My boyfriend and I love this cute little Thai restaurant! We found it one night after he convinced me not make us go to Chipotle for the millionth time, and I'm glad he did because Panisa is great. First of all, the atmosphere in this place is adorable and it would make the perfect spot for a first date. Or, really, any date. I really like the chicken satay. Actually, the first time I had it was here and now I'm addicted to it. I've had it other places since then but I think Panisa is my favorite so far. For an entree, I usually get the crispy chicken. To be honest, it's a guilty pleasure but I just can't resist the crunchy fried chicken with that chili sauce. Also, the servers are always amazing. If you're looking for a reasonably priced lunch or dinner spot - this is the place. The pad thai has great flavor and generous portions. My favorite here is the Panisa Thai Noodle Soup! It has a slightly vinegar almost Tom Yum like base to it with yummy rice noodles. There are meat filled fried wontons and huge shrimps that are also placed in the broth! I had a conference call at 8 so needed to grab dinner someplace local. It's been awhile since we ate here so I agreed to the boyfriend's suggestion. We got seated around 6:30, but our server did not take our orders/get our waters until 6:50... That is a huge red flag. We started with the Toong Tong, which are fried dumplings, paired with a sweet chili dipping sauce. The wonton dumplings were filled with plenty of chicken inside, but very dry and dense. The dipping sauce was your typical thai chili sweet sauce from the bottle, just not as thick. Ordered the Chicken Pad Thai and the Pad Crispy Duck. The pad thai was good, very normal, nothing to rave or complain about. The portion were a bit on the smaller side though. We had assumed the Pad Crispy Duck was going to be like Crispy Duck Basil, a typical dish we always order out, especially reading the description on the menu. So maybe this is where we went wrong, the Pad Crispy Duck was fried slices of duck plain, but not covered or sautéed in a sauce, it was accompanied by a dipping sauce that tasted just like the dumpling sauce, just more thinned out and with basil leaves, peppers, and carrot slices for color. It was okay, just not at all what we had hoped it to be. Knowing this, wouldn't order this again though. Service is low to say the least and really tested my patience last night. Chipotle is probably a better option next door for your value and delivers much quicker service. read more

One of the best Thai places in the area! I recently tried Thai restaurants in Fairfax and Ashburn, hoping they would fulfill my craving. But they were no where near as delicious as my old go-to, Panisa. I finally came back here tonight and remembered why I loved it so much. The place was packed tonight (6:30 on a Friday, duh) but the staff handled everything perfectly. Service was a little slower than usual (not an issue with the waitress, I think the kitchen was backed up) but I didn't mind waiting for our food because it was delicious when it arrived. I've never had a disappointing experience at Panisa and as long as I live in Fairfax County, this will be my go-to. read more

Okay, so I'll be honest: I tend to live in a bit of a dining rut, most often preferring the tried-and-true to the new or unexpected. This evening, my dad and I were planning on taking the safe route, eating at Chipotle, but decided to make a stop next door at Panisa instead. Best decision of the day! Now, I'm not the biggest Thai expert, but that doesn't mean I can't say the food here was hot, delicious, and filling. The two of us tried the Wrapped Shrimp appetizer with a delicious pineapple sauce, Beef Pad Thai, and Panisa Magic Fried Rice, a delicious mixture of raisins, rice, cashews, and pineapple. Even the tasty coffee candy on the way out was a treat. I'd definitely eat here again. Prices were reasonable, service was great (even at an off time, we arrived after 8:30), and the location is pretty convenient, too. The only thing less than prime was the atmosphere: a little chilly, not super comfortable; a cheaper feel than the food. One nice touch: one of the walls showcases the artwork of the owner's daughter and niece. Adds to the atmosphere! I'll definitely be back here with the rest of the family. I'm reserving the fifth star until I eat here a few more times and make sure the place really is phenomenal, not merely good. As it stands, my hopes are quite high. read more

