My food is never ready on time. I have a short lunch break and tend to order my food for pick up at a specific time hours in advance. I've given them 3 chances before now b/c I understand being busy. However today I didn't get my food until 15 minutes after I had scheduled to pick it up. Might not seem like such a big deal but I order my food for pick up at specific times so b/c I have such a short lunch break. This is inconsiderate and honestly there's no point to ordering ahead of time if the food won't be ready in time. Now I'm left with 10 minutes to eat before going back into work. This is different from other Panda Express that you know of. There aren't too many of them around. This version also sell saleds and several different kinds of ice tea. Once in a while you may see a new menu item that they testing out at this location before they release it to other Panda Express. Panda Express has always been a once awhile guilty pleasure of mine, so when I found out there was an innovation kitchen opening in Westwood, I had to check it out. Based off the one in Pasadena where I hear there were orange chicken burritos and the like, I came super excited. The ordering system is like your typical panda express meets Chipotle. You choose your meal, base and entrees. What's unique about this Panda is that you can get everything in a wrap. And not just any wrap...its a scallion wrap! They have the classic entrees like orange chicken and the newer stuff like general tsos. There's also a tea bar with decent boba/milk tea drinks! The boba isn't that great especially with Sawtelle so close, but overall still good. Tables here are nice mdf boards with a nice wooden look. Service is pretty awesome and they bring out random concoctions around every so often. I tried a fortune cookie milkshake - pretty tasty! I usually go to the Santa Monica Panda Express on Montana but as I passed the Panda Express on Westwood Blvd in Westwood I thought I'd try it. It was clean inside. Very clean. I went to wash my hands and the bathroom was also clean. It went wrong from the get go. In SM the food is served in adequate cardboard boxes that leaves minor environmental foot print as they break down. I know this as I compost them. Had I seen the server pull out the nasty plastic container prior to adding the chow mein I would have just cancelled the order. I asked for the cardboard and he said they use the plastic, proudly adding they had for 4 years now. That's a lot of plastic! It's recyclable he told me. Where? Not where I live. No, there it is just one more bit of plastic to destroy our environment. I am tired of corporations pretending their products are recyclable knowing full well that most plastic is not. They lie through their teeth to sell a product. Panda Express just got added to that list. The server did tell me that they are a testing restaurant and have entrees other PE's do not. The staff there were nice and pleasant. The restaurant was slightly busy and I did see quite a lot of people picking up food to go (as was I). The server gave me the chow mein and a touch of veg (makes me feel healthy). I asked for Teriyaki chicken. I looked at the other items but the presentation, and the fact that most were almost empty, made them unappealing as I figured they had been sitting in the chafing dishes awhile. So I ended up adding a second Teriyaki chicken (he did kindly give me one of the honey shrimps so I could taste test it and maybe get it next time - it was good but very sweet). The veg were great - very fresh and lightly cooked. The chicken was good. Panda Express has cut way back on their serving size which is probably a good thing (ever seen the caloric count on their dinners?). So the two orders of the chicken were only slightly larger than the SM single order. But, and this is the main reason I go to Panda Express, the chow mein was inedible -slimy and tasteless. I seriously think this may have resolved my long term Panda Express addiction. I couldn't eat the very thing I went there to get. Very disappointing but perhaps the push I needed to start checking out my local small Chinese restaurants as we come out of the pandemic. read more

Love this particular Panda. Staff is so nice- my online order wasn't ready yet so the girl gave me a cup for soda while I waited which was unnecessary but really appreciated. The foods here were prepared fresh and the taste was not as oily or salty as we've had at other Pandas. Maybe they see I am old and have high blood pressure that they cut down on the salt??!!! This is my favorite Panda Express - it's the innovation kitchen location! - it's super spacious and clean - they have fancy fruit infused water - boba tea and milkshake bar! I loved the Fortune Cookie milkshake, but they just took it off the menu :/ hopefully they'll bring it back! - you can order the Surf and Turf (it's a plate of the steak and shrimp dishes...) - and they have the Orange Chicken Burrito! Well they call it a Chinese Bing Wrap or something like that but