Terrible service. After 30 minutes of waiting we ask what was taking so long and she said "Oh I didn't put your order in" with no apology. Then while we waited again they had their friends come in and go up to every table begging for money. Our food finally came and it was gross. Worst phone service I've ever had. They rarely get to go orders right. If you add guacamole or sour cream to your dish it's often not there even if you pay for it. The phone is always off the hook at this place. It's always a busy signal! If you are "West County", this is the place for you! I have known of this place for years and heard many wonderful things. Unfortunately last night was the first time I had been in there and apparently it has changed. For starters, there is a great big yellow sign out front that says "New owners". I don't know how long this guy has had it but it appears just this year. If you are a local, and had issues in the past, this may be an open invitation to try again. To those that are non-local (Sebastopol), take it as a warning. When we walked in, there were 3 groups seated and nobody in line to order. We were told we could sit anywhere and someone would be right with us. Cool funky atmosphere and a (faux) fireplace made it pretty comfortable. A young lady came right out with chips/salsa and took out drink order. We looked over the half sheet simple menu (I like that) and were about to make our choices when the young lady came back with beers and tell us what they were out of. Lets keep in mind the name of the place- they were out of chicken and steak!?!? Something to do with the holidays, and not being open. ??? She did say they still had some pork. Pork??? I don't see any pork on the menu. And where are these fish tacos everyone on here is talking about. So apparently all we had for choice was what ever was left of the pork, shrimp, and tofu. Tofu???? In Mexican food????? WTF? By this time we were fully aware this was not our kind of place, but we were pretty hungry and decided to check out the food anyway. Me pork, her shrimp. Food came out in a very timely manner, but remember, there were 3 groups seated, they had all eaten, and another to-go order came in after us. The shrimp tasted like it was 3 weeks old and very rubbery. The pork was simply skillet burnt :( We each had one bite of our own and one bite of each others. NOPE! Can't eat this. I went up to the counter and it turns out the owner was there so I spoke with him. I told him (politely) what I thought of the food and said that we just could not eat it. He was very polite in his response and assured me that the shrimp was not old and that he samples all the food regularly. He said that he would comp the meal and I told him I would be happy to pay for the beers because we did drink those, and sat back down to wait for our bill. They instead brought us out a nice gift certificate and said they comped the beers as well. I was very pleased with this gesture. It was genuine, polite and correct. Too many times I have seen business owners become retaliatory and I commend this man for keeping his cool. Unfortunately we will not be using this gift certificate here as it just is not our kind of place. I wish them much success but with the cultural and personal diversity, the restaurant has no soul, no roots. It is just a hodge-podge of STUFF. read more

I love this place. I'm an organic health-nut foodie and so hardly ever eat out. But when I do I come here. I get the fish tacos, which are addictive--always fresh and delicious--or I just pick up an order of beans or a baked yam--a huge baked organic yam, cooked to perfection. Haven't tried anything else but you can't go wrong with these items. If you care about organic this is the place for you. EVERYTHING is organic. I lived in Sebastopol for many years and unfortunately never ate at Papas & Pollo. I was in town this past weekend and decided to give them a try since I was staying in a hotel nearby. Called in my order, and it was ready by the time I walked down. The burrito was full of real black beans (not canned!), potato, chicken and very tasty sauce. You could taste that everything was homemade and care was put into their food. To sum up - their food was delicious and wonderful...my only criticism would be that the to go bag of chips they gave me was very small, but all in all, I really enjoyed their food. I thought i liked this place after my second burrito from them but by the third burrito i was disappointed. they always get my order wrong when it comes to the meat in my burrito. i asked for a chicken burrito the last time i went there (last week) and they wrote chicken on the tinfoil and it was pork inside. my friend ordered a carnitas burrito and he ended up biting into a huge chunk of fat that took up half the meat. Also a women who works there is very rude, especially over the phone. Overall, the food isnt too bad but for how often they get my order wrong i don't recommend. read more

Ryan the chef brings you a very fresh made to order version of Mexican food that cannot be beaten by any restaurant in Sebastopol. I refuse to eat at places that keep huge mounds of meat on a warmer, to make their lives easier. WATCH HIM COOK! He makes everything on the spot except the beans and rice. Which are kept at a temperature to ensure your SAFETY. If you do not want to wait for amazing surf Mexicana food, then by all means HEAD to your local 20 hour old boiled chicken Mexican restaurant. I am always more than happy to wait for my food at Papas and Pollo. Of course the longest I have had to wait lately even when it was busy was about 15 minutes. 15 minutes for freshly made food, that you can WATCH the cook make? YES PLEASE! Sure their red and green salsas need some work, but they are not over salted and represent the flavor that Papas and Pollo of old had also. The energy, the atmosphere and the employees of Papas and Pollo make for a 5 star experience. If you got something, and you were displeased TRY something else?!!! I have never had anything at Papas that was not 100% worth the extra few bucks I paid. Heck I can barely finish one whole burrito there. Healthy filling ingredients make for a much more full stomach, than cheap greasy food does. Papas and Pollo is a mix of nostalgia and a new beginning of flavors hard to find in a restaurant. The last 3 times I have been here, the service has been akin to a kitchen run by stoned adolescents. On the 3rd, Nick and whatever manager were obviously out. Knowing these guys are SSLLLLOOOOOWW, I called my order in at 8 PM. Informed it would be ready in 20 min, I came to pick it up at 8:30. They had nothing on the grill, but I was assured that they "were almost done with it." After a 10 minute wait, the hostess got my name wrong, "Bill, right?" and then informed me that "well, we made you a quesadilla instead...is that cool?" Nope. I'd like my money back. "Oh, you called it in, so we didn't charge you." "Yup, you did, I signed...15 minutes ago, remember?" She gave me AMPLE attitude, refunded my money, and moved on. 3 people waiting for food, 2 cooks, 1 hostess, 45 minute wait for a simple burrito, wrong order, wrong name, messed up the bill. As a local Sebastopuddlian, I kept giving this place a try with hope that the service would get better. I'm done. :P read more

