Papas and Pollo are a regular stop for me and my family. They keep a clean kitchen. All of their dishes are solid to even spectacular! My favorite dish of theirs use to be the surf & turf burrito. It's a good cut of steak & fire grilled shrimp. I'm vegetarian now...at least most of the time I am. My new favorite is the Tofu Temptation. I'd advise all people to stop by for a meal. Asked the lady who was bringing the food outside were our order was. She had already served at the least 20 people already... 20 min later someone went an asked again. Newly reopened with surfing theme but the fresh fish tacos are the draw, using locally caught varieties from Bodega Bay. Went back two days in a row! Never get tired of the mesquite grill flavor. Big Plus: when the Giants are playing, beers are happy-hour priced and lately they have been pouring Lagunitas' Little Sumpin IPA, which is one of my all time favorite brews. They have other Lagunitas brews as well. Since everything is prepared fresh in front of your eyes, it's not fast food at all so a little patience is called for, but for me and my wife, it's been worth the wait everytime. They support local producers and we support local restaurants... win-win. read more

Nice little restaurant. Definitely fresh food with reasonable price. Four stars for food: ordered stuffed yam with smoked pork ~ meat very tasty and definitely goes along with yam!!! One star for the chips: definitely cannot compare with the other Mexican restaurants, they were pretty greasy and sad. It's good that they give to me with my order. Otherwise, what a waste of money~they ended up in the trash. One star for parking: finding parking space during dinner time is pretty much impossible unless you have an awesome luck. Best salsa this place has. Not too hot, not too chunky, not to blended, and with the right amount of smokiness. Our little guy does not really eat salsa, but he devoured multiple servings here. I will go back just for the chips and salsa. Everything else we had was pretty good, the beans were a bit bland but just add some salsa and bam - success. This place was okay. I got a carne asada quesadilla and a rice, bean, and cheese burrito. The burrito was really good, but how can someone go wrong with only rice, beans, and cheese? The quesadilla was good. It had LOTS of steak inside which was nice and was also very large too. This is probably the best restaurant in town. Every item on their menu is a solid 10/10, especially the tofu temptation!! There's always a very friendly and positive atmosphere, and the outdoor seating is amazing. I like that they supply organic and local beverages as well as super yummy horchata! My Boyfriend & I have been going here since regularly for the past 5 years or so and its always been AMAZING! The management is great and the food never disappoints, very consistent. We have even used them for catering events and were very happy. In the past 3 months or so there has been a new young woman at the register and she is extremely rude. Barely says hello, looks like she's doing you a favor by taking your order and forgets chips almost every time. Pretty shocking considering everyone else there is so great. I understand being new is tough and takes some adjusting but this is different. Hopefully they wake up and get rid of her. read more

Love the surfing vibe and chill outdoor eating area. Food is excellent and love the salsa. Burritos are sizable and prices are totally reasonable. Lines and parking sometimes, so be patient. I used to love this restaurant years ago. They had great food, lots of fresh ingredients, and most importantly they listened when you customized your order. I was sad when they were closed and watched for them to re-open.... I decided that tonight was the night to give them another try. Not having any menus, I decided to just go order in person and my 10 year old decided to tag along. We had to park over near the fosters freeze because the small lot was full and there is no parking on the street out front (not really their fault, but still worth noting). When we got inside the line to place your order was branched both directions from the counter causing people to wonder who got there first. So after figuring out that it was my turn, I ordered: nachos, baked potato with only cheese, and steak and potato burrito with no beans or greens. We moved off to the side to wait and my daughter was bumped into (and almost knocked over by) a rude pre-teen boy. He walked up to the counter and yelled at the kitchen staff "hey! What's your name... We need more limes in the salsa bar". What's-her-name dutifully cut up some limes and refilled the tub he shoved her way. In a few minutes he was back, demanding a basket of chips. Then he wandered around the restaurant asking people if they were enjoying their food. I looked for an adult who