Overall the flavors are very evident in their cakes and go well together, however the cake itself was quite dry. That's also the consensus a lot of ny friends and I have reached. But very unique. Store's very calm and there's a cute donut shop next door as well as a lot of other places to visit along the street and blocks nearby. Service is very kind!
Lovely cake shop with unique rectangular cake slices. They offer fun Asian inspired flavors like miso, passion fruit and more. I came with a group and we got a slice of each flavor in the shop to them all and were not disappointed!! The cakes were moist, flavorful and appealingly decorated. The staff were patient and the seating area had some couches which were able to see my party of six. Would recommend and will be back!
Paper Cake Shop looks beautiful and the cakes are definitely very aesthetic, but honestly this was one of the most disappointing dessert experiences I've had. The cakes were probably the driest cakes I've ever eaten, and the taste was just awful. We paid around $40 for 3 very small pieces, which felt completely unreasonable for the quality. Yes, it's in a nice neighborhood and the presentation is pretty, but it is absolutely not worth it whatsoever.
Ube Mocha Pretty presentation, but not much ube flavor despite the color. More caramel and butterscotch notes than anything, though the chocolate sauce oozing out was a nice touch. Chocolate Miso So much better. The salted miso notes perfectly balanced the sweetness, bringing out the chocolate and caramel without being overpowering. Rich but not heavy, easily the winner between the two. For the cost of the cake, I was expecting more forward flavors and balanced cakes.
The aesthetic of this place is such a vibe. It's giving cute cafe culture you'd find in like Korea or Japan with a Wes Anderson feel from the decor. All their ingredients are locally sourced and highlight the great produce and talent seattle has to offer. All the cakes were so visually appealing, but we settled on the black sesame cake and the gluten-free chocolate cake.
It's such a cute little cake spot in Fremont! My friends and I tried a bunch of cakes here and everything was so yummy. My absolute favorite was the Coco Nana. It was a chocolate cake with misugaru frosting that tasted next level. We also tried the Yoka Miso Chocolate and Keel Bill, which had cool flavors like lychee gel and fruit loops. It had really unique combos you don't find everywhere. Only downside is that the prices are kinda wild. One pastry was $11.55. It is def on the expensive side, but goes without saying that the flavors and vibes unique. Service is great too!
Visually the cakes are so aesthetic and pretty, with unique flavors and combinations. However, 5 out of the 6 flavors we tried were way too sweet in my opinion. I thought the texture of the cake was fine and soft, but a majority of the jams/fillings used, and the buttercream was so overwhelmingly sweet I was done after one bite. For example, trying a smudge of the jam alone in some of the cakes felt like I was eating liquified candy and syrup. The cakes here have pretty bold and strong flavors. While I personally enjoy more subtle, light flavors in cake, I know dessert and cake is a very personal preference, so if you like rich and stronger flavors, this place will probably satisfy your craving! The sizes of the individual slices are also a little smaller than what you could probably get from other bakeries. I would recommend coming to try some of the atypical flavors and combinations they offer but maybe bring a glass of milk with you to temper out the sweetness.
Cafe itself was super cute. This review really only is for the thai tea cake slice since that was the only flavor I tried. It was really crumbly. The cake did not taste like thai tea at all. I could only stomach one to two bites of the cake. I had high hopes for this place, but was let down.
I returned to Paper Cake and I'm disappointed to say this visit did not live up to my expectations, which is so sad because I had such a great experience last time! I was so excited to return that I came in right at opening (early bird gets the cake)...I couldn't help but clock that the cakes in the display were not "whole," which was a little weird considering I was the first person in the shop. I wouldn't be surprised if the cakes were carried over from the day before, because the slice of strawberry rhubarb cake I ordered was very dry. The decorative garnishes were beautiful, but the jam on top of the cake had a weird texture, almost like a film from being left out at room temperature for too long? In this economy, $10 for a slice of cake is not a "no stakes" purchase -- at the very least, I expect my slice of cake to taste fresh. It's as though the business (like so many others these days) was bought out by private equity and gutted of all quality control in favor of cost cutting measures. The cakes are gorgeous and the flavors are so fun, but something needs to be done about quality control here...there are simply too many other options for sweet treats around the city to settle for sub-par. Hope y'all find your way back to the excellence from when you first opened.
I've seen so many videos on Instagram of this place and I had to give it a try! Ambience is great - It's a great place to catch up with friends over coffee and cake. I was pretty surprised by the cost of each slice priced at $8 but each piece is very aesthetically pleasing. However, it definitely looks better than it tastes. I was very disappointed at how dry the cake was & frosting was not it for me. It was stale, hard and fell apart every time I grabbed a bite. I wanted to like this place so bad but I don't think I'll come back :/
I've been wanting to stop by for quite sometime so when we're having a small ladies birthday shindig, I thought this would be perfect! Service was lovely and quick! I love that they always have a gluten free option . As someone with celiac it's not always easy to get to enjoy baked goods. There were two gluten free options, the yoka miso and pistachio pandan. Also in the box was POG, keel bill, stone way summer and Ube jasmine . I think the menu online and what I got in store was slightly off as there was a spiced cake that wasn't listed and didn't have the flavor profiles of the menu, but I didn't check once in the store so that was on me! Cakes were moist, but the flavors were subtle. I was hoping for a stronger pandan flavor but that and the pistachio were very delicate on the palette. Yoka miso was more chocolate forward but the caramel was lovely and enjoyable. As far as pricing goes, are they over priced? Yes. It's a great little cake shop but one that I think is more of a special treat than a place to go if craving something sweet. I do enjoy the seasonality of the available options and could see myself coming back again a time or two when the menu is different.
Paper cake has been on my list to try! At around $8 per slice, it's on the pricey end but good to split amongst friends. The flavors are delicious, creative, and unique. Service was good and friendly and the shop is pretty aesthetic. Highly recommend stopping by with a few friends and trying their slices!
This spot is amazing! I love the aesthetic and such a great place to get things done. They're also dog friendly so I was able to bring my pups ayin for a few hours and have some delicious drinks. Their menu is very unique and refreshing, and not overly sweet (drink wise). I tried their current limited edition item which was a yuzu style ice cream cake! Which surprisingly kept well on my walk home across the street. The also offer little cute candles and party favors if needed for a little birthday delivery. So happy this little spot popped up in the neighborhood! read more

