My husband and I came for Friday jazz and sat on the patio. We were planning to just get a charcuterie board and lattes (dry January) but decided to try the pasta. Our server, I think his name was Jon, was the nicest and most welcoming guy. He was so bubbly and warm, we really enjoyed talking to him. The ambiance was lovely (aside from the passing cars) and the jazz made for a great setting. The food, however, was really bland and oily. We got the olio pasta and the risotto, a side of bread and butter, and the butternut squash soup. One obviously expects oil with an olio pasta, but it was drenched in oil and had no other perceivable taste aside from that. Same goes for the risotto, which was bathed in some kind of yolk-like sauce (this is vegan, so I'm unsure what it was) and truly tasted like nothing. We asked for salt and pepper and doused both dishes. The soup was decent, though it had an overwhelming cinnamon taste. The bread was great, however it was served without butter or oil as indicated on the menu and it took at least 15 minutes for that to be brought to us after we requested it. If I had it to do again, I'd order just the charcuterie board. A neighboring table got that and it looked good. The lattes we ordered were tasty, and I enjoyed the range of options available (Hawaiian lavender!). Overall a cute spot and with friendly, albeit slow, service. I made a reservation in the afternoon but they must have printed out their list of reservations for the night earlier that day, since I was not on it. The hostess seemed annoyed by this. I don't know why they are using a printed out copy of their reservation list in 2023... I felt like they forgot about us because we sat there for half an hour before they even asked us for a drink order. Another half hour passed before we got our appetizers and wine. I was so hungry when we got there, so I was not happy about waiting until almost 9 PM for our pasta (we arrived and were seated at 7:30). The peach burrata salad was good, and so was the truffle pasta. I ordered a seafood pasta that was too seafood-y (and I love seafood) but maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. Decided to eat here on our way out from LA as it was highly suggested by a close friend. Definitely recommend sitting outside on the parklet if it is a sunny day. Each dish had the most top quality ingredients, everything tasted extremely fresh. The eggs were soft scrambled and so fluffy. This is not your typical American brunch. Came in with a friend for the DinelA lunch on a Sun @ 11:45 am.-12pm Had to wait a while (at least 10 min) to get seated bc the hostess was no where in sight. Place is short-handed. Went inside to ask, and was told to see the woman up front. When she finally arrived from inside the restaurant, I said, "Finally!" Sat outside at a 2-people table. She gave me the regular menu. I asked for the DineLA menu. We ordered off the DineaLA menu - pear salad, salmon salad (salmon was delicious and beautifully presented) and panna cotta for $35. Server brought the bill before the dessert. We had to remind him that we still had the panna cotta for dessert. I'm a long time local in this neighborhood (23yrs) and this place COULD BE GREAT but they play THE WORST music in the early mornings and throughout day. It's loud, really bad euro dance music that no one wants to hear when they are just waking up and walking down the street to get their first cup of coffee. So many people i know in the neighborhood actively AVOID this place because the music is so bad, loud, and annoying. Attention Owners: If you consider the local clientele, you would understand that soft, pleasant, ambient music would do so much better and people would actually want to hang out there. I strongly encourage you to experiment on Spotify- play anything under the chill/lounge/downtempo vibe - It would do much, much better for your business . Just please keep the volume light and in the background so people can hear themselves talk. This is the vibe that will do well in this neighborhood. Menu offers a limited variety from small to larger portions of beautifully plated foods with a French flair. Street meter parking is limited, just like the restaurant's indoor and outdoor seating, but is non threatening to diners, small dog friendly. Yesterday, on a spontaneous whim, I decided to visit this café with my furbabe Fendi. I chose to sit outside the outdoor shaded patio. The outdoor patio was surrounded by blossoming trees, quite lovely. Ordering and paying from the scanned menu is done online, but you can also go inside the restaurant, order and pay with cash, just as I did...CASH RULES! All staff wore face mask, were nice and helpful. The seating area were cleared and kept clean. Ordered a savory: salmon roe rye Tartine and a sweet: berries, honey and almond butter Tartine. Each were presented picture perfect beautifully stimulated my Taste Buds! After eating the salmon Tartine, I was full and had to box the sweet Tartine TOGO. Really cute, instant classic, Santa Monica spot. Just drips with West L.A. asthetics, but still with quite reasonable prices, for brunch at least. The ambiance was charming, but the food was straight up beautiful, and the taste matched. Everything we ordered was delicious, even the olive laden shakshuka. I both dont usually like olives and am picky about shakshuka, but it passed the test. Had a brunch at this place Thursday Aug 20 2025 arrived around 11am. I'm not a Greek Mediterranean Salad kind of person. However I was converted. Their Mediterranean Omelette and Smoked Salmon Benedict were so good. Unfortunately, we were given a very unenthusiastic reception by both persons running the place (one manning the walk in order counter and the other for sit in customer server). Ah, Papille Gustative; a great example of why the rest of the country makes fun of the LA food scene. TL;DR: thoroughly grammable food, but an otherwise absurd experience. The food at Papille Gustative is good. It's not great, but it is fine enough and beautifully presented. This is why Yelp is replete with enticing photos of their dishes. Generally, it all lacks seasoning. But the ingredients are very fresh. We shared 3 kinds of their Scandinavian rye breads topped with smoked