I've been here several times in the past because of location and convenience. The food has always been mediocre and bland due to them them trying to cater to the western taste buds. In fact, most Asian restaurants in this area tend to be so scared to alienate those taste buds, they go light on the seasoning, resulting in mediocre and underwhelming food. However, went there for lunch today and I was pleasantly surprised. Perhaps there is a new chef or perhaps the old chef was in an aggressive mood. Either way, the flavor of the food has increased positively. Not quite South-East Asian authentic, but compared to the area with mediocre Thai restaurants, this one seems to be heading down the right track. Will plan to visit again in a few weeks to see if this was an anomaly or a trend. read more

Panisa is the ONLY Thai restaurant in Burke, VA. Burke really doesn't have too many dining options. As a result, I REALLY tried to like this place. I mean, I really really tried. However, they can't seem to get my order right to save their business (I order the same thing every time), and the service has steadily declined too. I'm over it. I'd rather drive to Courtside Thai in Fairfax, or Celadon in Springfield. read more

I love Panisa! The food is wonderful. It is so flavorful and the presentation of it is lovely as well. The restaurant is clean, the staff is friendly and the owner is a very nice gentleman. We have been very happy with everything we have tried from this restaurant but our personal favorites are the beef pad see ew and the chicken pad thai. We heard a lot of hype about this place (review in the Washington Post Magazine, all the reviews on Yelp, the fact that it's always packed, etc.), but we found it to be completely disappointing. The first problem is that we were trying to order takeout and could not find a menu online. It's a bit more understandable if they don't have their own website (even though web design software has made the process virtually idiot-proof), but still, they couldn't even bother posting a menu with a third party site? But this isn't a big deal if the food is good, which unfortunately it wasn't. The portions were stingy, and the food was subpar compared to other restaurants in the area. read more

Panisa is easily the best Thai food in Burke. Oh wait, it's the ONLY Thai food in Burke! But while the food is very good but the restaurant is massively understaffed! Last time we went we waited almost an hour for our food, and then once it came, half the entrees were cold. The waitress made a big deal to the table next to us "Thanks for being so understanding, if only everyone was!" We've also had issues with carry-out orders, once we arrived and apparently the person who had taken our order over the phone had a family emergency and left before handing in the order. We've had better luck with the service at lunch, so we'll probably just stick to that from now on. read more

This is the Thai spot to go for the area. The food, atmosphere, decor and service all well exceed the reasonable price point. I tend to judge a Thai place first on the quality of its most commonly ordered dish--the pad thai, and if you order the pad thai here you may find yourself, years after, disappointed by most other restaurants pad thai. It's done very well. Panisa's location was formerly the site of Pacific Cafe--a pan-Asian restaurant which started life as a great place, then declined in quality after it was sold to a new owner. The current incarnation of this restaurant not only lives up to the caliber of the original, but the interior has been completely remodeled into a much classier, much more relaxing environment. I've chatted briefly with the current owners, very friendly people, and have never been less than impressed with the wait staff and quickness of service. If you like spicy food, you will have to specifically request the level of spice you want, as they tend to have a lot of tenderfoot customers, so keep that in mind. Particular dishes of note: Pad Thai, Fantasy Rice, Yum Nua (steak salad), Panang Curry, and Pad Rama(meat with broccoli in delicious peanut sauce). I was in the neighborhood shopping at Wal Mart a few days ago and decided to drop by to pick up a take-out menu and see what the restaurant was like. The restaurant is just beautiful with a lot of wood, inviting colors on the walls, and modern artworks. I found out that the restaurant has a menu of lunch specials (not online). The waiter was extremely pleasant and helpful. I was so impressed with everything that I decided to order a take-out lunch special even though I'd already eaten lunch. I ordered the Shrimp Preow Wan ($9.00), which is sauteed in sweet & sour pineapple sauce with pineapple chunks, bell peppers, onions, carrots, and scallions, plus Tom Kha soup with shrimp. Everything was nicely packed - the entree came in a cute sectioned hard plastic container with snap-on lid, with the shrimp and rice in different sections along with some steamed cabbage and carrots. The soup container was wrapped in a paper bag to help keep it warm. I reheated the items later for dinner, and they were AWESOME! Tommy Thai in Springfield (closed this past spring) had a Tom Kha seafood soup that was super delicious and addicting - I've been looking for something similar ever since. My search has ended - this soup hit the mark with the perfect balance of sour lemongrass, spicy curry, and comfort food coconut milk. Bonus, this soup has halved cherry tomatoes, which were delicious to bite into. Each spoonful of soup made me want more and more. I don't usually order sweet & sour dishes at Thai places as there are so many more interesting things to try, but I could't pass up this lunch deal. This dish was so good that I will definitely order it again. The plentiful shrimp were large and perfectly cooked, and the sauce was not overly sweet with savory sour notes and a little bite of spiciness. There was even wok char on the veggies and some of the shrimp that added a whole different dimension of flavor. If the wok char was good on a sweet & sour dish, I can only imagine how it is on the Drunken Noodles! The steamed cabbage and carrots were a nice contrast to the bold flavors of the entree. Although the dishes I had warranted 5 stars, I'm giving 4 because that's all I've had at the restaurant, and I haven't had the dining in experience yet. Now I'll plan to eat here whenever I do a Wal Mart run or just get a hankering for top-notch Thai food. read more

