Today was the first time I went to this restaurant. When I entered, I greeted with a very nice smiling face from the staff. One of the waiters directed me to a side and asked me to sit. I asked her if it is possible for her to seat me somewhere else. All the guests of the restaurant were sitting on the other side and the part where the server asked me to sit was completely empty and I felt that I should sit and eat in isolation. Even though the other side had some empty tables for 2 people, that girl apologized to me and said she could not give me those seats. It was a surprise to me !!! The food I ordered was three pieces of fish with fried potatoes. When they brought the food, the pieces of fish were very, very small. For the price I had to pay, the amount of food was really small . Huge portion of fried potatoes but small pieces of fish . The taste of the food was very ordinary and did not impress me at all. Most likely, I will not go to this restaurant for the second time since I did not have a pleasant experience. Especially since the table she gave me was in a part where no customers were seated. We ordered Cabo Calamari and Ceviche Trio: (original ahi, shrimp and ahi serrano) with Island Mule and Margarita - they were all a-OK except the Oiginal Ahi was a bit salty. The Island mule was made of some passionfruit syrup, little bit sweet but it was fine. Our main courses were: Wagyu Beef Burger, Poke Chirashi plate and kid's Salmon Teriyaki + Elote Corn on the side. The Poke Chirashi plate for me was good. I finished all and just left the rice coz it's too much. Ahi Serrano mix was always the best for us. We noticed that the kid's menu for that day on the fish was a bit small. The last visit was bigger. Wagyu beef burger was tender and moist. Our dessert was the cheesecake rolls with ice cream. I tried two items recently added to the menu: both were terrible: the clam chowder and the California Lobster Roll, which apparently is created simply by adding a few slices of avocado (to the excessively bready roll and the not very numerous bits of lobster). Always treated spectacularly, never have to ask for anything. Staff is attentive & friendly. I've tried almost everything on the menu (I'm pescatarian) & left completely satisfied . The restaurant can get pretty crowded & lively in the late afternoon & a down right party in the evening! Parking can be troublesome in the later afternoon however lunch can be a pleasant treat, not crowded at all. Most seating areas are comfortable for 4 people, lots of room with a comfortable atmosphere & good lighting. Dining out is what I miss most because of ambience, getting fresh air, not having to clean and fresh food right when it's cooked. This place has a revamped improved menu. The last time I was here was almost 10 years ago but definitely a spot I'd go back because they finally have a nice outdoor patio. If you want a model for how to cover all possible customer needs for COVID and 2020, please drive by Pacific Catch on 9th (I am sure the Chestnut location is crushing it as well, but all I can say is "wow"). 1. They converted their parking lot into a socially-distanced, multi-tiered, outdoor dining mecca (can't wait for outdoor dining to reopen). You can enter if you are driving northbound on Lincoln after passing 9th Avenue. When outdoor dining does come back (a) woohoo, it'll mean we're all behaving and our numbers are going down and we're getting a handle on COVID and (b) make your reservations EARLY. let's just say Pac Catch brunches are popular, largely thanks to this outdoor dining production that is also nicely tucked away from the winds that usually whips up from the Outer Sunset. 2. Pacific Catch also converted street space on 9th to outdoor dining if that's more your style, and they have fully separated areas for in-person ordering and paying (9th Ave. main entrance), and two separate windows on Lincoln for to-go order pick-up. 3. PC have been rolling out amazing daily specials (get on their email list!) with wonderful savings on everything from rice bowls to sushi lunches (today) which really help anyone still hanging on here in the City and trying to save for that emergency InstaCart order of toilet paper. 4. The staff are almost impossibly happy. Whether it's when I call in or pay, pick up food or have trouble using my gift card, they are a delight to talk to (and that's not just because they also make killer to-go drinks, but it helps). 