I had lunch at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen on I-35 in Austin today, and it was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. What's surprising is that Pappadeaux has always been one of my go-to restaurants. Today, however, both the food and the service were disappointing. I ordered the salad and the shrimp gumbo and shrimp po'boy combination. The salad was the only thing on the plate that was edible. The gumbo was completely flavorless. It tasted like watered-down broth instead of a rich, well-made roux. The "Holy Trinity" of Cajun cooking--celery, onions, and bell peppers--was nowhere to be found. Pappadeaux's gumbo has always been on the lighter side, but at least it used to taste good. Today, I couldn't taste any okra, could barely find any rice, and even the shrimp lacked flavor. The shrimp po'boy wasn't any better. It was dry, bland, and devoid of seasoning. If there was mayonnaise or any other dressing on it, I couldn't taste it.

I didn't dissect the fried shrimp, but they were so flavorless they could have passed for imitation seafood. I've eaten a lot of Cajun food in my life, and this was some of the blandest food I've ever been served. The service was...

just as frustrating. I asked for French bread, which has traditionally been complimentary. Instead, they brought garlic bread. When I pointed it out, the waiter told me the garlic bread was "much better." I disagreed and asked for French bread and butter. It never arrived, but they certainly remembered to put it on the bill. Years ago, one of their chefs introduced me to chopped garlic on their house salad with the creamy vinaigrette. So I asked for a side of chopped garlic. They brought fried garlic instead. I ate only a few spoonfuls of gumbo and a couple of bites of the po'boy before asking for the check. Most restaurateurs would recognize that as a sign something is seriously wrong. Apparently, not here. Since my waiter had disappeared--completely MIA--I flagged down a manager to remove the charge for the garlic bread I never ordered. He promptly corrected the bill and brought it back. Then he asked if I wanted a to-go box. "No," I replied. "The food was horrible." His response was, "I wish you had said something sooner. I would have taken care of it." I suppose it was too late by then because they had already run my credit card. In the end, I donated $45 to the Pappas family. I won't be returning voluntarily, nor will I recommend Pappadeaux to visitors looking for authentic Cajun food. Unfortunately, my wife is a Texan and still enjoys the place, so I may find myself there again for birthdays or Mother's Day. But at their prices, I refuse to spend my money on food that tastes like a rice cake with seafood added as an afterthought. Austin, consider yourself warned. In my opinion, Pappadeaux hasn't been the same since COVID. Eat there at your own risk.

Went here last weekend while in Austin for my niece's birthday. The service was good and the food was typical Pappadeaux's tasty. We had the fried alligator appetizer. I ordered the large stuffed shrimp plate. Why did I do that? The shrimp were huge! I only ended up eating 2 of the 4 that come with the large plate. A small plate, which comes with 2 would've been perfect. I also didn't end up eating it later bc I left my food leftovers on the table. Doh! Don't you just hate when that happens? Probably wouldn't have eaten it anyway though , due to a lack of time. Anyway, my niece ordered a fried catfish kid's plate with a side of fruit (strawberries and blue) and seemed to enjoy it.

My brother ordered the seafood platter which looked pretty good.

Still a solid location to visit. Consistent in food and the ambience is nice. Good 90's R&B playing this evening so got to jam along. Arrived close to 7pm and got sat right away. The hostess were very friendly and she asked me how my day was going on the way to the table. Diane was my server and she was ok, didn't interact much. She dropped the menu and picked up the ticket without a greeting, when she did return asked for a drink. Asked if I wanted bread on the way to drop food at another table and dropped the tea shortly after. When she did return to ask about an appetizer, I already knew what I wanted to order. Order came out pretty quick and was exactly as remembered. Delicious! This time I dipped the baked potato into the sauce on the plate. Out of this world!

FIRST OF ALL MANAGEMENT Was not very nice. My daughter and a few of her colleagues made a very big accomplishment. We walked in an asked for a table that would seat at least 11. The host at the desk was attempting to assist and the manager said that table is not available the hostess said yes they canceled. She preceded to go back and forth with her staff and finally walked off. We were then seated and accommodated according to our request. From then on it was smooth sailing. Our server was very pleasant and on top of things even though someone introduced her as new she did very well. We were very pleased. Everyone said their food was delicious. I ordered shrimp with dirty rice. The rice was a little cold but I didn't complain to the server she was doing her best. Lightning was ok floors were clean.

