One of my favorite restaurants in Las Cruces. The mole sauces are wonderful. The meals have always been cooked to perfection. The food is creative and tasty. My husbands favorite is the Chiles En Nogada-yummy. I love the grilled chicken with Mole Poblano. There is a steak with truffle sauce that is wonderful. Daily soup potato pueblano. Best we ever tasted. This soup might be hard to share 3 cheese chicken, subperb cheesy sauce, that also made a great accompaniment to the french fries that had a vinegrette infused into the chip. Mango salmon with a sauce that is absolutely FUNtabulous. The mole sauce on the side is a must just to try it with everything. The whole family agreed a new favourite restaurant is on our list. After I ate here it made me so angry that I told my sister I couldn't emotionally engage with how bad the food was and how I felt about it. I knew my boundary. In other words this place sucked. And to make matters worse I had driven across the entire state of Texas that day and this was the only real meal I'd had, so a happy meal would've tasted good at that point. I remember back when I had a colonoscopy the first thing they gave me to drink afterward was apple juice. After that I thought apple juice was the shit for over 5 years. So what I'm saying is give me something when I've been deprived and it will become the best food I've ever eaten for a few years. But nope, even with that leg up Paisanos lost. I first tried to order guacamole and then my entree and they were out of crispy tortillas and walnuts. Then after having to tell me they were out of multiple dishes, the waitress suggested I try this chicken and French fries. This isn't that kind of restaurant guys- she basically offered me a kids menu choice. Anyways, long story short if you get into town late after a day of traveling this place will not do. We were traveling through Las Cruces on our way back to California from Texas. We stumbled upon this gem. The restaurant was clean, the staff was very friendly and the food was excellent! The waitress, Ruby, was extremely pleasant/friendly and gave us great recommendations for what we should order. In addition, it was very close to the Hacienda RV resort. When you pull into the parking lot, you're not sure you're in the right place but believe me you are! We had the Chiles En Nogada and Enmolada Con Mole Poblano along with their chips and salsa. It was all very tasty and wonderful. We have already recommended it to our family and would recommend it to anyone else who loves Mexican food. We even got some of their salsa to go. I would not recommend this restaurant until they make some significant improvements in service. The 2 waitresses trying to cover the entire floor is most inadequate. Basically 7/10 of the wines by the glass were not available. This resulted in a 30 minute wait to get a glass poured - well after soup and salad had arrived together. Entree arrived immediately after and was sent back. When served, it was obviously over-cooked and barely edible. Not a good experience. Management please help! read more

Last evening my husband and I joined a couple of friends for a meal on the patio. The waitress, a college student working during her summer break, was friendly and attentive. My husband ordered the swordfish, and I had the mahi-mahi. Both were delicious and we were happy until we received our bill. The bill we received was for mahi-mahi and seabass, not the swordfish we ordered. The seabass was $15 higher than the swordfish. We advised the waitress and she acknowledged that my husband did not order seabass but he was served and ate seabass. We disputed this and after discussion with the chef, the waitress (who was quite embarrassed at this point as she was only being directed what to say from the chef) informed us that my husband had eaten seabass and therefore we would be charged for seabass. My husband frequently orders seabass from other establishments and his fish was not seabass. Rather than continue to give the waitress a hard time for something that was not her fault, I paid the bill. I understand that restaurants are still struggling but to me, this entire incident was inexcusable. The mistake was of the kitchen staff, not ours or the waitress' and in my opinion, it is poor customer service to expect the customer to make up the cost for the kitchen staffs' mistake. Additionally, our friend was charged approximately $2.00 more for one of her dishes than what was posted on the menu. When asked about that, the waitress apologetically advised that the prices on the menu had not been updated and many of the dishes were a bit more than shown on the menu. What? My hope is this review reaches the owner, that the waitress retains her position (if she still wants it) and that changes are made. It's a pity because the food was very good. Essentially, the $15 overcharge cost this establishment the loss of four customers who will share their experience with others and will never return. Such a shame. read more

We went there for brunch and they told us that they stop serving breakfast at 11 (it was noon). I guess you hey saw my face of disappointment, because they let us order breakfast anyway. We moved here about 9 months ago and Paisano Cafe has become a favorite, for both special occasions and a regular night out. The four moles that comes with the enmoladas have incredible flavors. I go into decision paralysis when it comes to choosing which one to have. The queso with the green chile is addictive. We also love the mushrooms sauteed in a guajillo sauce and served on toasts. Everything that we have tried (all vegetarian dishes) has been unique with truly extraordinary flavors. Until last weekend, we had only been here for dinner, but after a particularly long week decided to try breakfast/brunch. Boy have we been missing out. I had one of the best egg dish that I have ever tasted. Tres Marias - perfectly cooked eggs on top of a quesadilla made with fresh corn tortillas smothered in an incredible green sauce. Like the moles, the flavors are really unique and absolutely delicious. I am a little puzzled why the winery and other Mesilla restaurants are packed and Cafe Paisano is often half empty. Its location is a few hundred yards off of Avenida de Mesilla, which may decrease drive-by traffic. The good news is that you will never have to wait for a table and you'll have a fantastic meal. The food here is definitely a notch above the neighboring restaurants, and the servers are always welcoming and attentive. read more

