I knew exactly what would happen, but I went anyway. My prediction was that I'd visit this ugly outside, beautiful inside new Aiea restaurant and find the "Hawaii Regional" Italian fare not to my liking. I used to like places like this restaurant's sister in Manoa, Assagio, etc. but once I came back from Italy have had great difficulty shelling out bills for what I consider over saturated (too much butter and oil) or greasy Italian. I crave Italian flavors that don't cater to the Hawaii palate (and that's tough to find here). I note this things not believe the restaurant should change, I think they've achieved what they set out to. Just for me personally, if I going use my money and calories somewhere, I rather it be at a more Authentic Italian (or even American Italian) place. My personal taste aside, if you love the Assagio type food, you'll love this place. My Osso Bucco was tender and savory. The service and execution of the dishes were very good for having been opened only a few days (Had I actually posted on the day I went here, I could've had another FTR--I'd be lying if I said I didn't like those). The interior is laid out well, and there's room for expansion. A smart idea to get at least half the space going and making money. Central Oahu residents can cross their fingers and hope they build a wine bar on the other side. It's silly but I like the stylish wooden chairs (not so much the decorative pots, statue, and slightly cheesy glass partition). The exterior is completely lame and unimaginative, you'd think with doing a new construction that they would have done something, anything, but no this is just new blah. Anyway, I should move on. There's other places to be Yelped. I knew what to expect, but how am I not going to at least try one of the nicest restaurants for miles around (I even gave an extra star for that). I haven't really found a great Italian restaurant on the island, but after walking into Paesano Ristorante I think I found one! My boyfriend and I went there on a Friday night spontaneously at about 6pm. To our surprise, we were seated right away without any reservations. The restaurant was half full but as the night went on there were people waiting outside for a seat. The waiter suggested two specials of the day: a seafood linguine pasta with a spicy tomato sauce; included were scallops, and shrimp. The other special was a ribeye steak with shrimp and pasta. I opted for the seafood pasta special and my boyfriend chose the ribeye. The bread was delicious. Crusty outside but not so hard to hurt the roof of your mouth, and very soft in the inside. We also both ordered caesar salads. The salad was fresh with a homemade dressing. The dressing was very garlicky but that doesn't bother me at all. I rather enjoyed the flavor. The croutons also appeared to have been homemade. I chose a pinot grigo and my boyfriend chose a merlot - both from Italy. When the dishes came out, they were huge! This place does not skimp on portions at all. My scallops were humongous, the sauce was flavorful and spicy with capers with lots of garlic and onions. I was impressed. My boyfriend's ribeye was huge as well, and cooked to perfection. It was dressed with a red wine reduction sauce with onions and sliced portabello mushrooms. The side was jumbo shrimp with a pasta tossed in a light olive oil/garlic sauce dressed with fresh snow peas. Overall this was a great and delicious meal. For close to 20 years, I've been dining there with excellence. While the service by Min (owner/GM) and staff is always exc ellent, the prices are NOT more than the competitors. 3 1/2 stars Decided to try here about a month ago since I'd been to the one in Manoa a few years ago and thought it was OK. It was soon after they'd opened doors so the rush of diners curious to try a new place in aiea was still in full force. It took a few minutes to get a table but since we didnt have reservations, that was expected. Once we were seated, the wait staff quickly served us water and some bread and went over the specials of the day. The rest of the meal went the same way with the staff being attentive but not overbearing. My friend ordered the veal scallopini and I had the Chicken Saltimbocca. The one thing about my dish was that I wouldve liked it better if it had eggplant on it. (At another Aiea restaurant that is no longer there, Alberros, the Saltimbocca had breaded eggplant, prosciutto, and cheese on it which was great). My friend said his veal was good tho. We both passed on desert. As pointed out in another review...if you like places like Assagios, then you'll like it here. But to me, it's way too oily, which is why I dont eat at these places very often. The portions are large but so are the prices...Italian food in Hawaii is overpriced imo. I wish I came here more when I lived in Pearl City. I'm not a big Italian food fan but this is one of my favorite places. If I could combine their food with Bravo's garlic rolls and we'd have a real winner! I don't always get anything in particular. Some things are hit or miss but luckily I've chosen things that have been really good. The wife and I had occasion to dine at Paesano Ristorante Italiano recently - the one in the Waimalu Plaza across the parking lot from Safeway. I've always enjoyed Paesano, and its sister restaurant Assagio. Both offer wonderfully rich Italian dishes that cater to my tastes. It was late afternoon when we decided to have an early dinner, and being as how we were toodling around in Aiea, we decided to try the Paesano there, having eaten at their Manoa location but never at the Waimalu Plaza site. Lucky us, they opened at 5 p.m. for dinner, just as we pulled up to the entrance. We weren't terribly starved, but we were hungry. Salad, soup and/or appetizer? Nope, not that night. We went straight to the entrées. She ordered one of her standards (a usual favorite) - Eggplant Alla Parmigiana, one of their specialties, on linguini. Nothing really fancy, but according to her, very tasty. I tried the sauce (as usual) ... yes, very tasty. I was in a mood for seafood so I went with their Scallops Alla Scampi Style with snap peas and linguini. A word of warning: Do not plan any kissing after dinner if you have this one. It's very garlicky. Yummy garlicky, but garlicky for sure. