Padoca Bakery is a super cute place that is perfect for studying/working. It is also the home of the greatest pao de queijos in the entire universe! My girlfriend lives just a block from this bakery, and we spend time here on the weekends regularly to get some work done and study! The place is cute and cozy, with only a few seats available, probably about 15-20 seats to the side of the counter. It has great natural lighting, which is a great vibe for relaxing and working at the same time. The only problem though? No bathroom! if you do not live around the bakery and you're trying to spend a few hours there on your laptop, you might need to use the bathroom (especially if you're drinking coffee). Probably will wanna look for a bathroom and the other restaurants and shops nearby. But of course, let me talk about the PDQs! I've had these at brazilian steakhouse before, but never had i had PDQs as amazing as those from Padoca! If there is only one reason to go to Padoca, it's for their pao de queijos! read more

It's a really nice spot to sit and just chill out because the decor is lively yet relaxing. You could have a quiet conversation, work/play on your laptop, just bop your head to the music pouring out of your headphones. Or snap a few photos of the cool teapots strung from the ceiling. As for the drinks and food: Overall I think the snacks are a tad overpriced for the tiny morsels you actually receive. Their menu seemed lacking. I'm not sure if they just ran out of half their menu when I showed up a bit before 5pm on a regular Thursday afternoon, but their good-looking sandwich menu (which is awkwardly placed as a postcard-looking thing next to the register) might as well have been nonexistent. What snacks they did have looked good. The empanadas caught my eye in the pics posted here by fellow yelpers, but they were itty bitty when I actually visited them in person. I did not actually try them though. As far as what I did consume... The cold brew was pretty good. A slice of lemon cake that had a nice outer crust and some tasteful slivers of real lemon peel covered in sugar on top. I think it was a little on the dry side, but it did the job with my coffee. Oh and they have this thing called Grandma's Milk, which is a caramel and milk drink. Didn't try it, but sounds like a perfect early autumn Sunday. Unique, Brazilian/Isralean/French bakery in the UES. It's not your typical bakery, you can't get croissants or bagels. But what you can get is the PDQ. The first time I had it, I wasn't sure if I like it or not... it's basically a buttery puff pastry full of gooey cheese. The second time I had it, I loved it. They also have scones, cookies, flavored breads and cakes. They have a few options of PDQ too. They also have a few lunch/sandwich options, which I need to remember to try. Definitely a unique bakery, where almost everything on the menu you probably haven't had before or never seen anywhere else. I need to remember to come here more to try more things on their menu. The inside is simple, not much decor but bright and lots of natural lighting, usually very crowded, no bathroom. It's a unique and fun spot to try new things in the UES. read more

Continuing my downtown food adventure, I entered this bakery with intentions to buy a cookie for my coworker and I ended up buying more. I bought the mushroom empadinha and two marshmallow chocolate cookies. The mushroom empadinha was amazing! I was not expecting such a burst of mushroom flavor. I took a picture of the inside because you have to order this if you like mushrooms. It's sort of like a savory mushroom pastry. I wish I ordered two of this instead of the cookie! Location: Place is very neighborhood based . I mean, it is very far from the 6 subway. So I have to walk 2 avenues to be there. Place is decorated with love. They even have a indoor swing and yes it is a hot spot because every customer is trying to be on that swing. Food: I had zuccini bread, and their americano. WOW, I havent had zuccini bread for a while and this place nailed the zuccini bread. It is flavorful, fresh and tastes better with coffee. Service: very nice. Price: average. I come here because it's close to where I'm working for my internship (MSK). This is my second time here. I've gotten the matcha latte and the hot chocolate, both which taste slightly odd to me, idk maybe it's the milk they use. The chocolate banana bread is reeeeaaallly good. Great soft texture, but not too sweet. It's got a super cute decor with a chair swing and teapot lights from the ceiling. It's great for a quick coffee or if you need to kill some time. Great to study (they have at least 2 outlets and free WiFi). Would come back if I'm in the area again. read more

