Came here for my mom's birthday. The restaurant was located in a fancy courtyard with many different restaurants, so we had to give the place a try. We ordered the crab cakes as an appetizer which came with a cilantro lime aioli that was mind-blowing! All the different flavors complimented each other so well and the appetizer is a must try! I ordered the short rib ravioli as the main dish which came with assorted sauce that enhanced the whole meal greatly. All the dishes were amazing and I would definitely come back to try the other dishes. Service was incredible because the waitress described the different dishes and how they were created by the chef. The mood was calm because the restaurant was about to close in an hour so there were not many customers. I would recommend making reservations in advance because the restaurant will run out of reservations in a few days! Passing through and wanted to find a place with great atmosphere and great food. We landed a gem! We didn't have reservations so they took our name and number to call us while we walked around. They called within 10 minutes. The staff were all friendly and worked well together, a true team going after the goal of providing great service to everyone. Graciously explained the menu, checked up frequently and ensure we finished our appetizer before the meal came out....I always hate when that happens. I recommend the quail appetizer, the bacon wrapped duck and ahi tuna for entree. read more

An extremely positive experience with service, quality of food, quietness, and views. Our server Abe, was observant to our needs and a valuable asset to your restaurant. Since it was my wife's birthday, we ordered the Sparkling Framboise (champagne with chambourd and a raspberry to top off the cocktail). For the appetizers, we chose bacon wrapped dates and potato trout cakes. The trout was smoked and delicious. The bacon wrapped dates had an almond in the center, what a treat! Our lunch included macaroni and cheese (sharp) and tasty, beef brisket panino, and a tuna melt for our mother in law. Dessert was bread pudding with a vanilla raspberry sauce. Yum. Unfortunately, I forgot to take photos of our servings; however did take a few of the restaurant. This was our first visit and we'll certainly return for another visit. read more

Definitely a 5 star restaurant! Over ordered and over ate. Shared a great beet salad, bowl of French onion soup- served in a bread bowl. Shared a special- sea bass, served over a bed of couscous- with lots of fruit for flavor. Duck dinner - apple in the middle on top of mashed potatoes- excellent. A bottle of red house wine from winery owned by waitress sherrie"s family- good also. Gluttony- ordered a slice of frozen lemon sorbet type desert - excellent also. Fun place. read more

High end? Who ever said this place was high end dining has no clue what the concept is. For some reason the Painted Pony has been painted as St. George's finest. Just ask around and you'll likely hear from folks that it's regarded as such. Well, of course it all depends on perspective but if you're educated in good food and ingredients you'll understand this review. Painted Pony is at best mediocre. The prices are slightly higher than George's (neighboring restaurant) but the food is literally comparable if not equal. My wife and I were gravely let down and unimpressed with the quality, taste, preparation and the outcome (we are both farting profusely 30 minute after the meal). Nothing stood out as memorable and there wasn't anything to lay claim of high quality food what so ever. My patty melt had no melted cheese, the fries were soggy and surely from a frozen food bag, the drinks were as usual in Utah (not worth the money, especially at a spot like this that charges $12.50 for a tiny marg that barely has any kick). None of our meal plus experience was above 2 stars. Nothing. The service was good and our waiter was very chipper. Perhaps he had a few too many sodas but whatever he was fine. The Painted Pony is mediocre... go to George's and save a few bucks. Seriously. read more

Had the best experience here for dinner. I was in town for a quick girls trip and picked this based on other yelp reviews. It did not disappoint. I started with a Prosecco and Chambord cocktail, sweet and delicious. My friend and I both ordered the tenderloin for dinner, but followed the advice of our amazing server, Charlie, and did the larger tenderloin portion for a few dollars more. It was fantastic, maybe one for the best steaks I've ever had. I added a glass of rose' with my dinner, light and crisp. We ended the meal with the chocolate cake dessert and an espresso. It was the perfect meal. I have raved about Painted Pony to anyone who would listen. If you are driving through around lunch or dinner, just stop here. You won't regret it! read more

