Visited Wednesday, October 5, at 11 AM, with a co-worker. We definitely beat the lunch crowd. This place is a hole in the wall. Small, cozy, and in a strip mall. They have outdoor seating in front of the restaurant. The floor, tables, and bathrooms were all clean. Don't let the small size fool you, this place is big on flavor. I ordered the Machaca and bean burrito smothered in Christmas chile. First off, the burrito was huge, see my attached photo. The red AND green chile had some heat and the perfect amount of roasted bite. The cheese was generous and the burrito was stuffed with machaca beef with a few beans thrown in. I loved the fact that there was more beef than beans. Oh the beef, great flavor, moistness, it melted in my mouth. It was so good I finished this massive burrito in one sitting. The iced tea is made fresh, and the waitress never let our glasses go below half full. The lemon is freshly cut. Chips and salsa were fresh. The salsa had some heat. It would be listed as hot, not medium. My co-worker liked it so much, he suggested we have work meetings here. A little pricey, but well worth it. I'll be back. read more

Ever since an owner and friend of ours of another 5 star restaurant here in ABQ recommend we come during the pandemic for take out; we are now loyal patrons and crave their menu options. The owners are also wonderful human beings that put their hearts into their recipes! Out-Standing!!! My husband has been raving about this place forever and we finally made it here together so I could try it out. Older building but very well maintained and super clean! Service is outstanding. Friendly and courteous and very attentive. We even heard our waitress give advice to a table of folks from out of town who weren't sure what to order. I had shredded beef enchilada with green. The beef was wonderful and perfectly cooked and spiced. They were generous with the delicious green chile sauce and queso fresco. Chips and salsa were even top notch. Very fresh and crispy chips and the salsa has a great bite and fresh homemade flavor. Will be back again and again for sure!! read more

Finally found some good Mexican food!! This is not New Mexican food. It's Mexican food and it's delicious. The chile verde was just like I would eat as a child growing up in California. Same for the enchilada! We will definitely be back. We had been once before on a Friday for lunch and it was so packed we walked out. I really enjoyed the hard taco plate. Even ordered an extra taco, so yummy. They have not returned to the normal dinnerware. Possibly, a lot of restaurants are struggling finding labor. I definitely want to go back, though is a bit of a ride for me. read more

So I've heard people rave about this place several times. Had to try it for my self service was really great and to my surprise the little place was filled to the last table. This was our second visit to Papa Nachos and we absolutely love it!!!! Not only is the food amazing, but the owners are the kindest and friendliest ladies. Let's start with the salsa, it's about the best I've ever had - it has the perfect amount of heat and the flavor is spot on. The beans are perfectly cooked and are a little creamy with a ton of flavor that I can only describe as umami. And don't get me started on the rice! It's fluffy, has the perfect amount of salt and I'm guessing some kind of magical chicken broth. The taquitos, chicken and beef, are so flavorful and perfectly crisp without being dry. The only bad thing I can say is that I've missed out on being able to enjoy their food the past 30 years by having only discovered it in the past couple of months. Papa Nachos is a locally owned and family operated restaurant that must be added to everyone's monthly local restaurant rotation!!! read more

Really good food, authentic Mexican, great service, doesn't get much better without going to Mexico!

Was in Albuquerque from Santa Fe for the day on business and figured we'd grab lunch. Yelp delivered this restaurant as a viable Mexican Food option. Santa Fe is loaded with New Mexican food establishments; however, no real south of the border "hole in the wall" type Mexican Food. Starting with the chips and salsa, the place did not disappoint. In fact, it was one of the best traditional Mexican meals I have had to include mariachi music playing in the background. The salsa was a 10 for sure so much we took some to go. The server was prompt and polite. I had the taco plate with one beef and one chicken taco and my girl had the green enchilada plate with rice and beans. On the way out I chatted it up with the cook who it turns out is also from the Los Angeles area. They have a patio too which is dog friendly. Highly recommend and we'll certainly be back while in the ABQ. read more

The food here was horrible and flavorless. The ladies working were nice. We ordered queso which came out to be ballpark nacho cheese. There were hard bits in my rice and the refried beans were like a soft inedible paste. The green Chile and the chicken quesadilla were good, but the three different burritos we ordered were awful. The food and service are always top notch, and the family couldn't be friendlier! It's our "go to" local restaurant for lunch or dinner.

