There was a recall on my vehicle, and because I have had some poor encounters with dealership service departments, I did some research. I decided to call Packey Webb Ford Service Department in Downers Grove. The gentleman I spoke with was knowledgeable about the recall and accommodated an appointment that fit my schedule. I called the day before the appointment to find out how long the appointment would take and was told an hour to an hour and a half. When I arrived at the dealership service department, they had all of my information and showed me the waiting area while offering refreshments of bottled water or coffee. After I sat down I realized I should probably have an oil change done as well. The Service Advisor joked and said it could not be done because he had completed the paperwork already----a sense of humor is always welcome! Much to my surprise, the service on my vehicle was completed in less than an hour. I appreciated the advice they gave me when the next oil change would be due. In addition, they washed my vehicle which was an added surprise. Of course I also received a report card on my vehicle which we know all Service Departments practice. Future visits will predict my trust and a five star rating. read more

My wife and I had hoped to buy a Ford Explorer, went for a test drive and all seemed good. Went back to the dealer and they didn't have one in stock, this was on a Saturday. The salesman said we found one in MI and could have it here on Wednesday, that came and went (oh the car was sold on us), I have a line on 2 more back in MI should have one here on Friday (oh they aren't answering our emails and phone calls). Sorry no car for you. Come down and pick-up you check. I said no please mail it back to me. They had our contact information. But wait, what did they do after telling me that the other dealers aren't answering they phones and emails, they cashed my check - instead of mailing it. I talked to their controller Chris, 'it's our policy to cash those checks.' Hmm, salesman was going to mail it corporate converts the check. So, after calling a couple of times, was told it was mailed - only after I chased it down, even though Chris was going to call and let me know - he didn't. So based on my experience, stay away from this dealership. Truthfulness and ethics seem to be a problem for them. read more

I purchased my truck from Packey Webb in November 2010. It was a long experience, but everyone was very nice. Since then, I have brought my vehicle there for all of its oil changes. I have not felt pressured to have extra things done, and they even let me know about a broken hose that could be fixed under my warranty. My windshield got cracked last summer and they replaced it at a better price than I had been quoted from other places. I would definitely recommend them to others. read more

I recently bought a car from Packey Webb after totaling our old car in an accident. We loved our old car so we searched high and low for the same model to replace it. Although Packey Webb was in another state and 3 hours away, we felt it was worth the drive so we made an offer and was very clear that our offer included all fees and sales tax. Our offer was accepted and we put a deposit down on a Friday. My husband advised the sales rep that we have financing through our credit union and we would get the check on Monday and be down there to pick it up Monday afternoon. Monday morning, our credit union called us to tell us that they received the contract from Packey but it did not include any sales tax in the contract to be paid by them. After calling Packey, I was told that because they are in a different state than us, our state is not a "reciprocating state" and they are unable to pay the sales tax and register it, we would have to do so at our DMV in our state. While I understand that they are not able to bypass laws, I was concerned that they sent a contract over that was not our agreement without discussing it and it felt like it was a bit sketchy. I was tempted to pull out right then and there but I went against my better judgement because we needed to replace our family car ASAP. We talked through it with a sales rep and they agreed to send a check to cover the sales tax in the mail with the title so they did rectify it and we moved on and chalked it up to a misunderstanding. In the conversation about sales tax, I felt I made it clear again that we were going to the bank to get the check and then heading down to pick up the car. We arrived at the dealer about 4 hours later and they were very surprised of our arrival. They said they were not expecting us that day...another concern but again, chalked it up to a misunderstanding. Due to us being a "surprise", it was very clear the car was not detailed. I was annoyed by this but I'm buying a used car to transport 4 children around, the car will get messy fast anyways so I didn't even bring it up because we needed to head back home and were on a time crunch. On our way home, we also realized that the rear-view camera was not working, another frustration but the car still has a bumper to bumper warranty so we planned to just take it to the ford dealer near us to get fixed (we know we should have been more conscious of these things and checked it all out before leaving the dealer but we relied on the reputation of the dealership to not give us a vehicle that is not in its best condition, lesson learned). We had the car for 4 days when it wouldn't start. This caused us to miss important appointments and to be late to work. I understand we bought a used car but we still paid a lot of money (to us at least) and I don't think it's unrealistic to expect a car that only has 30,000 miles and still under the full manufacture warranty to be reliable. After going back and forth with our Ford dealership and Packey about whether we had a warranty (to be fair, the issue wasn't with Packey in this instance but it still just added to the overall frustration) we made an appointment to have the starting issues and rear-view camera fixed. The car ended up needing a new starter, wiring and a module. We finally got the car back after four days. We were told by Packey that our title and check for the sales tax was to be delivered to us on Wednesday. On Friday, we called and left a message at 2pm telling them that we have not received it and asked that they call us back. They did not. I called today and was told that the person that I needed to talk to about the missing title and check is not in on the weekends. At that point, I became very frustrated and explained that we had called yesterday and no one responded. The person then said she would look into it and placed me on hold and then hung up on me. There has been no attempt to call me back so I can only assume the hang up was on purpose. I was planning on waiting to post this review until after everything was resolved in hopes that Packey would redeem themselves but that does not seem likely. After all this, I would not recommend this dealership and am very dissatisfied with the way everything has been handled. Not one person at Packey has took any ownership, we are constantly being sent to random voice mails and clearly pushed off as an inconvenience. If you want a car that may just end up being a pretty lawn ornament because it doesn't start and you can't register it, buy from Packey Webb. I will also be contacting the Illinois Attorney General to file a complaint because at this point, I am unsure if I will be able to register this car and use it as the TITLE IS MISSING! read more