I was driving by and had a few moments to spare, so I thought I would stop by and try them! I've seen them posted online a lot for their beautiful slices and aesthetic space but have never had the chance to go before! I chose their seasonal carrot cake and I'm so happy I did! It was moist and well-balanced. I was going to save some for later but ended up eating it all at once, it was so good! A place I would bring an out-of-town friend to experience or stop by to get a special sweet treat every once in a while! The worker was also very sweet which is always a plus! read more
Ube Mocha is my top choice as the flavors go really well together. The Spring Forward didn't have enough matcha taste and it's a little bit too sweet with the strawberry jam. The snack aisle I thought my kids would love it but they don't like the flavor at all. The peanut butter is too strong and overall the cake is dry and heavy. The highlight was actually the Fez Green Matcha, the mint enhances the drink it is both energizing and soothing. read more

Perfect little cake shop if you want to splurge a little or have a place to sit down and catch up with friends. I had a small Paper Cake phase and purchased togo on several occasions including for a Chinese New Year dinner. The pieces are beautifully decorated, but very small (maybe 2 by 2.5 in ish). There's usually one seasonal flavor. Their togo boxes are horrible so if you really want to preserve your cake maybe bring your own box. ALSO I saved a slice in the fridge overnight and the texture became really weird in the morning. I would just eat it in one sitting. I've tried several flavors and POG was my favorite, it had a very strong punch of passionfruit guava/did not taste artificial. KEEL BILL's raspberry and lychee flavors stood out the most, personally did not like the fruit loop addition (the textures clashed a little). Personally would not come again with such high pricing and small quantity unless I wanted to go above and beyond at a celebration. read more
Aesthetic cakes with cute names. I wish they tasted as good as they looked, but all 4 cake slices were incredibly dry and too sweet for my taste. Flavors were ok. Service was friendly and the lines can get relatively long. Food: 2 stars Aesthetics/presentation/vibes: 4-5 stars Was super excited to try this spot because I have a huge sweet tooth and more options for Asian leaning flavors is always exciting, but this was a big miss for me (and the two friends I came with!). We were the first people there when they opened at 2:00 so had the first pick of everything, and while they each look phenomenal, the taste, across the board, left much to be desired. Matcha is my favorite, and I love salty desserts, but this matcha cake was out of control. It was way too salty, and not in a refreshingly daring way--more like in a way where the recipe should seriously be revisited (obviously imo). The Black Pink cake tasted like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. A basic one. I love black sesame, but sadly it reads as peanut butter when paired with the jam in this cake. Making it even more "sandwichy" is the super dry cake. Literally like mildly stale bread. The cake was this dry texture across all the three flavors we had. Neither of my friends enjoyed any of them, and the first comment all of us had was either "holy crap this is salty" re: the matcha one, or "why is the cake so dry??" I'm currently only attempting to finish them off because I hate to waste food, but it's tough. I would not recommend people to try this cake. Also, at $9 a slice, $10 with tax, these products should be anything but mid. Pretty terrible value. I'd be happy to come back and try it again in the future if I hear news of some recipe revamping. read more

