I've stayed overnight multiple times in Albuquerque, but always had hotel or fast food. This time I made a little more effort in food choices and I am sooooo glad I did! This place is unsuspecting, but you watch long enough and you'll see the traffic coming in and out to pick ups or dine in. Not only was the service extremely friendly but the food was AMAZING!! I asked what the popular item was, she suggested the Carne Asada Taco Plate and - this was everything I was looking for. 2 soft corn tacos with beans, rice, and with the extra corn tortilla, you can get 4 tacos!! Great, friendly service. I got the huevos rancheros, and it was really good! The green chile didn't have much of a kick, but luckily I got Xmas on the side. The red was spicy and perfect. My wife and I love this place. It is our #1 choice for New Mexican food in Albuquerque. The service is always fantastic and the food is top-notch. The hard-shell taco plate with green chili ground beef is definitely one of our favorites. But there are so many more! The Machaca and bean burrito, the picadilla plate, the taco salad, the carne adovada, ... they're all delicious. I love the green chili sauce as well. Flavorful, but not too hot! Love love love this place! It's a hole in the wall with a dinky bathroom but boy do they know how to make good food! If you're looking for authentic Mexican this is it. The beans and rice taste just like my aunty made them. You can get classic street tacos (onions, cilantro) or gussy them up with salsa, guac, lettuce, tomatoes. Personally, I like the classic street tacos because they taste more authentic and this place knows what they're doing. The complimentary chips and salsa are good too. In terms of freshness their chips are probably one of the best in town. Salsa is good too but very mild. Ask for spicier stuff if that's your thing. read more

This place was so incredibly amazing!! Quite possibly the best Mexican food I've ever had! Disclaimer: I didn't care for their salsa. It was spicy and lacked flavor, but I cannot handle heat. I ordered the chicken quesadilla and holy crap... I was in heaven. It was so cheesy, the tortilla was light and fluffy, the chicken was perfectly cooked, and most importantly, it seems like they used some type of seasoning salt when cooking it, which was the most amazing seasoning I've ever had. So sad that I was only in new Mexico for 4 days because I would gladly come here over and over again. read more

Where to begin? Hmm, well first off this visit was on a Tuesday, of course, it's kind of a law ya know to eat tacos on a Tuesday, right? However, it was exactly one week later after we eat at Casa Taco, and they were still fresh in our minds. Having this written, we were left with no other option but comparing the two, and sadly, Papa Nachos paled in comparison. They just didn't have that pizazz, that unique flavor that we experienced at Casa Taco. Papa Nachos was just, dare I say, bland. Maybe it is a geographical thing, or the day of the week, but they seemed to attract an alarming amount of senior citizens. Not as if there's anything wrong with that, it just struck us as odd, is all. It's rather small, but nice. And their shining stars are indeed the employees! VERY nice, to write the least! They seemed to do the teamwork method, apposed to the one server method, but all of them were super nice. If great service with a great smile ranks high on your list, you cannot go wrong here. This is the best Mexican restaurant in town! We looked for years until we finally found this gem. Every dish we've had here has been wonderful. The blend of spices, the balance of ingredients and the texture of the meat is mouth watering. My personal fav, Papa's machaca, is out of this world fantastic. The food is good but the prices are way too high- since Covid, prices never came back down and service never came back up. They are essentially take-out food with paper plates if you choose to eat in. They overcharge for meals that should be cheaper than a good eat-in restaurant. I have to say that Papa Nachos serves my favorite tacos in New Mexico. And I may as well say they are my favorite tacos anywhere! What I especially like about them is that they make the taco shells right there. I can't think of any place else that still does that. Normally you get the pre-fab taco shells. I was just there this week and I ordered the ''E'' Combo with the chicken taco and enchilada and red chile on the side. I believe they were white meat, but whatever they were, the quality was very good. There was also rice and pinto beans on the plate. I liked the rice better than the beans but I'm not usually a bean fan to begin with. I like that this restaurant gives you a free basket of chips and salsa. That is something you don't find everywhere...at least not in Albuquerque. The restaurant is not fancy, but it's comfortable. It's right next door to a clean laundromat. That was very convenient for me because I needed an oversized washing machine to wash a heavy futon cover. I put my wash in and went next door to Papa Nacho's for lunch. It's was perfect! read more

This is my guilty pleasure food! It's filling, large portions, and true New Mexican food! I always order to go and we eat with my in-laws at their house. It's kinda a tradition at this point! The salsa here is no joke- sometimes it's hot and other times it's something only a true New Mexican should attempt!! I've never had a bad meal and I sometimes switch up my chicken burrito order for various tacos! The burritos are huge and the green Chile sauce that comes with them is awesome! Visited Wednesday, October 5, at 11 AM, with a co-worker. We definitely beat the lunch crowd. This place is a hole in the wall. Small, cozy, and in a strip mall. They have outdoor seating in front of the restaurant. The floor, tables, and bathrooms were all clean. Don't let the small size fool you, this place is big on flavor. I ordered the Machaca and bean burrito smothered in Christmas chile. First off, the burrito was huge, see my attached photo. The red AND green chile had some heat and the perfect amount of roasted bite. The cheese was generous and the burrito was stuffed with machaca beef with a few beans thrown in. I loved the fact that there was more beef than beans. Oh the beef, great flavor, moistness, it melted in my mouth. It was so good I finished this massive burrito in one sitting. The iced tea is made fresh, and the waitress never let our glasses go below half full. The lemon is freshly cut. Chips and salsa were fresh. The salsa had some heat. It would be listed as hot, not medium. My co-worker liked it so much, he suggested we have work meetings here. A little pricey, but well worth it. I'll be back. read more
