Definitely not Italian. A wonderful mix of menu choices. Our party of four had three different salmon entrees and one enchilada with mole sauce entree. I had salmon with vodka dill sauce, potatoes Au gratin and blanched asparagus. Other salmon entrees were salmon with chili rub, black bean and corn salsa, saffron rice; the other salmon entree was salmon with green mole sauce, rice, and blanched asparagus. Dessert was fantastic! Crepes with pecans, ice-cream with strawberries and burned sugar caramel. When you get your bill, it is higher than quoted on the menu, like 20-25% higher. I brought this up to the owner over 6 months ago, he said he was in the process of reprinting the menu. Just amazing! I love it!! There are few places in town where you can say that everything is good, but this is one. Wow... what a pleasant surprise! My wife and I stumbled upon this little gem after originally planning on going elsewhere, yet decided to try something new. We are definitely glad we did! The food was AMAZING, and the service was excellent. My wife ordered the Chilaquiles and I had the Chiles en Nogada. The flavor profile of both dishes was incredibly complex and well thought out. Just heard about this restaurant a couple of weeks ago and have gone twice. I've had the chicken with mole negro and the mahi-mahi. Both plates were excellent. It reminded me of eating in a good Mexico City restaurant. I instinctively ordered a dessert and coffee after the meal which is something I never do. Wow! What a fantastic experience. The gentleman serving us was great, the restaurant was clean and gorgeous, prices were more than fair for the quality, bathrooms were spotless, and the food was INCREDIBLE. Came here with my family and we all tried each others plates and every one of us had food envy of the others food. We went to this placee for dinner. the waitress told us that they were very busy. That we could sit down but it would take 45 minutes before we get served. Another waitress then said that it wouldn't be that long. We sat for 5-10 minutes without any drinks. Another couple came in right after us and were served water immediately. The is probably my favorite place in town. It's tucked away off of Avenida de Mesilla so I think it gets over looked. In my opinion it's by far the best food in town with a diverse menu. My favorite is the emoladas with mole sauce. It has a nice relaxing outdoor patio or you can sit inside to get a more romantic atmosphere. Moving to Las Cruces put us into food shock! We're Foodies from CA where you can find fantastic food on every corner. So far our experience in LC has been average at best with a yummy dish tossed in every now and then. We've accepted that as the status quo. But then we found Paisano's! I took my mom here for her birthday and they did NOT disappoint! We beat the lunch rush in and sat in a booth (the restaurant quickly filled with local business people, ladies who lunch and larger parties) with a gorgeous view of the mountains and desertscape. The interior is nice and clean and we loved the Spanish Guitar music playing in the background. We were greeted by our waitress (Maria) who was sweet as they come! We had a few menu questions and she was not only knowledgable, but I love the 'yummy' faces she made as she described the food with such passion. We shared a Tijuana Twisted Cesar Salad that includes delicious Parmesan Crisps. I'm not going to lie, I was expecting something a little more "Twisted" but it was tasty despite that (would love a creamy Cilantro/Cesar dressing with toasted Pepitas..hint hint!) and not drowning in dressing (thank you!). My mom enjoyed the shredded chicken crispy tacos and I the battered tilapia tacos. DELICIOUS & FRESH! The wine was fantastic as well. LOTS of food at a very reasonable price. Each plate had 4 (yes FOUR!) tacos and we each packed up 2 to go. The complimentary chips and tomatillo based salsa were absolutely delicious as well! When we were done eating, Maria brought my mom a complimentary piece of cheesecake topped with strawberries and wished her a Happy Birthday! So thoughtful and sweet! I know I'm throwing the word DELICIOUS around quite a bit but I can't think of other words to describe the food. Simply delicious! Thank you Paisano and Maria! I am FINALLY excited about going back to a restaurant in Las Cruces!!!!! Going to have to make their Tomatillo Salsa and pour it over Grilled Shrimp! I bet it's going to be amazing! On a final note, I'm sorry to see the poor reviews on service because we had an EXCELLENT experience. Also, a standard wine pour is 6oz but many restaurants do 5oz to get more servings per bottle so hopefully the under pour was less than that. We didn't have that issue (it's surprising how little that amount is compared to an 'at home' pour! LOL!). As for them running out of food..that IS unacceptable. Hopefully the Owner reads the Reviews here and has made changes accordingly because this place is DEFINITELY one I look forward to returning to!!!! read more

Prices and decor are a bit higher end than many of the restaurants around but the food was very good. I enjoyed folded enchiladas with mole verde with pumpkin seeds. It came with delicious black beans and rice. Highly recommended. Spouse had chicken enchilada which was a work of art as it came decked in shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, shredded red onions and a snowstorm of dry queso. Heat was gringo friendly. read more

