey guys, you could pick any table" (because the restaurant was basically EMPTY) or "Please give me a moment, I will seat you soon". BUT NOPE. She raised her eyebrows and I guess smiled underneath her mask and walked away. But I'm not blaming it all on the waitress because it's not her job to seat customers. The hostess could have said one of those phases, but he didn't. THERE WAS NO WAY THAT THEY DIDNT SEE US. I even thought it was because we were standing in the wrong area. So I double checked and glanced around the restaurant to see if there were other openings/doors that we were supposed to be at. But no. We were standing at the correct spot right next to the hostess booth. There was a sign that said takeout is on the left, but we weren't there for takeout so we just stood where we were. BUT THE FACT THAT THEY KNEW WE WERE THERE AND DIDNT SEAT US. My boyfriend and I decided it was best to leave because given that they acknowledged us, didn't seat us, and didn't say a word to us were big red flags that their service was terrible. So we ate next door at Underdogs Tres and they sat us immediately. We will not be returning to Sunset District Pacific Catch due to this issue. Thanks for reading my review. The Japanese Ahi poke bowl is delicious! The small is definitely a big portion in my opinion. It has avocado, leafy greens, seaweed salad, sushi rice, ahi poke, tasty cucumber, tasty sauce and something else lol I love how the base of the bowl can be customized, I do 1/2 greens and 1/2 rice. I highly recommend if you want a quick bite to eat. I even order poke bowls via Uber eats from pacific catch because I love the variety you get in the bowl!! Very satisfying. I have eaten at Pacific Catch at least a half dozen times, probably more like ten times. My wife is fond of the place, and we live within walking distance. I always think, that was better than I expected. The truth is it is never my first choice in the neighborhood, because it is more competent than compelling. I am writing a review, however, to live up to a belief I have that too many Yelp entries set standards that cannot be met by normal businesses consistently at prices that ordinary consumers would pay. I likely will eat at Pacific Catch again, especially since they added outdoor seating. I haven't been disappointed. This is an all around seafood restaurant. I'm not a restaurateur. So I cannot identify the exact market niche they occupy. It's casual without feeling cheap, reasonably priced, sit down but not fancy, and family friendly. That last aspect might be why I'm not more enthusiastic, since I'm not the target demographic (no kids; no regrets about that either). It is a great place for a bigger party with varying palates, offering options likely to satisfy everyone. My wife brought some out of town guests there the other day. She said everyone enjoyed themselves, which also is what prompts me to submit this review. The quality is very good at the price point. The flavors are middle of the road. The raw fish dishes are acceptable for a place that does not specialize in sushi. They are certainly better than most establishments which simply added sushi on the side. The service is professional. Although we have waited to be seated because they are popular, we have had only a normal lapse of time for dishes to be served. So take it from my wife: she recommends Pacific Catch. At first I was afraid that getting there @11:30am was going to be busy and we may not get tables, however it was the perfect time for an early lunch! We were the first customers there and my friend was seated right away. I walked in and met with my friend when I got there. To start, we both got some drinks, I got the piña colada and she got the guava margarita. Both drinks we pretty solid, they were tasty. I was a bit surprised the piña colada was not blended, but it was still good. We got the spicy marg and mai tai to go. I've had better mai Tais, but it wasn't bad. For food, we got the calamari appetizer, and we both got the Mexican grill bowl with shrimp, half greens half brown rice. The calamari came with this sauce that might have been a spicy Mayo or some sort and it was delicious! We LOVED the Mexican bowls, had both greens and grains and protein! Everything you need. The food was overall very very good. The service, our server was attentive and friendly! The only thing I wish she could've told us was that the price for drinks were more expensive than the ones for dine in. We asked about the drinks to go and she failed to mention until I realized it on the bill, but other than that she was wonderful! Cocktails were good but if I could go back I think I'd go the pitcher route (way more bang for your buck). Apologies in advance to anyone from San Diego, but Pacific Catch is my baseline for good fish tacos. I know it's technically a Bay Area chain restaurant, but there's no denying that Pacific Catch manages to keep locals coming back whenever they're craving some unpretentious seafood: abundant seating (with the chance to choose between a livelier, younger happy hour crowd on the left side of the restaurant and a more family-oriented booth seating on the right), complimentary pretzel Goldfish and edamame at the beginning of your meal, and a plethora of menu options. Sure, you can order a rice bowl, sandwich, or maybe even a slightly overpriced poke bowl here, but I truly think the fish tacos are where Pacific Catch shines. Having driven past Pacific Catch all the time when I was younger, I didn't think to finally check it out until a few years ago when two of my friends shared that this was where they got their fish taco fix. Whatever you do, do not turn down the opportunity to pay an extra $1 for sweet potato fries. They are beyond flavorful and help you forget that you're eating at a chain restaurant. I also like the quaint Honolulu Tribune newspaper wax/butcher paper that the fish tacos come on because it feels like how a mom-and-pop fish stand would serve 'em. I like to get the three taco platter ($17.50 with the sweet potato fries) with traditional baja and cabo shrimp. With the cod and avocado-tomatillo salsa, the traditional baja is my personal favorite because it seems juicier and fresher, but I'm also a sucker for the cabo shrimp because of the generous amount of avocado it comes with. $17.50 certainly seems like a lot to pay for three fish tacos, but I've never been disappointed with the quality of the fish or found myself hungry again a few hours later. Speaking of prices, the Mai Tai here sure is tasty and will fulfill all your rum-related dreams, but at $11, I have a hard time justifying it because it's not exactly of cocktail bar caliber. So get a pitcher of it instead -- $40 for five servings! read more

