Had a sudden craving for good Chinese food. We hadn't had Chinese since we moved here. Did a Yelp search and found Palais de Jade with a solid review. The online order process was simple and quick. Confirmed with a text. I went in to pick up earlier than the ETA but it was ready! The food was great except for my favorite dish, chow fun. The noodles didn't retain the noodle shape and texture. Overcooked or maybe it's their style... the takeout containers need a little consideration too. Flimsy styrofoam just doesn't work (leakage!) After my hike today, I helped the closest Chinese restaurant with good reviews and a dine-in option; that's how I stumbled upon this fancy Chinese restaurant. Not really knowing it was fancy, we walked in with hiking shoes and pants coated with dirt. I didn't feel too embarrassed because of the low lighting atmosphere. Phew! My bf and I ordered two beef noodle soups and veggie spring roll appetizers. The spring rolls are basically egg rolls, which come with two kinds dip. The waitress was nice enough to allow me to sub for thick rice noodles instead of thin rice noodles. Since I am Chinese and from the Bay Area, I've had my fair share of good a Chinese food, the best ones usually from hole-in- the- wall type places. Since this was a fancier Chinese place, I guess I expected more. It was kind of strange because none of the waitresses spoke Chinese and this was a Chinese restaurant! I ordered in Chinglish, which is what I normally do in the Bay Area, but the girl Asian girl didn't understand me. This was the best dining experience we've had in a LONG time! Took my daughter there for her birthday. The food was delicious and the service impeccable! Everything about the evening was fabulous and we really appreciated our server singing "Happy Birthday" in Korean. They were all so nice, and really on point with the wonderful service. I've loved Palais De Jade for 35 years. Happy the owner finally retired and was able to sell the business. Happy to report that the food quality remains unchanged and we still love it. I do have to add the restaurant has always been dimly lit and relaxing. The new owner prefers to crank up the lights to interrogation levels and eating on premises is sadly no longer relaxing. We'll still do take out, but I'm shocked he doesn't get it. Asked multiple times, but it's a no-go on warm lighting. read more

Went for the lunch special and had Hot & Sour soup and Kung Pao chicken. As always, a great value for your money. The chicken was nicely cooked, with a good kick to the sauce. The recipe seems to have changed a bit, but still quite tasty. While nobody would ever call this "authentic" Chinese food, this place has been turning out consistently good meals for 30 years. One of the best Americanized Chinese restaurants in the Reno area hands-down. Most Chinese restaurants here I find to be more fast food quality. Not this place! You may get your food fast but it won't be fast food! Of course, along with any other cuisine that is positioned as gourmet, there is also a heftier price tag. I mention this to scare off those that don't want to spend, but if you're willing to dish out for quality dishes then you're all set. My personal favorites are the walnut prawns in cream sauce, crab rangoons, mu shu chicken, general tso chicken, mongolian beef, and BBQ pork fried rice. Haven't been here since before Covid. It may have survived the pandemic but it's food has not. The egg rolls or Spring rolls which is what they actually are were greasy and old and inedible. One friend had a chicken dish which she said was ok. My other friend had veggie lo mein and didn't eat it. I had Mu Shu Pork which had a strange taste to it and the serving size was half what it used to be. Food was disappointing. Service is still excellent but it's interesting that nothing is kept on the table. No sugar or sweetener. We had to ask for everything. I'm afraid we're going to have to find a new favorite Chinese restaurant. read more

I'd give the service a 5 star rating, The food id give a 3 star I had the sweet and sour pork. The egg roll had a different teast to it for me. The sweet and sour pork was not one of the best I've teasted it , it did have a nice crunch to it and the sauce didn't have a lot of flavor to it. The service was very attentive. I've heard a lot of positive things about this restaurant and the rumors were true! We came here for lunch [6/25/18] and the restaurant was filled! We sat down and gave a glance at the menu. The service was exceptional and respectable; they knew it was lunch hour and everyone seemed to help each other out. Having worked in a couple restaurants, I understand the importance of working together. While looking at the menu, someone approached our table to greet us and to say that although they weren't our server, she would gladly take our drink orders since it was busy. Moving forward with the food! Their menu has a lot of options, but not too overwhelming like some other Chinese restaurants have it. What always catches my attention are the lunch specials, or in this case Luncheon Combinations, which they did have! You can enjoy a soup, with some appetizers along with your entree. We ordered two luncheon combinations; Beef with Tomatoes ($9) and Szechuan Style Sautéed Shrimp ($13) with Egg Flower Soup and Springroll and Crab Rangoon for our appetizers. The egg flower soup was thick and delicious, a great way to start our lunch. The Szechuan Style Sautéed Shrimp was also very good. There were plenty of shrimp and they were pretty plump. It also had a nice kick to it, spicy but not too overpowering. My favorite was the Beef with Tomatoes. The gravy was so savory and I personally love tomatoes. I didn't think such a simple dish would be so good. Everything from the service to the food was on point. You can taste the quality in every bite. I've had the pleasure of ordering takeout and have attended a couple of special birthday events in the back room here and every time I've been served with quick and prompt service. The food is always excellent and they serve my favorite lemon chicken in town (it's a sliced-up breaded chicken breast instead of the little bits). Every bite of other food I've had here has been excellent and I find the pricing to be worth it. This is one of the only Chinese restaurants that I'll use for dine-in now. Certainly one of the best chinese food joints in the area. Palais De Jade delivers house made goodness by the dish. Everything we tried was cooked the way you want it to be. Crispy where it should be, salty when you want it and sweet where you expect it. The flavors are way beyond the overly sugary fare of it's competitors and there are unique hints and subtle background flavors abound. Staff is very friendly and attentive, and the ambiance is a step above the chinese food place you normally go to. I have been here a few times and the food is always good. I came here for lunch and was quickly seated. Hot tea and sale were ordered for drinks. Both were quickly brought out. The hot sake came in a hot water bath to keep it warm which was a nice touch. I ordered the lunch special which came with soup to start. The hot and sour soup is delicious. It actually had spice, but it wasn't overly spicy. It was loaded with goodies like bamboo and pork and tofu. The lunch itself was Szechuan shredded pork. It was really good with the fried rice on the side. The service as always was fast and friendly. Waters were constantly refilled and if anything was needed it was immediately brought. I will definitely come back. The food and the service has always been good and it is definitely worth the price for lunch. read more

Time to find a new Chinese restaurant. Been going there for 31 years. It's gone downhill. The owner/ manager never compensates for anything. I have only complained a couple times about a couple of dishes and he will never discount or do anything about it. The coconut shrimp appetizer was frozen shrimp out of a bag I'm Assuming and hard as a rock. I've had fresh shrimp there that smelled so fishy I can't order it anymore. The chow mein has too much oil and not much chicken. Egg rolls have a weird taste like cinnamon . And Mongolian beef is grisly. My family has supported this business for so many years.
