The six dollar pizza from Aldi that was way better than the Papa Johns pizza I ordered the day before.

A Tale of Two Pizzas Buckle up, Buckaroo. I'm about to tell a little story. So back in the late 90's, Papa Johns was my after school job. I swear, it was so good back then, with their cheese sticks and all those dipping sauces. I must have eaten a thousand pizzas from there. In fact, for that very reason I haven't eaten Papa Johns more than probably a dozen times or so since the Dawn of the 21st century. That being said, a couple of weeks ago we got a coupon for a free pizza, and I was hell bent on making that free pizza the first meal Kat and I ate in our new house. Yesterday was a huge day....homeowners, finally!! We did all the exciting couple things, walking through and coming up with ideas, meeting neighbors, all the fun stuff. We decided to use our free papa Johns coupon to make them our first meal in the new house. I was quite excited about a free meal after purchasing a house in todays market, after all. We attempted a couple of times to use their mobile app, but to no avail. Every time we'd enter the coupon code, it would kick us back to the beginning. We were starting to get really hungry, so we ordered the old school way, by calling the store. I placed my order and they accepted my coupon, which was great. The wheels fell off this thing once I got to the store, however. So from jump street, I'll say it was refreshing to see a store with half a dozen smiling, cheerful employees. That is rare in this day and age, and the two stars from this review are all theirs. The loss of three stars belongs to the food quality. So to start it off, my coupon was not applied by the call taker, which apparently is overseas now, and my total for a large pepperoni pizza with a 2 liter of soda was more than $17. A quick explanation and the gentleman at the register reapplied my coupon and I was good to go. Got the pizza home, and it was just not great. The quality isn't there anymore. The pizza is very doughy, with way too much crust. The cheese had this weird, under-done quality that I can't really describe, but it was not good. The toppings were sufficient in amount, but the garlic sauce, always my favorite part, has changed in its composition at some point in the past 20 years, which was a bummer. All in all, I'd have been very upset if I had paid full price for this. We didn't let it ruin our first meal in the house, but it is what it is. So the next day..... I had been at the new house, working on our kitchen remodel that i am undertaking on my own, and Kat was on her way over after work, and she brought a frozen pizza from Aldi to throw into the oven. This was a 16 inch thin crust "all the meats" pizza, which cost about $6. No hassle, no mess, just threw it in the oven for less than 15 minutes and we had a huge, crunchy, tasty pizza covered in toppings. This house is empty so I ended up cutting it with a putty knife, since we didn't have a pizza cutter. Between that and three beers, this was the dinner we should have had last night. It was perfection, and I have included a photo to prove it. I knew this would be better, because we have not ordered a delivery pizza from anyone ins three years, ever since we found out about Aldi's six dollar pizzas. You can't beat the price, or the quality, in my opinion. Thanks to inflation, delivery charges and varying quality from store to store, it is safe to say in 2022 delivery pizza is doomed. There is no reason to spend $20 or more on delivery when you can get a better product from Aldi for almost a quarter of the prize. Y'all pray for me, this kitchen remodel is no joke.

Delicious, cheesy steak & onion goodness.

A four star with grace, rather than a three star. I was…read moresurprised to walk into this seemingly "fast food" restaurant to see a sign that said, "please wait to be seated." Wow! Not even ordering at the counter and getting a number, but a legit throwback to the old timey diner approach where the order is taken at the table. Which is great except it took five minutes from our entry in the restaurant to taking our order (or any attention). But there was the floor manager and one person waitstaff and in my opinion, the waitress was hustling and her "boss lady" was not, but the boss lady was delivering the food orders. We were concerned about the wait time since there were four or so tables that came in around the same time and the staff sort of acted surprised that lunch hour was upon them. At any rate, we did order 5 minutes post arrival and drinks came 6 minutes after ordering them and another 9 minutes the food arrived. For those of you keeping score at home, it was 20 minutes from arrival at the restaurant to arrival of the food, or 6 minutes from ordering until food was served. Which is pretty good. I noted all of this since it was a sit down and order process and I was curious how the timing would stack up on that. Under the short staffed circumstances, I was impressed. Which is why I went the extra star instead of dinging them on the initial time thing, but I will say that at first we considered bolting for another restaurant because we didn't know how much longer this was going to take. Good recovery, though! The restaurant was playing low volume country music and they have really good brewed iced tea. We were done all total and comfortably within 36 minutes and that is important for the lunch hour crowd. Even served a "to go" iced tea. "When in Rome....", so of course, my order was the signature "Steakburger, Original Double with Cheese." This features two thinly smashed steak patties, American cheese, pickle slices, onion, ketchup, and mustard on a toasted bun. Maybe they invented the smash burger, it certainly tastes like that, man is that a good burger! The meat is smashed on the grill to give a lacy, crunchy edge to the patty for what they call a "signature texture", and now I call it that too. It is made from freshly ground, higher end cuts of beef, hence the "steak" part of the "steakburger." The fries were as advertised, shoe-string, with slight crunch exterior, soft interior and cooked in 100% beef tallow. Very good, but they are all random sized, so eating them in bunches is more challenging. I was pleasantly surprised with the food and speed and can see this being a regular burger joint for us.

Food here is even better - Tommie, our server made the experienced ten times better. Great charm and if she was near Atlanta, I'd need her working in my hotels or restaurants.

The bread to fillings ratio can be just right without the bread overwhelming the sandwich with either size or flavor, making for a good balance. My biggest problem with every Jimmy John's is the loudness of the music. I understand it is designed that way intentionally to encourage quick customer turnover. I actually looked it up and got this, "loud music stimulates a subconscious feeling of being in a fast-paced environment, which encourages customers to eat quicker and leave sooner. Ultimately, the loud music is a deliberate environmental cue designed to align with the brand's 'freaky fast' service model, focusing on efficiency rather than a leisurely meal." Well, they hit the mark, congratulations, Jimmy John's. But I can honestly say that on more than a handful of times, I have passed by JJ to get to Jersey Mike's for this reason. The only saving grace is speedy service on to-go orders and outdoor seating areas. We just agree to disagree on this one thing.

Ron the district manager "confirmed" with me that the home office was issuing a refund but now it has been more than 20 days since he told me that. Nate the store manager was kind when I spoke with him several times about the issue and seemed to understand my frustration. Prior to this experience, I had enjoyed the food at this location.
