It was pretty empty because of social distancing requirement. The place is cozy. Parking was tough. I had to park in a residential area and had to walk a bit, which was ok. Happy hour! I've been wanting to try this place for awhile so we decided to come for happy hour. We mistakenly order a lot on the menu expecting it to be small portions but we were surprised! We had a lot of food. We ordered the Margapeño margarita, guava margarita, ceviche (free with check in), frito pie, shrimp taco, chicken chimichanga, and poblano fries. Everything was great. The chimichanga was my favorite and my boyfriend loved the ceviche. I also really enjoyed the guava margarita. Overall happy hour was a success! read more

Nope ... No ... Definitely Not ... Cannot understand why this place has such good reviews. Decided to give this place a try for Happy Hour with co-workers. Everything seemed against us from the beginning. 1. Parking is not terrible, but it's all street parking and not very convenient next to the restaurant. 2. Drinks aren't very good. I had both the El Burro and the New Fashioned. Both were just ok, and definitely not worth the price (which was more than some bargained for ... that is coming up). 3. Food was ok at best. We tried many of the appetizers: cauliflower, queso, potatoes, etc. None of them were terrible, though if you asked me to recommend one, I couldn't - none of them were memorable at all. The general them of this place is if you put cheese on it, it'll taste good. A decent life motto I guess, but didn't work so much here. 4. The service was no bueno. I say this time and time again, but companies in the food industry are providing a service just as much as a product. Service is a big component of my review, and the reason this otherwise 2.5-3 star review fell down to a 1. Our waiter made condescending remarks when we were still in earshot and wasn't around nearly enough. Also when we ordered drinks at the bar, they automatically transferred our tab over to the table - and charged us the higher (non Happy Hour) price. If you're going to charge me more money (plus the gratuity) then please inform me before you do so. Now all of this would have been understandable if the place was packed, and my group of coworkers wasn't worth the space we were taking up. But when a place isn't really full on a friday at 6ish, is it really worth making your biggest table uncomfortable and unhappy. It's just bad business. Anyway, I can't say this place is without its positives. The ambiance is nice for a date (dark ... like cheesecake factory dark) and the the bar area is cool (so are the bartenders), but I can't recommend it and I won't be back. Stay Cheerful ;) read more

We received ceviche (free with check in), we ordered Charred Queso Oaxaca (comes with a side of tortilla chips and delicious charred bread), Pan Seared Scallops (delicious creamy risotto ), and the grilled seasonal fish served with delicious creamy rajas. Panxa Cocina has been a long time favorite of ours. We live about 40 miles from Long Beach and travel here a few times a year because it is THAT GOOD. We went there over Valentine's Day weekend and their outdoor patio was spaced very well for COVID precautions. Their menu is smaller right now than it normally is, but that was okay and forced me to try something new. My fiancé normally orders the stacked enchiladas - the short rib is really to die for. Soft and tender and pair perfectly with the red and green sauces. I normally get the ablondigas con spaetzle. So, so good. And while the food is amazing, the drinks are even better. I crave their margaritas. They are perfectly balanced, not too sweet, not too sour, just the right about of alcohol. Run, don't walk to this place if you are thinking about it! read more

Nestled in a residential neighborhood is this restaurant with a bartender who is pushing the envelope on new and exciting cocktails. Upon arrival I was happy to see there were some seats in the bar area available for me and my family. Greg ( our bartender/server/hostess) sat us and promptly explained the menu and gave us time to mull it all over. My family and I all went in with open minds and decided to let Greg recommend drinks for us and all we did was give him a brief description of flavors and types of drinks we like. He came back with several satisfying drinks, and even tweaked a couple a little more to our liking. While waiting for our food we watched the Dodger's game on the flat screen TV's and talked about the array of liquors on display. Once our food came out we were all excited to dig in. My personal favorite were the calamari fries! I remember saying "why can't everyone serve calamari like this?" another favorite was the corn, which came in a bowl with a spicy sauce and queso fresco. For dessert the flan hit the spot. After completing our meal we decided to try a couple of tequila's. Greg was nice enough to again recommend a few and explain their flavor profiles, and background while we tasted them. Our group ordered 4 different entrees to try- the favorite all around was the short rib stacked enchiladas with the green sauce. It was my friends birthday. She drove an hour away and wanted to dine here last night since she loved the food and specially the drinks. Food was good as always, but our margarita pitcher NEVER made it to our table. We were the first one to be seated on the Broadway street side tables along with other six table empty tables. Ten of us came here for Eat LBC Week. It started off good and ended up awful. I was able to make reservations through Yelp for 10 persons. Reservations through Open Table would only take up to 6. They honored out reservations and were ready for us when we arrived. Everyone arrived on time; we either ordered off of the Eat LBC menu or the regular menu. All of our food was good (shrimp, chicken, and short rib enchiladas; steak and potatoes; roasted chicken with a sauce). A couple of people had Cabernet, and that's where the problem started. Between the 10 of us we left at least $500 at that table. Yet the waitress hounded us about one glass of wine in which she misordered (the other three people had their wine on their checks.). She insisted that one of my guests who only had a glass of water had also ordered wine. The other nine of us told her that this customer only had water, but the waitress insisted that she pay for it. My friend would have paid for it if it weren't for the rest of us. This back and forth was ridiculous! We asked to see the manager. The manager was too busy to come over, so the back and forth continued. Approximately 20 minutes later, she finally said "That's okay, I'll just pay for it from my check." Which, if that was the issue, she should have done anyway, taking into account that she had tips from 10 persons at one table. This awful customer service dowered our whole experience. read more

