Kee Mao Noodle with Shrimp
Lance N.

A few days ago, a few friends went looking for some Thai sauces and goods before going to the Palms Thai Restaurant. Now, I have been here before, but it has been many years, and it's changed inside as there was no more stage for Elvis to perform. The service was nice and pleasant for sure. As for my order, it was very good, but not totally expected. In the past I have ordered spicy at other Thai restaurants and they have a hint of heat. At the Palms, I would say it was a bit of a fire with the spicy rating. Hahaha... the flavor was good, but I was putting up a sweat and going through my Thai Ice Tea like it was water. Now I can take some heat and so I didn't mind the spiciness of my Kee Mao, but I will warn you to check your tolerances before going all the way up to spicy. Hahaha ... Enjoy, as I will definitely be back.

Absolutely phenomenal no frills Thai food. The decor is quaint and modest but the food packs a punch. Went here and had a delicious lunch. Both authentic and incredibly well sized portions. You will not go home hungry. We went with the catfish salad, phad thai, and chili basil stir fry. Everything was packed with flavor and it was probably some of the best Thai food I've experienced. Rich in flavor and the perfect level of spice. Everyone was very nice and the food came out quickly. Would definitely come back.

A long-time favorite of mine, my family and I have been coming to this place for years! They offer $5 valet parking. The menu is extensive, and you really can't go wrong with anything. My personal favorite is the coconut shrimp soup, it's flavorful, spicy, and one of my gos after a late night out.

I haven't been here for years and it's time to revisit. Hostess was very welcoming. Service was great and they're all attentive to the customers. Prices are reasonable and good food. They have shows at night. I will definitely come back more often. Thumbs up

Crab curry

Beef satays were delicious. Love the sauce & meat were tender too. Crab curry were a bit more salty & spicy than expected from a medium, although flavorful. We might have made a mistake of dunking the vermicelli into the bowl and mixed with all of the curry sauce. Probably would be better, had I spooned the curry crab on to the vermicelli sparingly and mixed in more curry as needed. There is a parking garage shared with the storage shop next store and entered from Bronson Ave. I went on Friday night and it was $5 all night. (Check their closing hours if you wanna use it for pantages parking, which is an easy 15 mins walk) Love all the cute wooden cat sculptures lined up at the ceiling.

My first experience enjoying Thai food was at a birthday celebration in December. It was a fun time. Palms Thai Restaurant is a great place for large group celebrations . The atmosphere is upbeat and lively. So the wife and I returned for a post Valentine day dinner. Once again the staff was very accommodating , nice and friendly. Food is fresh and delicious, served hot from the kitchen. I love the family-style dining so I could return to second helpings of the spicy water spinach (Morning Glory). Mixed vegetables are delish also. The shrimp-fried rice was so good with large shrimp throughout. Crunchy fried wontons with chicken Sa-Tae opened the evening. BBQ beef ribeye filled me up and was washed down with a delicious unsweetened ice green tea. Looking forward to our next Thai food experience.

2. Egg Rolls

Myself and a few coworkers decided to stop by Palms for lunch. The restaurant was fairly empty in the middle of the day so the service was fast and friendly. I had the friend wontons, egg rolls, and as my main course I had the chicken curry with a medium spice level. The wontons were a 4/5 for me. They were crispy and flavorful. I could eat those things all day. The egg rolls were ok (3/5), but I've had better. I really enjoyed the chicken curry (4/5). I got a medium spice level which was perfect for me. The chicken as well as the veggies were flavorful and tender. I would definitely go back for this.

We were going to tip well anyway, but it felt wrong -- like they wanted extra money rather than earning it through good service,
Mariana M.

