There used to be a JJM spot in this strip mall that turned into a Pho place, and that was devastating because it was the best one in Aurora. Now, Paik's Noodle is in the location that used to be VONS Chicken with its own brand of Asian eats goodness. Is this the best JJM or JB you've ever had? It is not, but you won't regret having it. Is this the best service you've ever had as they keep up with the many people that come in? No, it is not. Is the ambiance better than every other JJM spot in Aurora right now? Yes, it is. It's brighter, looks friendlier, and cleaner than the few challengers left in the area. This is not mind-blowing JJM, but it is a good version that has been expertly tuned to appeal to the masses. We decided to try this place with all the hype on the Chef but food was not what I expected. We ordered tangsuyuk, meat jja jjang myun and Khan pphong-gi. Ttangsuyuk batter was light and crispy but sauce had a weird taste, slightly sweet but off. Jja jjang myun was ok but the khan pphong gi was soggy and just tasted like gochujjang. Normally it is crispy battered fried chicken with veggies and the mushrooms just threw it off too. We can say we tried this place but try for your own. Our waitress was nice. read more

I got the Jajangmyeon to go and I was really disappointed. I know this dish is supposed to be a little sweet, but that was pretty much the only flavor in the sauce. I really missed any richness, saltiness or umami from the black bean sauce. I ended up putting a bunch of hot sauce on it just to make it palatable. The noodles were cooked fine and the ladies at the counter were nice enough, but I'm also deducting a star for the extra $1.00 "to go charge". You've got to be kidding me. read more

Let's sample some Korean-Chinese goodness at Paik's Noodle. As I had mentioned a while back in previous reviews, the concept of Korean-Chinese cuisine began over a hundred years ago with the influx of Chinese immigrants to Korea (particularly, although not exclusively, to the city of Incheon). As a result of this movement, certain especially-popular dishes were brought over and tweaked to appeal more to local tastes. Paik's Noodle (sometimes also called "Hong Kong Banjeom", with the latter word meaning "spot") aims to present the quintessential Korean-Chinese culinary experience to its diners, right down to the side dishes you will see on the table. That's right - they don't have your typical banchan, opting instead for tangy Danmuji (yellow pickled radish) and sliced white onion (which is meant to be doused in vinegar, then dipped in Chunjang (bean paste) before consumption). As the saying goes, simplicity is beauty - and fewer sides means you can more fully appreciate and concentrate on the array of main dishes which will soon be arriving at your table. "OK. that's all great to know, but what do they have on the menu?", you ask. Well, I was just getting to that, so slow your roll. One of the most classic Korean-Chinese culinary specialties is Jjajangmyeon - pork in a rich soybean sauce with wheat noodles. Enough for two people if you dont eat alot. $20 and has lots of squids and some pork. I personally dont like the taste of pork but seafood, sauce, and noodles are good! read more

I consider Paik Jong Won the nicer, friendlier version of Korean Gordon Ramsey and was def excited when I heard this place opened in Aurora so we had to go try it. Restaurant itself is very spacious, with pictures of the menu and Paik cooking all over the restaurant. The menu here is pretty easy to follow, even if you're not used to the typical Chinese- Korean dishes. They have pictures and a short description of what's in each dish, which I thought was nice. Just to note, the service here isn't petfect. We were seated at a corner and the servers were constantly on the move, so it was hard for us to get their attention. It took them about 15 min, and only when who I assume to be the owner asked us if we have ordered yet and brought a server over when we told him no. We ended up ordering 3 things: the jangban Jjajang (쟁반짜장) for 2, soy and garlic Hong Kong wings and sweet and sour pork (탕수육). I wouldn't recommend the wings. We ordered the 5 piece and they were the smallest wings I've seen at a restaurant. Taste itself was ok, nothing bad but def not worth $10. My gf wanted them since it was called Hong Kong wings, but she said it wasn't anything like what you would get at Hong Kong. The sweet and sour pork is ok here, nothing too exciting for me. Batter is crispy and chewy at the same time, sort of like mochi-type of consistency. Pork itself has no flavor really, more for just the texture of the batter I suppose. The sauce here is what kills it for me. I believe they use ketchup in their sauce, which is more of a traditional style of Korean sweet and sour sauce, and the acidic tangy-ness of the ketchup is so off putting for me. The main dish, the jangban jjajang made up for their weak apps though. It's a decent portion size, although I could see a lot of people being able to finish this by themselves even though the portion states for 2. My gf and I shared it, thinking it wasn't going to be enough at first but we were pretty full when we we were done so ‍. Sauce itself has a slight kick, enough for you to feel it but not enough for you to reach for a glass of cup every other bite. Noodles are perfectly cooked for this type of dish, and the seafood in the sauce blends in well with the overall flavor of the dish. Overall, def excited to try other main dishes here. Oh and if anyone was thinking of to-go here, that isn't available right now as one of the workers told us that they are trying to master their daily system first before taking to go orders. read more

