Mediocre at best. Young lad taking orders was quite rude upon taking our order. That's fine, I'm not staying to eat. Ordered a latte, and an iced mocha. The roast they use in their coffee is quite good. No complaints there. Just not much variety to jazz it up. People come here for the empanadas anyways. I order a dozen just so we could try an assortment of what they offered. Empanada selection was plentiful and seemed to have something for everybody. Looked delicious, smelled delicious! Flavor was just not there for us... we've had much better empanadas. These seem to hold no value for us. Sucks because there's not many people that make decent empanadas around here unless you drive down to SoCal. Porto's "Chorizo Pie" alone blows all these empanadas out of the water. Just picked up a variety of empanadas from here not less than 30min ago. They are so delicious! Crispy goodness on the outside and full of flavor on the inside. The atmosphere was so nice ad relaxing right when you walk in, you don't really want to leave. The people that work there seem like just genuinely nice people. I've been to Pampas a handful of times and the empanadas are really good. Today my husband and I both ordered 2 large Cold brews on tap for about $11. When we both tried them they were extremely sour/bitter. We don't usually like to send things back, but that first coffee of the day being sour was pretty unfortunate. When my husband let the Cashier(who probably is the owner) know, she pretty much argued with him stating it's hot coffee and then cold on tap, that's why it's not as smooth as cold brew. Iced coffee isn't sour. She didn't offer a different drink. She was just as bitter as the coffee was! Arguing with a paying customer over your quality of coffee is pretty ridiculous. We left the coffee at the counter and she tossed them out, no refund. Won't be returning to this place due to the lack of courtesy and the old coffee being sold for $5 read more

Pampas is great, I feel really optimistic about this business. A very promising niche business and wonderful, diverse addition to sleepy same old Castro Valley. I visited on a slow Thursday afternoon and was able to speak personally with the owner for like 20 minutes in a low key conversation. The Humita empanada I had was complex and flavorful. The space is small but centrally located to the rest of "downtown" Castro Valley. I was able to learn a lot about this business. It is clear they create quality food and want what is best for their customers. It seems a lot of yelpers take issue with the price, which I think is funny considering specialty cupcakerys, boba teas, and other niche markets are similarly competitive-perhaps a bundle type rate for when you purchase more than 1 empenada? They told me right away about the Gluten Free option and that it would be a bit of a wait (8-12 minutes) but where else can you go where you can get something home made just for you? I look forward to returning here to try the other flavors and their coffee, which I have heard is excellent and fresh. Also, they do catering :) read more

Stopped by to get empanadas in the afternoon for a quick bite. They came out fast and they have these awesome little markings in the dough that tell you which filling is in there. Empanadas were delicious, would love to try more but I guess the price is a little steeper than I'd prefer. I love this place! Pampas is probably my favorite place to get lunch at in Castro Valley. I would go here more often but they are a little expensive. It's about 4 dollars for each empanada. I usually get the ham and cheese ones because those are my favorite! They are small but very filling if you get a couple of them. Like I said they are a little expensive but it is worth the price because you can taste the fresh and delicious ingredients in the empanadas and that's what you are paying for. If you go around lunch they usually have a variety of empanadas ready where you can just go and pick them up. But if you go at another time you may have to wait a little bit for them to make the empanadas. That's okay though because they don't take long to make and come out of the oven hot and ready! I also like the spinach empanadas. They have a variety of flavors and combinations of flavors that you can try from. I would like to try more of them. Also the place itself is small but they have a lot of seating for their space. Usually I take the food to go however I want to go to sit outside one day because the seating outside looks nice. I definitely recommend this place because the empanadas are outstanding. read more

My son, wife and I went here for lunch today. Its a small place with 4 tables with 2 chairs each. We ordered 6 different empanadas and 2 different types of alfajores. My wife was born and raised in Argentina. I've had many empanadas but only from one source. My mother in law. At first I thought pampas cafes empanadas were small. But they were stuffed. The beef were amazing. The chicken were Good. I've only had alfajores from Argentina that were packaged. So like hostess cupcakes. Pampas cafes alfajores were awesome. The coconut with dulce de Leche blew my mind. While I enjoyed the food. I wasn't impressed by the price that's the reason for the 4 stars. $9.50 for 2 empanadas. Add a drink and alfajore and you at creeping up on $15 per person at a cafe where I had to lean against a planter box because there was no seating. Definitely worth going with friends where you only have to pay for yourself. read more

This place is a little jewel! I love the outdoor eating area they have created. Parking is limited and the parking lot is awkward but it's worth it to get those delicious empanadas! The empanadas are always hot and very flavorful. I have tried the spinach, chorizo & chicken. Went to Doug's place and left pretty disappointed and emotionally unsatisfied from what was supposed to be a delicious brunch. Found this place on yelp cause I wanted good coffee, and CV has a bunch of cute little coffee shops. I just got 1 beef empanada which was SO GOOD, but yes they are very small and will probably only last me 3-4 bites. They're a bit pricey especially for the size, but wouldn't mind coming back for a quick to-go breakfast! The latte I got was good, nothing spectacular, but did satisfy my coffee craving :) read more
