I was the at Smart and Final, right next to the 24 hour gym, go figure trying to eat healthy. So, I go pick up some sushi on a Saturday night to try to treat myself after a workout and a long week. I go to the Pada Sushi area, because they have fresh food and let's be honest decent price for good quality. I have been a longtime customer; I buy their stuff all the time, for like the last 4+ years. This time, I saw they had deal of the day, it's a fat red tag, that is a couple bucks off some of their specialty items, and I am like yes!!!! super excited. There were multiple ones, so I picked 2 plates. One had tuna and salmon, and I was like yeah, getting this. I am thinking should I get the other looks like a crunchy roll not sure or should I just stick with the usual California roll non red tag. Since the fat red tag was literally on the menu, while I was holding both red tag items, I started to peel the tag to actually see the menu because it's a specialty item, I don't know what it is. Not thinking anything of it, thinking hey I just want to know what I am buying or what it is. As soon as I start to peal the red tag, all I heard was: "SIR, SIR, SIR, why are you changing the price tags, you are changing the price tags... in the middle of the store, people looking at me like I am stealing or doing something completely wrong ." At this point and time, I know cameras are everywhere, I never switched any price tags, and the only thing I was holding in my hands were two deal of the days (both same price of 12.95) and a Caesar salad. The other option in my head was a California roll which was 7.95, so why would I even wish to pay 12.95 for an item that is 7.95. It would have been a different story if I was trying to switch the California roll price tag, but that wasn't even in my hands, and I have never done that. The thing that really got to me was she accused me of doing something she literally didn't see me do, and who ever put the tag on the sushi is negligent. 1. WHY WOULD LITERALLY PUT THE RED TAG ON THE MENU THAT COVERS WHAT YOU ARE SELLING AKA THE TYPE OF ROLL, I took pictures if need be. 2. WHY WOULD YOU ACCUSE ME OF DOING SOMETHING I DIDN"T DO. SHE WAS LIETRALLY IN THE STORE, NOT YELLING BUT LOUD ENOUGH FOR PEOPLE TO TURN AROUND AND SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON, WITHOUT ANY EVIDENCE. I FELT SO EMBRAASSED AND WRONGED. I take the plate of sushi, I told her how can you tell what this is? she starts to explain its this type of roll, it has this and this, and I tried to explain to her, guess what, your red tag is covering the roll, you work in the industry, you know it, perhaps you even made it, but me as the customer, I don't know what this is..... I was trying to figure out what it was before you accused me of switching labels, (without evidence I will add). So, now, this sucks, because of her judgement and accusation, I don't even want to buy this sushi and now I question if I should even go to the Smart and Final after the gym to get food, showing up all sweaty in gym clothes being labeled as the guy that was "switching tags" when that was never the case over customer service and their negligent act, like really you are covering the type of roll it is. I am really hoping they make this right. read more

Surprisingly, the spicy crunch roll is really good here. For $7.5, the portion is good. The sauce is more like sweet n spicy Chinese egg roll dipping sauce. I have no idea what the crunchy toppers are, but they are so crunchy and delicious. It reminds me of Vietnamese fried onion and scallions. I just love all the combinations together. Don't be fooled people! The sushi/california rolls from here still taste like sushi from a grocery store. The 8 California rolls were $3.95; The 8 California rolls with a thin slice of tuna on top was $7.95. With the 5 star ratings by all 8 reviewers for Pada Sushi, I had high hopes. The California rolls had a slightly bitter taste. The tuna sashimi was very light pink (not dark pink)... Good news: no tendons and no fishiness. Bad news: no tuna taste. In fact, you can't even guess what kind of sushi you are eating because it had not much flavor at all. For the same $11, I could have taken out Tekka Don (High Quality Tuna sashimi in a bowl of rice) along with soup and salad at Sushi Koyo in Diamond Bar during lunch time. Damn it. It's not very good. I decided to try it because of the reviews. Each roll is about 8 bucks. That's kinda what you'd get at a restaurant. Also, pretty skimpy on the fish and too much rice. It tasted reasonably fresh. To be fair, the sushi is maybe a low 3 star but if you're comparing this to an actual restaurant it's definitely a 2 star. I won't be coming back. read more

