I used to love Panera bread. Unfortunately this location has gone downhill. I normally don't comment negatively about food places however I feel this time I cannot help myself. Service- my wife called in an order for us to get two soups with bread bowls she is charged for the bread bowls. After waiting in a long line to pickup the food the person says "sorry we are out of bread bowls but I threw in some extra bread" turned out to be a slice and a half of bread... Not sure how that is even remotely acceptable. Food- beside not getting the bread bowls the soup was the same. We also ordered a sandwich in which the quality and caliber was seriously lacking from standard Panera bread I am used to. There was one slice of avacodo and one piece of some sort of budget bacon on the whole sandwich in addition to the lettuce, tomato and turkey (which was quite possibly out of a can). I might add that there was no pickle or baguette with the sandwich. Just wanted to share my experience with those curious about this restaurant. They are still awfully understaffed. Lines out the f*cking door with ONE person ringing up customers. Two people making food. One person walking around and checking on guests. The restaurant was crowded and overfull with people who have been waiting unacceptably long to order+get their food. Everyone I encountered was complaining about the wait. I spoke to the manager, a very flippant and rude man who informed me that they had everyone working today. They need to hire more staff before I will ever consider them a good business. Trying to keep a local place in business to no avail. 2 weeks ago went for breakfast at 9am. Sign on the door "not open until 10am". Decided to go back yesterday. 10:30am and the sign on the door says new hours open at 8am. Yay! waited for the 3 people ahead of me and got to the cashier and ordered my soufflé and was informed we do not serve breakfast on weekends? I call in my order, because this place gets PACKED around lunch. The food is consistent, which is good. Then have only messed up my order once out of the 10 times I have been there so that's good. Which would have been fine except the person working on the food was serious annoyed that I was there already. She said 10 minutes. At 7:45, I got my food. I've never been there to camp out for the free WI FI but I've seen many taking up space and no food or drink in front of them. I don't think I would be that gracious. THE best pastries in town! I caught myself wandering around my supermarket the other night, looking for something that wasn't there. Today, I went to Panera and found it-great pastries! I haven't seen yummies like this since Plusko's was still in Simi (yes, I am old...). I ordered the apple, cherry pastries and a blueberry scone. I drank my pumpkin spice latte, which was divine, al fresco, under the cloudy skies and the palm trees swaying in our Calfiornia Fall breeze. I put my feet up and caught one of the friendly staff smiling through the window at me. Can't beat it, yummy hot coffee in my cold hand and my contentedness making someone else smile. I took my pastries home, the cherry was delish and the others are calling my name. I've had savory dishes there in the past, with family and I've gone there to do some paperwork with my computer. You can feel comfortable staying a long time, or a little and kids are welcome. They have a HUGE table for a big family or meeting and they have little tables and club chairs tucked away in the back for canoddling or getting your stuff done. The current choose two duo is only $6.99 and that beats the over $8 I spent on an unhealthy sandwich and cold curly fries earlier at JITB. Also, they bake real homemade bread, so many types and they have fresh bagels, including a pink ribbon flavor for breast cancer awareness month. You order at the counter, where the view of the fresh baked goods is fantastic! If you dine in, they'll bring you your food. Wish I could've kept growing with the business but it began to be to much when they asked me to take a rat out, it was in our aprons. I prearranged a donation for our boys baseball tournament and when I drove all the way out to Simi at 9 pm to pick up, the manager on duty Friday night was rude and condescending and said he new nothing about it. Not only that but I stood in front of the cash register for 8 minutes before anyone even asked me if I needed help. I was forced to scramble and find other baked goods for the tournament which caused a lot of unnecessary stress. The manager acted like he could care less and was only concerned with getting me out of there. I even showed him the phone call I placed to check on the donation earlier in the day. The place seemed dirty and was messy as well- I am glad I can cross this one off my list. The Simi location continues to go downhill. I think the manager doesn't get it. Last week we visited and tables were dirty, no ice in machine, no ice tea, they forgot my baguette. Sometimes chain places can be a turn off but this place certainly is not a turn off at all. Located in the heart of Simi it's very easy to get there, their bread selection and bread quality is superb, there aren't many bakeries that offer good bread in town that I know so this is the place to get it. They also offer soups and sandwiches combos... Delicious definitely to die for food and great flavors. Today was not the best day to crave Panera Breads Poppyseed Strawberry Chicken Salad. Upon arrival, it was obvious that they were understaffed and they had only 1 cashier (possibly newly hired) and it took 25 minutes just to order. Looking back in hindsight, I should had left, but thought I would be patient and fulfill my craving. Well, it took an additional 15 minutes to receive the order and surprisingly when I got home and dig into it, the lettuce was ice cold and some of it transparent! The strawberries and pineapple were soggy! This wasn't a freshly made salad!!!! I'm pretty sure it was pre made and refrigerated. It was the worst salad I have ever ordered and I did call to complain. After speaking with the new manager, Bernadette, she apologized, and mentioned that 9 employees had quit and they are understaffed and in process of training new hires. She was very professional and understanding and gave me a credit for today's fiasco. I'm in the service industry and I do understand how chaotic it can be.
