Very good dinner here with my wife. The Caper Tequila Shrimp Fettucine my wife ordered was excellent. We could taste the capers and the tequila playing together very nicely with the shrimp. My wife thought the Gewurztraminer (wine) went perfectly with the meal, but the one they offer is a bit sweet for me. I got enmoladas with chicken and mole poblano. Absolutely wonderful, slightly sweet and the right amount of richness. Definitely get that. Service was good, store very clean. We sat outside, where it was nice and romantic. I stopped in for lunch at Paisano Cafe and ordered the Grilled Chicken Breast in Mancha Manteles Mole Sauce. The meal came with black beans and Mexican rice. The rice was good and the beans were surprisingly good. Everything about this meal was superb. The flavors all blended perfectly. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the mole sauce was delicious....not with any pronounced chocolate flavor like so many are. This meal was most unusual for around these parts as most meals at Paisano Cafe are. Excellent production. Rate it an "A" for certain. The price was about $13.00...quite reasonable. The restaurant was comfortable and the service was just fine. If you want something different and high quality for around here give Paisano a try. There is simply no room improvement with this restaurant!! In every thing they do, it's evident that they LOVE what they do. From the tacos to the salads to - they even hold the market on hamburgers!! They are a Spanish themed restaurant, yet, I have never had a better burger, and don't see how I ever will!! They were running food and cleaning tables as quickly as they could. They always had a smile when they came to the table. They were attentive to our needs. By far the best food and service in our entire trip! Outdoor seating patio with Mountain View! The Queso fundido with mushrooms and green chilies was INCREDIBLE! They accommodated our every request- honey with our coffee instead of sugar, etc. we got tastey hot chocolates for our children- they were very delicious and not served too hot- just right! The Chicken Mole was the best mole we have ever had- While black beans were also very delicious! They had Al Pastor on special that day and it was delightful! Just the right hint of pineapple! Came here on the recommendation from our waiter at St Clair Winery. Very eclectic menu. This is not anything like a Mexican restaurant. This is fine dining. I had the pecan crusted Salmon with coconut rice and a wonderful salad. The Salmon was fresh and flaky. Cooked perfectly. The coconut rice also great. Velvet had the Salmon with Mole sauce. She said Yummy. Served with a basket of real tortilla chips. Not the bag kind but actual tortillas. The salsa was a white salsa spicy and delicious. Great wine prices. I was extremely disappointed having dinner with friends at Paisano's.Every booth seat was ripped and in need of repair. They were out of Moscato wine. My dear friend received a glass that was barely a quarter full and compared her glass to her husband and saw a substantial difference. She contacted the waitress, and the waitress said she was out, but did not offer the glass of wine for free.We ordered salsa that never came because they could not find a scoop to serve it. Very under priced and under rated. The woman who helped us was 1st class. Perfect English and Perfect Spanish. The chicken enchiladas with green sauce was awesome. The place could definitely put a sign out front so we don't drive by it, but really great food with a smorgasbord of ethnicities represented. My mom had French toast with strawberries and pecans and she loved it. I had a salad-spring mix greens instead of iceberg and fresh veggies and a killer cilantro lime dressing The whitefish with sun dried tomatoes and green Chile was an excellent dIsh. Found on yelp and stopped by this nice little local place as it's not too far off the freeway. Note: it's hard to find as there is no signage that we could see. But once we found it it seemed popular as quite a few people were there. A really odd menu that is a mixture of things not strictly Mexican food but all very creative sounding. I had enmoladas with cheese and chicken with the mole poblano and it was delicious. Three rolled enmoladas with a generous helping of sauce and rice and beans. The sauce looked interesting (black) but don't be scared, it's very good with a slight spice and doesn't taste of chocolate as mole can sometimes. Beans were also good. Rice was fine (a pilaf not a Mexican rice. Husband had Chile en Nogada (stuffed poblano). It was ok. Very creative ingredients but in the end the flavor was not exceptional, didn't quite meld together or lend anything to it. But still overall good. Worth a try based on the enmoladas alone. read more

Went here last night -- Thursday. I ordered the Paisano Shrimp and my wife ordered the fettuccine in poblano cream sauce. The salad that came with my order had to be the highlight of the meal. Fresh, crispy vegetables over a mound of spring greens, in a somewhat deconstructed style. Notwithstanding they were out of blue cheese dressing. Inexcusable. My shrimp came out lined up diagonally across a rectangular plate like "en brochette", but no stick. A mound of rice on one side and a black bean corn salad on the other. The shrimp came with a sun dried tomato green chile mojo. All quite tasty. However, the shrimp was way overcooked. Think of the toughest steak you have ever tried to chew on! The waitress did not seem to understand when I tried to explain to her that the shrimp was inedible? My wife's pasta came out rather dry and tired looking. The poblano cream sauce did not taste of poblano. It had a rather off-putting taste and was not at all "saucy" -- too dry. She ordered the same thing when we were there a couple months ago and it was fine. That's why she ordered it again and ended up leaving most of it on the plate. This one also failed on presentation. Just a bland looking white plate of white pasta. No color, no comparison. If these guys would spend as much effort on food prep as they do on presentation maybe they would fill the dining room up quicker. The other thing they could do (like many other places) is to teach employees hoe to deal with customer complaints. It's a shame. We always have high hopes of finding another place in the area where will enjoy going to eat. Las Cruces is so limited on anything but Mexican restaurants of which we have plenty, most all pretty similar. read more

There is no reason for you go anywhere else to dine when in town. My wife and I were in Las Cruces for one night and we dined here twice, dinner & the next morning's breakfast. For our dinner, who we were capably served by Jose, we shared a 4 Mole sampler appetizer which was incredible and for our main meal we each had Tampiqueno (grilled skirt steak), so flavorful. For breakfast I had the Mesilla Benedict, my wife the Chicken Paisano Wrap, and we shared a half portion of the Cafe French Toast. Everything was prepared to perfection and extremely flavorful. Our server, Isaac, was cordial and attentive. We live 6 hours away and I can't wait to return. read more

Hmmm. Ate there with a group tonight, maybe the 5th or so time I've been there. My previous entrees there were all good. Two complaints tonight. 1) I got a sort of weird size and shape (smaller and narrower than you'd expect) piece of chicken stuffed with 3 cheeses and spinach, and in a sauce. Great taste, but it only came with fries. Why not a green vegetable or a salad too? 2) Everyone in our party was assuming a tip had been included because all of our entree prices were higher than what we saw on the menu. Asked our server. Nope - she was told it was due to increased ingredient costs, and that the mgr. 'hadn't gotten around to printing new menus'. Well, the actual amount difference wasn't huge, but you don't expect to order something and be charged a different amount (I've never had that happen before). read more