I was so impressed by their specialty rolls, especially their CRUNCHY DRAGON roll (shrimp tempura roll topped with spicy tuna) and the RAINBOW ROLL (cali roll topped with colorful sashimi). Yum! The prices are totally reasonable and the sushi is seriously TOP GRADE. It's just so convenient! Plus, since they're made fresh daily, you're guaranteed to get the freshest sushi and rolls. Since I love sushi, I've kind of learned to appreciate the different qualities for the purposes they serve. I'm not always craving super fancy, one piece at a time sushi. There's times where its nice just to be able to walk in, grab a couple quick rolls with decent amounts of fish, head home and chow down in front of the tv or something. Pada in Albertsons serves this exact purpose, and I'm kind of glad that it's here, rather than being snobby about it like I thought I might haha. The rolls are good size and quality, the sushi chef will actually talk to you and answer questions you have about the rolls, its pretty affordable for rolls and the amount you get, plus its CONVENIENT. Can't stress that enough, I think its rare/hard to find a nice combination of convenience and decent quality like this especially with sushi, but Pada has done it. Yay for them, I shall return here eventually haha Also, you pay for the food at the normal registers just like anything else you'd buy at Albertsons (this is for all of you who can't figure it out just like me... Located in the Albertsons supermarket off of Grand Avenue and Diamond Bar Blvd., so it's very easy to find. The sushi rolls here are just O.K. Decent tasting for supermarket sushi, but I definitely don't prefer it. There are a few varieties of packaged sushi rolls available for purchase, and if you desire, you can ask the sushi chef behind the counter to make you a set of fresh rolls, nigiri sushi, or whatever you want from the menu. The wait probably won't be too long and the sushi will be much more fresh than the ones already prepared and packaged. Overall, the positive things about this place are: It's convenient, nice variety of diff items, good prices (from $4.95 to $11.95, average price around $8 for the already packaged items), tastes ok for supermarket sushi. I don't understand why this place has some bad reviews. Seriously, how can you expect superb quality restaurant sushi from ALBERTSON'S? I absolutely love the convenience, not to mention the sushi chef is super friendly. The rolls taste pretty good to me, but like I said you just can't compare it to restaurant sushi because they're on two totally different levels. In fact, the rainbow roll here looks and tastes a lot better than this one ACYE sushi place (Joe's) I occasionally go to in Buena Park; even the salmon nigiri tastes better here than this one revolving sushi place (Gatten) in Fullerton. Call me plain, but the nigiri is my favorite (especially the salmon). I haven't had the problem of having "too much rice" like another reviewer has said, but if you know anything about traditional sushi, rice is supposed to be the MAIN ingredient. Protip: If you ask nicely, the chef will happily make a fresh roll for you (provided the ingredients are still available) and you don't have to get what's already displayed. However, I wouldn't exactly buy here on a Sunday. Whenever I'm in here on a Sunday, the chef isn't there; I'm pretty sure it's his day off or something and they have some sushi reserved from the day before. Surprisingly satisfactory. We had a sushi craving but didn't want to spend too much money so we decided to give Pada a try. We picked up a Spicy Tuna and what I think was a Crunchy Dragon roll and asked for an order of 10 Sashimi. The rolls were rather nice, light on the rice high on krab/tuna. The Spicy Tuna was better than most restaurants. The Crunch Dragon.. meh, it was okay, just get another Spicy Tuna. Unfortunately there is a slight tinge of store bought sushi taste, but easily disregarded. The sashimi was surprisingly good in taste even if thin in quantity. It tasted fresh and if it was about twice the thickness, it could have been close to that in some 5 star sushi establishments. I think that if Pada was visited in higher volume they could probably bring their cost down a bit, but for now it is definitely an acceptable quick sushi substitute. read more

It tastes like store bought sushi but it still tastes good !!!! Also I live right next to Albertsons so the location is like A+! It's always a little cold for me after being refrigerated for so long, but it's about a dollar cheaper than going to a real restaurant so I like coming here when I want to treat myself to a nice dinner and pig out on sushi rolls in front of the tv. I got food poisoning once for a couple days from the sushi here. However, it was only a one time occurrence and I have been here many more times and have been fine. Also I always end up stopping by Albertsons at night so I never get the sushi when it's fresh and not super cold... unfortunately. The rice is typically hard because it's been sitting in the fridge/case and the fish doesn't taste fresh at all. I've always been more of a sushi restaurant kind of guy and actually can't remember if I've ever bought sushi to go but this sushi just seems different. Okay, after reading the reviews I had to try it. It's like this, for store bought sushi, it's pretty good. I tried the California Rolls, Spicy CA. rolls, Rainbow Sushi and Spicy Tuna. Here are my grades: 1. California Rolls = B 2. Spicy California Rolls = B 3. Rainbow Sushi= B+ 4. Spicy Tuna= C Spicy Tuna wasn't all that great to me. It was tasteless tuna. I see what some of the commentators were talking about. Also, the tuna part of the rainbow wasn't as tasty either as some of the other rolls. I have had store bought sushi before and vowed never again, but I must say that this is a pretty economical way to get some decent sushi. This is very much still your average grocery store grade sushi. I'll admit the pricing is competitive compared to your typical sushi restaurant and the selection is better than say your Costco, but the quality is just not there. I got a 12 piece combo box of spicy tuna roll, California roll, and shrimp tempura crunch roll for a mere $6.50. And for that price, that's the quality of sushi I also got. just dropped by again... this time i went in for a big order for work. not sure if anyone knows this, but you can totally call in your order and have it ready for pick up at a later time. today i called in early... placed order for 3 vegi rolls, 4 cali rolls, 3 rainbow rolls, 2 gyoza, and 3 miso soups. he said he would have it ready by 11. i wanted to see if he actually made my order or just took old stuff, so i went in early. he was making everything fresh! making it right before it was supposed to be ready. it was very nice. he made everything so it was ready at 11 right on the dot. couldn't be happier with my lunch there. read more

The miso soup was only $1 and all I had to do was add hot water (really good soup too). The sushi rolls weren't skimpy at all, good size rolls & really good! This place is good for on the go! My fave is the rainbow roll... absolutely delicious and the dipping sauce it comes with its just another added bonus! Rolls are decently priced $8.50 for mine and only $3.49 for a cali roll. ayyyyyy not bad. not bad at all. for around 8 bucks i can get a decent size roll. id say it is worth it. better than the rip off small ass sushi at college. dont expect something super fancy like the restaurants because this is one of those grocery store sushis. im not complaining though because for that price id take it. i got the hawaiian roll which was pretty much a california roll with avocado and fish on top. decent. It's prepackaged Albertson's market sushi, not from a restaurant. So while keeping that in mind, it wasn't too bad. It tasted pretty fresh and had decent sized and varieties, depending on what you decide to eat. It's basically just a quick meal pickup instead of taking the time to sit down and eat if you're in a rush. read more
