We love the food here and continue to count it as one of our favorites. My fav is the Moo Goo Chicken and my husband loves the Sesame Chicken. They have lunch combinations that are their best deal. First visit here for dinner this evening. Palais De Jade is a more upscale Chinese restaurant. Our group ordered the dinner special for $28 per person. It was tons of food for the money. We started with hot and sour soup, very good. Then came the appetizer tray with crab Rangoon, short ribs, egg rolls, and pork pouches. All of the appetizers were flavorful and hot. The table was also stocked with soy sauce, hot mustard, and sweet and sour sauce. Then came the entrees. We got the pork chow mein, sweet and sour chicken, and Szechuan chicken. All three were great dishes. Overall, no complaints on the food or the service. Waters were refilled quickly and my dad's iced tea was refilled at least 6 times! However, I would say the value for dinner is a bit pricey. The lunch specials looked like a great deal though. read more

I can't understand why this place only has 3 stars! We've ordered takeout from Palais de Jade twice now and have been blown away both times. One of the must-not-miss dishes here is the crispy duck. It is so freaking good, definitely the best takeout duck we've ever had! It is tender and juicy and so enjoyable to eat with those fried biscuits that are served on the side. They include a little sticky duck sauce but it definitely does not need it! Seriously, you can't skip the duck! We've also enjoyed the wonderfully seasoned fried rice with big pieces of BBQ Pork, egg, and veggies. The color of the rice itself tells you that they were not shy with the sauce! The calamari appetizer was also super tasty and tender, and NOT as spicy as other Yelpers say, if anything it's just peppery. The time that we picked our order up in person, the staff was helpful and kind. When we ordered delivery, the meal was ready super quick and still arrived hot and fresh. We can't get through a Palais de Jade order without making little grunting sounds and looking at each other like, "are you kidding me?" It's just that good. Had the orange chicken today all though delicious in taste as always i should have asked for crunchier orange chicken maybe next time? White rice for 3 with soy sauce was plenty and delicious. We also had a shrimp chow mein with unbelievable flavors and my shrimp were grilled well done to perfection. Haven't been for at least five years maybe longer, so thought we'd give it a try for To Go. Two orders, kung pau chicken and pork fried rice, $34 plus. . Wait! What?? Not one fortune cookie! That was so disappointing. Food was ready shortly, hot, and extremely Bland. Picked up at 5:30 Restaurant was slow. But so disappointed from years ago when the food was really good. Sorry to say we won't try that again. Such a lovely setting, we know it had changed hands but not familiar with it history in the last 8 years. I'm sad for this once over the top Chinese restaurant. We have not been back to Reno for 31 years. Palais De Jade is still here and they are still run by the same people. We mainly came here because we could not forget the pot sticker sauce that we used to get from here. What set them apart is this sauce. However, our tastes have evolved over 31 years and have had sauces that we have loved. We now prefer sauces that are on the sweet size. The sauce was not what we remembered but it was still amazing. It is on the sour side and has a spicy kick at the end. The pot sticker filling and the wontons they are wrapped in is still the best. I could eat 2 orders of these. We ordered Chicken with Black Bean sauce. Holy crap! That was amazing! The black bean sauce is perfectly balanced with squash, peppers, carpet carrots, and onions. The onions were really sweet! The Beef Pan Fried Noodles looked like a lot when they came out. When we mixed everything and the gravy was absorbed, we had just enough for our hungry appetites. The gravy has more soy sauce that I have been used to but after the gravy worked into the noodles, the flavors balanced out. The beef was perfectly tenderized. I'm glad they know about the baking soda secret to tenderize the meat! The last dish we ordered was the a Walnut Shrimp. This is hands down, the BEST Walnut Shrimp I've ever had. It was perfectly breaded. Just enough to give the shrimp a little crunch with the sweet Mayo sauce. The walnuts were perfectly glazed and toasted. What I didn't like was the price. $25 for this dish. The shrimps were a good size but there was not enough of them for the price. However, I would pay $25 again for this dish but I wouldn't SHARE! The service was fantastic! We were never out of water and they cleared our plates as they emptied out. I'm glad they are still here after 31 years'. I hope they are still here when we come back to Reno! read more