I'm so glad my best friend recommended this place to me! The drinks and cakes were amazing! The cakes are all interesting flavors that you don't typically find elsewhere and there are not too many so it's not overwhelming to make a choice. The drinks were really good, I got the bergamot and brown sugar iced tea and it was not too sweet but had a nice floral flavor. The lady was really nice and she even agreed to take pictures of us! The interior is very cute with pink and blue themes and an area with couches and plants that's really cozy. Definitely coming back to try all the cake flavors!! read more

I saw this place and checked it out. It's a Cake Shop with a little extra added. Just take a look at the menu and you'll see how the cakes are laid out. I looked around and there was a descent amount of people inside hanging out. I was told about the cakes available and that was great because I had idea what I was looking at. I ended up buying the Keel Bill. First bit I had no idea what I was tasting....took another bite with the blackberry Jam and then the taste starting coming together. We ordered one of each flavor and thoroughly enjoyed each slice. The cakes were moist, deliciously sweet (and not excessively so), and had Asian inspired flavors that were unique. The designs are beautiful too. I would definitely bring these cakes to a special occasion for everyone to enjoy. When I picked up the cakes, the service was attentive, welcoming and helpful. Honestly really wanted to like this place and have been seeing stuff on social. API owned small business, right in Fremont, street parking (watch the signs for times), there's construction happening across the way so be aware as a you are walking. The young lady who was helping out an older lady who wanted coffee and pastries didn't seem to know her job nor like her job, she really couldn't share what made these cakes special or different and I jumped in to elaborate on why it's unique and the gal was not helpful, management should really review who they hire and how they train. What could and should have been a customer was instead directed towards another establishment. We got two slices, one of the matcha and the pink one that was bday I believe. Both weren't flavorful nor moist. It was $19 for two slices and I don't believe the quality of the cake warrants that cost personally. read more
Really cute spot and very yummy cakes! We came towards the end of the day on a Friday evening and they still had a lot of flavors left. There were a lot of people hanging around and chatting, and it seemed like a good spot to catch up with friends and unwind from the week, as there was plenty of comfortable seating. We ordered four slices of cake to split between the four of us. The POG was my favorite, as the tangy fruit flavors cut through the sweetness really well. The Keel Bill was pretty good too, but I wish there was more lychee flavor throughout the cake, as pretty much all of the lychee flavor was condensed into one little half slice of lychee fruit on top. The Ube Mocha cake was a bit dry, and while I really liked the Snack Aisle flavor, the pretzels on top of the cake were really stale and a bit unappetizing. Overall, it was a cute shop with unique Asian-inspired flavors. None of the cakes were too sweet (the highest praise for Asian desserts), and I'd be interested in trying some of their other flavors as well! read more
These cakes are asian in flavor, but not asian in style. Cardi P was on the sweeter side, the sweetness overpowered the more subtle asian flavors. The blackpink black sesame had a good flavor. The cakes themselves are more dense and not that moist, the buttercream was also quite dense. As a frequenter of Asian bakeries, I was expecting a lighter moist cake with an equally light and airy cream. Presentation is very nice. The slices were $9-10, a little on pricey side. read more