5. Keep an eye out as well for great gift card promotions, i think my Mom and Dad have bought over 20 of these during COVID so you can imagine just how many times I have picked up Pac Catch on the way home from work this year... just kidding, I'm just happy Mom and Dad are eating so healthy right now. 6. if you are picking up, there is a wonderful stretch of spots carved out on Lincoln just north of the MUNI shelter (just make sure you only pull in and flip on your hazards for as much time as it takes to run out and grab your order from the window). As we used to say at the top of ski jumps, this is a "no posing" zone. We were really hungry the night we came here so I will try to keep my review as fair as possible. I think this place is just a little below a true 4-stars. Why I say that is because the poke bowl we got wasn't really cohesive. The bowl had many components to it, kind of just throw together randomly. I did however like the portion of the it. It was definitely enough to share among two people (we got two portions of protein on it and it was perfect). We also got an order of 3 tacos (I think they were tilapia, salmon, and shrimp). I enjoyed the sauce on the shrimp taco the best. The other two were just okay (I've had better). For $17 I assumed they would be much better...it's SF though so I wasn't too shocked on the price. The fries that came with the tacos were a nice touch (fry lover over here). We asked them to be seasoned and they were crispy and good. Wow! I was not totally expecting the completely delightful experience we had tonight. We had wonderfully warning miso soup, with wild mushrooms and generous tofu. This was followed by a mixed grill for two, with a generous seafood serving and three side of our choice (shishito peppers, broccolini, and elote style corn. I had a slightly sweet and refreshing Manhattan to drink. Our table all shared a delicious brownie sundae topped with a coconut crumble ice cream. They even provide hand sanitizer and sunblock for diners. We ordered the poke, sticky ribs, and fish entree. All were good but I personally enjoyed the appetizers more than the entree. The Poke is served with house-made tortilla chips, the poke tasted very fresh! The ribs were tasty and I wish the portion size was bigger but I understand that it's only an appetizer. The service was excellent. If you do not wish to dine in the tiki area, there is also outside seating along the side of the restaurant. We stopped by this establishment to get something to eat after our visit to the Californa Academy of Science. We were seated immediately and handed our menus. The setting was very nice and we were also able to snag a window seat. I ordered the Grilled salmon sandwich and it came with fries (regular, seasoned or sweet potato) and some Brussel slaw. The salmon was grilled just how I like it, with a nice char on the fish (I know weird but I dig it). The bread it was served with very good also. Didn't get too mushy while I was eating. There was also avocado in the sandwich. The slaw was interesting I never had Brussel slaw before but it was very good. The seasoned fries, however, were a bit too salty for me. Honestly want to come here on a weekly basis now! Ive liked Pacific Catch for a couple years because the quality of food and service have been consistently high. My partner and I love to dine out and it has been sorely missed- take out just isnt the same! I was giddy when I read in Sfgate that Pacific Catch had invested ~$70k (!!!) to repurpose their 1500 sqft parking lot into a safe outdoor dining area with private booths. We went for a late lunch yesterday and felt like we'd died and gone to heaven. The beautiful tiki parklet is tucked back from the street but once inside you forget that there is a busy intersection mere feet away. The booths are lovely, with bamboo and plexiglass providing safety and privacy from other booths, attractive canopies providing shade, and live plants for decoration. My partner is admitedly very paranoid and anxious re: covid but he noted that he felt totally at ease with the setup and precautions clearly taken. The servers were all so genuinely friendly and amazing, the whole staff really works together to make sure people have what they want and are enjoying themselves. The food and drinks were delicious as usual! They even have a gluten free menu which was helpful. If you're missing dining out but safety is your top concern, this is a great spot. As much as Id hate to let the 'secret' out, I know there are people who could really use this nice experience. Just remember to tip BIG, these people deserve it! read more

I visited this seafood spot next to the GG park since I was in the area. If you happen to have a car in this city, there is street parking or a small lot next to the building. They have either bar, outdoor (heaters available), or indoor seating. I opted for the bar area. I ordered the salmon poke and the crab louie cocktail. The poke comes in a small bowl you might typically put salsa in. I'll give them credit though, it's mostly all fish...no filler at the bottom like I'm used to in Texas. Looks small, but with the wonton chips it can be filling. The crab louie was even better and had a good amount of shredded crab (dungeoness and blue crab). Overall, I'd like to come back again and try some other dishes, like the oysters....or their entrees. This is one of those restaurants just seems to have customers almost all day long. read more