I've been to Pappadeaux several times now and literally have never left disappointed. Their food is amazingggg and so incredibly tasty. Their service also always on point. Pro tip- make a reservation if going on a weekend because it'll save you significant amount of waiting time! Our usuals: 1. Popped in for dinner Saturday night, and they were packed. We were seated quickly even though we didn't have a reservation. Our server was very friendly. Things moved kind of slow with getting drinks and food, but our server was very apologetic and offered us a free dessert. We definitely understood, as they got slammed all at one time. The bread was a bit over cooked and dry, but we enjoyed the rest of the food. The calamari and octopus was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. The soft shell crab was excellent! The roasted oyster were very flavorful, but a bit greasy and salty for my taste. I could only eat two of the six. I had a couple of martinis, but I don't recommend them. They were very watered down and had very little vodka. They also ran out of glasses. So they served my last one in a champagne flute. It was a decent dining experience but not great.

Been to several Pappadeaux's now and this one is consistent. Our server was superb, she really went out of her way to make sure we enjoyed our meal (eg. Offering to let me switch meals if I didn't like what I ordered). My party of 5 came around 6pm on a Monday and didn't need a reservation. I had the Mississippi Catfish Opelousas. It was very tasty and a good portion. A little spicy, but no complaints from me. Everyone else also enjoyed their meal. The salmon in particular looked really good, as well as the bacon wrapped shrimp. Entrees are around $30-40

I came to Pappadeaux to celebrate myself for my birthday, and it was exactly the energy I needed. I started with the Crab & Spinach Dip with parmesan crostini. Creamy, seasoned, not shy on flavor. Perfect start. Then came the star: the Wild-Caught Red Snapper with jumbo lump crab, lemon butter, toasted almonds, and that sautéed spinach. The spinach was so good I had to pause mid-bite and stare at the plate. The fish was grilled just right, tender and flaky. The crab was delicious too, though I would have appreciated a little more considering the price. Still, the dish was well-executed and memorable. The Dirty Rice was a whole experience on its own -- perfectly seasoned, deep flavor, and absolutely worth mentioning by name. The woman sitting next to me at the bar ordered the Oven-Baked Crab Cake. I snagged a taste (with permission, I promise!). Perfect texture, perfect seasoning, and that lemon caper butter was the right kind of bright. Great vibes, clean environment, attentive staff. And the Old Fashioned they made me? Not too sweet, not too strong, just smooth and grown. And they sent me home with a complimentary Key Lime dessert to wrap up my birthday dinner. It was legit good -- bright, creamy, not too sweet. And yes, the fact that it was free was just the cherry on top, not the reason it slapped. Treat yourself here. I'll definitely be back.

Been here a million times, love the food.... I always go for the gumbo that is amazing and the fish Ponchatrain, best stuff in the menu. Deliciously amazing, but........ Service is hit or miss, this time was a miss. I got my fish and was half sauced, that delicious buttery sauce was badly poured ONLY on half the fish, surely I asked the server for more sauce and he cam back with a BS story that They'd charge me for an extra order of that sauce!!!!! Yes exactly that! They served the $40+ plate with half the dressing and then decoded to charge me extra for the rest! WoW...

Pappadeaux has changed and not necessarily for the better! The food is still good as is but the pricing, service and offerings are different nowadays! They offer basically nothing on the happy hour menu which explains why it is empty! The salmon Alexander is delicious however and serving size is good but come on now corporate !! The atmosphere is nice with music that isn't too loud !

Pappadeaux was directly across the street from our hotel, so we stopped here for lunch. I wish we had this restaurant here in Northern CA. This place was so good, I went twice on my trip. The first time, I had the Seafood Cobb Salad. Probably the best Cobb salad that I have ever had. The shrimp were fresh and big. Full avocado and perfectly cooked bacon. When I comeback to Austin, I am getting this again. Second time around I had the Shrimp Po boy sandwich. This was massive. I could only finish one side. It tasted great and French fries were perfectly cooked. Customer service went above and behind. I got halfway done with my Coke Zero and the waiter came through with a refill in a new glass cup. A+ service from this crew. The restaurant is real nice and clean. I saw they had a nice bar area with some TV's to catch a game at. Next time I will definitely do that. I can't wait to comeback to Pappadeaux.

