I have been coming to this Panera for over ten years and after my experience last week, I will never be returning. I ordered two salads, a soup, and a macaroni and cheese for curbside pickup for myself and my cousin. I got home and we started eating. My cousin took one bite of her chicken noodle soup (which she gets about weekly) and instantly said it tasted weird. I tried a bite myself and can say it was not edible. It tasted as if it had gone bad (almost sour-like). As I started to take a couple bites of my salad, I noticed my salad did not taste good either. I looked in the bowl and noticed the majority of the lettuce was bad by it's droopy, brown or red coloring (this was romaine lettuce so naturally should be bright or pale green). My cousins salad was the same way. I am never one to complain but after having a completely inedible order, I decided to call. The associate on the phone immediately denied my statement by saying "our soups are premade". I know their soups are premade but it still doesn't justify serving it to customers? She then said "hold on" and put me on hold. There was silence and then I heard the receiver pick up and right before the manager started talking I heard "yup first world problems". He introduced himself and I explained my situation. The manager did not apologize once but continuously defended his stores food by saying "I'm looking at the lettuce at the store right now and it's fine" among some other diregarding comments (you must be calling the wrong store, there's no way it's brown, the soup is normally salty, etc.) I offered to send him pictures which he brushed off. He finally said "ok so what do you want"? He claimed he was going to send me a $15 gift card via email which "might take a couple days" (It's been over a week and nothing has made it to my inbox). At the end of the conversation I notified him i heard the "first world problems" comment. He immediately became flustered on the phone and justified it with "i have a line of people out the door, you could have heard that from anywhere". Found this to be a very interesting statement considering I couldn't hear any other voices besides his on the phone. Overall, such a horrible experience. As I stated before, I've been to this Panera for years and have never had an issue however this was unacceptable. I was hoping my concerns would be met with understanding and I was totally blown off. If I had one item that wasn't great, I get it, there's always room for human error. An entire meal is a completely different story. Very poor management: will not be returning. read more

What a welcome ray of sunshine awaited me at 6 AM this morning. ALL of the employees greeted me warmly with huge smiles. Bought bagels for the office and gift certificates for hemodialysis technician's week. And it goes without saying the bagels (assorted) and varieties of cream cheese were delicious. I recently went to this Panera Bread location. The blitz of ads on TV featuring the new seared chicken sandwich we're dancing in my head so thought it might be something special. In the commercial the actor is barely Able to hold a huge sandwich that contains a thick golden chunk of chicken and fresh lettuce. The actor is grinning from ear to ear at the prospect of consuming such a formidable feast. meanwhile I'm thinking Chick Fillet and Popeye are being challenged. Without asking the cost I order it. With taxes about thirteen dollars. wow! oh well it must be great. Get out to my car , open the small bag , open the rapper and there it is, A tiny generic roll, an extremely thin piece of what appears to be processed chicken, barely any lettuce. Not the best experience today. First of all, they weren't doing any drinks besides fountain drinks, because they didn't have staff for the barista side. Okay, that's fine, but the cashier didn't apologize in any way. Isn't that the basics of customer service, even if you don't mean it? I don't mean to do a review of Panera Bread on Yelp to waste anyones time because let's face it. We all know what we're in for when we walk into a Panera. Fresh baked goodness, bad coffee and decent but overpriced sandwiches. I'm writing this review solely on the service of the Deming St location in Manchester. After a short conversation with one of the managers there, I learned that this is the busiest location in New England. That said, I am blown away every time I go in there. Around 12:30 you can attempt to walk in the door and that's usually where the line stops, but don't fret. You'll be in line maybe 5 or 6 minutes. The employees have service down to a science..... and they do it with a smile.... who would've have thunk it! =) But it doesn't just stop at the register, when you get your pager, and you wait at the pick-up counter, you'll only be there for about 2-3 minutes before they call your name and then tell you to have a nice day. This is a clean store, and the quality of the food is not sacrificed by their speediness. I've been to the other Panera in Manchester and there is just no comparison. Skim to the bottom for my meals nutrition facts. There are two Panera's in the area and this is my favorite by far. They have 4 registers so ordering Is always fast. It was take out tonight because neither the wife or I felt like cooking. She got the pick two half frontega chicken panini and cup of chicken noodle soup I ordered the spicy Thai chicken salad. When you think salad you think starter or appetizers, however this salad is a meal (and I'm a big fella). The Thai chicken is spicy but the peanut butter sauce add perfect balance to the salad. Panera gives you heaps of chicken and with a side (chips, bread or apple) it's more than enough for dinner. My wife obviously enjoyed her sandwich and soup as evidenced by her lack of sharing with her husband. I also took home a fresh loaf of sourdough bread because my young picky daughters absolutely devour it. All and all we love this Panera, even if the parking is a nightmare sometimes. We visit Panera Bread for breakfast, most of the weekends. The staff is cool, friendly and fast no matter how crowded. The tickets go in fast and the orders are out quickly. I have been to a few Panera Bread in Hartford but this branch stands at its best :) Im a huge fan for their Donuts, have a huge variety to pick. They are tasty and not much hard, compared to Dunkin Donuts. Huge spread of the breads n pastries, fresh always n never disappointed. My husband loves the Mediterranean Sandwich. It has a light pesto sauce with egg whites on it n with some spinach. The tomato basil panni n jalapeno bread these both make me crave for "Panera Bread". I find it curious that there are two Panera locations within a walk of each other. Is it really necessary to have two locations, one at the mall, and one at the outskirts of the general Buckland Hills area? Especially considering 20% of the storefronts in Buckland Hills are now vacant or occupied temporarily by seasonal Halloween, Christmas, and 4th of July operations... Panera's very good, they clearly have a good business model. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are equally honored here, and you can do it for less than 10 bucks a person. Since we're more than 50 miles from New York, finding a real bagel is like finding a capable quarterback on the New York Jets... So I begrudgingly must admit that this is one of the better places in town to get a bagel. And every other bread/bread-like substance is here too. Croissants, danishes, cookies, brownies, muffins, boules, baguettes, you get the deal. Final thought: the soups. Most of them are great. I especially love the black bean, which is a healthy option while simultaneously hearty and flavorful. A sound choice all around. read more