The sweet and sour pork is the best thing there, they add prices of chewy rice which is unique, the pork in the meat jajangmyun had an odd flavor to it, I ordered the beef jampong, they gave me the seafood one, the chicken gangpoonggi was horrible, I threw most of that out, the breading is a very odd chewy one, not crisp at all like other places, the same nasty flour coating is on the cream shrimp, which is not worth the price for ten tiny pieces of shrimp. I'm bummed it wasn't better, given how famous this guy is in Korea......would have been happy to make the drive. They use frozen store bought mandoo too, nothing met expectations besides tangsooyook. read more

Both staples are delicious here, and appreciated that the jjajang sauce was full of meat/veggies, without seeming to overdo the starch for artificially thickening. Paik's Noodle, otherwise known as Hong Kong Banjum, has arrived and what a welcome it is. I've been to this franchise in other states, mainly in Los Angeles and when I heard a location was opening right here in Aurora, I was ecstatic and scared at the same time due to other famous franchises opening in Colorado and falling short of expectations. But, fear not! This location lives up to their name and reputation. You'll enter into an open dining hall and a welcome, vibrant setting with beautiful decor and some frames of the history of the franchise. It's nice to look at and ponder over while briefly waiting for service. The restaurant is clean cut and modern (it is brand new after all), but it's well cleaned and seeing how the staff bussed the tables gave me assurance of their cleanliness. The staff are friendly and working out some kinks as all new restaurants do at first, but service was great and welcoming. Let's move on to the cuisine. We ordered the Gochu Jjampong, Tangsuyuk, and Jaengban Jajang. If you're a lover of spice, the Gochu Jjampong is the way to go. The broth was very spicy, but so savory and was seasoned so well. The seafood inside wasn't over done and still held a great consistency and taste. The noodles are arguably the most important aspect of the dish and it was pulled and cooked perfectly. It didn't break apart, it wasn't too stringy, and absorbed just the right amount of broth to pack it with flavor. The Tangsuyuk was fried to perfection. Beautifully crispy on the inside and juicy and fluffy in the middle. Nothing to argue about how amazing each piece was. The sauce wasn't too tangy or overpoweringly sweet either. Paired great with each other. The Jaengban Jajang is a shareable dish and brought everything this restaurant stands for all together. The ever-so slightly charred flavor from the wok, the mastered noodles, and perfectly seasoned sauce with the stir fry of all the ingredients gave the final dish a unique and delicious flavor, texture, and consistency. The whole place is super clean and the food's delicious . So good that I went twice to make sure I tried everything I wanted before I left town. The staff are extremely nice! They gave us aprons to make sure we didn't soil our clothes and even cut up some of our food into smaller sizes! We had the jjajangmyeon and tangsuyuk the first time and then the mandu, jjampong, and tangsuyuk again the second time. The single portions are big enough to share which is what my friend and I did. Came here for lunch. I got the Jjamppong and it was delicious. The noodle was perfectly cook and the spice level was perfect. The portion was very huge too. Two people could share it. I have been to Paik's Noodle many times in California at a few different locations (Buena Park, etc). This Aurora one is the worst. Maybe the other reviewers just got lucky and I didn't. I gave it 3 stars as it is still a soft opening, so I went easy, but some things shouldn't be affected by a soft opening. (We also went at a time when there were several empty tables, so it wasn't peak time)For example: As for service, we sat down and didn't get a menu for about 10 minutes. No water either. The food came out BEFORE we got chopsticks. Once we did get water, we didn't get a refill when our bottle was empty. At least the wait staff wasn't rude. Just not attentive enough. Again, our problems arose during a non peak time. Later on in our meal, it got busy, but the whole menu and chopsticks part was during a slower time. The fried rice was very mushy and soggy. Texture of the fried rice shouldn't be affected by a soft opening. It felt like they made the fried rice, let it sit on a plate for an hour or 2 while wrapped, then wrapped it in saran wrap again, and microwaved it to death. It was the soggiest fried rice I've ever had. Kinda hard to make soggy fried rice on a wok in my experience of making fried rices. This alone made me want to give 1-star, but I'm trying to be objective. As for food, the jjajangmyeon tasted weaker than the California locations. Didn't taste the jjajang as much, but again, soft opening, so maybe that's the excuse for taste. Only good part of the whole experience was the jjamppong. I loved this restaurant in California, so this location is a huge disappointment. Still tasted better than yong gung and p&y cafe (진흥각), so whatever ... Jjajang and jjamppong are my childhood favorite meals and carry so many good memories, so I'll take what I can get here... read more

I'm used to the Paik's in Houston and there's a huge difference with the one here. The fried rice was soggy and bland. The jjajjangmyun was bland. The tangsooyook was fine. It's hard to mess up fried food. I was really excited to try it out but alas, quite disappointing. The service was really good though. read more

The service is great but the food was below par. We had tortilla chips in the main entrée dish, KKanpung Saeu. The other dish was very bland, had to use soy sauce to get some flavor, Jaengban Jajang. I guess there are some popular dishes in the menu which we didn't try. You need to maybe stick to those particular dishes. read more