it's Chipotle style where you can fill up a Wrap with your choice of orange chicken and other Panda Express delights. I love this Panda Express location. I've been getting at least 2 meals a week here since they opened. It's bright, airy, clean, and beautifully designed. The food is consistently great, and the staff are friendly and attentive. And you can't beat the fact that they're one of the very few locations that stock the Sambal Chili sauce. I also love their separate Tea Bar. My faves from the bar are the Mango Smoothie, Thai Iced Tea with boba, and the Ginger Lemonade. All drinks are customizable for sugar level (0, 25%, 50%,etc). Got to hand it to Panda; innovation is the best way to stay in business and the Panda Burrito (Bing) is a great example of that! I enjoy having Panda Express every now and then I had to try their Bing when my friend told me about it. I grabbed a Bing with Orange Chicken + String Bean Chicken + Chow Mein plus a few extra toppings and it was super delicious. It reminds you of a Chipotle burrito but with all the Panda goodness inside. It is pretty massive as well and I could barely finish the whole thing. Experience today was unpleasant. I was ordering for sit in and my two entries was Eggplant Tofu and Teriyaki Chicken. Gentleman said, eggplant tofu will take 5 mins. So I said let's go with Beijing beef. Done, next gentleman asks for my second entree, I said teriyaki chicken again. He stated it will take 7 mins. Wasn't told that before but no big deal. I get orange chicken instead, ready for my transaction. I say I'm eating here, and Kenneth asks if I want anything to drink. I asked for water hands name a cup. Then proceeds with total. I asked him "You guys don't do the donation anymore?" He replies, ohh I'm sorry how much would you like to donate? I stated $2.00. Done He processes that and I usually hear a bell ring? But no biggie, and told him thank you. I get my water and get ready to eat. Well no water in the provided container, I asked for water at the counter. Another gentleman said, just use the tap water from the machine. So I did. Food was lowest tasting and quality I have ever had at a Panda Express. Unfortunately this has put both a bad taste in my mouth and experience as I have got nothing but great service and quality food from all other Panda Express. This location is the worst and they are constantly late with the online orders and not having enough food ready. The food they do have ready is being offered to the customers, in the store, instead of filling up the online orders. Which then leads to having to wait 20-30min for the next batch of food to be ready. The online system needs to be fixed somehow and not make people wait an extra 30 min from the time your food was supposed to ready. Save yourself time and patience and don't order online, unless you don't need mind waiting. I always order before the lunch/dinner rush but still have issues. I saw this place undergoing construction for awhile. After reading the reviews that it was one of the experimental Panda locations, I decided to try it. I got a bing with orange chicken and a chow mein base. I couldn't finish it. Now I'm not a snob when it comes to Chinese-American food. I eat it regularly, but usually at local places where they give you bigger portions for less money in comparison to Panda. Somehow, eating the dishes separately only a plate is fine (maybe its the steamed rice I usually get that tempers the greasy, sweetness), but in burrito form, the saltiness, sweetness, and greasiness was just too much for me to handle at once. I tried a peach green tea too, which was actually pretty good. I appreciate the cashier checked with me to taste it, since apparently they had been getting reports that it was bitter the way that they were mixing it. It just tasted like tea, which can be a little bitter, but again, it's tea. If you don't want tea, don't order tea expecting it to taste like juice. I appreciate that the just opened, but I came at typical dinner hours and they seemed understaffed. There was one poor woman who seemed like she was trying to manage phone orders and the live customers by herself. The line must have been 6-8 people long and even though I was at the front of it, I still had to wait about 5 minutes before someone approached me for my order. read more