might be I charge of this boy when he walked over, leaned through the counter and started talking to the cooks. They handed him plates and asked him to deliver them... So maybe he is related to an employee/owner? He again bumped into my daughter as he walked past, not even acknowledging it, and delivered plates. He continued to be loud and rude as we stood there, so we moved away to sit down and wait. And boy did we wait! 40 minutes later I went to ask where our food was and the guy behind the counter looked through the tickets. "we can do yours next" he tells me. How long would I have been there otherwise? Finally got the food and went home. Nachos were cold, potato looked like it spent the day under the heat lamp, and burrito was full of beans and greens. This place is awesome! Its one of my favorite post surf food stops in the world! They are not "traditional" Mexican food, so don't go there if that all you like. This place is a step above. Fresh local organic ingredients and the owner is super cool and always asks how the surf was. (Pretty sure the picture on the wall is of him ripping a wave apart) the employees are always really friendly and the burritos are stellar! The tofu Verde is my go too but today I had the braised (in Lagunitas Lil Sumpin ale) pork burrito and now I have a new favortie! They always have some tasty Lagunitas beers on tap as well as Guinness and Pacifico! This is the kind of joint I feel totally comfortable in and like I could just hang out there all day! My girlfriend wanted just a bean, rice and cheese burrito; the menu was a little confusing- when she was explaining what she wanted, the gal helping us seemed "put-out" by her request...weird! plus, her food wasn't what she ordered. Had a great meal at Papas & Pollos last week. We started with the guacamole - nice and fresh. I love the roasted Serrano's on the salsa bar for a kick of heat. I had the fish burrito, made with red snapper and grilled veggies. Lots of flavor, and a nice big portion of fish. My friend had the smoked pork burrito and enjoyed it thoroughly. They have a good selection of quality non-alcoholic beverages, not just soda. I had a coconut water. Service was prompt and the restaurant was warm and clean. We called in an order for 7 of us late last night after our boy's baseball game. When we got there to pick up our food we were met with a welcoming smile and very friendly staff. The woman at the front talked to all of us like we were family and when we left we all had smiles on our faces. When we got home the food was still warm and so delicious and healthy. I am always afraid to eat out because you never really know how the food is handled. The only way to know is to pay attention to how you feel after you eat it. We all felt so full and fantastic after our meal from Papas and Pollo. The parking is lacking, the wines are about 3 oz and that's being generous and the chip/salsa they give you are laughable. The chips are cold and very greasy. The salsa is bland & watery. Had to wait 40 minutes for our dinner and 15 minutes just for our appetizers - nachos and the cheese was burnt. There no small plates to eat off of this appetizer. Also the melted cheese was firm and cold. The burritos were okay but ordered one without beans and sure enough it came with beans. On a scale if 1 - 10 this place should just close and go away. Then to find out that the kitchen had flooded earlier that day was their excuse. Plus, the cashier and order taker just seem that it was a burden to just do her job just by her attitude. Never apologized for anything. The town would be better served this place just goes away. Plus, the parking lot was pitch black and a safety issue. Seems the owners do not care for their customers. I live in Santa Rosa and have been making the drive to P&P for over two years now and must say I have never been disappointed. It was highly recommended by friends. They have a nice selection on their menu but I can't seem to pull away from repeatedly ordering either the pork of chicken on a yam. Yes, a yam. I love yams so when my friends had told me about this particular dish I knew I just had to try it. When you walk in you feel like you're somewhere in Baja with the whole surf/Mexico vibe. So some friends and I went here on 6-28 for my mother's birthday. The restaurant was full of flys. We could barely try to eat our food without a fly landing on our plates or in our cups or on our utensils. The food itself was overpriced and tasteless. The salsa was just red "water" and had no flavor. The tacos we had were terrible with over cooked meat. The pork burrito was funny tasting with a weird sauce and also over cooked. The chips that came with the salsa were very hard and greasy. I could not help but wonder if there were so many flys around (baby ones) were there maggots in the food in the kitchen??
