I've passed this place a bunch on my way to work in DTLA and my friend was visiting me from DC this past week. She's vegan and we drove past this place and noticed a sign that they had vegan options. We stopped through and ordered some pastries (vegan for her, normal for me) and she also ordered some vegan corn tamales. I had a guava and cheese pastry that was super tasty and one of their pan dulce that was fine. Her pastry was a vegan coco panela, that was only ok. The vegan tamales were outstanding. They came with black beans and vegan crema. So good! I would come back for those. The prices were reasonable and the folks working here were friendly and accommodating. Great spot to have a quick home style breakfast. Food was delicious and coffee was good enough to hit the spot. The bread they make is good but was disappointed with the peperechas. The barely had any filling and were very dry. We bought some sandwich spread that I was only able to get when traveling to places like El Salvador which is amazing. Authentic panaderia. Walked in at 6:30AM, when nothing else is open. Greeted with fresh bread smells and Spanish. I pointed a few random breads and got a whole assortment. I loved them all! The staff seemed lovely, friendly, and so patient with my broken/non-existent Spanish. read more

To start, staff is not friendly and lack customer service. The employee was rude to me and was in a very bad mood. I went there today and bought some tamales; the tamales were served to us cold as if they were taken out the refrigerator. When i asked for the tamales to be warmed she said they dont serve them warm. Additionally, every time i come here the prices seem to be different; there's never a set price. One of the women in the family went vegan three years ago and the bakers worked with her to come up with vegan pastry options, which have been available since about April 2018. She was worried the vegan options might not take off, but they ended up being very popular. We tried the concha, a sweet bread that reminds me of Japanese melon pan, which I looove. The concha was so good. Also coffee cake (super moist) and a guava empanada-looking pastry, all of which were delicious. And for lunch food, we had a vegan turkey torta with vegan provolone and tofurkey slices, with bakery fresh bread. We were here for an event at the convention center and grateful that this was within relatively close walking distance. Definitely want to come back!!! read more

My friends and I were starving and wanted something good to eat before heading to Runyon Canyon, so we ended up at this amazing Salvadoran bakery. It's situated in a small plaza in downtown LA. Parking is limited but we lucked up and grabbed a spot as someone else was leaving. There's plenty street parking nearby so no worries. The line was long but it moved fast. Service was great and the prices were reasonable too. I ordered the El Classico (traditional breakfast) and an iced coffee to-go for about $10. The food was good. The bread was so fresh! read more

Yes, honey, yes! I missed this place so much! Before I was plant-based, my dad used to bring me pastries from this place. It's been years! Today, I had a vegan turkey torta (they do have a regular menu and a breakfast menu). I seriously don't know how they made it that good! Totally worth the $7. Also had the vegan arroz con leche. This place is great, if I feel like being a fatty and having vegan pan dulce or deserts I usually make the drive and indulge. Their food selection is always great, the customer service is also top notch. The owner's daughter has created a great community for central american breeds (like myself) who have been limited to food at family gatherings. I forgot her name, but she is great. Just going to start off by saying this place is great and I make a point to stop by pretty much every time I work near it. How we found it about a year ago (More about the place below): My sister and I happened to be working nearby and we just so happened to park right down the street from this place. As we walked past and saw it, it made us suddenly crave some vegan baked treats. Used to places not being vegan friendly, we said we'd look up a vegan bakery and see if we'd be lucky to have one close by. We jokingly said, "watch, this one comes up as vegan." We were pleasantly surprised when it popped up at the top of our search! We nearly ran back to it. All we hoped then is that the treats were good- THEY ARE. And they're well priced, which is another happy bonus. They have plenty of non vegan foods, a small counter of vegan baked goods, and a menu for vegan sandwiches and a couple of other options. It's a nice stop with picnic type tables to sit and enjoy your purchases. Another great update was a couple of months ago I found that they had vegan carne asada in small tubs in the refrigerator for purchase. A little pricey (about $9 if I remember correctly), but it's so hard to find good vegan carne asada and I had to try it. It was DELICIOUS. Lasted me several days and I was happy. Will definitely buy more when I get in the area again. I don't know about the non vegan treats in here, but I would imagine they're just as great. Perfect place for anyone. read more