Have been pass by Pacific Catch many many years as the restaurant located right at one of the main exit of the Golden Gate Park but never have chance to go to this restaurant because of the heavy traffic and hard to find parking in that area even though they have a small parking lot on the side. Yes, this area is super hard to find parking!! This is our first time here, the restaurant have inside and patio seating with heaters on. Nice ambiance with cool ceiling lights. Have bar section, table or booth section. Clean toilet. I have read some reviews from other Yelpers that stated the service was not good. This time we didn't have that experience. When we walked in to the restaurant, the host already greeted us and bring us to the table. The first table was near the front entrance and we feel a bit cold and the host responded right away and quickly moved us to a another table and passed us the menus and introduced us to the daily special. Our server came to our table right after the host walked away. He greeted us and answer my questions with recommendation to the menu. We ordered Ahi Tuna Poke with half rice and half salad, Grilled Hawaiian Opah with Curry Cauliflower and Grilled Brussels Sprouts, and we also added a side of the Sweet Potato Fries. All YUMMILICIOUS! Ahi Tuna Poke: we ordered regular size. Good portion for two to share. The Ahi Tuna is very fresh and marinated well. The dish is served with half rice and half fresh green salad. Topped with lots of Japanese pickled ginger (a bit too much) and seaweed salad. For the Opah dish, this is our first time trying the Hawaiian Opah. White fish, rough, I personally not a fan of this fish. But the sauce, Asian .... sauce (forgot the name, very good). I don't intend for this to sound like a slight, but I always seem to forget about Pacific Catch. Whether it's because they've been around for so long or because I've b een here so many times, it's gotten to the point now where they just kind of fade into the background for me. Which might explain why, despite all of those trips here, I've still never written a review for these guys! Although, I could've sworn I wrote something about them at some point over the years... While the place is starting to show a bit of its age (though they did convert part of their entry way into an outdoor seating area with a fire pit), Pacific Catch hasn't let its menu get outdated. Along with expanding the choices for their long time staples (rice bowls, fried seafood, fish-centric entrees, sushi rolls, etc.), they also keep a rotation of daily chalkboard specials and added a "raw bar" menu, which features varieties of ceviche, poke, taktaki, platters/towers, and more. Given how many times I've been here, I've been able to try a number of things on their menu, so I'd like to think I have a pretty good sense of them overall. From their appetizers and fish tacos to their fish & chips and daily chalkboard specials, the food at Pacific Catch is generally pretty fresh...except for all of their fried stuff, like their Mixed Catch plate that my buddy likes). However, whether it's been when I've dined in or when I used to get takeout, I usually end up getting the same thing every time - their JAPANESE WASABI BOWL with Poke ($16.50). Filled with Seaweed Salad, Avocado, Daikon Salad, Ginger, Sesame Seeds, Shredded Nori, and Soy-Wasabi Sauce, this isn't bad, but lacking compared to what you can get from poke joints. While their poke (tuna) is generally pretty fresh, everything else is hit or miss. The seaweed salad and avocado are good, but I'm not a fan of their daikon salad and the sauce is just okay (I personally prefer ponzu-based ones). What's more, the rice can be a little inconsistent (can be overcooked). Despite how their food may not strike me like how it used to, I certainly appreciate how steady and consistent Pacific Catch has been. From my first trip here, to the time we sat at their bar and watched the Giants clinch the 2014 World Series, to this most recent trip, the food hasn't changed much, for better or worse. Still, it's nice that whenever I do come back, they're (probably) going to be as reliable as ever! read more