Service was underwhelming and the food didn't live up to expectations -- especially for the price. What really left a bad taste was the automatic 18% "large group" gratuity for a table of 4 adults and one 3-year-old. That's not a large party by any reasonable standard. We always tip well, but this felt like they chose quick cash over long-term business rather than focusing on good customer service. We were going to tip well anyway, but it felt wrong -- like they wanted extra money rather than earning it through good service, since we only asked once for napkins and bowls that should have come with the soup, they never checked on us, and we even had to get our own to-go containers because they were too busy. After years of coming here, this experience makes it an easy decision not to return. There's better Thai food down the street with better service that doesn't feel the need to shake customers down for extra money. Heads up to other customers: this place is starting to feel more about money than customer care.

Great service. Elvis was in the House rocking his great songs. Food was excellent. Had great time with family here. Parking was easy.

Another savory, delicious and authentic Thai dinner at Palms Thai restaurant. The catfish curry paste, Thai omelette, Tom Kha chicken soup were few of the highlights. Staff are super friendly and nice. Ambiance is bright, cozy and comfortable with lots of seatings for large parties. Parking is valet only. A true Thai classic restaurant in Hollywood. Highly recommended!

Coconut soup

Service is sometimes a hit or miss honestly but I will say the food is really really good. Probably my favorite Thai restaurants in LA. The fried trout with mango sauce is really the star for my family and I , the crispy fried trout with the sweet mango sauce is just so delicious . The coconut soup taste better than other places . Parking is mandatory valet 5 dollars , not bad I guess being in Hollywood . The restroom has a funny story on the wall to read .

Victoria M.

Ordered: * Chicken Pad Thai- 9/10 * Combination Fried Rice- 8/10 The chicken pad thai was delicious! It was saucy and all the flavors were harmonious. I thoroughly enjoyed the combination fried rice. It was fresh, perfectly seasoned, and didn't lack any meat or flavor. Would definitely come back again!

Palms Thai Restaurant Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Palms Thai Restaurant

Do they take reservations?

Is this the same restaurant that use to be in the same parking lot with Ruen Pair?

Yes. But they moved over 15 years ago. And no longer have the Thai Elvis. Don't know if they still have stage singing weekend nights during Covid.

Does Palms Thai serve Jade Noodles, my favorite?

No, they sadly do not or that I know of.

How much does the valey parking cost? Do they have an on site self parking lot or garage and how much does that cost?

Free garage parking No charge

What time is the live band starts?

I've been there a few times various days of the week and I have yet to see one. I don't think they have a live band anymore.

Does everyone that come here pay for parking? Where else can you park without paying?

Yes I do pay for parking, we came in tonight and it was $5.00

A Thai restaurant I know used to have freshly fried shrimp chips as an appetizer. Like the fresh, high-end version of what you can buy in bags and markets. They took them off their menu. Where can I get these delicacies? Does Palms Thai?

What I do know is that Palms Thai Restaurant serves as an appetizer called the "Shrimp Cakes" which include 4 per order...and are served with sweet plum sauce. Hope this helps...… Read more

Is Thai Elvis still performing Saturday Nights?

No, unfortunately no. Thai Elvis went back to Thailand. But there still is a live singer (usually female), and that's a nice consolation.

What would you recommend for someone who can't eat spicy?

Yes. You choose your level of 'spicy'.