Who cares about the decor..this is Mesilla not Miami. The food was outstanding. Ordered the eggs benedict for breakfast. The green chili hollandaise sauce was wonderful. Husband ordered the huevos rancheros with both the red and green sauce and it was ridiculously good. The service was great. The girl who waited on us was darling. Attentive without being overbearing. This was our second visit to Paisano Cafe, the first time it was for breakfast and this time it was for lunch. Both times, we had GREAT food. New place in Mesilla that we wanted to check out. And a very interesting menu indeed. Interesting choices and we were hungry so we set out to try as many dishes as possible. Well we went on a Sunday around Brunch time. Well that was a bad decision. There was a party of 30 that were waiting to place their order when we arrived. Unfortunately we waited over 1 1/2 hrs for our food. Yeah most people would have walked out but at the same time, our waitress was really nice and they gave us complimentary chips and salsa for waiting so long. Finally our food arrives, some of the plates had great presentation but it's all about the taste. I ordered the Mesilla Benedict, excited to try a green chile hollandaise sauce. The sauce was runny/bland and the green chile had no tast (tasted like bell peppers). Hollandaise sauce is normally creamy, this was flat out runny with no flavor. My palate couldn't make out any distinct flavors. Great presentation but it just wasn't there taste wise. Everyone else thought their dishes were just okay. I mean for waiting that long I wanted my food to be spectular and knock me off my feet since we had heard so many good things about this place.I would give them another try next time I'm in town. My family brought me here in late January and I finally have the time to write a review. It's off the beaten path, but worth the stop. Restaurant: At first the neon signs pointed me in the direction of thinking it was a small locals dive bar, but upon entering I was straightened out and it is a very classy restaurant. (wish I took pictures). One thing that stood out the most is the constant guitar music during our dinner, and this happened to be live music. Thats something I haven't seen in some time. Food: We started out with an order of antipasto skewers and they were fantastic!!! I had the fire grilled swordfish and wished there was a restaurant like this in California, but more reason to visit family more. Everyone else at our table enjoyed their dinner, and is a reason my family visits this restaurant often. My father likes to have wine during dinner and was telling me on one occasion they didn't have the bottle he usually had. So the owner walked across the street to the winery and brought the bottle back for my father. I can't wait to be back. read more

We almost didn't come here for dinner after seeing their prices on their online menu. The food sounded delicious, so we gave it a go. It is hidden in a small shopping center across from the St. Clair Winery & Bistro. It has a small patio, a bar and the dining area. The server was new, but another server helped us make some choices from the menu. We had the Paisano Shrimp. Sautéed jumbo shrimp in green chile and sun dried tomato mojo, Served with a side of white rice and black beans. The shrimp was tasty, but not spicy. The beans were amazing. When I tasted them, this sweetness snuck up on me, and I realized it was a banana flavor. They puree plantains into their refried black beans. OMG! SO GOOD! Another had the Gambas al Coco. Panko coconut breaded jumbo shrimp smothered with sweet and spicy Jamaica flower sauce served with mango-jicama guacamole and white rice. Since she usually orders a side salad when we go out, I took it as a great compliment that she really enjoyed the shrimp and ate them all. I enjoyed the coffee pork tenderloin as recommended by the waiter. It was so good. My mouth began watering from the moment it was set in front of me and I inhaled the rich aroma of coffee and sweet pork meat. I had a glass of Cabernet, which I really enjoyed with my pork. This is the most beautiful view in mesilla valley I have seen. With great service and even better food. We started with a queso/fondu appetizer with green chili. It was delicious and a great starter for our evening. We ordered the sea bass with pico de gallo and squid rice and the milita pechuga which were devine. But once we waved at the manager and he sent the waitress over again, things picked up. We had sautéed mushrooms with cheese on fried bread for the first course. Mango salmon was delicious. I've made the mistake of coming here for lunch and point made-- I will never come back! I understand the lunch rush but honestly there's no need for rude, petty waiteresses. My co-workers and I waited 15 mins until our orders were taken. The server was rude right from the beginning! After our order was taken, another 10 mins passed by until she realized that we never received our drinks. Then she made the excuse that there's only one chef so the food would take about 30-45mins-- to be honest, we've waited about over hour waiting for the food!!! Upset with the customer service experience we were was having, we've decided to take it to go! Wait... that wait time didn't include the time when the server finally decided to take our order!!!!!! For the cherry on top--- the server failed to mention that the creditcard/debit card machines were not working and the owner was only taking cash! For me that was the last straw, I was stuck because I didnt have available cash to pay for my meal. Thank god for one of my coworkers having cash in hand. If it wasnt for him, I would have to leave my credit card information with some un-trust worthy servers. Plus, once we were leaving , more customers were arriving however I did mention to them that the owner credit card machine was not working--- Something he was failing to mention! We were traveling through Las Cruces on our way back to California from Texas. We stumbled upon this gem. The restaurant was clean, the staff was very friendly and the food was excellent! The waitress, Ruby, was extremely pleasant/friendly and gave us great recommendations for what we should order. In addition, it was very close to the Hacienda RV resort. When you pull into the parking lot, you're not sure you're in the right place but believe me you are! We had the Chiles En Nogada and Enmolada Con Mole Poblano along with their chips and salsa. It was all very tasty and wonderful. We have already recommended it to our family and would recommend it to anyone else who loves Mexican food. We even got some of their salsa to go. Visited Paisano Cafe this evening for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. I had heard from a friends that they liked it so we tried it. Best meal I've had in a restaurant in a while. I ordered the Pechuga Milita was stuffed with shrimp and wrapped in bacon with a Chipotle sauce, it was amazing. This came with a salad, not just any salad, it was presented well, big thin sliced cucumbers, carrots, purple onions, and fresh lettuce. The Bleu Cheese dressing was very good, not overwhelming. My wife enjoyed the Chiles en Nogada, the sauce was really good and the stuffing was very tasty. Kudos to the Chef. You have to try this place out if you haven't yet. Cheers read more

One of my favorite restaurants in Las Cruces. The mole sauces are wonderful. The meals have always been cooked to perfection. The food is creative and tasty. My husbands favorite is the Chiles En Nogada-yummy. I love the grilled chicken with Mole Poblano. There is a steak with truffle sauce that is wonderful. This soup might be hard to share 3 cheese chicken, subperb cheesy sauce, that also made a great accompaniment to the french fries that had a vinegrette infused into the chip. Mango salmon with a sauce that is absolutely FUNtabulous. The mole sauce on the side is a must just to try it with everything. The whole family agreed a new favourite restaurant is on our list.