The poke is excellent and the beer selections are good. I love the ambiance of both SF and SM. SF has a great SF feel with Golden Gate Park literally across the street. The parking is not convenient but it's the city so anywhere in SF you will find a hard place to park. SM has a good downtown SM vibe and outdoor seating. The closest thing to Hawaiian seafood without flying to Hawaii. One of my favorite place to eat when I'm craving seafood. Never had any issues with the staff always super cool at both SM and SF. The creative and extensive menu is filled with interesting options like a Pupu Platter, Pokes, Ceviches, several fish choices atop Ramen, bowls of rice, grains, and greens, a fish taco bar, fish and chips, and sushi/sushi tacos! I could go on, but I'll stop to describe my luck at choosing the absolute yummiest under the list of Bowls of Grains & Greens: WESTCOAST STYLE WITH GRILLED SALMON Grilled salmon, roasted cauliflower, avocado, marinated cucumber, radish salad, cilantro-pepita pesto, soy-tahini drizzle, Base: 1/2 brown rice-quinoa blend, 1/2 mixed organic greens This was so delicious that I told myself that I will return at least once per month to get this exact dish. AGAIN with the tiny portion size and this time on a $27 meal. I cook fish a lot for myself, and I know what it costs--even the REALLY EXPENSIVE fish (which this isn't) doesn't account for these small portion sizes--it's like 1/4 of a regular fillet. In addition, I ordered "Kimchee fried rice" as my side. Not only was it not "Fried Rice", there was no discernable Kimchee anywhere--it was basically just white rice with some pink mayonnaise sauce on it (I thnk they're trying to capitalize on the whole "fermented foods" craze happening now, but clearly nobody there knows how to prepare it). I also ordered it WITHOUT CILANTRO and you guessed it--cilantro. Lastly, The person at the pay station saw that I was next in line, and as soon as I walked up to the kiosk he looked at me and said "someone else will help you" and just walked off. Well, nobody else helped me, so I stood there for a good three minutes before someone noticed. Now it seems relevant... if the front of house is allowed to be as distracted as possible I'm guessing the kitchen is as well. My wife ordered the sea bass with green beans and Brussels sprouts. I got the shrimp and steak. My wife now has aggressive food poisoning, called the restaurant simply to ask them to check their storage and cross contamination to prevent any potential future contaminations, and haven't heard back (also couldn't reach anyone on the phone hence this review). We may be going to the ER if it persists. (I ate some of her green beans but none of her fish or Brussel sprouts) The hostess who took my order was on her phone absent minded when I walked in. I placed my order and sat down at the bar to wait. Bartenders didn't even offer a cup of water and also didn't converse or say anything which is fine but definitely not hospitable. Sat for approx 15-20 mins. My food came out and I watched it get placed in front of the hostess who ignored it for a few minutes while still on her phone. I got up and walked over to ask her if that was my order and she hadn't even looked up. Then acted surprised that the food had been sitting in front of her. The flavors are good. There was a side of wasabi and ginger but no soy sauce in sight,We didn't even bother. Ahi tuna bomb: tuna was really good, rice was soggy, tofu skin was overly flavored and soggy. Edamame: well you can't really go wrong with edamames, salt flakes on top was a nice touch. We also order the Mix grill for 2 (kanpachi, salmon) with shrimp, we also added a steak on the side, with crab mash, kimchi fried rice +egg and fries. the fresh catch with sea bass, kimchi fried rice and Broccolini All 3 pieces of fish was super burnt, you can taste more grill than you can fish. Shrimp was not too bad. The mash potato had no crab or crab taste (aside from that it was pretty good in flavor and texture for plain mash). The fries and steak came out super late we had to ask the server to check on it and it came out when we were halfway done with our meal. Fries were overly salty (but hot and fresh) steak is not a steak it tasted good in terms of carne asada if that's the flavor you are going for, but as a steak that was a no bueno. Kimchi fried rice+egg: egg was cooked perfectly. rice was soggy no kimchi taste (if you're Asian I would describe the taste as the sour cabbage you get in the rice noodle soups at the Szechuan restaurants) And the last thing broccolini: It was overly salty, most of it was overly riped/mature rough non edible. Including the skinnier pieces Presentation was great. Texture horrible. Final words of advice. If you have expectation for asian/fusion food. I do not recommend. Pacific Catch has raised its prices greatly, like every other restaurant. Tonight I stopped in and bought the salmon dinner tonight as takeout. Thirty dollars. The salmon was dry and tasteless, the Brussels sprouts were nearly raw, so hard they may as well have been raw. There was a small paper cup in the box, with five tablespoons of mashed potatoes. (I measured.). They tasted good, what there was but the texture was definitely like instant potatoes from a box. That was it. Oh, right, a half lemon. Had a Margarita while I waited...smallest one I've ever been served. Lots and lots of ice. I won't be going there again. read more