The taco salad was a hot mess. Beans and beef slimed together with melted cheese in an overcooked shell. It tasted like crap. No actual salad except a few prieces of iceberg lettuce. I left it mostly uneaten. The server actually asked me if I wanted a to go box after telling her the salad was not a salad and tasted awful. My husband had the shredded beef enchiladas. He said they were good because the sauce was spicy. He did not touch the beans because they were refried. Papa's does not offer whole beans. The three stars is generous. It was actually two stars. Added one star for the low prices. However we will won't be back. Really too bad because we've really had excellent food during our week stay in Albuquerque. read more

It was ok at best but I am from Texas so I am used to a different kind of Mexican food I guess . The hot sauce had no sass to it at all . The rice tasted like the bottom was burned and they served it anyway . The servers were both really nice to the regulars but did not try to engage me at all . I didn't get my tea until after my food arrived . I liked that they knew their regulars and their orders , it shows they care for them . Not so great for the new customers but I was passing though and heard it was good . read more

Great simple food. Very friendly staff. Have had dinner there a number of times, sampling a few of the platters as well as a burrito. It's all reasonably priced with large portions. If I were to have a single complaint, it's that I wish there was a little more variety in the meals. It's extremely meat heavy (such is the local cuisine), which I'm sure many love but it's not so much for me. NOTE: contrary to the other reviewer, the rice is *not* vegan. It has chicken stock. Found this little family restaurant gem searching google. Enjoyed chips and salsa from the start. I ordered the carne asada taco platter. The two tacos were good sized and packed with meat. The meat was delicious on its own and equally good with onions and cilantro on top. Every piece of meat was tender and lean. I look forward to experiencing more of the menu. read more

Good, but not great, food. I tried the chicaronnes burrito, which was interesting but the meat was too dry. Wife got the enchilada and chile relleno combination plate, which was better but still unremarkable. Another hole in the wall gem. The 1st time was to go, there was no indoor seating. Two orders of street tacos. The corn tortillas are thin, so we didn't get overly full - a good thing. Our food was lukewarm when we finally got it home and had the chance to eat it(no fault of theirs). But it was still delicious, the next time was dining on the porch. Still no indoor seating. Chips and salsa to start. The salsa was good, not too hot or overpowering. I had the shredded beef burrito with red on the side. The plate was came out - it looked pretty good and was served as ordered. The rice was a little dry, (not unusual) and well seasoned. The beans were tasty, topped with cheese, but not overly so. The burrito? Well it was delicious. The beef was well seasoned and very tasty. The flour tortilla was thin, not doughy. Just thick enough to keep the meat rolled up. Rating this Restaurant was the easiest decision for me so far in ABQ. Everything about Papa Nachos is perfect, even the location! It's in walking distance from where I live and far enough away from all other places. So, there are mainly guests from the surrounding area. I've been here a few times and was never disappointed. But, today was birthday and Christmas on one day. The Fajita special w/ steak was overwhelming and probably the best Fajitas I ever had in my life. Closed Sunday and Monday. What an underrated and spectacular joint on Louisiana off of Paseo. It's out of the way but well worth the drive. They have some of the best chips and salsa in town. This is our first visit at Papa Nacho's. They are about five minutes away from the house, but in a nondescript neighborhood strip mall, so have never come across it. Thanks to Yelp, we expanded our horizons. They don't have much atmosphere, and the chips are so-so, but the salsa is really good. Lots of tomato and garlic with a slow-building burn. My husband had the carne Adovada burrito which was huge and well-seasoned. I had a combination plate with a relleno and shredded beef enchilada. The shredded beef was on the chewier side for me, but the relleno was perfection. The hubster liked his burrito as well. Well seasoned meat and very tender. Overall, it was a great lunch for not a lot of bucks. Not a spot for a special meal, but a great pick for a tasty Mexican meal. Solid pick! read more