This local restaurant has been consistently good for 30 plus years. It may not be "authentic" Chinese food but it has a great luncheon special that includes soup/salad, 2 appetizers, fried rice and a main course. The staff is very helpful and friendly. It has an older clientele but the Szechwan eggplant and the hot and sour soup had lots of flavor. The only drawback was that it was a little salty but it is a fun, quick luncheon spot. read more

Awful! Had a craving for orange chicken, got a take out order with white rice, seemed like a pretty simple order. The chicken was soooo tough it was literally uneatable! This is the "O.G." of Asian food in the area. I've been eating here since I moved to Reno in 1991 and the quality/consistency has always been solid. I'm well aware that there's better representations of many different styles of Asian foods around the area, but if you want to be assured that your meal will be presented in a classy way, that the service will be solid and that the food will be delicious, you should experience this restaurant. It had actually been quite a while since I'd visited and I was ready for another dose of this quality place. It really hasn't changed in all these years...classic "Chinese" decor, well appointed tables/booths, the classic vibe that you expect. I started with a large Tsingtao beer and my dining companion had a glass of Butter Chardonnay. I had to have their Hot & Sour soup. Traditional preparation and flavor. A little bit of their fiery Chinese hot mustard always adds the spice I like to this style of soup. We ordered the Po Po Platter next. A sampler of classic appetizers, with a flaming "BBQ Grill" in the center, served on a rotating tray, which included teriyaki beef skewers (with a chunk of pineapple and a maraschino cherry on the end), Chinese style ribs, large deep fried/breaded shrimp, paper wrapped chicken, fried "Rangoon" style crackers and egg rolls (2 of each). Dipping sauces (teriyaki and sweet & sour) accompanied this course. I opted for more of the Chinese hot mustard. A nice touch was a hand washing bowl of water because most of the selections were "finger food". My dining companion ordered the House Special Sizzling Seafood as their entree. A wide variety of fresh seafood and veggies served on a sizzling platter. Delicious balance of flavors and textures. I ordered the Kung Pao Three Delight. Classic Kung Pao flavors with shrimp, beef, chicken. It also had assorted veggies cut into little cubes in the traditional preparation. I have a very high spice level and always ask for the equivalent of a 9 star. Most places feel that a 5 star is as hot as the average palate can handle, but I prefer way above that level. Mind you, I don't want spicy just to be spicy, I want a balance of flavor and spice. Unfortunately, even though I made my wishes very clear to the waiter, the Chef obviously didn't believe what he was told and gave me the equivalent of about a 4 star. It was still delicious and the addition of some of the ever present hot mustard gave me some more "zing" without disrupting the impeccable balance of flavors. A large bowl of perfectly steamed white rice was a great accompaniment to the entrees. If you want the classics, this is a place you should try! read more

Off the busy road of W. Moana, you'll find Palais de Jade amidst a crowded parking lot. Very friendly greeting walking into the restaurant and the host knew immediately where my party was seated. Large group of 15 ladies so we were seated in the back room where we had plenty of room and didn't have to worry about the noise we created. Overall, everyone was pretty satisfied with their lunch. If you order off the lunch menu, you, in addition to your entree with rice, get the choice of two additional appetizers plus soup or salad. You will not leave hungry. My only room for improvement would be for them to take a bit more care with their "fried" entrees like General's Chicken and Lemon Chicken. Both were overfried, dried out, and difficult to cut. Came here for a birthday party - they had 16 of us in their backroom with two other groups. It was loud, but not unpleasant. The service was VERY good. The food was really good - I didn't get a chance to order what I wanted, but what was ordered for the group was excellent. Highlights - BBQ Ribs, Chow Mein and the Sauté Veggies - really good. I could make a meal of them alone. I would love to come back and order a few specialty items and give this place a real try. Soon. Palais to Jade is a long time Reno Asian fair favorite. They serve family style portions of a variety of different meats, fish and vegetable plates. Tonight I got takeout and just got some crispy sesame chicken for myself but you really can't go wrong with any of their dishes, always fresh and of high-quality. Service is sweet and simple although I've never attempted to customize any orders here, so I have no input on that type of experience. read more