This is my new favorite restaurant in Long Beach! I'm kicking myself for not trying it sooner. Before I moved here I drove past it every day for my commute and always wanted to try it! I would classify this as upscale latin cuisine without the hefty price tag. (That being said please don't raise your prices!) The food here is delicious and masterful. The cocktails are unique and refreshing. The presentation of everything is so beautiful, and everything is quite affordable for the quality and attention to detail. On top of that, the atmosphere is romantic and beautiful. The soft lighting from the beautiful lanterns as well as the artwork on the walls makes for a beautiful experience. For an appetizer we ordered the potato cheddar pancakes. Not only did they look well presented but they tasted absolutely delicious. We also got the check in deal of a free ceviche. I've honestly only had ceviche once or twice and did not enjoy it either time, but this ceviche was to die for. The fish was soft and a great flavor, and the punch of lime was so perfect I inhaled this dish. Our entrees were the flat iron steak and the braised short rib. Both dishes were melt in the mouth good. I especially loved the salsa verde as a complement to the short rib, and the bleu cheese stuffed fried shishito peppers were my absolute favorite (I am a bleu cheese junkie). The portion of short rib was huge and filling, especially after I stuffed my face with appetizers. I tried two drinks- the guava margarita and the lavender old fashioned. The margarita was light and refreshing, well made, and not too sweet. The old fashioned was so interesting and a perfect flavor. For dessert we shared the Biscochito donuts with creme anglaise. It was also served with a to-die-for salted caramel sauce. The donuts were fresh made with cinnamon sugar and so doughy. To be honest I think a couple of them were still raw in the middle but I still gobbled them up, lived to tell the tale, and will order them again. read more

Each dish was the perfect combination of sour, spicy and a hint of sweet (not cloyingly, I'm not a fan of too sweet), they were very well thought of, the chef and staff nailed this! From slow braised meat, with perfect heat and amazing texture, to grilled flat bread and an amazing light salad. Ambience had a rustic feel with a touch of modern, a "New Mexico" sensibility. Very beautiful restaurant in a quaint neighborhood. Came here last night and the food was good. Last night we ordered the charred queso oaxaca, ceviche mixto, and navajo taco. The ceviche mixto was absolutely delicious and is probably the one dish I would order again. It was made with whitefish which was very fresh. The charred queso on the other hand was cold by the time it got to the table, so it was hard getting any cheese onto the bread. The navajo taco is not your typical taco. I got it made with shrimp, which was big jumbo shrimp, but there were about two pieces of shrimp in my dish. The taco was tostada style, but not. The shrimp, pickled slaw, creama Oaxaca were on a piece of bread as opposed to a taco shell. Very interesting. It was delicious, just did not get my taco craving satisfied. Not sure if I'd order that dish again, but since I'm pescatarian, it was one of the few options I had. Will definitely be back, but will try other dishes next time. This restaurant was one of my favorites for brunch but today was weird and I didn't like the experience. My table was still wet, flies everywhere. I ordered 2 coffees and they came out lukewarm. Our appetizer tasted different. When we got our food, the pancakes were undercooked and my food was cold. Our waiter took our order and completely disappeared until we were already eating to ask if we needed anything else.