We were actually about to attend a YELP Elite event in Austin and I had a wardrobe malfunction with my old resurrected cowboy boots. This after creeping around searching for parking for about 20 mins. So I had to bail, didn't even go inside. Aaagh! As we were already dressed up for the occasion, I decided not to let the night go to waste. Went and grabbed a pair of "Hey Dudes" from Marshall's and drove to Pappadeaux Seafood. Tried to call, but no answer. Dreading a long wait, but when we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised and were seated within 5 mins. Our server "Avery L." was excellent. He had quite a few tables in his section, yet he was "On top of it". He provided some amazing dinner choices. He knows his stuff. As it was days away from our 20th anniversary, we decided to not look at prices, but enjoy the experience. Wife ordered " Seafood Tagliatelle", pasta over an assortment of seafood. She loved it. Was surprised when she figured out she was eating octopus, but the flavor was so good, she didn't mind. I ordered the "Salmon Alexander", Grilled Salmon, crispy skin down, with shrimp, langoustines, and scallops, in a brown butter sauce. The combination was a delicious blend of seafood and dirty rice. All and all we had a great time, until we asked about dessert. If I recall they had "Sweet Potato Pecan Pie", "Vanilla Bean New York cheesecake", an Amazing Bread Pudding, Key Lime pie and one more, (sorry). We were stuck between the Sweet potato pie and the Bread pudding. I conceited and we enjoyed the Bread Pudding. This was not your everyday pudding, oh no! Rum soaked raisins, baked in a texture similar to "Tres Leches", and topped with Hagen-Daz vanilla ice cream. OMG, I was stuffed. The was the best meal I've enjoyed here in a while. When in Texas, I always stop at Papadeauxs. The gator bites are so flavorful you'll be begging for the recipe. I love their take on garlic bread. This was my first time trying their po boy and gumbo.. i was not that impressed . Definitely get the gator bites!

On our one week visit to Austin, we dined at Pappadeaux twice. For appetizer the Oyster Baton Rouge was great. The Blackened Catfish served with Shrimp Etouffee Pistolette and dirty rice was tasty as well as the fried Seafood Platter. It seems like just about everything is yummy. Wish they had one here in Orange County. read more

The hostess set my bad mood when she made a face when I stated I did not want to sit at the bar even though I was by myself. Had the pan grilled softshell crabs. They were ok. A little small but good. My side of cheese grits were not that great. Seemed like the were old. Have eaten at these in several cities. This was not one of the better ones,typical chain issues. read more

We visit this place yesterday. After being greeted by a host and seated we looked over the menus. We watched tables around us getting service even though it was not crowded no one ever came to take our order 4 different members of the wait staff walked by even a manager came to a table one over from us. We sat there for 20 minutes trying to make eye contact no one ever came to assist. I would recomend elsewhere for you seafood. When we left they didnt care when mention to the host he just said sorry. read more

The baked Icelandic cod is a must try at this decadent Cajun inspired restaurant. The food out weighs any of the hassle of a strange waitress or a line. Very well seasoned and definitely a place if you want something spicy! Great for family eating! read more

Husband brought me here for lunch on my birthday. First-timers and he hates seafood, but I love it. Restaurant was clean intimate,fun. Waitress was inviting, patient and helpful with customizing my order. Lobster & shrimp salad was fresh, citrus dressing was delightful, his mashed potatoes were creamy. Gave me a free dessert of my choosing! And their bread & butter was the bread & butter...can't wait to come again, maybe 4 dinner next time read more

Pappadeaux has always been 5 stars until tonight. Service was terrible. Our order was messed up. I had to ask the manager for a tea refill. On to the food that it took forever to get. Shrimp and grits was not good. Spinach on the plate was cold. Shrimp was tough. Crawfish ettoufe was too spicy. Did not taste like it used to. Will probably not go back for a long time. read more

Always a sure thing here. Customer service is always on point. Food is always on point. From the appetizers to the desserts you can't go wrong with any of the selections here. I can't wait till the new location opens up cause that should cut down on the wait time that can be an issue sometimes like on special occasions. read more

Poor poor service!!!! I created a yelp account just for this review.... Angel our server didn't get our drinks for 20 minutes and we got water... it took 30 more minutes for bread and butter! He brought us our food and never came back until food was done, well the food that was cooked fully the chicken my husband ordered wasn't fully cooked and we never got our refills!!! We waited 15 minutes for our tickets that were wrong... I have had good service before but it seems like the standard of great customer service has been lowered read more