This is definitely a more unique take on cakes, that was quite interesting. I've seen this place on the internet and it intrigued me seeing their unique flavors, and finding out the shop is open until 9. It's hard to find bakeries in Seattle open later so we were happy to be able to stop by after dinner. It was around 8:30pm during the week so we easily found parking, though it may be tough during busier hours. The inside was small, clean, and welcoming with a couple seats to be able to sit down and enjoy your cakes. We ordered 2 to-go with them being some of the last of our slices left since they were closing in an hour. The cakes were a perfect size for one person, but quite small for the price. They also have a couple rotating seasonal flavors, for ours it was a peanut butter chocolate slice. For the cakes they were definitely interesting, I enjoyed the flavors but after a few bites I kind of had enough of them. The cakes were also definitely better room temperature, putting them in the fridge dried them out. Overall I thought this was a cute shop with interesting cakes that I would recommend trying at least once. read more
So glad I was able to visit this new cake shop! I already can tell it will be a bit. It's very cozy and aesthetic. Love the K-pop vibes. They have unique Asian flavors such as matcha, azuki and sesame. I asked if any cakes were seasonal and for the most part they all are so if you see something you like, hurry and get some! I came here on a Sunday afternoon, and it was pretty quiet. There is no parking lot, so we street packed and walked about 2 blocks. We tried the matcha cake slice and surprised to find that it was plant-based!! It was a little crumbly but really great flavor. They also have gf options. Their drinks were standard but also had interesting twists on matcha and tea lattes. We tried the strawberry rhubarb matcha and it was good when mixed! The staff are so nice and we are definitely coming back for occasion cakes or an excuse to get out of the house. read more

My cousin and I specifically made a trip to Paper Cake Shop to try the Black Lagoon! We got there at exactly 2pm right when they opened and was surprised to see that there was only 3 people in front of us. Lucky us! All the cakes were decorated beautifully which made it tempting to want to try all the flavors but because they were a kinda pricey we only got two flavors. The Black Lagoon was light and not too sweet and surprisingly went well with the pineapple marmalade. The passion fruit on top was good but I'm not sure needed to be part of the cake? The Keel Bill was delicious and the flavor combination is something the most familiar but with a twist. I'm glad that Paper Cake Shop opened in the Fremont area and will definitely plan to stop by again when I'm in the area! read more

Was excited to see this Asian-inspired cake shop open up in the neighborhood! Tried the Cardi P (pistachio yuzu) cake; the flavor combination was unique and not too sweet, though the cake layers were a little crumbly (also possibly because I ordered to-go and left it out for several hours). There isn't much seating, but I saw a couple people studying. I love their concept and creative flavors, but it didn't blow me away either. $9 for a slice of cake is pretty steep, but I could see myself coming back for special occasions and trying some of their other flavors! read more

Really cute cake shop in Wallingford. They have seating inside and offer their cake slices and beverages. I tried the Spring Forward spring seasonal flavor and it was amazing! I'm so grateful they had a vegan option and it was honestly one of the best vegan cakes I've had! I tried their matcha rhubarb drink which was also delicious(not too sweet). I'll be back again to get another slice of the spring flavor before they introduce summer flavors! read more

paper cake shop! we tried the chocolate cake with red miso caramel and the lemon cake with blackberry jam and lychee! both were pretty sapid but i definitely like the lemon better. very moist and good flavor, but nine bucks a slice is a bit too much for me! read more
The absolute cutest little Asian inspired bakery! Everything looked so good that we ended up getting one slice of each flavor! Not too much seating inside but it is decorated so well. Get there early though, we went 2 hours after they opened and they were already running low on some of the cakes. Black pink: I was a little skeptical about this one but the sesame wasn't overpowering at all! The guava gelee was the highlight and added a slight freshness to it! Keel bill: thought the cake itself was a little dry but I loved the lychee touch to it! This one was so cute and the lemon cake with blackberry was a splendid combo!! Ube mocha: I wasn't the biggest fan of this one as the espresso flavor was so strong. But if you like coffee flavor I'm sure you'll love this with the ube flavor! Mango royale: this one was my least favorite. I felt that the graham cracker buttercream was overpowering and you couldn't taste the mango as much! Loved the lime and coconut addition to this one Cardi P: if you've ever had rasmalai (an Indian dessert) this tastes exactly like that!! Tastes like an Indian cake with the pistachio and cardomom. i had a lovely time when i came in for the first time. i bought a slice of the keel bill and the cardi p. the ambience of this store is so lovely with all of the greens and pinks as well as the decor. the worker helping me was so sweet in helping me decide what to try first and she did not disappoint!! the keel bill was a bit too sweet for my liking but was well balanced with tartness and texture. i would definitely come back to try their other flavors as they always rotate what they have :)) read more

Finally a decent cake shop not in south Seattle! The cakes are super pretty and I didn't have any problems with the cake not being moist enough. There was plenty of buttercream and jam filling that kept me satisfied. I will say the cakes are very expensive at $9 a small slice. Because of this, I'd probably wouldn't come here as often as I would like. The drinks are okay, got the matcha strawberry but I don't think I would order it again. read more