Unfortunately while my order came out right, my sister in law got something similar but not what she wanted. Not sure if the order was given wrong by my bro or taken wrong by Pacific Catch. None the less I decided to try it again. Today I got a cranberry margarita, which is one of their winter cocktails, and crab mashed potatoes. The drink tasted mostly like juice and the mashed potatoes were very bland. So far I'm not impressed with this location. I would rate 2 stars but this time my waiter was very pleasant even though service was still slow his personality made it better. Currently debating on whether or not to give a third try. We had lunch here today. Our server, Seamus was absolutely the best. Since it was our first time here, he explained the menu to us and fish options and the most popular items ordered. We met one of my wife's cousin's sons who lives a few blocks away from here for lunch on 2/8/21 . . . just days after they were allowed to resume patio dining amid the COVID chaos. Aside from no science that proves indoor dining spreads the disease, perhaps this and other restaurants in CA will be able to fully open before they all go broke. Staff were glad to be working, pleasant, and very attentive . . . shouldn't be too hard when you can only seat about 8-10 people for front patio dining here. I think there is also a patio in the rear. The [vacant] interior dining space was attractive and can accommodate at least several dozen diners. From a distance, the bar looked well-stocked. We only had water on this occasion. We started off with an order of Guaca-Poke . . . a nice bowl of creamy guacamole with just the right hint of chile and topped with a number of 1/2" cubes of marinated Ahi tuna. Very tasty! The only "negative" about this appetizer is the chips -- not sure if these are house-made, but they are way too thick. Lighter chips would surely be an improvement. My wife and her cousin each ordered the Westcoast Grilled Salmon Bowl (one "small" and one "regular" -- but from where I was sitting, the $2 difference was almost imperceptible . . . maybe a fork or two extra greens). Visually, however, this was an attractive entree. I tried a forkful of the rice-quinoa "base" and didn't care for it -- too mushy for me (and I prefer long grain rice to the short grain rice used here). My wife later said she wasn't too thrilled with the rice either, and, finicky fish eater that she is, after we left said her salmon was a little too raw in the center for her liking -- which means it probably needed to stay on the grill at least another 90 seconds. I would have been disappointed with this entree. After seeing my platter, she probably would have preferred it. I was very satisfied with my choice of the Mixed Catch platter under the "Crispy Catch" menu heading. While I might have ordered the 3-pc fish & chips at $16, for an extra $3, the assortment of 2-pc cod, 3 coconut shrimp, and pile of calamari (both rings and a few tentacles) was a much better value. The very fresh-tasting cod was properly battered and crispy fried, and as generous a serving as you would get anywhere else. I thought the coconut shrimp were a bit overdone, obscuring the coconut flavor, but were plump and tasty otherwise. The calamari were perfect -- a tempura-like light and crispy batter and almost as much as you might get on an appetizer plate at most restaurants. Although I requested the lime-crema in place of the jalapeno tartar, I got the tartar instead, and found it had almost no heat, which was fine with me, but I think I would have preferred the crema. The chipotle aioli was very nice . . . smoky with a little bite. And the Thai sweet chili is always perfect with shrimp. I substituted a side of elote for the chips, but the $3 added cost was not worth the trade . . . the corn was visually appealing -- properly grilled, seasoned, and sauced -- but the kernels themselves were on the very small size, almost as if the ears were slightly immature (I got two stem ends, obviously not a single ear of corn cut into three pieces). Like all the other restaurants in the vicinity, parking is on the street, and hard to come by unless you get lucky (there is an off-street parking lot a block and a half away between 8th and 9th and Irving and Judah, but was taken up with the Sunday Farmer's Market). After circling the area for about 15-20 minutes, we managed to find a free spot at the corner of 7th and Kirkham, about a 7-8 minute walk downhill to the restaurant, and a 15 minute walk uphill on the way back . . . not too steep and not an unpleasant way to start our return trip to our home in the L.A. area. In all, we had an enjoyable, two hour visit and meal. The last time my wife saw her cousin was 19 years ago, to the day, when we were visiting her extended family in Argentina at the beginning of our three-week honeymoon excursion. ===The rest of this review has nothing to do with the restaurant itself=== San Francisco residents are surely anesthetized to it by now, but if you are not familiar with San Francisco dining these days, as we are not, you will definitely be surprised to see a "5% SF mandates" fee added to your bill (before sales tax!). It could have been higher! This is supposed to offset the employer's expense of the required additional pay ($2.12 - $3.18 per hour) to their employees to help cover the cost of health insurance under a 2008 voter-approved ordinance when Gavin "Nuisance" was mayor. Another more recent SF Mandate allows another 1% to be added for "climate change." Based on our 2+ hour stay, the $4 fee just about covered the cost for our food server, but not the cooks or other staff. Maybe some day SF residents will revolt and restore common sense to their city -- if they don't continue to move away instead. read more

My family and I visited pacific catch last Sunday. We arrived for our reservation. 9 people in total. So it wasn't a small party. The staff was trying kick us out about 1hr 30 min in. And that's not it. The plates they gave us were dirty, the service was non existent I had flag down waiters and waitresses. The manager claims we spent 4 hours there ... not true and completely false. That being said the food was okay, nothing to rave home about, but the service is why I'm not going back. I don't know if it was a racial thing but my family and I definitely stood out amongst the crowd. I expect better from a restaurant in San Francisco. read more