Phenomenal experience. I went with a group of four of us. Our friends came here for the first time and they we were very impressed with the quality of food and level of personal attention we were given. We had absolutely delicious everything and very attentive staff that go above and beyond. Our waiter was always a step ahead of us and two managers even came by to ensure everything was perfect! We definitely make sure to take our family and friends that visit from out of town here and this place does not disappoint! Great job to the team here. read more

Always good consistent food. Always crowded. Service is usually good. The front outside area is very cute but there is always some sewerish smell that usually even makes the front inside wait area smell. I don't know what it is but it should probably be looked in to, I have heard other guests comment on the smell every time i have ever been to this location so I know its not just me. read more

One of our go-to places for special occasions. It is a chain, the food is a bit on the pricey side and it is often quite noisy, but if you are a seafood lover you will not be disappointed. Some of our favorites: CATFISH OPELOUSAS, JUMBO SHRIMP BROCHETTE, PASTA MARDI GRAS. We've never been disappointed with the food or the service. read more

The experience I had out on a double date with my husband and some friends of ours was horrible. My husband and I are still reeling over the bill! 138 bucks for less than satisfying food. Two appetizers that were mediocre, 32 and 34 dollar plates of over cooked lobster, bland veggies and fried fish that tasted like it had just jumped out of the water. Our waitress was very nice but must've been spread thin because I asked for a refill of a watermelon lemonade and waited 20 minutes, flagged her down and just settled on a glass of water in which I waited another 10 minutes for. My husband and his friend asked for another of their drinks of choice and waited as well. I was two seconds from voicing my concerns and attempting to have the bill amount decreased until we just all felt overwhelmed and were just ready to go. It was such an unenjoyable dinner to say the least. We're usually big tippers but the waitress got only 10 bucks from us because she was so polite but the service wasn't good at all. Waited all day to eat as I was so excited, pregnant and ready to feast just to drive an hour to be left completely disappointed! read more

Sept 20,2016, My husband and I arrived early, waiting on our Aunt & Uncle. Our Server, Michael K. is AWESOME! He has a great way with customers, enjoyed talking to him about Ireland and his Irish accent was wonderful to hear, I'm 1/2 Irish - Erin Go Bragh! Our family arrived and we all had a wonderful time. The bread is warm and melts the butter easily. The food was delicious, we both ordered the Mixed Seafood Grill. All the employees were friendly and nice. The restrooms were clean and smelled clean. We will be back again soon and we'll ask for Michael K. He takes care of his tables and customers, in a professional and friendly way. Larry and Rose read more

If there were more stars to give I'd do so!!! This was our 1st time here and we were celebrating our sons 26th birthday so a huge THANKS to our server, Dylan, who was by far the BEST!! From the moment we arrived on this busy Saturday night, (we called ahead and only had to wait 10 min.) we were given top notch service! Dylan took the time to inform us of the menu items and just went above and beyond to make sure what we ordered was to our satisfaction...success!! The prices may seem a bit high but the food is beyond amazing and they pile it high...no one was able to finish but the dessert tray looked so good we couldn't resist!!! I'm still so full but am holding myself back from eating the leftovers !! I can't wait till our next visit!!! read more

This is my favorite lunch spot. There is a baked parmesian, garlic oyster, a blackened shrimp, oyster, crawfish fondue, and a salmon Alexander that are all amazing. The best way to end this lunch, or any dinner is to have all of the above: the cheesecake, their bread pudding, and my favorite creme brulee ever. If you love food, I say go. read more

Oysters-if you like em they're great here. Pass on the gulf ones-others have so much better flavor. Lobster bisque and 2 crab cakes. Wife and I split all-where stuffed. Loved it. If there's better I haven't found them in Austin. read more

Papadeaux's Austin has yet to disappoint! We have dined with them 3 times within the past month and a half and the food and service has been spot on each time! On our most recent visit I forget my to go box and ran back in to grab it off the table and the wait staff had already cleaned the table off.....I guess the mgr saw me sort of looking around and came over and asked if there was something she could help me with, I told her no that I had forgotten my to go box on the table and came back to get it but I was to late. The food is fantastic! They have different seasonal dishes so ask the waiter what is good. I would NOT suggest going to the bar here, the staff is extremely slow!!!!! and not real personable....it has been that way every time we have been there...even on weeknights. read more