Unbelievable food! I'm a city flooded with great Mexican food this place stands out in all the right ways. The food is elevated and so different but never disappoints. This was my third visit. On my first visit I ordered dish ( forgive me but I can't remember the names) that was chicken stuffed with shrimp and assorted other things topped with this amazing sauce. Today I had Emoladas with their mole negro and stuffed with chicken. So friggin good. It's hard to find the right words to describe dishes that are so different from anything else in town but the food is just so good you have to experience it for yourself. Their mushroom appetizer was like nothing else I have ever had. Reasonable prices and great service. I will be back again and again. We have always enjoyed Paisano's but today we took three out of town visitors for breakfast and set out on the patio. We ordered three different plates, three of which were the mesilla eggs benedict. The waiter brought the two other plates and one mesilla eggs benedict and served those and after waiting about 5 minutes for the remaining to mesilla eggs Benedict plates we ask our guests to go ahead and eat while the food was still warm. About 15 minutes later the waiter came out and said that they were out of the sauce for the mesilla eggs Benedict. We said that we would have regular eggs benedict and he left. A few minutes later he came back and said that they had stopped breakfast service and would we like to order something else. At that point our three guests had finished their breakfast and we declined and said that we would just get something someplace else. I was very disappointed in the service. Went to lunch there and service was lousy. The waitress (gawdawful fake eyelashes) totally ignored my sister (who was paying the bill). She filled everyone else's tea but ignored her. No napkins, and I had to ask for another salsa bowl to accommodate the table. When I asked for a bowl of red salsa, she brought it in a "take out" container. My fish tacos were greasy also. Sister said her steak tacos were tough. Ambiance was terrible due to a woman nearby with her incessant talking. Several people nearby just shook their heads. I was hoping she would come up for air, lol We couldn't get out of there fast enough. Just don't go for lunch. read more

Originally planned to try the seafood on the menu. After seeing all the different mole on the menu we asked for samples just to try because this is apparently the most popular items ordered. To my surprise, because I'm not a huge fan of mole, they had the most wonderful flavor. Like nothing I have ever tried. Ended up ordering emolados with chicken smothered in the negro mole. This was our second visit, and was my last. We went for Saturday brunch, there was about 13 of us. The place was empty, there were only three other tables of two in the place. We ordered food, the waitress was prompt with drink orders and such. and then we waited....and waited.....and waited. Finally the food started trickling out...sloooowly...two plates, then a couple of minutes...two plates....couple more minutes...1 plate....10 minutes....by this time we had been there over an hour and a half. Still waiting....two more plates...5 minutes...two more plates...10 minutes. Two of our group ate, and unfortunately had to leave, before I even received my food. Two more, 4 minutes...1 more.....waiting...everyone's almost done...waitress kept saying 'your food will be right out'...still waiting...asked to speak to the owner, she went to check.... FINALLY brought my food. (which was mediocre at best...although I hear the mole was excellent) The waitress came back and said the owner didn't want to come speak to us, he was too busy! (by this time there was only one other table occupied) Didn't offer an apology, a free appetizer on next visit, a free breakfast...nada! Never going back, and unless you like to spend two hours waiting for food, that was certainly nothing to write home about...avoid this place!. Personal note to owner: Pretend for a minute, you own a real business. And that you make your living exchanging a meal-experience for money...and that you have no desire to talk to unhappy customers, who were not rude, pushy, or even very vocal about the inordinate amount of time it took to serve them. And then, you have the audacity to charge an 18% gratuity as well??? Pretend for a minute that your business was customer service...just pretend...what would you have done differently? read more