Maybe it's just me but i think it would have been nice to be informed of the fact they were out of bread before they take my money. I love Panera. I go to this location several times a month. The trick is to eat in. Both times I have ordered it to go the order has been wrong. Both times I called the manager and was promised a gift card. Both times I have not received my giftcard. Fail. But despite this, the new broth bowls are incredible. The customer experience at this Panera and other ones is very poor. This has been an ongoing issue for many years. I've spoken to local and regional mangers. Each time, I'm left with a half hearted experience. In my last experience, I used the web ordering system. Since you have to click on pictures and spell out the order, you'd figure this is fool proof. Both times I've used it, the order was incomplete. In this case, it was a lowly order of bagels and tubs of cream cheese. When I picked up the order, the bagels were thrown in w bag and there were no cream cheese. The receipt said if the order was not correct, I'd get a treat. The clerk only offered a flat, "sorry about that," and handed the tubs over. The manager stood right by with no recognition. Hard to get upset, I'm resigned to the dispassionate experience. Yep, I'm officially a Panera Bread fan. I've just started going here as of maybe a week ago. Pretty much once the Sprint store I've worked at moved in the same parking lot as this place. I've tried plenty of things on the menu and haven't been disappointed yet. The toffee nut cookies are delicious, hot chocolate is awesome, and their sandwiches rule! Well...I guess they COULD work on their coffee...it's not really the best but it's ok for what it is. I love their tomato soup! It's really the only place I ever get tomato soup besides Max Burger. I'd say the only thing I would improve is where to order. I always get confused that there's a seperate line for ordering sandwiches and another for order coffee and such. I just got a PB card, and will be using it as I see myself coming here more often. PROS: -Great food -Lots of options. CONS: -Can get pricy -When busy, it gets a little out of control. read more

Came by for a quick bite to eat on our road trip between NYC and Boston. Found this establishment to be very typical of any other Panera restaurant and it was easy to get on and off the highway from here. The inside is set up nicely with lots of tables and very spread out. The workers were nice enough and got my order correct, so I no complaints from me. i ordered the steak salad with an apple. The salad was surprisingly satisfying, but the two pieces of my steak were VERY chewy due to connective tissue - got to take a star off for that. Aside from that though, the salad was yummy and refreshing. Just another Panera like all the others. Great choice to eat if you want to order something with no surprises. read more