salmon, anchovies, and uni. All absolutely palatable, none memorable. The dirty potatoes lacked flavor but were cooked extremely well, achieving a silky texture. My GF waffle was nice; it tasted and felt gluten free, but it was a serviceable vehicle for a mountain of fresh "market" fruits (which should not be mistaken for seasonal, as blueberries and raspberries are hardly winter fruits, but anyway this is LA, so what does seasonal even mean). The worst order was probably my friend's, consisting of a cold vegan quinoa bowl that she described as "too much farm, not enough table," and barely ate half. All of this was mostly unremarkable and would barely have merited a short review, but what was really worth sharing was our hilarious service experience. At Papille Gustative, the constantly circling waiters are not allowed to take orders. They will bring you a paper menu, and then you can order at the counter inside, or you can scan a QR code and order through their website. The online ordering menu and the paper menu are not identical (and nor are either the same as the menu they have posted on their website); each has items the other does not. So, if you chose something from the paper menu, you might go to order it online only to discover it's not there. You might think that the online ordering platform would trump everything else; 'get with technology, you elder millennial!' you might say. But what if, dear Yelper, you wanted to order something LA-basic like a chai latte, only to find such thing unlisted on the online ordering platform? What if you needed this hit of caffeine before you were awake enough to navigate the disorganized online ordering menu? What if you mistakenly thought, it's only one drink, surely the waiter can take that order? Well, you'd be told by said waiter that you have to order it inside, only to walk 10 steps inside and meet that very same waiter on the other side of the counter, now ready to take your same order. As if directly out of a comedy of errors. It's all just too complex by half. And lest you think me unreasonably critical, this around-and-around meant that my friends and I who were reuniting after 2 years apart had to spend the first half hour of our hang awkwardly trying to catch up while puzzling over not only what but how to order. In sum, if you're looking for a spot to go alone and get food that you can post to IG to make all your friends jealous of your pretty life regardless of the cost to your sanity, run to Papille Gustative. I'm amending an earlier review. When a friend and I went a couple of weeks ago, the restaurant was very crowded and we experienced a service meltdown. We ultimately left the restaurant after waiting for our food for a long time, and I wrote a pretty scathing Yelp review. I also found the owner's email address and told him what my experience was. To my utter surprise, he took my experience to heart and had his staff read it AND made corrections and convinced me to come back and give the restaurant another try, My friend and I did and I can unreservedly say that the food is excellent. As my friend commented -- everyone says they have "farm-to-table" food but this place really does it. We both had a popular dish. . the smoked salmon Benedict and it was great. We also had an amazing herbal tea and dessert. The service was impeccable. I'm hopeful that the restaurant's service problems are resolved going forward. If the owner's responsiveness is any clue, I'm betting it will. And you won't be disappointed with the food. read more

We had a salad, avocado toast and almond butter toast.... basically three items that were not main dishes (more starters) and our bill was $72 plus tip so yah $90 for three starters. That being said, though expensive, it was worth it, the food was really good. The Avocado toast was delicious! I'm happy to pay a lot for great food at this was incredible. Here's where my problem lies: We're all used to the menu being the square you scan with your phone. But they take it a bit farther .... they want you to CREATE AN ACCOUNT (username, password, personal info, etc) just to place your order. I don't think so. I'm not going out to dinner so I can A. Work more. And B., Give you an updated mailing list to spam me. Just let me order for God's sake. Update: I recommended some friends to check out Papille Gustative, as they were from out-of-town, and I love this place. I made a reservation on Open Table for the same evening. We got the reservation, showed up 2 hours later for dinner, and the whole place is closed. Looks like they are no longer open for dinner. It's a shame, because it's really a great place. I only wish that someone contacted Open Table about the restricted hour so we weren't left standing in the rain last night. read more

I made a group reservation more than a week advance for a group of 12. They confirmed and said they would call me 24 hrs before the reservation date. They never did and when I called 24 hrs before the reservation date, they said there is a surcharge of $20/person and that the originally reserved patio space wasn't available. What a way to ruin my birthday reservation last minute. We spontaneously stopped by for an early Saturday night dinner, having only had brunch here in the past. Two of the items on the menu grabbed our attention and we were totally impressed. The Little Gem Caesar Salad was crisp and fresh (maybe a bit too much dressing... next time I'd ask for dressing on the side). The Squid ink pasta with a generous portion of Uni, Salmon and Salmon Roe was creamy and so satisfying. The Baramundi was perfectly prepared and served with an ample portion of farm fresh carrots, asparagus, heaps of cherry tomatoes with explosive flavor and addictive potatoes (clearly I didnt read the menu that well, since I was surprised at the veggies that were served with the fish). The description of the red and white Czech wines, by the glass, piqued our interest, but next time, we will try something else.... and yes, Papille will now be on our list of favorite local dinner spots. The entire staff is super friendly. I hope the time comes, that they are so successful that reservations are required to get a table. I see some negative reviews, but that wasn't my experience.