We started with the oyster sampler featuring selections from Hollywood, MD; Pope's Bay, VA; Buzzards Bay, MA; Chesapeake Bay, VA; and Wellfleet, MA. The oysters were exceptionally fresh and served with great accompaniments. We always order oysters when visiting seafood restaurants because freshness is so important to us, and Water Grill absolutely delivered. A must-order. The grilled Spanish octopus, served with fingerling potatoes, Niçoise olives, roasted tomato, pine nuts, and olive oil, was very good (3.5/5). We're fairly picky when it comes to octopus, and while we would have liked a bit more char, it was still among the better versions we've had. The New Zealand king salmon sushi with avocado, hazelnuts, papaya, and white soy-lime vinaigrette was fresh, clean, and delicious (5/5). While not particularly unique, it was executed perfectly. The crispy calamari with harissa aioli and cilantro-mint sweet chili sauce was also well done (4/5)--crispy, not oily, and very enjoyable. Calamari is another dish we frequently order, and this version met our standards, even if it wasn't especially memorable. The standout among the appetizers was the New Zealand pink bream ceviche with cilantro, red peppers, onions, lemon juice, and olive oil. The presentation was beautiful, and the flavors were incredibly fresh (5/5). We only added a touch of salt. This is another must-order dish. The Peruvian bay scallops with pistachio citrus pesto were somewhat underwhelming (3/5), and the Brussels sprouts with bacon and chestnuts (3/5) didn't leave much of an impression either. The lobster itself was excellent (5/5)--sweet, fresh, and perfectly prepared. The accompanying coleslaw wasn't our favorite, but we'd happily order the lobster again and probably go for a larger portion next time. The absolute star of the evening was the Massachusetts black sea bass. It was easily one of the best dishes of the night and possibly one of the best fish dishes we've ever had at a restaurant (5/5). Tender, juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. To top it all off, the restaurant surprised us with a complimentary birthday dessert featuring chocolate cake, vanilla cake, oatmeal cake, and ice cream. It was thoughtful, delicious, and a wonderful ending to the meal (5/5). Overall, Water Grill earns a well-deserved 5/5. The quality and freshness of the seafood were outstanding, the beachfront ambiance was beautiful, and the service was friendly and attentive throughout the evening. Definitely a must-try seafood destination in Los Angeles. Thank you to the entire team for such a memorable experience--we truly appreciated it.

The seafood is insanely fresh, the flavors are bright and clean, and you can taste how much care goes into every detail. The ceviches and tostadas are my go-tos but honestly l've never had something here I didn't love. Everything is beautifully plated, super vibrant, and the portions are perfect for sharing (though you'll definitely want to order more than you think). It's light but still satisfying, and I always leave feeling. good, not heavy. Pro tip! If you don't feel like waiting in the long line (which can get wild), here's the move: skip it and head straight to the counter. If there's an open seat, grab it and order right there. You'll get your food way faster, and in my opinion it's the best seat in the house. You get to watch the team plate everything with so much precision-it's lowkey mesmerizing. You'll feel like you're part of the action and the food always comes out hot and fresh. Holbox is inside Mercado La Paloma, which already has a fun energy, but this spot is the star for me. This time we got the whole sea bass entree (pescada à la brasa), two pulpo tacos, and the shrimp aguachile. I loved the shrimp aguachile, the fried prawn heads are so crispy and tasty. The sea bass entree was good and had a beautiful presentation, it was also nice for sharing, but the number of bones to pick out was a little annoying. That's what you get with ordering a full fish though! Not their fault. The pulpo tacos were tasty too, I love their handmade blue tortillas. But probably my least favorite of the bunch. Get the ceviche de atun! The aguachile was bomb too. And the live sea urchin is always good.

They had a couple tables outside that could sit 4 people. We didn't have a reservation but got there about 20 minutes before opening on a Sunday on lunch. People indoors seemed to be receiving their food just fine, but the larger tables outside suffered. For hours. We got pretty much zero communication on what was happening; it took almost 2+ hours to receive any cooked food whatsoever. The raw items came out 15-20 minutes into the meal, which meant that we sat for the majority of the time with no entrees and no updates. Keep in mind that one of the hot items we ordered was the clams and mussels - a steamed dish that was literally dumped into a bowl with a pile of raw garlic and fries on top. The broth had a strong alcohol taste that did not cook off. Super underwhelming and disappointing after the 2 hour wait. Moreover, dishes came out seemingly at random, so our table of 4 people ate at different times, with no coordination (I realize some items are family style here, but sandwiches are clearly not). It's not fun/convivial for everyone when some have already completed their meal, and others have not even taken a first bite of their entrees. Ultimately they did offer to take the bread and one tostada off or our bill. A concession, but by no means an acknowledgment of the unpleasant overall experience. I think we're going to give this place a long break. And maybe only come back on a weekday when they're hopefully less busy.
