This is by far my all-time favorite paleteria!! I've been debating about writing a review for so long because I want to keep them my little secret, but I can't hold in my excitement any longer. I love love love paleterias, but they must hit certain criteria for me to want to come back: 1) Must have ice cream options for my magonadas. I'm not a fan of ice slush magonadas. Specifically, they must have freshly made guava ice cream with the seeds in it. 2) Must have a nice variety of flavors to choose from. See? Not asking too much. With that said, wow, Paleteria Azeteca blows #2 out of the water!! After a must-have trial of their magonadas, now when I come here, I just go straight to buying multiples of the fruit bars. Seriously, with that much selection, you'll never get tired of eating ice cream. Some have real fruit infused into the bar.. not to mention they make IG worthy pictures. The staff are super friendly and the prices are fairly cheap. The place looks and smells clean. They also do a nice job of double bagging to make sure your bars don't melt on the way home. Great local hole in the wall serving fresh, tasty, and affordable treats. I've personally only tried the paletas, but my family has probably tried 15-20 variants together so I think we have a decent perspective. My favorites personally are among the creamy flavors, standouts are corn, animal crackers, and most of the creamy fruits. Only downside there is there can sometimes be inconsistency due to their process, e.g., an animal cracker paleta had all the cookies at the bottom of the popsicle and none up top, but those are small gripes. Purchased a couple paletas- guava and lilikoi. They were delicious! Quality product with chucks of the the fruit in it. I would have given a 5 star, but the elder lady working the counter wasn't so pleasant. Maybe it was late and she was tired already. Who knows? I work customer service and even if you're having a bad day.... You gotta put that happy face on. If you can't, just go home and get some sleep! There are so many more flavors to try that I will come back. If I have to be served by that lady again and it's the same attitude, next time I'll just ask to be helped by another person. The place is such a vibe! It's clean and the girl that made the items was very nice and helpful (fast too!) I got the pepino loco and the mangoneada and was very pleased with both. Their paletas look very good and they have water based ones too (for the people that can't have dairy or might not like dairy). I will definitely be coming back! read more

Get your paletas here!!! I'm quite sure that we do not have paletas in Hawaii... in fact, I had my FIRST one in May of 2015! What are they? Paletas are Frozen fruit bars - like popsicles, but made of fresh fruit! The gal at the counter was so friendly and helpful! She said that this shop has only been open for about a year. She goes to the market every morning to purchase fresh fruit so they can chop it up and make fresh paletas daily! I can see how there WAS a paletas shop on Oahu, but it probably closed due to the cost. By the time fruit is shipped to Hawaii, it's expensive... Here, the price is so reasonable!!! In Los Angeles, fresh fruit is more affordable and available, and therefore, it's better to make paletas in LA! At this particular shop, there were unique combinations. There are water-based paletas as well as milk-based ones. Kenzie and I chose the ones that were the most photogenic - the Strawberry Kiwi and the Fresh Fruits in Cream... YUM! When you come, you may want to bring a cooler with you and stock up! We saw customers come in and do just that! That's quite clever - so you may have some of these healthy frozen treats in your own freezer at home during this summer heat wave! Genius! I'm looking forward to returning and trying some of the other flavors... and maybe getting more ice cream, too!! (I had the Rompope con Pasas which is Mexican eggnog with Raisins...delicious!!!) We were having an event and last minute thought of having a Palateria and unfortunately, since it was last minute, we had a hard time finding someone who was available. Luckily, we were able to find Palateria Azteca. I messaged and got a prompt response! Palateria Azteca is a family-owned business and you can tell they really take pride in their product (as they should because they're so good) and they take care of their customers. They were able to accommodate our request and our guests LOVED their paletas! Everyone kept asking about them and wondering how we found out about them because they were truly a gem to find. A few of our local friends who live in Tustin have been coming to this place for years but we didnt know about it until they recently posted on IG. One day we found ourselves in the area having lunch and wanted to get something to cool us down so we ended up stopping by to see what all the hype was about. The first thing we noticed about the place was that the selection of flavor was enormous. Between the milk and ice bars there were so many flavors to choose from. Paletas, popsicles, ice pops, call it what you want, Paleteria Azteca has almost every flavor imaginable! Paleteria Azteca specializes in handcrafted paletas (Mexican ice pops). There are juicy ones, creamy ones, fruit and nutty ones. They hand craft them in house and the number of flavors to choose from is astonishing... There must be at least 50-60 varieties on hand. I have tried about 5 or 6 of them so I'm still working through the list. I haven't had a bad one yet, all have been amazing. Pistachio - Decadent, sweet, creamy and packed with Pistachio. More concentrated in flavor than you average pistachio ice cream, they are somehow able to pack it in and make it creamier with a very dense pistachio flavor. Walnut - Similar to the the pistachio in that it's sweet, creamy and nutty. Strong, strong walnut presence in flavor and actual nuts. Of course