This place came through BIG TIME! We needed a cake for an employee of ours who was having a retirement party at work. The person who was in charge of getting a cake, royally screwed it up, so my co-workers and I desperately scoured yelp and found this place. My co worker called them up around 8am, and asked if they were able to make a personalized full sheet cake by 1 P.M. that day. She said, sure, come on in to show them the design we wanted. We drove there and met with Paulina, who looked at the design, and specs, and said, that she could do it in 2 hours. AWESOME! Life saver! We chose the oreo cake. About two hours later, we stopped by and picked up the cake as promised. The design was great, especially within the time frame she did it in, and it tasted delicious! Just a few things though, this place is in a sketchy ass area in the Pico-Union neck of the woods. There were at least 4 or 5 transients hanging out in and around the parking lot. i was going to take some photos of my food, but it looked so good i couldn't resist and just started eating as soon as i could. so many pros to mention! first off, the food is amazing. it's fresh, it's authentic. even the vegan stuff tastes like something that my grandma or mom would make. there are so many breakfast and lunch options to choose from and the quality does not waver. also, it's incredibly affordable! you can get a mediocre brunch a mile away for twice or three times as much. the panaderia... at sunday around noon, they were fully stocked and their panes looked so fresh. i ordered about a dozen different breads, as i've never been to a salvadoran panaderia that has so much variety to choose from. all the classics and more. the vegan breads are also amazing! there are so many vegan sweet bread options! the service is remarkable for different reasons. yes, the workers at the front may not be sunny or overly sweet (usually a facade for us who have worked in food service), but they are damn competent. i made a huge order that kept on changing, and the women helping me out remembered every day detail without having to write anything down. i ordered a vegan burrito, an egg torta, three chipilín tamales, a cheese and jalapeño bread, two coffees, a ton of different pan dulce, and several things from the market section (it all came out to $47). everything was accurate to a T. i eat out a lot and without a fail something almost always gets mistaken. i came w family members and they also made huge orders which were all precisely taken care of. service was efficient and speedy. social distancing and masking is respected. this is a huge one. only a handful of customers are allowed inside at a time, and an employee stands at the front to make sure it stays that way. there also social distancing stickers on the floor and the customers were honoring them because it was so easy to keep a distance. i don't live in LA, but we travel out here from the IE/OC because you don't find a place like this anywhere else. this is my second time here and i would come weekly if it wasn't so far. read more

Really great service, the lady at the counter was very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. I am vegan, so naturally, I can only base my opinion on what I ordered which included a guava filled pastry, a "honey" filled pastry, and also a sugar coated pastry. I also got a red drink the which was filling and the bread was really fresh and tasty. Nothing I ordered was overly sweet, which for me works very well. Pretty good! This place is a legit place to pick up some fresh pan dulce. It's located in a seedy part of DTLA, but that show you know this place is legit! The shop is located in a small, corner strip mall with a private lot. They have ample seating in the bakery and also an adjacent patio area area. I noticed a lot of older people sitting around eating and chatting with friends so they must be friendly to customers who want to linger. They have a huge kitchen behind the counter so you can see them churning out pan dulces all day long. The counter has a huge variety of pan dulces and the conchas looked legit. I'm not familiar with the names of the different pan dulces but they all looked great. They also have basic sweets like cannolis, fruit tarts, cheese cakes and cookies. Each sweet bread will run be a little over a dollar so it's definitely affordable! read more

Always a busy spot in my work hood of Pico Union. This place keeps me and all the staff where I work well fed and awake with their coffee. The tortas are delicious and filling and are a staple at meetings. In fact I bring visitors to my office here for lunch. Their breakfasts are delicious as are all their baked goods. My kids swear by their fruit tarts and oreo cake. The service is super friendly and they are so accommodating, even with large sort of last minutes orders. They also give back to their community.