Went there last night and had the scallops. They were superb. We ordered a dozen oysters on the half shell. They were also the bee's knees. Our waitress was really good. My fiance had the soft shelled crab. This chain has it together. Nothing but good things to say about this place. Don't sit by the windows if it is cold outside or you will freeze and shatter like glass if touched. Give everyone here a raise Big Poppa! $! $! $! read more

This is the closest to great Cajun food next to New Orleans. The Crawfish Etoufee is my favorite and wash it down with a tall glass of Shiner Bock. Great location off I-15 and a must go to destination when I'm in town for the F1 grand prix race. Please open one in Los Angeles! read more

I usually love Pappadeaux, but the service was so, so bad today. Our entrees came out BEFORE the bread and drinks. The service was so slow. Our waitress dropped off the drinks after the food (which seemed like they had been sitting around somewhere for a long time because the ice was melty) but forgot straws. The food came, but we had no silverware. We usually love the bread, but it's a lot less inspiring when it's delivered after your actual meal. It took like 20 minutes to get a refill of diet coke, and my sister never got her water refilled. Just very bizarre overall. Definitely not an enjoyable experience. I think the waitress was definitely new, but she obviously didn't have it together and should have been getting help (maybe doubling up with another waiter) at that point. Established in 1976.

H.D. Pappas left Greece in 1897 and traveled to America to pursue his dreams. He brought with him a passion for quality and service that became the benchmark of his success as he opened restaurants throughout Tennessee, Arkansas and Texas. It was this same dedication to quality & service that H.D. passed down to his sons and grandsons. His sons, Pete and Jim, chose a different path than their father and entered the restaurant equipment and supply business. They opened Pappas Refrigeration in 1945. Jim never dreamed that his sons would come full-circle by opening their first restaurant in 1976.

Today, the privately-owned Pappas family of restaurants is based in Houston, Texas and is operated by Jim's sons, Harris and Chris. Another great experience from Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen. We had a short wait of about 10 minutes and was seated in the back of the restaurant it was a little crowded but we got a great table and a great sever. Some reviews complain that this place is expensive I don't agree if you consider the value and the portion size it's a bargain for great seafood. I will get to the food now. Louisiana Seafood Gumbo - This is real gumbo a lighter peanut butter color rue verses the very dark rue served in other locations around Houston not overly thick and it's loaded with fresh shrimp, oysters and crab and veggies over hot steaming rice. Broiled Stuffed Jumbo Shrimp - These extra large fresh Gulf Shrimp were stuffed full of a great seafood stuffing full of fresh crab seasoned perfectly and then broiled to perfection we shared these with a side of fresh grilled asparagus yummy this could be your meal and you would be happy happy happy. Blue Point Oysters - Served on the half shell ice cold clean clean clean they were very nice size blue points I know a lot of places serve the smaller ones these very absolutely perfection. Mississippi Catfish Opelousas - OMG I ordered this instead of my normal crawfish platter with étouffée and fried crawfish I'm so glad I decided to try something different. A very large catfish fillet blackened to perfection covered in a lemon butter étouffée type sauce full of lump crab meat, oysters and topped with grilled blackened shrimp with a large side of dirty rice. This was a great choice and may be my new favorite you have to try it. Fresh Berries with Fresh Creme - This was the perfect end to a great dinner fresh blue berries, blackberries and raspberries served in a chilled fountain glass with fresh whipped creme on the side it is heavenly. I'm staying in a Hotel next to this place. This is not a restaurant......it should be closed!!! I order a md. shrimp and chicken plate for dinner. After waiting for 29 minutes they bring everything in a small salad plate. I told the waitress if this was normal and she said that's how it comes. Thank God I had a bread small plate in which I transferred the 3 pieces of chicken and I could eat the 4 little shrimps that were under the chicken....One of the managers comes to the table and asks me if there was a problem.... I tell her look at my plate and food do you see anything wrong? She says well you order a small plate....I go yes , I ordered a md. portion of food not my food on a small plate....by this time I had already eaten my 4 baby shrimps.... she says well I can bring you a larger plate if that's what you want..... THIS BITCH SHOULD BE BACK SERVING WATER AND CHIPS WITH SALSA......Then I tell her just please bring me my check I lost my appetite and want to get out of this place and never come back..... As I walked into Pappadeaux's with my family, the ambient and family-styled theme caught my eye. We were attracted to try Pappadeaux's because of it being a somewhat local restaurant, based in Houston. Even though it can be found in seven other states, it still has a sense of localness to it because of the westernized décor and theme throughout the entire restaurant. There were booths and tables with cushioned seats that filled the restaurant without a sense of over crowdedness. First impressions are quite important to my family and the restaurant was being cleaned as we were being seated, so we knew we were in for a treat. The lights were dimmed, but only to the extent to where we could still read our menus. Our waiter greeted us with a smile and that's when the experience started. We ordered one margarita, two sweet teas, and waters for everyone at the table. The drinks arrived in a matter of a couple of minutes after ordering them. After our food was ordered, it came out at a reasonable time and was prepared quite neatly. The portion size was quite large so the price range for meals on the menu, about $10-$40, was to be expected. The food was quite delicious based off of the fact that every person in my family got something different and all of their meals were tasty in their opinion. Also, the bathrooms were clean and close to spotless and thankfully didn't smell like a usual public restroom. Our total price of the bill was around $80 with two appetizers, drinks (one alcoholic), and three full entrees. Overall, the menu and restaurant may seem expensive, but it is worth it once you try the food and experience the Pappadeaux way. read more