Panisa has been our favorite Thai restaurant in the Fairfax/Burke area for several years. We are doing take-out now d/t corona virus. Their food is still fresh and tasty as ever. The papaya salad (Tom Sum) is crunchy, sweet/sour deliciousness with enough heat to warm up your mouth. If you want to try something unusual, go for the green curry. We also like the Pad See Ew and Pad Rama. And the sticky rice with mango is the bomb! Panisa seasons their food well - not crazy hot, but not timid either. We ordered takeout from Panisa, as they are still working during the coronavirus lockdown. The food quality and quantity is still outstanding. I had the panang curry, my wife had a veggie green curry, and our son had chicken fried rice and wolfed down two of my three spring rolls. Panisa is a gem in Burke! Burke doesn't have the most plentiful array of variety or quality in restaurants. First off, their service is very good -- extremely friendly & attentive. The restaurant is clean and has modern clean lines with no carpeting (yay -- why do so many Asian restaurants have carpeting??? bluchhh)! We love the flavors of the Panang Curry (chicken) and they always make me a special batch of Beef Pad Lard Na (even though it doesn't appear on their menu). The traditional Mango & Sticky Rice is warm and a definite go-to comfort dessert. They even have a few stir fry dishes for kids. Really good for a "strip mall" joint. However, I've had an amazing experience every time I had dined here. The staff members are all so friendly and helpful (they look genuinely happy to be of help), the atmosphere is not too casual but not too formal - just to my liking. The food there is very well prepared as well. I usually get the beef pad thai and/or drunken noodles. Food here is really good, which should be taken as a high compliment coming from someone who can't stand going to Thai restaurants because of being fed way too much of it. I swear to you, every week, once a week, for quite some time Thai restaurants would be the place we would go - family dinners or any occasion, we would be at one. The owner of this place is super nice, we chatted with him while we were waiting for our food (we got take out). As an appetizer we had the chicken skewers which was served with some kind of thai relish and peanut sauce. Very tasty! Anywho, the food was good....but not mindblowing. I was boring and had the pad thai. It had a bit too much vinegar, it was also pretty greasy. Despite this, the pad thai was good enough for my to want to give this place another chance. My girlfriend had some fried rice dish with pineapple, cashews and raisins. She seemed to like it, but I thought it was pretty bad. Then again, I didnt order it so perhaps thats just not my kind of dish. Conclusion: Three stars for now but I will be going back and trying this place again. I had never had Thai food before some friends invited us to join them for dinner here one night about a month ago. This place is brand new and it shows in the beautiful dining area. The staff is very friendly and the service is prompt. As for the food, well let's just say that since I first ate there I get a huge Panisa craving about once a week... First of all...I am a huge fan of Thai food and try to sample everyone's recommended places. This place is by far the best Thai restaurant I have eaten at. The Panang Curry is freaking ridiculous and a must have! My kids love the Pad Thai (even though my wife and I think it is a little sweet) and my wife loves the Drunken Noodles, and numerous other dishes. It is a quaint and very unassuming place nestled between Chipotle and Safeway but you have to try this place if you are looking for some good Thai food. Normally for a family of 6...with 2 of my kids sharing a meal....ordering two orders of spring rolls...it comes to around $65-70...so not horribly pricey for 5 meals and 2 appetizers. read more