When I vowed to never write a review for a fast food chain restaurant, I didn't foresee that Panda Express would create an orange chicken burrito. The first of its kind, Panda has managed to make itself even less Chinese, and even more irresistible. Based on a true story from my housemate's visit to this new Panda, this was my exclusive interview with him, and my one-bite of his burrito. My housemate, Jeremy B., trudged into the house after a 24 hour shift as an EMT. He slumped onto the kitchen table. His eyes, dead with the horrors of the previous night, were fixed on the steaming roll of aluminum foil. As his feeble hands peeled back the foil and separated the fragile burrito from it, he noticed my anticipating stare. "You can take a picture if you like," he said softly. Seizing the opportunity, I hurriedly snapped a couple of aerial shots. When I stepped back, he snatched the bundle of life into his hands and wolfishly took a bite. A wave of pungent aroma seemed to slap me in the face. The frying oil, the astringent orange sauce, the starchy green onion pancake. I felt my mouth salivating. Without knowing it, I had leaned in to watch my housemate's reaction. All his furrowed lines eased. His drooping hair seemed to dance on end. His shoulders pulled back. And life returned to his eyes which were swimming with emotion. He looked at me brightly and muttered an invitation to me. I have never been so grateful in my life. One bite. One bite was all I needed to understand Panda's new vision. Chewy and fragrant green onion pancake. Crunchy greasy chicken. Tangy and refreshing orange sauce. Aromatic scallion and ginger sauce. Crunchy pickled cucumbers. All soaked into tangles of chow mein. I let out an audible groan of pleasure as I extended the burrito back to my housemate who attacked it relentlessly, sipped his passion fruit tea, and went straight to bed. Meanwhile, I sat utterly dazed. How could Panda Express possibly improve themselves more? The answer was wrapped in this burrito. Panda had made their "Chinese" food more accessible and consistent with each bite by borrowing Mexican-American elements. Great move, Panda. You've proven that even in the fast food industry, Chinese food can be genius and inventive. The End. Further restaurant details: Parking is on La Grange in the neighborhood. There's free wifi here and plenty of clean seating. The staff are still figuring out the flow of cooking, so the wait to get the burrito can be 20 minutes. I have yet to try the teas, but they all look very good. The place is also very clean and modern looking. Another major difference of this Panda Express is that they have a choice of a wrap for your dishes. The wrap is a thin onion pancake where you have a choice of adding rice or noodles and 2 different sides. Everything is then wrapped up like an Asian burrito. It sounds weird but actually tastes pretty good. Give it a try if you're bored of the regular Panda Express meals. Only down side to this place is that they use fancy plates to serve their food, but these plates don't seem to hold as much food as their regular plates. read more

After hearing that they opened up a second location in West LA (the first in Pasadena), I knew I had to come out and try it. But at first glance, it was underwhelming. It looks exactly like a normal Panda, albeit slightly sleeker and with a more expansive menu - but with all the same old dishes that you know and love (or maybe love to hate). I didn't see any new whacky creations that pushed the boundaries of what American Chinese food could be. No newfound fusion food or fresh dishes that were in beta. Where was the innovation? The only major additions to an otherwise standard Panda were the SCALLION WRAPS (aka Chinese burrito wrapper) and a TEA BAR. But as I hesitantly made my way down the service line that so closely resembled Chipotle's, I realized something important: my server wasn't just a server, she was an enabler. Want to sample half of the dishes? "Sure." Can I mix and match any entrees in my weird Chinese burrito? "Of course!" Is it possible to add all 4-5 sauces (green scallion, mandarin, chili sambal, etc) to my burrito? *laughs* "Yes sir" I even got a bunch of sides in little cuppies. (asian slaw, pickled cucumbers, crispy garlic bits) I ate that shit up, washing down a grease-loaded Orange Chicken/Tso's Chicken & Chow Mein Scallion Wrap with an Almond Milk Tea. And halfway through my meal, I finally got it. The major difference between a Panda Express and a Panda Express Innovation Kitchen is that in the innovation kitchen - you're the innovator. And there are NO holds barred, NO fucks given. You get full creative rein to create the food of your dreams / nightmares, and oh what a wild, wild world. The food is mainly the same, the space more modern and cleaner. But you leave a changed person, empowered to screw with your food in unprecedented ways. So in the end, was it Tso Tso good? Nah, but it was fun. And it was pretty good. read more

Great staff. Great food. They don't seem to cut corners anywhere. They even have a quinoa fried rice and sometimes a sautéed vegetables option for your sides when you get the plate option. I don't get the hater reviews, honestly. This place has frickin' WiFi... and the food prices are fair. Restrooms are fine. The only real complaint I got is the lack of parking spaces when the place gets busy but otherwise they have sriracha in squeeze bottles, bro. This is a bomb Panda Express out of the other Panda Expresses out there. The setting isn't as nice as P.F. Chang's but you're saving money in food. And it's better food. Seriously, the Kung Pao Chicken at any Panda is better than the one at PF. read more