We've been to St. George so many times and this the first time we tried Painted Pony. We didn't realize that 1. Restaurant is on the mezzanine and no elevator access, and 2. There's another parking lot with handicap access. So I ended up climbing up two flights of stairs. I had my walker with me so my husband carried it up the stairs. I'm not sure if more signs were needed or that I should have done more research? I did note on my reservation that I need wheelchair/walker access. Should they have called me about the handicap access? Was I expecting too much? I don't really know. Once seated, the view from the window was pretty. We could see parts of Ancestor Square. Dinner started with an heirloom tomato and mozzarella salad, accented with jellied balsamic vinegar. That jelly cubes were tasty. Overall, the dish was tasty and refreshing. But I could have done without the finely chopped onions on top. But I guess they have to use the insides of the hollowed onion for something. They had two soups--carrot jalapeño and French onion soup. Presentation of the onion soup was very cute. It was served in a hollowed out onion. Lots of cheese and caramelized onion. While the broth was flavorful, it was very spicy and delivered a very spicy kick to my throat. I couldn't see a speck of pepper so I was wondering what made it spicy. Also, the cut onion made me tear up. I didn't finish the soup, it was just too spicy. Now the main course. I chose the hanger steak served with red wine reduction with --you guessed it right--caramelized onions! Served with a side of giant broccolini topped with--good guess again--- sliced onions and spiraled truffle potatoes. The cut of the potatoes remind me of the ones we eat at fairgrounds. I really loved this dish! Made up for the taste of the onion soup. My husband ordered duck breast with some apples and stuffing. His choice was excellent too. My daughter chose the grilled tenderloin. It was perfectly cooked with a bit of truffle flavor she said. We were too full from dinner but still opted to get the frozen lemon soufflé for dessert. I was looking for a palette cleanser. It was too pretty to eat! It had a couple of layers. What I thought was a layer of lemon sorbet was actually a layer of lemon custard. Lemon custard is made with eggs. I myself have a hard time making lemon custard without tasting too eggy. However, this was too eggy for my taste. The next layer is some type of cream with lemon zest. That too was eggy. The best part of this dessert was the shortbread cookie. Still not sure what made it frozen. Overall presentation was great. On a recent visit to St. George for vacation, we decided to give this place a try. We had a 5:15 reservation and showed up early and sat at the bar. We decided to have our meal there because it was comfortable and we had settled in. Abram was our server and what a gem he is. We had great conversation before it got too busy (we are chatty lol) and he gave us recommendations. We chose the Brie cheese/berry compote appetizer (which was to die for with the sweet and savory combinations) and the rib eyes with fried bleu cheese dollops on top. O M G....I'm still thinking about that steak! It was cooked to perfection (med/rare for me) and was so big I had leftovers for dinner the next night. The reduction on top gave it perfection. The ambiance here is charming and I didn't encounter one person on the staff that wasn't friendly and/or helpful. Keep it up PP, I'll definitely be back if out your way again! read more

Painted Pony is the perfect example of a 5 star establishment. The location, customer service, and food are absolutely exceptional. The dining room has a very romantic aesthetic, and there is a a beautiful outdoor patio as well. Our hostess, Mandy, was so sweet and went out of her way to help understand the menu. I am usually vegan and can't have sugar, which usually limits my options. Upon hearing this she made a special request to the chef, Alex. He made the beautiful dish pictured (The Napoleon) and adjusted it to fit my needs. Our waiter, Abram, was also very warm and helpful. As far as the food itself is concerned, I cannot recommend it enough. The flavor and texture of my dish was just phenomenal! I also tried a bite of my boyfriend's Mediterranean Salad and the dressing was incredible. We will definitely be back next time we visit St. George. read more