We tried this for the first time a few nights ago-very good Thai. The atmosphere is very calming with some very relaxing spa-like music playing. The service is friendly and helpful. The food is very good, and they will spice it up for you if you ask. They also have the spice tray if you want to do your own spicing. My husband had the Red Curry Chicken, I had the Ka Prow Tofu and we had the Spring Rolls for an appetizer-all delicious. They have a Fried Banana dessert that looks great, but we were too stuffed. They have the typical curries, noodles, fried rice dishes and vegetarian dishes. We were here for dinner, but they have some lunch specials as well. The prices are comparable to other Thai restaurants. We are glad that there is finally a decent Thai restaurant in our area. read more

I would say that it is slightly Americanized in terms of spice levels and there are certain selections on the menu to appeal to kids and picky eaters. Panisa is a wonderful addition to the Burke Centre Shopping area. The atmosphere is cozy and surprisingly modern. Interesting artwork. We've been three times and the staff is always very pleasant and food comes out quickly. The Good - Sa-tay Appetizer - Spring Roll Appetizer - Pad thai - Drunken Noodles and Crispy Duck. Both are what you expect. The Crispy Duck could have been a little more.. crispy? I don't think there's a bad thing on the menu. The AMAZING: The Tom Kha is INCREDIBLE. For some reason, this soup is like ecstasy( more the place than the drug). I dream about this soup. Tender chicken in a spicy meets sour lemongrass broth with coconut milk, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms and chopped scallions. I LOVE THIS SOUP. ( Could you tell? M'mm). Panisa is definitely worth a try. I love Thai food and have been to many of the local Thai restaurants, Panisa Thai is by far my favorite. I've dined in and taken out and the quality and taste is as wonderful either way. When I'm feeling decadent I start with the Toong Tong wonton dumpling appetizer which comes with a divine sweet chili sauce that makes your mouth water for more. My favorite soup is the Tom Kha with Chicken. So fresh and full of lemongrass and coconut flavor, yet not too sweet and the mushrooms and chicken make it super savory, oh and did I mention that it's only $4!!!! You simply can not get that level of taste for that price anywhere else. For dinner my favorite is the Panang Chicken, $13, which is enough for that meal PLUS lunch the next day. I ate here Friday night for the second time with my husband and our friends. Located in Burke in a strip mall shopping center. Excellent Thai food. Restaurant has been packed both times I have eaten here. Its clean and trendy. They give you great portions too. I ordered their red chicken curry, beef drunken noodles to share with my husband for dinner and for the appetizers we all shared chicken satay and fried calamari. Absolutely delicious. It is close by our house & we wish to support a local establishment; however, convenience can not overcome quality. A server at Panisa wears pimple patches (zit stickers, whatever you want to call them) WHILE SHE SERVES PEOPLE THEIR FOOD. Nope. Nope. Nope. The food still tastes dynamite, but I cannot get it out of my mind that there's always a possibility that one of her pus-laden pimple patches has fallen into my food. It's astonishing management is OK with this and that this isn't a health violation. My husband and I can't stomach it, and we won't be back. Panisa is the best Thai place i've ever been to. I get food from here at least once a week. When i call for a pick up, just from the sound of my voice they know my name. Super friendly and kind staff. There food is amazing! Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles are what I will choose from if i'm feeling indecisive about other dishes. The Lard Na is really good, very savory. Gravy like, but not in an overwhelming way. The Thai Fried Rice will not disappoint. Finally, the Panang curry is perfect because it's a little spicy, sweet, creamy, and soft at the same time. Having been in Fairfax for the last year, my family and I (all Thai food lovers) began immediately sampling the Thai restaurants in the area. We quickly zeroed in on Panisa, and it's been our sole go-to place for both eat-in and take-out for the last ten or eleven months. We've either eaten there or picked up from them between 10-20 times. I've never once been disappointed. I've had Thai food in Thailand, West coast, East coast, South, North, Europe, Middle East... this place ranks up there with the best I've had outside of Thailand itself. I usually get the red curry and my wife usually gets the pad thai or thai fried rice. Her only complaint is that after trying the pad thai during a take-out dinner, she says the pad thai does not travel well and won't order it to go (from any restaurant). In the restaurant, the pad thai is excellent. As is every other dish we've had, although I will say that on one or two occasions, the chicken in the curry is slightly overcooked. Service can be a bit slow at times, but it's always super friendly, even when I grab take-out.