As a teen I loved coming to this Panera location. They always had fresh and tasty salads and sandwiches, and a fun fast-casual atmosphere. It was great to grab food that wasn't in the mall, too. However, in the years since the quality and cleanliness has really dropped. The past few times my soup has been lukewarm to cold, tables have been dirty, and it appears some repairs are needed on the booths. The staff has also been lackluster. I go to this Panera location often, usually just for their coffee, since it's the best buy in town. Although the quality and taste of the coffee is not greatest, for less than 2.50, you can drink endless cups of it, sit and read or work, or meet up with a friend. We ordered online and picked up rapid pickup. That was great! The flatbread pizzas we ordered were good, but the steak and white cheddar sandwich was lacking meat. We understand that places are just getting busy again but there's really no excuse for jilting the customer with hardly any meat and all roll. My husband was truly dissatisfied with his sandwich. Panama used to be pretty generous when it came to filling there sandwiches with proper amount of meat. We weren't happy since we paid quite a bit fir the sandwich. The food is good at Panera, and, as someone with food allergies, I appreciate that they change gloves before preparing my plate. I like that Panera offers some salads and soups that are vegetarian and dairy-free (I ask them to hold the feta). In my experience, the service has been very good here. My only problem with this location is the ladies room. The toilets could be cleaner. Also, there is only one sink and the only mirror is directly above that sink. There is usually a line to wash hands, which is something I haven't experienced anywhere else. I would suggest more thorough and frequent bathroom cleanings and installing a second mirror on the wall next to the paper towels. That way you can at least make sure you don't have any kale stuck in your teeth while you are waiting to wash your hands. But, please, wash your hands first and then get the kale out of your teeth. read more

Of all things, one would expect Panera to be great.. if not always, usually. However, it is TERRIBLE. To be fair though, the food (if you don't die from old age waiting for it) is good. I go there every few weeks for coffee and a bagel to meet a good friend. It is shameful the time spent waiting in line to order because there is absolutely no sense f urgency or customer service. Really shocking. Yesterday for example, I stood in line for 12 minutes while the girl at the register had an ongoing chat with one of the customers clearly oblivious to the 9-10 people standing 5 feet away from her waiting to order. Eventually, I ordered a bagel with Honey Walnut cream cheese but was told that it was "on recall" while Panera is improving it. (How do you improve cream cheese..?) In any event, I then said, no problem, I'll just have plain cream cheese". The girl said "OK" and then proceeded to place the order. Several moments later, I was told, "Oh, I'm sorry sir; we don't have ANY cream cheese". Really.. Panera.. A place that sells bagels, muffins, bread, etc.. has NO cream cheese.?? By then, I was seriously annoyed but remained calm and respectful. I requested my money back for the cream cheese opting have it with butter (yuck) rather than dry. The manager apparently is the only person authorized to issue a refund (in this case about $1.30 or so) and was clearly put out that she had to do that. Then my name was called to get my bagel such as it was and I went to pick it up. Although there were two tiny little butter packets on the plate, I requested additional butter and was curtly told, it's right there from a rude girl pointing to my left. I looked .. and looked.. and eventually found some in a container on top of the counter. Will I EVER return to Panera? Absolutely not. They are clueless, rude and completely mismanaged. I'm not sure what happened but it will no longer be my problem, The one at the Buckland Mall closed (possibly for similar reasons). I suspect this one will as well if someone doesn't intervene and re-commit to some semblance of remembering why they are there.. Principally to accommodate customers, quickly, effectively and with respect. No cream cheese.. (It will be interesting to see if Panera responds to and (defends against) this review. If they do with excuses as to how busy they were, how someone called out, etc., it will confirm that they simply do not "get it". read more

I suppose I have foolishly assumed that the quality at all Panera restaurants is uniformly high. This assumption was abruptly demolished by a visit to the store in a strip mall in Manchester, CT. Having spent four hours on the I-84 and ready for lunch, we pulled off the highway delighted to discover a nearby Panera. Being hungry, our standards were not the highest, but what we received when we got our lunch which was advertised as a mozzarella/basil/tomato panini was a sick joke. Isolated on a aircraft carrier panini roll was a single pathetic piece oif mozzarella, a soggy and forlorn leaf of basil and a slice of unripe tomato that had been augmented by a slathering of something that does not belong on a caprese sandwich: pizza sauce. Were they trying to stiff the franchise? Who knows? But they were certainly stiffing the customer. Twenty bucks for something that mostly ended up in the trash. The bag of potato chips that constituted most of what we ate were very good. A drive-by disaster. read more

The card reader in the self-service didn't work with any of my payment cards, they were out of the drink I wanted, I had to wait a while for the cashier to help me. To her credit, she gave me an extra drink, but then I had to wait 10 minutes for a salad when there was no line to speak of. This is the first location of many Panera experiences. Their black bean soup is spectacular. Their pastries are fresh as is their bread. Overall food quality is pretty decent. The food portions relative to their pricing is below slightly below average. I recently was pleasantly surprised by one of the store's employees at closing. They offered me a fresh baked loaf of bread for free! I've also had experiences where the staff has been pretty rude and argumentative when it comes to requesting a toasted PB&J sandwich. And when Inasked them to redo it, the food preparer slammed the plate on the counter. They have staff that continually bus the cafe and restrooms. This store is very popular and booths and tables are often non-existent. The lines to order food from either the pastry bar or the food line can get pretty long. The condition of this cafe is a bit worn and could use some TLC. I want to give them a four star rating, but they need to improve on the details. read more
