Surely, we were surrounded by whales. I went on the 6:45am 2 hour Eco Raft tour. One boat tour holds around 12 persons. The temperature in Maui in February was fantastic, about 65F at night, and 75F at peak of day. It was great value, costing about $111 for the 2 hour tour. Keep in mind, you need to show up 30 minutes before the actual time to fill out waivers, etc. Many whales were a few feet away. There were so many whales! We must have seen 50+ individuals. See my video of baby whale breaching. I didn't capture alot of photos, because I would rather see it with my own eyes. Tip for those traveling in February: it's a peak travel season for Maui, so book your rental cars well in advance 10-12 months ahead. If you book 5-6 months ahead, you won't get any. You may try rental car with Turo, or have to rent E-bike, bike or take Lyft, Uber, etc. Clothing suggestions: depends on the time of day you go. For early mornings, you may wear shorts or long pants, something warm like sweatshirt or I did Patagonia fleece with lightweight Outdoor Research rainjacket on top. Shoes come off, so you will be barefoot on the boat and you will get the shoes back afterwards, so that won't matter. It's kind of windy, so hold on to or get a hat with a string that goes around your neck. Bring sunglasses, and put on sunblock while you're signing the waivers. You will not regret it if you come during whale season!

We selected this company due to their excellent reviews, and we're sure glad we did! Captain Ryan and deckhands Jade and Chloe were friendly, funny, knowledgeable and accommodating. And even though the tour was for snorkeling only, Ryan decided to throw in some dolphins and whale watching we hadn't expected! Lunch and snacks were very good, too. The 60' Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) was maneuverable, comfortable, and with FOUR 350 HP Yamaha outboards (that's 1,400 HP), VERY fast! Just an outstanding day for the whole family. The captain and naturalist were nice, friendly and knowledgeable. We saw a lot of whales, sea turte, and we also heard the whales sing! The captain has a hyrophone and that's when we heard the whales sing. Towards the end of our tour, I heard the whale sounds with just my ear and without the hydrophone. It was a really cool and memorable experience. I highly recommend Maui Reef Adventure.

Thank you so much to our tour guide, Tyler, for the awesome experience! The company sends a text message with information the night prior to the tour with information on where to meet (Makena Landing Beach Tour). The check-in time for us was at 7:00 AM and the tour starts around 7:30 AM. All equipment needed was provided (snorkeling set, wet bag, kayak, and life jackets). There were five other people on our tour, which made the tour even more fun :) Tyler gave us all of the proper instructions and tips for kayaking and snorkeling. We've kayaked before but it was both my boyfriend and my first time snorkeling and he made us feel really comfortable and confident in trying something new. The snorkeling experience was amazing and we had the chance of appreciate the beautiful coral reefs, aquatic life (including tunas jumping out of the water), green sea turtles, and surrounding mountains. Tyler was also really knowledgeable about things to see on the island and had a lot of interesting fun facts. Our friends also agreed that the tour was worth it and overall had a really great time. I'd highly recommend booking a tour during a Maui trip!
