This was our second time visiting, but our first starting with the queso fondido and it was amazing... just get it. Our servers have always been nice and considerate. We are not big drinkers but I might come back for a happy hour someday. The inside space is just the right level of fancy without needing to wear a suit. Great spot for drinks with friends, date night, or even a Mother's Day brunch. Okay I have to brag about the blue corn pancakes. It might sound weird but it's totally worth fit. This was my first time visiting Panxa and I truly enjoyed my experience. I came for a date and was able to find some street parking on a neighboring street. We were greeted immediately upon arriving and being seated (I made a reservation before hand). The ambiance was perfect for a date, casual outing with friends/family or for a solo date. The decor was beautiful, too. I ordered the smoky mango margarita (DELICIOUS) and my date and I shared the cheese dip. I chose this place because it had a lot of vegetarian/vegan options and those food choices didn't disappoint. We got the stacked enchiladas with vegetables with the red/green (Christmas) sauce option. It was good, but do you wish it was seasoned a bit more. The 2nd dish was the vegan baked relleno - SO GOOD and well seasoned. I will definitely get this when I come back. For dessert, we got the Apple friend bread that had an Apple compote (think the filling of apple pie laid on top of the warm cinnamon fried bread) and topped with vanilla ice cream. It was delicious I was scraping the plate. Best of all - checking out was easy because the check is presented with a bar code to pay from your phone. I think this is the best brunch spot in Long Beach! I came here with some friends and we each had an entree and side that was shared. While some sides contained ingredients I don't like, I could seriously appreciate the balance of flavors and spices. I had the Benedict entree and ate it so fast, it was bliss. The short rib dishes were also fantastic then and during leftovers. I absolutely recommend this spot! Just be warned that it can get very loud in the restaurant - the music is a bit loud which makes everyone talk louder and it became a bit much. Then I looked on google and I was surprised- truly, undeniably, surprised- that Panxa, in fact, did not have an X in its spelling. And you want to get the spelling of this restaurant right because it is definitely a must! Its food definitely hit the spot, so in this case, X does not help mark the spot! I was meeting a former boss there to have a nice dinner. On a lazy afternoon, I was scrolling through Tik Tok and this spot was spotlighted. It looked good enough, I was sold, plus I am proud that Long Beach is expanding its cuisine-scape. And this place, I can see becoming a staple of Long Beach fine dining. Glad I can help this place find its rightful place among Long Beach vast cuisine-scape. Now the place offers New Mexican cuisine. I thought that this meant that it had updated versions of traditional Mexican fare, but, no it had food from the state of New Mexico. And to the best of my ability, I can describe the food of Panxa as Mexican food, heightened by Native American flavors and colors (the colors of the wind), thoughtful culinary skills, and California cuisine flare. The food was refreshing yet familiar. I can see it appealing to casual grubbers and discerning foodies alike. My former boss and I began with the Goat Cheese Stuffed Squash Blossoms. (I originally wrote Cherry Blossoms, but the menu corrected me). The decision was guided by Tik Tok and I am grateful for the influence- cause the blossoms were perfectly fried. They had that golden crunch, that you yearn for when you order something deep fried. The crunch is there but it is light and fluffy and kind of warm, in a strong yet modest way. Get these, just cause of this golden crunch- you'll be delighted. My former boss ordered the Pozole. The Pozole, when it arrived, looked odd as it came in a boat dish. Meaning that it was a soup/broth bowl that was stretched-- so instead of the bowl having depth for volume, it had horizontal room for content. It looked delicious-- the hominy looked, like it did not from a can, which is the best type of hominy- fresh, home grown and true to its earthly womb. But I did not try it-- so I can only speak to its value, that I only gathered from sight. I did taste my choice-- the Fry Bread Taco-- and boy-- it was yum city! I opted for the short rib taco, I could have gotten chicken (which I eat almost on the daily) or Veggie toppings or Pork. Both seemed somehow less when compared to the Short Rib option. My dish was filling, engaging to eat, familiar but new--- in short, a joy to enjoy! I did get the salsa on the side. The Chimayo Red Sauce was spicy. I broke a piece of my Fry Bread to taste the sauce, and I was grateful that I had the presence of mind to order it on the side. But, here is the thing- I have grown old enough too know that spice is no longer for me cause my stomach pays the price. And it is a true discomfort and ouch, when I enjoy the spicy flavors of dishes. After the meal, she and I were pleasantly full. Dessert was not option. I did take a tres leches home, cause it was my mom's birthday. They provided me candles to help create a celebratory vibe when I offered the dessert to my mom. She did not use the candles, and she saved the dessert for the next day. She just does not subscribe to the believe that birthdays are just cause for celebration. But when I tried it the next day- the tres leches dessert- I continued to be wowed!. It was moist in the right way, it was sweet in the right way too, it was a further pleasure to enjoy! The place is decorated swell. I particularly enjoyed the wall mural of a Native American looking proudly into the horizon of a turquoise sky. I