We heard a lot about this being the best restaurant in St. George. I completely disagree and if this is the best restaurant in St. George, I'd be worried. We had made reservations. Reached and asked someone at the door that we had a reservation for two. She looked lost. Someone else came and took care of us and after a 5 minutes wait we were seated right away. Our server was great. Very attentive. No complaints. Suggested a great wine. The place had a nice ambiance. We got the quail and risotto starter. It was good, not great. Had a smoky flavor but nothing extra-ordinary. For entrees, we got the rib eye and the rack of lamb. This is where things started going really downhill. The steak was so under seasoned even though it was apparently pepper crusted, the stilton fritters were just gross and the green beans, just okay. We weren't paying for the green beans!! The rack of lamb hardly had any flavor, I couldn't even see the crust, the parsnip timbale had a weird texture and the whole dish was rather off putting. We had to get it to go because we just couldn't eat it and we hate wasting food. We got desserts, chocolate cake and creme brulee and both were pretty good. The chocolate cake was gooey inside. The 3/5 rating is because we ended on a good note. I started feeling sick after I left. I'm not sure what part of the meal it was but it was right after I ate. For $150, I got sick, had terrible entrees, an okay appetizer, and some good dessert. I wouldn't say that was money well spent at all. When previewing this restaurant, I decided to look at the 1 and 2 star ratings. There are 10 total. Most had a certain air of arrogance or entitlement about them. Curiosity caused me to see where these reviewers were from. Of those 10, 8 are from either from California or Nevada. After spending over 50 years in California and seeing the blind decline, it made total sense to me. We plan on visiting The Painted Pony for lunch tomorrow prior to attending The Buddy Holly story at Tuachan, then on July 4th watching our Toquerville parade (kids marching down the street banging pots and pans). A SURPRISE find in St. George, for sure! A really nice area, parking and suitable for an after dinner stroll. Nice location, VERY GOOD FOOD -- and lots of selections/option to choose from. Our orders the Beet Salad, Coconut Shrimp , Grilled pork chop with blue cheese stuffed pear w/walnuts & corn pudding and the Spinach salad w/ grilled salad. Incredible!! Compliments to the chef for creating a clams and linguine dish that rivals our favorite restaurant in Venice Italy. Although our visit to St. George was only two days, we managed to squeeze in one lunch and two in dinners at this establishment because it really is that good!!! Service was terrific! Rockford is both a wonderful server and amazing bartender. He's actually one of the main reasons we kept coming back! Ambiance is perfect. Settled in the Antique Square of St. Charles, it can either be a romantic date night out with a beautiful view of the pond below or a quick casual but upscale lunch. The chef here truly nails it when it comes to food plating, temperature and texture. French fries come out hot and fresh, salads are crisp, steaks prepared perfectly, pasta served al dente and soups served piping hot! Charming, darling, delicious!!! We were in town and heard from a local this is one of the best places to dine. Couldn't get a dinner reservation so we were glad to grab one for an early lunch. We were first guests to arrive and as a party of 3 sat at the coveted private "painted pony" table in a sunny and lovely nook. The server was so accommodating and really helped to suggest some delicious wine selections to complement our meals. We chose the Turkey BLT, the brisket panini and the special: a meatloaf sandwich that day. All were delicious. Would say this place is perfect for a ladies lunch, Sunday brunch or romantic dinner. This restaurant is fantastic! We were visiting from San Diego, and the front dest at Entrada highly recommend we go here for dinner and drinks. We sat outside on the patio, it was a warm evening, but they have misters, which make it perfect! The service from the hostess, to the busboy, to the waiter, Luke, was excellent! They all made excellent recommendations, and we had a wonderful time! Highly recommend if you are visiting Saint George. The shrimp appetizer was incredible! Let's talk about finding an unexpected gem in a little town. Google maps takes you on a goose chase trying to locate this spot, but don't give up the restaurant is on the second floor and well worth the hunt! Started of with the mussels, main dish was the bacon wrapped duck and finished with the house special Frozen Lemon Soufflé! Over all they were all outstanding, but I will come back over and over for the bacon wrapped duck. This was by far the best duck I have had in my life, seasoned just enough to not take away from the perfectly cooked duck. The staff was welcoming, knowledgeable and maintained great conversation about other famous restaurants from my little home town of delights, Las Vegas. read more

Overall a wonderful experience. The 2 times I went, there was a little bit inconsistency in the quality of service. Also, one time the burger was juicy, the next time the same burger was overdone. So the chefs kind of need to get on the same page of meal execution. For those needing a handicap entrance, there is a ramp on the West side of the building, that goes up to a side door that will take you to a hallway and then past their restrooms to the hostess stand. The ambience is wonderful, and the menu is a good variety. It's a new favorite. read more