I made an appointment with Packey Webb Ford to take my 2013 Ford Escape in for the umpteenth recall notice. I asked the lady who made the appointment if I could have a loaner car due to having to take my kids to school and get to work. She assured me I would have a loaner car and said she made a note of it. I arrived for my appointment with my daughter and was informed by the service employee that they didn't have any loaners available. He said we could have a rental car for you in 30-45 minutes. In most cases this wouldn't be an issue but due to schedules, school and work, it made it impossible. The frustrating part is I went over this with the scheduler twice and yet they still messed it up. If they knew they were out of loaners, why wasn't a rental car available/waiting at the dealership? Since then, no word of apology, call, text, e-mail from the dealership. Skip Packey Webb and head to another Ford dealership (Elmhurst or others). read more

This place is untrustworthy, dishonest, and uninterested in correcting their mistakes. We purchased a "certified" pre-owned vehicle from this dealership. The previous operator had it as a lease and only put a 5k or so miles on it. A year and a half later, the vehicle wouldn't start and we had it towed to a nearby Ford dealer who determined the vehicle had after market wiring that wasn't capped off properly and damaged the fuel pump shut-off system. The rear hull was also damaged likely from whoever installed/uninstalled whatever was attached to the wiring. This poor wiring was immediately obvious when checked, and should have easily been found in the 172 point inspection that vehicle allegedly underwent. We incurred hundreds of dollars in repair costs because the vehicle was not in the condition we were told it was in. It could have easily been resolved with two cents worth of electrical tape. If the car wasn't "certified" we would have had it inspected ourselves. We contacted Packey Webb - they were both unprofessional and unconcerned. When we first contacted them, we were told we would get a call back in 10 minutes. Unsurprisingly, we didn't receive a call. The next day I called back and I talked with two people before being transferred to the sales manager Keith Sponburgh's voicemail. Keith never called me back, but the salesman who originally sold us the vehicle, Abdul Mohammed, did call back. I explained him the situation and to quote him: "I don't know what you want me to do, I just work here." While that is a fair point, it is totally opposite to the tone he had before we bought the vehicle. He told me I could talk to a manager, but they would probably tell me the same thing as he relayed to me what he was instructed to say by his manager. While I appreciate it when people are understanding or professional, I don't expect or require it. However, when someone talks like this instead of the countless other ways they could have approached the situation, I can only draw the conclusion that they aren't really concerned with the problem or their reputation. I would never recommend this dealership. read more

They never fail me. I recently had to have a ball joint replaced on my car and they were so helpful and thorough with their service. They don't give you songs and dances, they tell you straight if something needs to be fixed right away or if it can wait. Most places make you panic telling you it needs to be repaired ASAP. I purchased a vehicle from this place in March thinking I would have a good experience and it was trash! in may the car broke down on the expressway with my kids in the car! had it towed to them they couldn't even figure out what was going on they had to send it to another location beca the engine locked and it had oil in it!!!!! thank god I had warranty because it wasn't even time for an oil change yet! the starter went out had to pay for that out of pocket because they wouldn't cover it!!!the air conditioning compressor doesn't work which means me and my kids have to ride in a hot car with leather seats because they refuse to fix it which wasnt working when I purchased the car I gave them 8k they sold me a piece of crap they knew the engine was going out and the air doesn't work !!! i have been leaving messages with upper management i haven't gotten a call back yet it's been a month I do not recommend this place they are fraudulent and very unprofessional! My go to guy is Charles Franz. Because of the accommodating nature of Charles, the quality of Ford and attentiveness of the Service team I will never go anywhere else. I have done business with Packey Webb Ford for the last 35 years both service and purchases. However, Now that they have a new building I believe they are trying to pay for it quickly with service. I took my car in for an oil change and a thump in the rear end when I let off the brake. They diagnosed the thump as a bad caliper and there was a bad transmission mount. They also started adding extras like change the brake fluid and clean the battery terminal. I felt it was really high pressure for the "little extras". I believe it was $35 or $40 to clean the battery terminals. Total would have been $2,200 if I had been stupid enough to have them do the work. I got the transmission mount and the caliper changed for $440 at a local garage. The sales people have always been great. Ernie and Kevin are great people. I have known them for years and bought a few cars from them. It's a shame that service is so bad. Because of this experience I will never go to this place again. read more