hope you go here, you deserve a good dining experience that can stay below 100 dollars. Which is become increasingly rare with inflation and all that. We use to frequent panxa for a while pre-covid days and the food was always delicious. We didn't really stop coming for any reason and were looking for a brunch spot over the weekend and decided to return. We are sure glad that we did! The food was amazing! It wasn't very busy on a Saturday around 2pm and we got seated right away for a party of 6. The restaurant is also really cute and has tulum-type of vibes so makes it a great spot to go to with friends/date. Brunch is until 3pm so we were able to order from the brunch and lunch options. We started with the charred queso Oaxaca for the table, this was sooo good! Super cheesy and we got it with short rib, served with tortilla chips and pita-type bread. This got us very excited for what the rest of our food would be like. I went with the stacked enchiladas, which is what helped make panxa's popularity grow within the Long Beach area (according to our server). I understand why, they're so good! The tortillas are stacked on top of each other (just as the name states) versus rolled like in typical enchilada style. The green sauce makes the dish forsure, and I ordered them with short rib. My favorite though was the "New Mexican" pizza, this has green Chile beef (you could sub the meat, but I honestly enjoyed it this way). The crunchy tortilla with the mixture of the meat and sauce is chefs kiss. The other people in my party ordered the chilaquiles and fried chicken and waffles. They were all good! The chilaquiles were crunchy with red sauce, choice of meat, and an egg on top. The waffle was a corn bread waffle, which was different, but paired perfectly with the chicken. We were all satisfied with our meals, I would suggest any of those dishes. We also ordered a couple bottles of champagne to go with our brunch. Their house bottles are $31 now, which is a little steeper than what they use to be ($20 a fee years ago) and $38 total if you order the juice flight. But the star here is the food anyway so it's probably better to try and make happy hour if you want more drinks with your meal. The menu covers all the basics so you'll have no trouble finding your favorite Mexican fare, all for under $20 per meal (plenty of plates and soups are around $15). Came here on a Sunday night and it wasn't too busy at all, so no wait time which was awesome. The food is fantastic, I had the 7 Point Elk Burger cooked medium-rare and it was both delicious and juicy. Not gamey flavored at all, you'd never guess it wasn't beef. The fries are nice and extra crispy, no sogginess here (unless your into that kind of thing). The decor is pretty cool, and it's a nice atmosphere overall especially for a date night or social gathering with friends. The service is so-so, my girl was dressed nicely and I was dressed down to say the least - so not sure if that played into the lack of service but you should never be judging people by how they look (some of us just like to be comfortable). Our table was visited 1-2 times during our meal just to refill water. After our table was cleared we had to wait another 3-5 mins for the check which just seemed odd since the restaurant was not busy. Parking can be a pain to find so keep that in mind. The place has a lot of natural lighting with latin decor inspiration and a good flow around each table. For food I order an espresso martini, green Chile cornbread, chicken and waffles, and blue corn pancakes. Now I'm not a drinker so the martini was very strong to me haha but I tried my best to get it down but only managed about half of it. I think it could have used more coffee The corn bread was absolute perfection soft, moist, buttery, and with a little kick Chicken and waffles were very good and I like that they used a chicken breast instead of a thigh or wing. The seasoning they use is great and it comes out really crunchy. The waffle also had great spicing that paired great with the maple syrup The blue corn pancakes we're almost as good as a pancake can get but they were somewhat wet in the middle. When I asked about it the response I got was "because of the batter being made with corn that's how they will come out" so I just had to take their word for it but it still didn't seem right to me to be eating a pancake that looked undercooked in the middle All in all, I'd go back especially because it doesn't get that busy. I love this place. It's my go-to neighborhood restaurant that is walking distance from my place and I love to take people here when they come to visit. It's Mexican food with a New Mexico, modern twist that is very flavorful and delicious. I've always came for dinner or happy hour, but I finally got to try their brunch and very satisfied that I did. For the second year in a row we did our work holiday lunch here where they were able to accommodate about 15 of us (but we did make a reservation in advance to ensure there was space for all of us). The atmosphere is wonderful for lunch. Very open space with lots of light from all the windows. Service was great for our large party. The servers were very attentive with refilling waters, sodas, etc. and bringing all the food out in a timely manner for such a large party. We ordered a few appetizers to share as a table. The Green Chile Cornbread with the Whipped Honey Butter is incredible. Like truly I could have just ordered that and ate it for lunch. We also had a few orders of the Chips and Dips, which was nice because you get guacamole, black bean dip, and salsa so there is something for everyone. For lunch, I ordered the short rib posole. The drink: Oaxacan Garden my sister said it was aiiight, like drinking lemonade with Tajin. lol The conclusion: My sister and I liked some of the food but not all.