Coffee is ok, bakery options are hit/miss. I purchased the orange olive oil loaf and a chocolate banana loaf as thank you gifts for doctors offices at MSK they were gone in seconds. The orange was preferred, light an moist. I ordered myself a PDQ, ordered w/egg & cheese. After a 20 minute wait they handed me a PDQ with BLT w/avocado. The PDQ was doughy, thick.. Not at all light. The bacon was undercooked, I ended up throwing the whole thing away. Inedible. While waiting for the sandwich to be prepared the staff tried to give me someone else's order. They just don't care. I had tried a chocolate bobka prior that was also dense and undercooked in the center. Again, staff was limited in the interaction and assistance. I wouldn't bother.. it's a hassle. The owner was there-- really lovely and welcoming young woman. The place is clean and pleasant. I stopped in for lunch after a doctor's appointment at nearby Weill Cornell. What a treat! I went here just because I saw it and it looked really cute inside. Unfortunately it wasn't very enjoyable having to eat and drink my latte with over a dozen flies all over. I'm normally not one to complain but there were s lot more than I would expect at a restaurant. While I was eating my Caprese sandwich all I could think about how many times a fly landed on my food beforehand and I couldn't bring myself to finish it, although it was good. I also ordered a chai latte, not tea, but all it was was tea with some foam on the top. I don't know if they prepared it wrong but that was no chai latte. Hopefully it gets better read more

After a tiring day at work, was looking forward to a sweet treat. So I got myself chai late and chocolate chips cookie from this cafe and it was a terrible idea. The chai latte tasted like hot water with toothpaste and chocolate chip cookie was okay at best. I would not recommend this place. I was immediately drawn to this unique bakery when it opened up in the neighborhood. I haven't tried many things yet but I am absolutely planning to. I highly recommend these indulgences so far... The Pão de Queijo was flavorful, light and cheesy deliciousness. The chocolate chip cookie was so satisfying and tasty with both milk and dark chocolate chips. The Rocky Road cookie, my personal favorite, was so unique. It was really dark rich chocolate but not overly sweet. The toasted marshmallows topped it off perfectly. Both cookies have a great texture. An excellent balance of crunch on the edges with that soft center. Definitely all must-tries. This place is more higher end and good quality than any other Brazilian place ever, and you can taste that in their quality of the final product. Their pão de queijo was outstanding as well as their empadinha! (Too bad they don't have more of the hearts of palm or mushrooms since I'm vegetarian!) I also didn't see a lot of varieties like rocambole de doce de leite or guava paste. They have great credentials as pastry chefs working at Maialino and the mark hotel (Jean Georges restaurant). The atmosphere of padoca is lovely, bright and airy, and is a rare coffee shop where you could actually get some work done. The staff are friendly and the coffee is very good. I had their cranberry pumpkin muffin and a dulce de leche chocolate babka, which I didn't love, but perhaps they just were different from my normal taste. I'm just not sure. I live in the neighborhood and so badly wanted this to be my local cafe. I love the colors, the vibe, the swing on the interior... but my order generally gets messed up when ordering for more than 2 people. I move down to the pick up and stand there only to find that the barista says it's not on the order - I go back to the pay counter- yep it's there. One of my favorite coffee shops to stop by during lunch! I've only ordered coffee and a slice of banana bread before but it has been hard to resist their other baked goodies! Try the PDQ!!! It's this small cheese ball and it's so soft and not that salty given the amount of cheese inside. I was attracted to this place while walking because of the 'creative bakery' sign on the door under the place name and decided to check this place out. Super cute place with creative lights, nice decor, and mysterious music. It's also pretty spacious here, so I would say it's a good place for large groups. I also got the macchiato here and given that I'm not a huge coffee fan, the macchiato was too strong for me compared to other places, so I encourage everyone like me to add some milk in there.