This WAS my favorite restaurant forever (years) BUT...!! Hey unfortunately I have some bad news if you THINK you are going to be happy and enjoy your "favorite" restaurant like I thought I would tonight... This needs to be broadcast EVERYWHERE because to my dismay I realized tonight that this company doesn't really care about you, only making sure they get their money for their first "2 drinks" THEN THEY SEND A MESSENGER TO YOUR TABLE/ SEAT @ BAR to CUT YOU OFF!!! I thought the first time 3 months ago was a fluke but tonight confirms it..,that IT IS THEIR "UNSPOKEN COMPANY POLICY" to CUT YOU OFF AFTER 2 LG. Drinks, doesn't matter if you have a driver!!!!!!!!!! Hey at least TRUDY'S is upfront with their policies!!!! This place waits until you are finally happy to be enjoying the food or your company and then they send some shitty minion to your area to announce to EVERYONE within a 10 ft. Radius that " I'm Sorry, we just don't feel comfortable serving you".,. Now, since I KNOW I wasn't intoxicated I had to ask if that was the "unspoken" Company policy or if I said/did Anything that made me deserve my cut-off status and I was assured that "it wasn't me". IN OTHER WORDS, IT IS THE COMPANY POLICY!!!!!!!! Not only did that RUIN my evening,, after I worked 30 hrs this weekend (fri sat and sun )... It pissed off my 2 neighboring folks at the bar. Taken here for my birthday. It was packed with people for it being monday night, if you're an anxious eater like me, be aware it's very loud, dark and kinda overwhelming in there. We didnt wait long for our table, roughly 10 mins or less. Our server was good and always checked in with us for refills etc. Plates are very pricey! But they do give you a good amount so I suppose it off sets a bit. Quality of food was tasty however, was disappointed that the plate I ordered, rainbow trout with crab and shrimp, looked like it had no shrimp on it. It was "stuffed" trout so the veggies and I presume shrimp was sandwhiched between the fillets, I kept finding greens and squash but no shrimp. I was too anxious there to mention it as I was trying to keep my focus on our dining but when I got home and checked my leftovers there was indeed ZERO shrimp. Turns out when my boyfriend and his friend went months before they also left the crab off his friend's order too. Not sure if it has to do with how busy they get but it's disappointing for sure. Tl;dr, I paid $27 for a plate of fish and got jipped 1/3 of my order. read more

My husband and I went there with his uncle and aunt. Atmosphere of this restaurant is beautiful and service was pretty good. We ordered 'Pappadeaux Seafood Platter', 'Louisiana Seafood Gumbo' and '2 1/2 lbs Crawfish Boil' 'Pappadeaux Platter' was OK. It comes with lots of french fries. Unfortunately the waiter brought us Shrimp Gumbo instead of Seafood Gumbo(supposed to come with shrimp, oyster and other seafood). Crawfish Boil was OK, too.(It didn't feel like fresh since I had hard time to take them out of their shells) I love crawfish so we eat them at home from time to time so I expected a lot since it was my first eat-out-crawfish and it wasn't bad. Their bread before meal was excellent though. We had 10 cups of draft beer with the whole dish and the bill came out around $130. For the price I don't think I would go back. I would rather buy 3 lbs of fresh, live crawfish at Fiesta for around $10 and eat at home for almost same flavor. read more