It was an ok restaurant, probably will never go here again. Very under seasoned food, had to put salt on every bite, and with the little... salad? They give you, they didnt wash the lettuce (even though it comes pre-washed technically) which you can definetly taste, and no dressing what so ever. I also don't like that for a counter service restaurant (McDonald's, KFC, ect.) They prompt you for a tip giving you the quick options of 18, 20, and 25 percent which is, to me, is a bit pushy. read more

Best nachos in Sebastopol (and I've tried them all!) I get them with chicken, which is stupid good, but will get the tofu when sharing with my partner who is veggie. The tofu is so good sometimes I will get both tofu and chicken. Their chips are house made and perfect for nachos, very sturdy, not too greasy. Their chicken yams are also amazing. I get them when I want a healthier alternative to nachos and they are just as satisfying. I also love the breakfast burritos. They do take a surprising amount of time getting your food out, so I usually call ahead (and make them take longer for the people who didn't.. sorry!) but it's worth the wait. So good. read more

Used to love this place back when the Texas long horn had actual mesquite bbq'd flank steak now all you get is this thin sliced fried deli meat which is terrible. And if they don't mess up your order it's probably cold like it was for me the last 4 orders I made. Ordered a pork burrito. As I paid, I was given the choice to tip. It is the biggest thing on the i-pad that you sign for your credit card on, and you have to decide before you can sign. Seems kind of odd to tip when you order and have no idea what the service is like. By the way, the food is not cheap ($10+ burrito), and you serve yourself. I hope that they are paying the help well. Thirty minutes later they called me to the window to tell me that they didn't have any pork and to pick something else. After I did, I went to the salsa bar. There was only one type of salsa and the bin was empty. The chips were really greasy - the oil puddled on them. Ten minutes later I finally got my food. Really Great tasting food for a bunch of gringos in Norcal, and they are trying to use organic and local... huge bonus! I lived in San Diego for over ten years and have traveled all over Mexico many times, so I am well versed in excellent authentic Mexican food and am quite picky. I honestly wasn't expecting much when I came in here because I haven't had much Mexican food in Northern Ca that impressed me much, but I really was impressed. I got the pork tacos and they were just amazing... Perfectly cook smokey pork, juicy and full of well balanced rich flavor, good fresh corn tortilla. It the kind of depth of flavor that many american mexican places shy away from because they are trying to serve something more mainstream. You can tell the cook cared about what he was making. The staff is friendly and competent. The food comes out in a reasonably timely manner. They have a few good beer selections, so that's nice also. However, they could do a lot better with the chips... when I received them before my meal I was bracing for bad food because they were cheap looking store bough type corn tortilla chips... The salsa bar isn't really bad but it isn't impressive either. I really enjoy a good salsa bar with several offerings, but no harm no foul. Keep up the good work guys! read more

The food was excellent but the girl at the counter was horrible. I almost died! Not figuratively, literally! I was chocking on a chip and asked for a glass of water. This dippy young girl told me to get my own. She pointed to over there. I stumbled over to the water and hurriedly drank to clear the chip from my throat before I passed out from lack of oxygen. As I was gasping for air, the girl at the counter ignored me again. When I grabbed my throat in the universal sign for chocking, some of the other patrons came to my assistance and tried to give me a heimlick. I felt sorry fr the young man because I had to show him where to put his hands and how to push upward. After several tries, we got my airway cleared. During this entire incident, no one came out and asked me how I was. When my food was ready, the girl yelled over the counted for me to come pick up my food. The service was absolutely horrible. I have to think twice about going back. I would only go back if I got take out. read more

Best burritos in Sonoma county! The new owner of papas has improved the food tremendously from the previous owner. The tofu burrito is my favorite and anything with chicken is amazing. The food is not authentic Mexican, but the restaurant does not claim this anyway. The ingredients are always fresh and the prices are very reasonable for west county. The new owner has made every effort to keep prices low while improving the quality of everything! I wish they still had the spicy cabbage salad at the salsa bar. I would be willing to pay extra for it if it was offered. Other than that, it is a great restaurant and its not to be missed on your way through Sebastopol! read more

We usually prefer to order over the phone and bring the food home to avoid some of the more negative things people have mentioned in their reviews below (flies and long wait times for food). Was a fan and frequent customer Of Papas and Pollos for years, (I loved me a burt lancaster burrito)I live across the st. quality had declined over the years so I hadn't been for a while. Took my son if Feb 2016 for his bday, his request. MUCHO disappointing!! Salsa had no flavor, I am not exaggerating,fish tacos were dry and flavorless, pork tacos equally disappointing. I thought I was done. Then they hired the 15 son of a work colleague and the first night he was working they left him to close alone, my colleague ended up helping him so they could get out of there at 1 a.m..
