TLDR: beautiful restaurant with good quality sushi. Overall just a star off for value (though it's fair for Miami prices). DRINKS: Lychee martini: this is quickly becoming a classic drink in Miami in any Asian restaurant. It didn't feel too syrupy, which can be a problem Margarita: classic, no complaints here FOOD: HH Salmon nigiri: if you love nigiri or sashimi, get it during happy hour ;) HH tiradito aspasionado: this was a small bite of raw salmon with a sweet passionfruit based sauce. I personally thought this was my least favorite thing all night, but I also don't really have a sweet tooth. Paper Tuna roll: great roll for any tuna lover. I thought having both raw and torched tuna gave it better depth and flavor Acevichado: shrimp katsu with a piece of white fish on top... can't go wrong with that combination. While I didn't find the roll particularly memorable, I would get it again haha (just wouldn't go out of my way for it). I don't recommend this roll to anyone who doesn't like heavier rolls though because of the aioli. Ichiban Sando: this is a speciality just at their South Beach location. While it didn't stick together very well, the flavors were all there! Also the sauce is like savory + butter and it's so interesting. Thai Tea Crème Brulee: get it if you're a Thai tea lover!! Ordered edamame, and it was not fresh. Ordered two rolls. One was a rainbow roll. It had imitation crab which is not what is listed in the menu. Made reservations on a Thursday for happy hour for a group of 14. We lucked out as they were able to accommodate our reservation but under two groups of 7, which was fine with us. Upon arrival we were greeted by a very sweet hostess who was so nice and actually made room for us to all sit together in the outside area. We were so appreciative of that as we were there to celebrate a birthday so we were pleasantly surprised that they could keep our group together. Our visit was made even better by a wonderful server by the name of Joy. She was attentive and kind. We really enjoyed having her as our server. Food was good - everything came out in waves, we ordered in three sections and oddly the second half of our table got their round ll items before we got our full order (seated at the end). We were a larger group and it was HH but there also weren't many tables filled outside at the time. For those visiting - walk if you are able to. If you are not able to, try to look for street parking otherwise you could always park at the nearby ramp (Parking garage at 420 Lincoln Road) for $20 for the first 5 hours and walk to the restaurant which is 2-3 blocks away. We went to Paperfish for Happy Hour on a Friday. The space is nice, large, and comfortable. It's right in the heart of Española Way and as such is a buzzing area, but there are plenty of tables both inside and outside. We were seated right away, and I was pleased to find out that happy hour specials are available at the table. They have outdoor seating which I'd recommend for people-watching, and indoor tables if the weather is iffy or if you want something more intimate. The happy hour specials are great! A lot of stuff to choose from and reasonably priced with each item costing $7.95. I will say the portions are quite small though. We went for dinner and we had to order quite a bit of happy hour items in order to satiate us. The happy hour would probably be better suited as a pre-cursor for dinner, rather than the dinner itself. That being said, the small portions enable you to try a bunch of things! The happy hour specials on drinks include a couple different wines, beers, and cocktails priced at $6.95. We tried the dragon mule and the passionfruit martini, both delicious, sweet, and fruity. For food we tried just about one of everything, including the edamame, the pork and shrimp gyoza (dumplings), tiradito apasionado (highly recommend!), three of the sushi rolls, and the chef's sampler sashimi. We also tried the crispy rice salmon appetizer and the crispy truffle fried rice entree from the regular menu, both delicious and very well seasoned! We ended with an order of mochi for dessert, which came with three mochi balls cut in half, perfect for sharing. One of the flavors was caramel, pretty unique and quite yummy. The server was attentive, and given the amount of food we ordered everything was perfectly timed. Overall, I would recommend and return to Paperfish. It was a very nice experience and the food was tasty. Also bear in mind service charge is already included, as it is many places in South Beach. read more

Checked out Paperfish during their Kampai happy hour and it was so delicious, I'm already trying to plan next visit there. We started off with lychee martinis then had a few of their happy hour food specials. We had the edemame, gyoza, the new york roll and the spicy tuna roll. Everything tasted so fresh and was delicious. Our friend joined and had the wahakan old fashioned which I believe came in a treasure chest and we were all excited about that. Service at the bar was stellar, but everyone from the hostess to the other servers just were so nice. It's also a beautiful spot located in Espanola Way which is nice to walk around afterwards. I didn't know there was a Paperfish on Española way and I'm so glad we came here because I had been dying to try the one in brickell for ages. The place is very spacious and there's two sides of the restaurant. The decor and pretty cherry blossoms created the perfect ambiance. To start we got the rock shrimp and my boyfriend and I both agreed at the same time that it melted in our mouths, so we definitely recommend that to start. As for our mains I ordered the most popular one I saw on Yelp, the acevichado, and I honestly didn't know what it meant on the menu other than it having shrimp and white fish but it was 10/10. My boyfriend got one of the tuna rolls and he finished it in .5 seconds, so I'd assume he enjoyed it lol. I really liked the service and our waitress maria took great care of us. This is NOT a sushi bar. It is a fusion restaurant and the food is not good. The shrimp tempura for instance is a fried dough ball with some sauce on it. The "sushi" came out so fast I'd swear it was pre cut. The fish was thin slices and not great. The service was not good either. It took over 5 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us and the waitress was spending a lot of time chatting on the side once she did start working. The street this is on "Espanola Way" is an absolute tourist trap. Hosts are soliciting tourists while you eat. This place is an absolute avoid. I can't believe it's Yelp rating. This place is located on a cute street, with plenty of lights and outdoor dining areas. It's quite lively and the inside is decorated well. Very aesthetic if you're trying to take pictures. The food was good but definitely priced accordingly for the location and vibes. Service was quick, but could definitely tell they wanted us to order appetizers, drinks, and more on top of our entrees. We were able to walk in for 5 people and sit immediately on a late Saturday night. Paper tuna ($22) - this was tasty, but nothing special. It's kind of like a regular tuna roll with a more smoky flavor from the torched tuna. Each roll is advertised as 10 pieces, but they are very skinny pieces. One of my pieces was just all rice on the inside too lol (second piece from left). Acevichado ($20) - strong tempura shrimp taste, so good if you don't favor raw fish. I had a really great meal at Paperfish the other week when I went to South Beach for a "beach day". I had not been down Espanola Way in awhile. I must say I quite enjoyed the scene and the vibe. There were a bunch of places that I think I might like to try vs the last time I was on the street probably pre covid. I am also ways on the look out for a good sushi restaurant and am often in a sushi mood on a beach day. Paperfish was up to occasion. 5 stars for you Paperfish. We ordered the Paper Tuna, Acevichado Sushi, Spicy Tuna Sushi, Truffle Scallops, and the Wagyu Dumplings and all were prefect. The tuna sushis were especially good. The service was better than average on my visit and the vibe was very chill. There was plenty of outdoor seating and even more seating inside.