7/12/2020 Quarantine Day 118 My boyfriend wanted to take me to Pacific Catch since he said that his experience was really great at the San Mateo location, so we decided to go to the one in San Francisco. As everyone knows, parking around the Irving area can be really hard. We got SUPER lucky and was able to park a block away; even during SIP there were lots of cars and people out shopping or getting food. When we got to the restaurant, we asked for a table of two and the hostess told us that there is a 20-30 minute wait. We said we would be okay with waiting so she took one of our phone numbers to contact when 20-30 minutes had passed. I believe the hostess forgot about us since we were not contacted back for an open table. When we came back in 20 minutes, she looked at us like she had never seen us before. She seemed confused when I told her that we were there 20 minutes earlier and had asked for a table. We were seated outside at the table closest to the street intersection. The hostess left without giving us our menus so I had to go ask another staff to give us menus. After we had decided on what to order, it took 10 minutes for the waiter to come take our order and he didn't realize that we were missing our utensils nor did he ask us if we needed any water/drinks until after we had mentioned it. Here's what we ordered: 1. Cabo Calamari (share) 2. Guacamole and chips (share) 3. Lobster roll with cole slaw (mine) 4. Wagyu burger with a side of Sweet Potato Fries (his) Food came out relatively quick. Between the two appetizers, I would have to pick the guac and chips over the cabo calamari. The guac and chips were really fresh; chips were crunchy like chips should be and the guacamole (though seasoned simply) was delicious. In comparison, the calamari seemed somewhat soggy, not as crunchy as it should be. If anyone orders the lobster, just letting you know that they serve it cold; I was expecting it to be served warm or at least room temperature. I honestly think I would have enjoyed it better if it was warm, but the taste of the lobster roll overall was good. The flavors were simple and fresh. The wagyu burger was good; it was juicy and very filling. The sweet potato fries were a delight because they were super light and not greasy. What turned me off was quality of their service; it was lackluster and needs improvement. A significant reduction of diners should not equate in reducing the quality of service. If I came back, I think I would give them a second chance when things go back to normal. read more

Take out is horrible.! On three different occasions when I ordered food to go I had to wait 25 minutes. When I brought the food home it was cold. On a separate occasion I ordered food to go and again I had to wait approx 25 minutes. This time Before going home I thought it wise to check to see if my food was hot. It was Cold. I wanted to cancel my order since I was so frustrated. The manager showed no remorse, She did the transaction but without an apology or some form of compensation for poor service. Went here for dinner on Friday night and it was great. Here's why: First of all, there's a parking lot which is unheard of in the Sunset area unless you're a super market or a drug store. We found a spot as soon as we pulled in. Next, the restaurant was so lively and bustling. I just loved the atmosphere from the get go. It was busy on a Friday night and the wait was long but they told us there was space at the bar so the two of us took a seat and skipped the entire line. We didn't order any alcohol but the bartender was definitely entertaining to watch. Free show/entertainment with dinner and no line?! Already a good start to the meal. We ordered tacos (traditional Baja, Mahi Mahi, and cabo shrimp), the Hawaiian poke appetizer, and the Korean bbq rice bowl. The poke was a great wonderful mix of flavor although a tad on the saltier side. The fish was fresh and a nice texture that was not too mushy or chewy. Of the tacos, my favorite was the cabo shrimp as that one was moist and juicy while the other two tacos were a bit on the drier side which makes sense given that it was fish. The Kbbq bowl was huge and had a lot of rice. The meat on the bowl was delicious although I did find the sweet egg quite odd. The meal took a while to come out due to some unknown reason but the manager noticed and comped our appetizer so great customer service there. The bartender was super nice too. I ordered the grilled salmon, roasted cauliflower and Thai brussels smothered in a golden turmeric sauce. I have tried to recreate this sauce at home and NOTHING compares! It's really that good. My boyfriend ordered the fish tacos (which you can choose three different kinds) The service was good as well and I enjoyed the outside seating. I have yet to try the tiki patio but already have a planned date in my calendar! read more