the walnut nut isn't as bold as the pistachio nut naked, and same goes for the paleta. A very bold walnut, but if you're tasting this side by side with the pistachio, the pistachio is a little bolder. Guava - Creamy, sweet but not overly sweet with huge chunk cut pieces of pink and green guava in the pop. A must for guava lovers. Coconut (clear) - They over two coconuts, a creamy one and a clear one. The clear one is more like sweet coconut water with a lot of coconut meat pieces inside. Very good. I love both creamy and clear, I just opted to try the clear one since most of my other pops were creamy. Mixed Fruit - Raisins, cherrys, nuts, this has some of everything in a creamy red popsicle. This was recommended to me by the girl who works at the store as one of her favorites and it didn't disappoint. Seriously, they have every flavor here. Every time I come it's so hard to not spend $20-$25 for 10 paletas and just stock up. But if you do that, you better bring your freezer bag and be driving straight home to your freezer, because even though they hold for pretty long (still pretty hard after eating it for 10 minutes), they still will melt. Their paletas are either water based, milk/cream based or sorbet based and then some are dipped in chocolate, chili powder, etc. All kinds of fruit and nut flavors with creative combos like Chile Mango, Strawberry Cheesecake, Horchata, just to name a few. The choices are overwhelming, so if it's your first time, stick with your favorites and maybe add one new one to the pile. If you are curious about what's in each stick, just ask them, they are good at describing how each tastes. Highly, highly recommended if you are in the area. Their paletas are sooo good! read more

Stumbled upon this place by accident - I was at Roger Dunn down the street and wanted some dessert afterwards and this place popped up. I can't say no to paletas! This place is bright, clean, and was busy on a Tuesday night. That's always a good sign. The employees were super friendly. Their menu was overwhelming so I stuck to the flavors I knew and didn't want to take up too much time since it was busy. I also felt bad for the employee who got me because I'm so indecisive... she followed me from the non-paleta ice cream section to the bars before I decided. I got a mango chili bar and coconut milk based bar. Mango chili bar: soooo much mango chunks in the bar, I love it! There was chili powder with every bite. Although very tasty, this bar was too icy for me. I felt like my tooth would chip biting into the bar. Coconut milk bar: my SO got this and he is not a dessert person so when he says he loves how it tastes, I of course, had to sneak a bite. Creamy and coconutty with coconut shavings in every bite. Besides ice cream bars, they also have regular ice cream. I didn't get a chance to take a look at everything but I definitely want to come back to try more flavors and their ice cream. Also, this place takes card with a minimum purchase of $5 which is achievable considering all the tasty flavors they have. *****UPDATE***** I went back again the following day of my first visit (SO had to return back to Roger Dunn), so we got more ice cream! More icy than creamy today. I dunno why. I got the eggnog with raisins, and like I said, it was strangely icy. I remember it being so creamy last time. Lots of raisins though, and flavor was good. My daughter got the chocolate dipped in chocolate, coated with granola, and she couldn't finish it. I tried a bite, and I think the granola was too chewy. Located in a nondescript strip mall, this is a wonderful family run ice cream shop. I was warmly greeted by a young man who took my order and his delightful mother made it for me. They have many flavors of popsicles and a variety of ice cream flavors too. I decided to go all out and ordered a banana split with three scoops of ice cream: chocolate, vanilla and coffee. A sliced banana, chocolate sauce, whipped cream, sprinkles and a cherry completed the creation. The price on this (and everything in the shop) was significantly less than any other ice cream shop I've been in; this is THE place to come if you're tired of the overpriced gourmet popsicles and fancy ice creams and just want a good product at a bargain price. It was a delicious treat although the ice cream flavors were somewhat muted. There is no seating in the shop - it's more of a place to grab a popsicle or ice cream cone. For only $2.25, you get an absolutely delicious, juicy, FRESH, homemade pop made and served by welcoming, proud staff! There are water and milk based flavored popsicles - water is $2, milk is $2.25. Chocolate dipped pops, ice cream, ice cream sandwiches, milk shakes, tostilocos, and other snacks are available as well. I love how there are real fruit chunks in the fruit flavored ones. Staff stated they chop all fruits and make all pops in the back. Watermelon is my favorite and is not overly sugary like any artificial watermelon drink is. It's an actual watermelon! For a little bit of everything, try the "tropical fruit" flavor - it has strawberries, kiwis, and apples. The cookies & cream pop has the option to get a full oreo or crushed oreos. Strawberries and cream was good and almost had too many strawberries! My BF recently got the chile mango one which he didn't like because it was too salty. So far I have tried crushed Oreo (cookies n cream), rice milk, strawberries and cream. Crushed Oreo (cookies n cream): by far my favorite. There is a slight cinnamon taste, Oreos are t too crunchy when you get to them. Just so delicious! There is an option to have whole Oreos inside instead of crushed. Rice milk: good, but not too flavorful. Strawberries and cream: really good and popular with the kids, real strawberries inside. It was super creamy and had real chunks of strawberry. I got my mangonada with mango and pineapple ice cream. I got a size medium and it was perfect to be shared.