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but you might want to hold off on the kissing unless your partner or date has something garlicky as well. I'm just saying ... Anyway, be that as it may, my food was cholesterol-heaven. Lots of butter, lots of scallops. It was heavenly! The linguini was perfectly cooked, the sauce was richly buttery, the garlic was great (they did use a lot, but minced it up really fine, and of course, one could always brush it off and moderate its effects). A garlicky scallopy meal like that deserves a dessert to finish it off. Tiramisu, of course. If I were still rating tiramisu on my Heaven in the Mouth website that I sold a few years ago, I'd give it an 8 out of 10. And that's the highest grade I've given to tiramisu in Hawaii. I loved that you could taste the liqueur in the espresso that the ladyfingers were dipped in. And, nice guy that I am, I let the wife have the cherry on top. read more

This restaurant to me is a sleeper. Not well known like assagios but in the same ball park. Located in waimalu area by Safeway and city mill. This place wasn't our first choice that night because of our procrastination and it being Christmas Eve every place was booked. This place happily took our 830p rsvp and I called @ 300 that day! The food we started with the clam casino typical mussels in a buttery sauce with bacon and spinach mmm was good! The warm Prosciutto with mushrooms was also very delish. The mozzarella sticks were good but would be better if it was flakier. The entree I had was the veal scallopine ala sorentino. This was totally time stopping my mouth was totally amazed very good!! Dessert my wife and I had the chocolate mousse cake and the cannoli and both were totally exceptional. I went here on a Saturday night to treat myself. Quite a few people that night. Atmosphere was so so, but it was clean. Started off with a minestrone soup, the chicken anchovy Olino as my main and a tiramasu for dessert. The minestrone was a bit bland. Vegetables didn't taste like much and the broth was forgettable. People were recommending the olio so I thought I'd give it a try. For a spaghetti dish that has fried garlic and anchovies, I didn't taste anything. Even the chicken barely tasted like chicken. Finally I ordered dessert because I was hoping for something to end on a good note. It came rather quickly, as if it was plated previously and kept in a fridge, ready to be served immediately. The tiramasu was so so. There was nothing special about it. Tasted like a tiramasu I'd buy at a supermarket. Overall I was expecting a bit more out of my meal. Instead I thought it was overpriced and a bit low quality. The staff was nice, which was a plus. If you want fine authentic Italian, I'd recommend a nice Italian restaurant in town. If you want something with slightly better quality and more affordable, try Bravos. read more

First time here with my family. My wife told me that this place is good. Thought we try a different Italian place other than our usual Assagios. I ordered fish picante for dinner. I loved how my fish was cooked...it was cooked to perfection...moist, and was perfectly seasoned but unfortunately, the rest of the dish didn't live up to the same expectations. Pasta was cold and the garlic tasted boiled and not sautéed. The sauce was a little too creamy for this dish and it tasted like the wine was not simmered enough as the alcohol was coming through with the garlic over powering the dish; it gave me that bitter acidy after taste in mouth. Service by the waiters were awesome. My kids enjoyed their food. Loved the hot bread but my dish was a downer. I would go back to try other dishes. I thought it would be a buffalo sauce cheese sticks, but instead was just mozzarella balls on top of a leaf of basil and a slice of tomato, topped with pesto. As a family, we always go out to dinner after our Saturday evening mass. One Saturday we decided to go to Paesano. This place looks bland on the outside, however, its beautiful on the inside! It looks like a classy 5-star restaurant in my book, but without costing you an arm and a leg! We made reservations for 7:00, but we arrived 20 minutes early (hey, we were hungry) and they seated us right away! We were surprised since it was pretty busy. However... it took about 20 minutes for a server to actually come to us and take our drink orders. Maybe thats what we get since we were early for our reservations? I ordered the small portion chicken picatta. I know it's called "small" portion for a reason, but if I can finish my dish, then it really is a small portion! At Palazzo, their small portion is cheaper and I never EVER finish their small portion! This place is okay... Food is good and the atmosphere is nice for date night or family dinners. Paesano's in Aiea has always been consistent with service, portion size, and quality taste in food. My family and I went to have dinner on Halloween evening 2020, during Covid. We're a family of 5 so we did sit at the same table. It's regulations that each customer wear a mask. Employees wore masks as well. The seating were 6 feet apart from each party. Hostess had a form per table to fill out on information pertaining to guest about symptoms related to Covid and travel, etc. I did notice that employees constantly sanitized menus and restrooms. They also remove and replace linens after each customer is done and they do it quite fast as soon as they walk out the door. They always serve warm bread with a plate of butter. We ordered drinks (wine & iced tea) and appetizers (Calamari in Carozza & Paesano's Crab cakes) and dinner (shrimp, vegetable linguine with garlic sauce), (Chicken Piccata), (New York Steak w/baked potato), (Fettuccine Alfredo w/ chicken & broccoli), (Linguine in marinara sauce) and dessert (cheesecake, chocolate mousse cake, tiramisu, & gelato). They have 2 bathrooms available on either side of the restaurant. Temperature is always comfortable. Food is always great and small portions of dishes are big. I love dinning