Use to be our favorite place for birthdays and anniversaries. Second time recently where the food is great but the service at best is subpar. Two people eating, no alcoholic beverages-$100 tab. I expect service with a smile. I expect that you will explain the new items on your menu to us. I expect some resemblance of a personality. Up sell! Heard of it? Waited almost 15 minutes for a drink refill, glasses sat completely empty for over 15 minutes and it wasn't even busy. Pathetic. The standard here has certainly gone in the toilet. Your tip is not guaranteed ( I always tip, usually three times what is supposed to be given). You earned your 5%. I hope the large table drinking it up( the one you reserved your personality for) remembers to tip you. Such a disappointment. This use to be a favorite. read more

They say you shouldn't eat seafood in areas that aren't near large bodies of water. This is definitely true for central texas. When fish, prawns, and lobsters have to get trucked for hours to get to a restaurant, they lose some of that freshness and even get a little nasty. I got the Tilapia which was a big mistake. Of course fish is going to taste "fishy", but there is also a point at which the smell and taste are so pungent it means they've started to go a little bad. I don't think there's any safety concern here, that's not what I'm saying. But I do mean that it tasted pretty bad and scared me away from Texas seafood for good. I'm just not a "send food back to the kitchen" kind of guy, but even I was a little taken aback. read more

I have been eating at this Pappadeaux's location for the last five years with my family. The food has continued to be amazing every single time. I just have to say the tall blonde manager woman (Chante?) is the only reason I'm giving this place only 1 star. Every single time we come, she is unnecessarily rude and has an attitude with my family. I've noticed her doing it with so many of the guests. When we come and see that she is the one greeting us, we immediately have a bad taste in our mouth. How is she still working there??? We are now taking our business to the other Pappadeaux's because it is really discouraging to treat guests like that. read more

Pretty sad when a rude hostess ruins the experience of a fun restaurant. Left my card at the bar, and called back on Monday, May 15th at 3:27PM, hostess went to look for my card, left me on hold, then a gentleman picked up told me he would check at the bar and left me on hold, first hostess came back and told me the card is not in the restaurant card. I asked if she had talked to the gentleman (I gave his name), who was checking at the bar, and she repeated they did not have the card. Fantastic restaurant. Brilliant oysters. We all enjoyed the oysters, presented in different ways. A stand out dish was the Tuna sashimi. My companion ordered this again when he returned to Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen two night later with other business guests. Raved about it so the whole table ordered it. I enjoyed the salmon - fantastic presentation. Cooked perfectly. The wines we chose were great. Expertly recommended and matched by our waiter. I was really looking forward to my visit, but unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The service was inattentive--my drink was never refilled, and the waitress seemed dismissive and uninterested throughout. The halibut I ordered tasted old and had a mushy texture, which made it hard to enjoy. Even the mashed potatoes were overly greasy and lacked flavor. Took my best friend here a few weeks back after a movie premier. The service was excellent and our table by the bar was awesome, as it was a late night and we bantered with the bartenders and late night staff. We shared a bottle of wine, started with the fried crawfish appetizer and house salad, and ordered the featured Sea Bass entree. Was amazing as usual. We had an excellent lunch experience here. The shrimp and grits were a definite winner, and the alligator appetizer was fantastic. The catfish was just as good as I had hoped. Fresh bread, excellent service, and friendly staff improved the meal. This place is consistently great, and we always make a point to visit whenever we're in Austin. Amazing food and great service. This is our favorite seafood restaurant in Austin. Everything from the appetizer's to the main course is top notch. The Jumbo Shrimp Brochette is my go to meal and the wife loves the Stuffed Shrimp Montage. The shrimp are oven baked baked jumbo shrimp and are filled with lump crab cake and topped with parmesan cheese sauce and served with pappardelle pasta. We highly recommend this place. read more

This place brings out the Cajun I wish I had in me! Their oysters are so juicy, their bread is crunchy and their fried alligator is chomping good! As a Fort Worth resident, I've enjoyed Pappadeaux for years: in my hometown, as well as in Arlington, Bedford and Dallas. But yesterday's dining experience at this Austin location set a new standard. My husband and I have been coming here for years and I always get the same thing - the Ponchatrain blackened. I never even look at the menu. It is ALWAYS perfect. We usually sit at the bar and my only complaint is that the bartenders are a little stand-offish and not great at describing their specialty drinks. Other than that, I love the place! read more