I was looking for a new F-150 and looked at Packey Webb Ford. I wouldn't recommend shopping here. The offer I received on my trade was very good but when I called back the offer dropped by 3k. The numbers also didn't add up with the way prices are listed on there site of course they say there's fine print. I ended up buying a new truck from Wickstrom Ford in Barrington who I highly recommend. There numbers were spot on with there site and trade in was great. This review is for my father, a retire on a limited income. He bought a CMax from Packey Webb Ford and had a good experience with the purchase and sales person. He really likes the car and the gas mileage he gets. With the car purchase, he wanted a roof rails (not a rack or cross bars) installed and had Packey Webb Ford order the one he requested and install it. When the parts came in, he took the car to the service department for installing. When it came out, it wasn't the roof rack he asked for. Now they are telling him they won't give the full amount back due to restocking fee, etc. IT WAS THEIR ERROR and they are expecting a retiree to pay for their error. This is pathetic service. It's been 3 months now and they are doing NOTHING to fix this. Very, very poor service. We expect a resolution to this soon. Update: A family member went to Packey Webb Ford to discuss what was going on. They came to an agreement of little more than 1/2 of the total cost. They were not budging at all saying they called several times (which my father says the didn't)...even though they never told him that Roof Rails don't even come on the CMax! Seems like they assumed when he said rails, they just thought the roof rack, ordered it and put it on. Still very poor service. read more

I bought my 2016 Escape here and have taken it here for all maintenance service. Two oil changes ago I noticed a road noise that seemed to be coming from the tires. They told me they did not find anything wrong. The noise continued and I mentioned it at the next oil change at 35k miles. I was told I needed 4 new tires at over $1,000. They said my tires were cupping due to needing an alignment. Seems to me this should have been something they could have prevented if they had been properly maintaining my vehicle that I was bringing in every 5,000 miles. Also they wanted $55 to change a cabin air filter. Seems excessive. I told them no thanks and took my Escape to another tire shop. The man there told me if I could stand the noise, I should be able to get another 10,000 miles out of them. He also quoted me a price of $700 for new tires. After my service at PW, I got a text message asking if I was pleased with the service, I replied I was not and why and never heard another word. And be advised, they offer their customers a $20 credit on their next service if they post good reviews. read more

DO NOT BUY A USED CAR FROM THIS DEALER. I bought a used 2002 Ford Ranger from Packey Webb. I chose them because I thought they were a reputable name in the area and would do a suitable job inspecting the vehicle before selling it. I was wrong. The car I bought broke down after the second time driving it (I had driven it less than 20 miles in total), drained all of its coolant and I had to get towed. When I called Packey Webb to ask if they would cover the service of the vehicle, I was told that I bought the car AS-IS and I was out of luck. You do not want to do business with these people. They will do anything to make a buck. They either sell cars they know are bad and don't care if they screw the buyer, or they don't inspect the cars they sell. Take your pick. You should not trust any used car that comes off their lot. They obviously do not stand behind the products they sell or the quality of their own inspections. They took my information down schedule an appointment and when I take off of work to bring the car in the service advisor told me that they don't have mechanics able to work on my car and not sure why the appointment was scheduled. Like many people, the thought of going into a dealership and purchasing a new car was something we didn't look forward to. I have to say, from the time we walked in, it was a pleasant experience. We picked out a car online and set up a time to look at it. It was ready when we came in, and within ten minutes we were on a test drive. Our salesman Eric, was very knowledgeable and friendly and able to answer all of our questions and explain all the features of the car. He spent time with us pairing our phones and walking us through all the details of the touchscreen. Everyone we met was courteous and knowledgeable and easy to talk with.