here!!! read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my chicken anchovy olio have to give it only four star cause of what happened to a co-worker. found a single strand of hair but they quickly offered to replace it when they found out. these things happen so I don't think it's worth making a huge scene. but it was one of those awkward times where you just wish they would comp it. if the person discovers something and already ate over a third of it, it's highly unlikely that they want to eat it again. PTSD man but the meal was still on the bill... at least they offered to make her a new one to go and threw in dessert to go. I don't think situation was a terribly handled one, but it could have been better. hopefully one day, restaurants understand where we are coming from and we're not trying to be cheap anyways, i'm still giving them four stars so hopefully that paints the picture that the food was still good. just slightly disappointed how my co-workers situation was handled. read more

Raw garlic in pasta sauce is a no no... I came here with a big party and I did try other dishes. Their salmon dish is really good. My gf got that and she gets that every time. The complementary bread was ok. The butter was rock hard. It's really not a problem, but I hate trying to spread it on my bread since it helps to rip it to shreds. The menu is very overwhelming. They offer a lot of things and I spent a long time figuring out what to get. I got the scallop and shrimp alla bolla. Do not order it. Other people from my party ordered similar dishes and they also complained about it having too much garlic. I'm a garlic lover myself, but it was way too much. I then figured out why it was so bad. They didn't cook the garlic! They just put raw chopped up garlic in my pasta. FAIL! I could not eat the dish. I had to take it home, cook it more and dilute it in other things. The restaurant is semi-formal, just like Assagiao's. It's good for a family dinner, but not a date night place. Well, maybe fine for a first date, but the food is hit or miss, and in this case you can miss the mark by a mile. This is true for Assagiao's too. They both miss the mark on a few dishes and that's why they aren't deserving of a better rating. If you can't make certain things right, take it off the menu. I ordered a pasta plate and I could distinctly taste fish sauce...not something I expected. The chicken pieces were also ginormous, thigh-sized almost, which is a big no-no in my book. The flavor was OK, masked with an overload of garlic (its only saving grace) but again, the fish sauce taste totally threw me off. All this and expensive prices to boot. The food and service though, made up for it. That said, the food, prices, and ambience reminded me of Assaggio in Mililani. If you GPS their location, you will get lost. It's actually located across from that shopping center but to get there, you have to drive around the corner into the Safeway Supermarket entrance into the Waimalu Shopping Plaza. so I've lived in Pearl City for 9 years, and never bothered to stop by this little restaurant near Safeway. Boy, was that a mistake! The decor was modern, cozy, and looked expensive, and it's surprisingly much larger inside than it looks. They also have a full bar (bonus!) We did not have a reservation, but were seated within minutes, and given some yummy fresh bread to snack on while we looked at the menu. The menu was pretty impressive, and not at all what I expected--4 pages of pastas galore. The hubs and I ordered--he had the pasta with clams, and I had the mushroom pasta. We both ordered the smaller portions, and I was surprised when the waiter dropped a plate of pasta piled high like a mountain. I asked him if it was the petit portion and he smiled and said yes, but if that's the small portion, then I'm scared of what a large portion is! The food was good, the sauces tasted freshly made, not like it was sitting in a pot on the stove waiting to be served. The hubs had about 10 clams with his meal, and my mushroom plate was fresh mushrooms and tons of garlic. We also shared a caesar salad and I had a glass of wine. Paesano's in the shopping center with Safeway and Chicken and Waffels is surprisingly waaay better than I was expecting. Given the location I didn't think they were going to last as long as they have. But going there you can see why. I went there this past Friday for my cousins birthday. We got there around 6pm and although there was quite a few people there, we waited less then 10 min for a table. Gotta love that about being on the leeward side! I personally will not wait for a table anywhere if its more then 45 min...unless the food was sent from the gods or something haha! Our waiter was very attentive and did well with timing between checking on us and getting the food out. I ordered the regular size chicken florentine which was absolutely WONDERFUL! I loved how garlicky it was and they didn't skimp me on the chicken pieces! I also like that they used chicken thighs as opposed to breasts. Yes I know the breasts are healthy for you but them suckers are also dry AF! haha The sauce is light in texture but very flavorful and the mixture of veggies and bacon go so well with it. It's definitely my new favorite. We also got the bruchetta. Flavor wise it was good. They add some type of spread on the bread before putting the tomato mix on top. Only thing I would suggest is making it all separate. The bread got mushy before we were able to eat them all. Well, service was impeccable. It's was hot and extremely humid that day, which is why we decided to go out to eat. Our water glasses were always full. Our order was taken the second we knew what we wanted. Food came out hot and there wasn't a long wait. Check was immediate. We were in and out... And it was a Saturday Night. I have an 8 month old, so going out to eat and having her at the table is usually iffy. The table was clean, along with everything on it, so I had no issues clipping her chair to the table. Crab cakes $15, but pretty decent size. 14 oz prime rib special $44 (kinda pricy but tasted amazing). Small portion chicken parmigiana, which was not so small, $17. Glass of wine $9.50.