Wonderful food!!!! Service outstanding!!!! We had two forms of their mole and both were delicious. The server offered a skinny margarita and had to take several stabs at getting it right, but hey, she was willing to try to get it right, and finally did. We liked the food so much that we went back the next day for lunch before driving to Bisbee, AZ. The eggs benedict with green chile and asparagus were outstanding and the eggs were cooked to perfection. Highly recommended. It feels mildly like the owners could not quite decide on what kind of restaurant they wanted to be, but if you ignore some of the incongruities in the menu and decor, the food is EXCELLENT. Food - Two dishes I highly recommend: Mesilla Benedict - Eggs benedict with a green chile hollaindaise sauce. Amazing flavor, but not so spicy it is overwhelming. The dish has an excellent balance of creamy yumminess and that amazing local green chile flavor. They successfully transformed a standby breakfast offering into something unique and scrumptious. Croissant french toast - Sounds like a good idea, right? Well it was. The crunchy toasted pecans and some sliced strawberries on top are a nice touch, but the french toasted croissants are divinity unto themselves. Seriously. The best french toast I've ever had. Overall menu: Yelp calls the place Italian. The decor says European leaning toward french or italian. The menu is all over the place. I would call it multi-cultural or pan-european? Service - Our waitress was full of smiles and very attentive. When I asked for a recommendation, she gave me both what is ordered most frequently and what her personal favorites were. When I left my credit card at the restaurant by accident, they made sure to get it mailed to me as quickly as possible (I was leaving town). Overall, a good service experience. Ambiance - Incongruous is the best word for it. The actual architecture of the building is very nice. There are details that clearly took an investment of money and really make the place look quite nice. Until you look at the tables and chairs. The plain table clothes and glass covers can be overlooked, but the chairs just look cheap and like they might have stolen them from a hospital cafeteria. The patio tables and chairs are attractive, but the mismatched shade umbrellas make no sense. There's no clear reason why there should be three flat screen tv's mounted on the walls (it's not like it is a sports bar), but the fact that they were showing an infomercial the entire time we were eating is even more perplexing. It looks almost like they invested in the parts that are difficult to change, and went with the cheapest possible option on everything they could replace later - I hope they are successful and able to do so at a later date. With a bit of a face-lift on these details, this place could become a really nice restaurant. This is the only reason I went for 4 instead of 5 stars. read more

We live close by and our staple dining restaurant is Lescombes aka st Claire's. I convinced my hubby to give this place a try and soooo glad we did. The wine menu was a hit with my hubby ... he called it "old style, old country blends" we loved our pasta dishes! For the atmosphere, food and wine you can't go wrong! Our waitress Monica was superb. lady & i just finished doing our touristy things after driving all day. we were hungry and just wanted some good food. i'll speak for both of us and say we are glad to have found this place. i mean find it. it was dark and for some reason the streets are not very well lit. thanks siri! we arrived close to closing time. there were still a few people dining who seemed to be having a great time. every choice on the menu sounded delicious. The lady had Enmolada con mole poblano. She said it had just the right flavors and truly delicious. I concur-- coming from a non-mole eater. I ate the Fettucini poblano w/o chicken. Damn. it was so good. It was like eating a spicy alfredo sauce. Even though they messed up and put chicken in it first, they quickly fixed that problem. The waiter came back 5-10min later with a new batch. The food was definitely worth the wait. I didn't do too much yelping on other restaurants prior to this spot. But from what I saw, their prices don't seem to be too far off form other restaurants in the area. I'm not talking about cracker barrel and chilis or whatever's there. hungry? on a road trip? craving some real food not on a dollar menu? this place is worth a lil taste. read more

We came to this restaurant on a whim. We needed wifi, 4 star rating food at least and here we are. The decor feels slightly upscale and the large windows with the view of the mountains in the background make it unbelievably fancy. Cloth napkins included. We ordered a 14oz steak medium rare. The texture was perfect and absolutely juicy. The mashed potatoes were well seasoned and had corn it which was unique. There were also chunks of potato which made it extra tasty. The asparagus was crispy and juicy also. The house salad was surprisingly delicious, specifically with the cilantro lime vinaigrette. All in all it was a mouth watering meal. We were impressed with their attentiveness, quick service and they were genuinely friendly. We split meals regularly and are used to the split charge, which they don't have here. Score! We are definitely coming back. Next on our list will be the Chilean Sea Bass and maybe the cheesecake. My only critique is that they need to pick something other than the Gypsy Kings to play over the loudspeakers. Por favor! read more

This place is GREAT!!!... we come on Sunday after church with family and this was the best lunch ever. The hummus is very well seasoned and not watery, and the queso was absolutely delicious. I ordered the BLT wrap with the guacamole and it tasted so good I highly suggest it along with the tacos and the pecan encrusted chicken salad. One of my favorite restaurants in town! The food is always so delicious. They also have the best fries in town in my opinion. They're that nice crunchy beer batter type of fry like the ones at Spotted Dog, but they have a hint of like to them as well. We always get a side of them with our entrees. My favorite meal is the vodka dill salmon with asparagus and what's the word for it... potatoes au gratin? Something like that. They're just cheesy/creamy scalloped potatoes. Lastly, they're dessert is always worth the food coma. Rich chocolate cakes, creamy cheesecake. This place is a gem. I want to try and make it in more often. read more

Paisano is a hidden gem across the street from the historic plaza in Mesilla. Their green sauce that comes with tortilla chips is first rate we generally put it on everything. Love the huge Paisano wrap. Cobb salad great, too as well as fish tacos. read more

Wonderful breakfast. Huge mugs of GOOD coffee with refills when needed. I tried their version of eggs Benedict with green chili hollandaise. My partner who does not like heat/spice had same but with corn hollandaise sauce. Both served w perfectly crisp asparagus. Soooo good!!! Highly recommend either of these tasty dishes. read more