Major YUM factor here people! EVERYTHING is delicious, and the veggies appear to be fresh-fresh-fresh every time we dine here. The service is great, and the restaurant is cozy. *We actually eat here so often, at this point they know our names. A few of the many things my husband and I enjoy regularly: Tom Kha soup: (you can get it with chicken or shrimp, both are good, but I really LOVE the shrimp as it's super fresh and flavorful) Red Curry: We love the fantastic flavor and spice of this dish. Not for those who don't like a little heat. Pad See Iew: Can you say ADDICTIVE?!!! I think I could eat this Mon-/Fri and still not be sick of it. Even my 2 yr old loves this stuff. Also, it should be noted I have friends who live all the way out in Leesburg. Thanks to me, they too are hooked on this dish, and they have and gladly will make the drive to eat here. It's good stuff. Real good stuff. Bruces Drunken Noodles: Yum! It's like Pad See Iew, but with a kick. I love the spice too! Pad Thai: Sweet, mild, goodness. It's like a hug on a plate ha-ha. Desserts.... I LOVE everything. Fried Banana, delicious ice cream, and the famous sweet sticky rice with mango. Oh... How I had high hopes for this place but it just turned out to be just all around average. Great wait staff, lovely decor, warm and inviting though a lil loud for such a small establishment. But where it really counts...dare I say epic fail? The basil fried rice is lacking in flavor and some other ingredient though my party and I couldn't quite place it. The duck dish was actually thinly cut slices of duck enveloped in that same sweet and sour cheap batter you'd find at a fast food Chinese restaurant. The drunken noodles weren't bad but they weren't anything special. Disappointing. Panisa Thai has the best Green Curry and Chicken Pad Krapow I've had in Northern Virginia!

They have a new member of staff answering the phone and she's not as good as the male gentleman I usually place my orders with, I'm a regular at this place, so I should know. She had to keep checking with the kitchen whether she could customize my Penang curry, when this is usually no problem. The veggies in my curry were also barely cooked, my husband had the pad see ew with beef and he was disappointed too, saying it was flavorless and had barely any beef. Not sure if they also have a new cook, but things seem to be going downhill for this place. I later called them about my experience, but they did not want to accept any responsibility, nor really listen to what I had to say, they were pretty rude. The steamed Wontons were just okay, I wouldn't get it again. The duck Noodle Soup was also halfway decent. Only one size for the serving, no soup spoon, and the broth was almost bland. Ambiance was good and food is good. The owner can change he wine glasses to have real wine glasses. The ones they have seems to be taken from McDonald kids menu. Everything dies when you having good company good food and suddenly wine or wine glasses Sucks. They can also have some chilies in chilly tray. I have been going to this restaurant occasionally over the last 3 years, an finally took the time to write a review. One thing I have to say that covers that period is the consistent high quality taste of all the dishes I have had whether the first time or regularly like the Calamari, or Chiken Satay for appetizers, and of course the standby Pad Thai. Just overall very good, and nothing I have tried was a dissappointment. For something different but filling try the Yen Tha Fo with the broad rice noodles. Went here with my friend and gf, it was awesome. Ordered tom yum, pad Thai, Thai tea, my gf got the tom kha(?) And my friend got the salad. Everything was delicious. The waitress and waiter were very friendly and attentive. The soda was too sweet for my friend and they took it back no problem ( she only had a sip). I lived next to this place for so long but I actually only been here for a few times.only because I never knew this place exsisted. Ditto to the comment about servers ASSuming that all white Burkies are incapable of eating spicy food. After the server handed me my entree - that I specifically ordered "as hot as your chef will make it" - and I tasted it and said I like it spicier, she told me that the chef was "afraid" to make it any spicier. At that point I pulled out my bottle of scorpion pepper hot sauce from home (not the first time I've been fed this line by the servers), poured it on my dish, and proceeded to eat the whole thing. Their Panang curry actually has good flavor, but since they refuse to make it to my specifications I won't be back. Sad for them since I'm in walking distance of the shopping center. Sadder still that being of European descent, I can make better drunken noodles than them. read more

I love this place. I went there right when it was opened and have been going ever since. (When I have a bad day or need a "treat", I ask my husband to bring me home Panisa) The egg rolls and shrimp appetizer are so delicious and the sauce that comes with it is the best. I've been here several times in the past because of location and convenience. The food has always been mediocre and bland due to them them trying to cater to the western taste buds. In fact, most Asian restaurants in this area tend to be so scared to alienate those taste buds, they go light on the seasoning, resulting in mediocre and underwhelming food. However, went there for lunch today and I was pleasantly surprised. Perhaps there is a new chef or perhaps the old chef was in an aggressive mood. Either way, the flavor of the food has increased positively. Not quite South-East Asian authentic, but compared to the area with mediocre Thai restaurants, this one seems to be heading down the right track. Will plan to visit again in a few weeks to see if this was an anomaly or a trend. read more
